Yes, in all our houses. Money was short until we retired because we owned our own business and that came first,

Our first home was bought from DH's Mother. It was his family home which was a converted cottage, but then fuel oil was .27 and was not a reason to insulate to save fuel. But when we bought it I started insulating all the porches in the cottage to achieve an eleven room home. There was constant upgrading this cottage and it was a wonderful place to live. We sold it after the kids grew up. and moved to a smaller home on the property which we remodeled to our needs. (We added a home greenhouse attached). I think I became an expert in taping (sheet-rock) through our remodeling but do not do it for others :)

Then we moved to Culebra Island, PR and built from scratch, a 4 bedroom home. We paid for the structure, then was up to us to finish as a retirement project. Once done we bought an outdated guesthouse and remodeled it then sold it 12 years later. It is still in business with even more remodeling by the new owners.

Then we bought a complete new home in AZ and no remodeling is needed...thank goodness...

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

5'1.5" - I shrunk from 5'4"
Summer: Minesota
Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

Over the many years, my husband and I have painted, papered, refinished lots of furniture, and with the help of our son and daughter-in-law, ripped up carpets and laid tile and wooden floors.

I have rewired lamps, replaced plumbing fixtures, my husband and son have removed toilets, repaired pipes, and patched ceilings.

Once I helped a friend replace his roof.

I used to live in an older house and with the help of my father did wiring and a lot of carpentry on my own. I also managed to do some repairs to my washer and maintenance on my car. Thankfully I have a husband who takes care of all that stuff now.

yes, our whole lives have been a diy project.
My husband knows how to do everything needed for a house. That's how we were able to get this almost 3,000 sq ft fixer upper for $15,780.

And we all lived happily ever after...

My family was the only non Amish in an Amish valley, we lived in an Amish house on a farm with no electric or running water. There isn't much we didn't do ourselves. Now I just do. I don't think of getting someone to help unless it is something like plumbing or electric. After all we just did.

Have you ever worked on a DIY project? If so what did you do?
