I have used the Ellis Island site before, but didn't find anyone that would have been related as far as I could tell. I have also used the Mayflower information since my grandmother indicated someone came over that way. I thought all the people my grandmother talked about were on her husband's side of the family, though, so I might have looked at it wrong. More likely it was her mother's family that came then. Her family was early in the settling of this country.

A potential gem:
I recently found a tiny address book of my mom's side of the family. It has addresses of her siblings when they lived out of state and such, places I had never even heard that they lived.
Wouldn't that be a WONDERFUL find for someone who was searching their genealogy?
For me, this side of the family is up to date, but oh how awesome for someone else searching.

I have the information on it but haven't had the time to confirm the information I have. I intend to do that after ... :) after is the key word here :)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

My ancestors were here before Ellis Island came into use. My husbands family would have possible come through there but I have been unable to find anything on them.

I used it a little bit. Some family members came in through Ellis Island.

Funny, my great step-grandpa came in with a very Polish y name and they changed his name to SMITH. lol

You know very well, I would have added the 'ski' back on! SMITHSKI!

And we all lived happily ever after...

it's all a scam to get us to buy more tech garbage. I prefer the old and if I have to go back to pen and paper, (which I still do for a lot of things), so be it.

I'm very close to going off-computer. It's just a matter of time.

Windows isn't alone. I do have a windows computer for my business, but all my genealogy is on a MAC. I don't think they update as often, but when they do they can drive you nuts trying to find things.
One time were I was working came up and said Quickbooks would recognize my version any more and I had to get the new and improved version. We did. The new and improved version said my computer was to old and I need a new computer. We got a new computer. Everything was great till I went to print paychecks, the printer didn't speak the same language as the new computer.

As for Ellis Island I have found very little I could use. Most of my ancestors were either in Jamestown or came over on the Mayflower. The one I found that came though Eliis Island, The person that recorded everyone gave everyone on the boat the same last name.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear

Sandy, I am so glad I'm not the only one frustrated with microsoft. I'm looking for a replacement. I'm done with them.

I have not used Ellis Island website. Both sides of my family were already here.

I have used Ellis Island in the past for documents; however, I now know that the person whose records I got isn't a biological grandparent after all.

My folder disappeared & it took several hours to find it. I hate the fact that Microsoft moves things trying to make you use their newer products. If it's not broken, don't fix it. OK, end of rant.

Today is National Ellis Island Family History Day. Do you use the Ellis Island website in your genealogy research? If so, have you found anything useful there?
