I love animals and have had a kitty in my life for a long time. I travel a lot so a dog requires too much attention to leave for long. Jasmine keeps us entertained and can live without human attention for weeks. I have a friend who also travels a lot and she stops by daily to check on her when I am gone. I check on ere cats when she is gone.

ugh.

I will not get another dog until I need one for protection around the house after the kids are gone.

The responsibilities of dog ownership have grown exponentially and I am not interested in the sacrifices it takes.
I'm a PEOPLE lover over a animal lover.

but I do like animals.

Growing up we had dogs,Moses (who always ran away and wandered the wilderness), Patches, and Woodruff (named after the street she lived on, lol. More specifically, Woodruff Woodrow Wilson).
My sister had a bird that they called Captain. It would escape it's cage and mom enjoyed creating the joke, "Our bird was so smart it could PECK A LOCK."
We had a hamster that we think ran into our registers. We never found him again, though we sometimes thought we heard his little claws tapping through the vents. lol

As an adult, and when we bought our first home we thought having a dog would be just wonderful. My hubby wanted two. We named them Sadie and Casey. One was an escape artist and the other was the follower. This is where we began to be disinclined to be dog owners.
But then we found a stray that looked like Lady from Lady and the Tramp, but he was black, and he was a boy. I called him Gent.
Eventually, he found his original home.

Our last dog competed against Hubby to be Alpha. He would pee in Hubby's work boots to try to declare his kingship over the family. He broke a pulley on the dog runner- it was made to hold 420 lbs. That dog was only about 40 lbs. When on the dog runner, he never stopped moving. and he never stopped barking.
And he RAN RAN RAN. Highest energy dog we'd ever seen in our life.

And THAT ended our doggy love. We've been delightfully doggy free for about 2 years.

But, since I'm losing my hearing, I may want to have a smaller house dog later on. We'll see.

I've had dogs since I was 10 and currently have an Australian Cattle Dog bitch. I also have a tuxedo shorthair cat that I got about a month before I got Cassie. Orzo was adopted from the Dumb Friend's League and I expected him to be a bit stand offish for a couple weeks, but it took him 10 minutes to land on my lap. He is really loving.

I also have a quarter horse mare who I got when she was a yearling and she is turning 33 tomorrow.

Adopted Bella. She's an older Boxer. The people kept thanking me, because she's an older dog. She was over bred for her pups. I was told her owner was selling her pups for drugs and then he was put in jail and she was put in the animal shelter. It took awhile for her to get used to the fact she was with us forever. It broke my heart every time she went to the car when some one was visiting, because she thought she was leaving with them. Then when we moved to our farm she had separation anxiety and followed me everywhere; even to the bathroom. If I knew we'd be gone all day I brought her with us if the weather allowed.
We're currently fostering my older son's German Shepherd; pure black and LARGE. larger than most G.S.'s. He's become a better dog since being with us almost 15 months.
I adopted a cat for my son; Ranger, but she's a girl and bosses my boy cats.
I adopted two male cats from a fellow homeschool mom and named them Calvin and Hobbes. (it's hard to tell them apart). I got them for mousing on the farm, but they stay in the sunroom when it's too wet and/or cold. (Have I mentioned I'm allergic to cats and the Shepherds under fur?) emoticon

We have 3 pets. All are rescue animals. Lexie our golden retriever mix will be 12 next month. We also have 2 cats. Tazz was a feral kitten that we trapped. We originally were just going to foster him till the rescue group found him a home. It was 6 weeks before they called and by then we were attached to him. We then adopted Jinx to keep Tazz company.

I've always had dogs in my life and have never made a choice of them. However, always loved what ever was brought home. Our last dog, a lab., Cocoa (and I think the only one we bought) died about 6 years ago and because we were snowbirds we chose not to get another - at least until we settle down.

I had two cats that the kids brought home while they were growing up. When they left our home the cats became mine :) My DH was a dog lover not cat lover so when they passed they were not replaced.

I will be happy to adopt a dog if (the right) one is in need, but not sure I want to go shopping for one now at age 81.

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

Stormy is a 5 year old Russian Blue with white marking on her chest & stomach. She came to live with me last year & while there was some adjusting at first, we've become very close.

She's even learned to tolerate me singing to her instead of running off to hide.

Today is National Pet Day.
April 11 is National Pet Day. While loving our pets is something we do every day, National Pet Day encourages us to pay special attention to pets who may not get that extra attention. Helping out orphaned pet companions will improve their health and improve their opportunities for adoption.

Sometimes their human companions arenít well. Making sure their forever furry friends are receiving the best of care will help relieve stress and worry.

HOW TO OBSERVE
Take supplies to those pets in shelters. Help a friend with pets who is recovering from an illness. Adopt a pet.Use #NationalPetDay on social media.

If you have a pet or pets, tell us about them.
