those are funny Susan. Thank you for sharing. I am going to try it with my son and then at the next family gathering. What a blast that will be!

Your wish is my command:

Original Story that I made up:

"On the 2nd day of the week a black elephant wearing a feathered helmet trumpeted through town. On his back rode the former king of South Africa and the Pharaoh of Upper Egypt, both dressed in royal colors."

So I passed out index cards to each member and instructed everyone to try to repeat the story in writing.
This was mine.(remember I'm the one who wrote it.)

Susan: "On the 2nd day of the week a black elephant wearing a feathered helmet trumpeted down the street. On his back were the former king of South Africa and the Pharaoh of Egypt, both wearing royal colors."

Husband: "On a sunny day a pink Elephant with a hat and a feather came down a street with a king from Persia with a sword and helmet. " age 44.

Son L. at age 19: "On the day of the week...elephant...royal colors. "

Daughter A. __________ couldn't find this one.

Son M. at age 16: "On the second day of the week an animal and two people rode on a feathered elephant wearing colorful clothing."

Son J. ____________couldn't find this one.

Son P. (almost 13) "On the second day of the week stood a elephant with a black helmet ran across Africa kingdom. "

Daughter K. at age 11: "A black elephant wearing a black helmet with a trumpet."

Son J. at (almost 10) : " An elephant on back King of Africa fancy clothes."

Daughter M. _________ couldn't find it

Daughter K age 6 1/2: Black elephant tumbling down with helmet on. It had colors."

lol,
As you can see, it's a great lesson for Mama and kids (and husbands). This is a great eye-opener to discover how much you really pay attention when someone speaks.

If I find the other three I'll come back and edit.

That's a smart idea Jackie. I'll have to try that. The last audio I started was while I was painting my bedroom.

I always have a book open that I'm reading and I have audio-books on my phone to listen to when I walk. It keeps me walking more than I planned on and also is enjoyable.

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I've done this with my son, because he was always moving when I read and never seemed to be paying attention, but he could repeat back verbatum. That's when I realized he was both an auditory and kinesthetic learner. LOL

I would have loved to see your family responses to your story. lol

One of my strong points is reading aloud; this has benefited our home-schooling experience because the children have learned to pay attention.

However, one time we did an experiment. I made up a very short story...just a few sentences. Then I gave each of them an index card and they had to repeat back the story to the best of their memory. Ten different responses.
It. was. HILARIOUS.
Especially my husband's response.

It's fun to do. Try it sometime.

It's a great way to find out how we each absorb things and maybe learn to be a little more understanding when our comments get mixed up.

And we all lived happily ever after...

I'm not very good at listening - get distracted.
I recently listened to Police at the Station and They Don't Look Friendly by Adrian McKinty. It's located in northern Ireland.
The narrator, George Doyle, had such a lovely Irish accent, it really made the book seem more real.

Read.
My hearing is poor, so unless I see the words, too, listening is pretty useless.

I read most of the time and listen to audible when I can't read. Driving, cooking, doing dishes

Would you rather read a book or listen to the audio?
