Our Kiva Club has events to keep the place lively and Cinco de Mayo i one of them. Some come in costume. some just a momenato of Mexico. We have a band, drinks and tacos. It is gay and lively and a fun night.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I grew up very near the Mexican border and had many friends who lived in Mexico and would drive into America to work and even they thought it was their Independence day, but that's in Sept, I believe.

Mexico reneged on paying a loan back and the country came to collect, but lost. Sad.

It was a battle with the Spanish, but not for independence. There were with a couple hundred Mexican soldiers on a cliff and the Spanish landed with several thousand. The Mexicans won.

I don't know the history. I thought I heard once that it was a celebration of when Mexico got their independence. Reading that it is only celebrated in the U.S. surprised me.

Nope never heard of it. But funny: I was out to eat with two of my sisters on Saturday..went to a Mexican Restaurant....and I saw a sign that said Cinco de Mayo and thought it was probably the name of the restaurant. lol

I don't know anyone who celebrates it.

And we all lived happily ever after...

We can change hearts, by bringing up the next generation to embrace Life at an early age.

Yes I know the history, it happened in Mexico, but isn't celebrated there. Only in the US were it just an excuse to have a party.
