That's one good thing about apartment living. My landlord is very good at things like that; however, he also uses professionals. He just had new windows put in during the early fall & he had that done. All I have to do is say something is not working right & he's right on it.

I have a car mechanic that I trust 100%. I've gone to him for about 5 years now & hated the thought of having to deal with mechanics before I found him. He came highly recommended by a friend.

Our house is 9 years old and in an active over 55 community. Lots of items have had to be repaired - it seems after 8 years they start having problems - but, we have the list of the original installers who mostly give a good rate to repair.

Last year we bought a warranty for our Air and Heating systems. Haven't had a problem yet but they are due to fail (and probably would have if we didn't have the warranty :) but, we are ready.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

My husband does it. He will research online and YouTube before he starts working on the repair. He does a great job.

Speaking of which, guess what my husband discovered. Maybe this will help all of YOU.
When our washing machine broke down, Hubby was examining it, figuring out what the problem could be. He removed the outer casing of the machine and guess what he found! Attached to the washtub, was a BOOK which DETAILED how to reset the machine.
There is a whole step by step process that you can go through for the machine's computer to diagnose itself and tells you to push certain buttons in a certain order....and WA LAA!

But no one TELLS you this, and it is HIDDEN between the layers of the machine.

HUH!!! Who woulda thunk?

Also, you would probably get lucky asking on youtube. Often times they show you exactly what to do. Sure beats paying someone to come out!

And we all lived happily ever after...

Just found a replacement handy man after doing with out one for 2 years. My mechanic is the dealer where we bought our car. not cheap but honest and fair! To me that's what counts.

Yes and no. The general handyman stuff like painting and building porches and fences, I've been lucky. Appliance repair, not so much. Plumbing, heating, and related are as good as I'll get I suppose. It gets more expensive every year as my abilities deteriorate. Our house is old and needs to be rewired and plumbed as well as a new or refurbished heating system and I can no longer crawl in crawl spaces or climb on a third story roof. It gets more challenging as the years fly by. Downsizing will eventually have to be the answer.

The four-year-old fridge is the best example. The small appliance repair guy has been here twice to fix the defrost cycle not working and the ice maker freezing up. Both are still broken and the last time he also broke the water line to the icemaker and I had to call the plumber to fix that. I guess I've spent over $300 to land back where I started. I'm about to the point where I'll sell it and replace it just to get one I can buy the longest extended warranty available. Whatever happened to stuff that lasted twenty years?

I hear lots of complaints about people trying to find some reliable & honest repairmen. Have you found a reliable repairman for your home? Have you found a reliable & honest mechanic for your car?
