I do both. I didn't find didly online for my civil war boys, but did find a census on my 2nd grt. grandfather and did a google map search of the area and land in that area have his surname and the surname of another family member.

Individual, but excited when it leads to other members.

And we all lived happily ever after...

depends on what and who I'm looking for. Most of my family is British, both sides. If I'm in England, I look for everyone and anyone the info might apply to. If I'm in another country, I'll pretty much stay with one line

I research one individual and family but never close my options on the family...

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

5'1.5" - I shrunk from 5'4"
Summer: Minesota
Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I use both methods. For instance, yesterday I was working with two books - Wills & Administrations of Isle of Wight County, Virginia 1647-1800, Books 103 and Marriages of Isle of Wight County, Virginia 1628-1800. I decided to work on the Eley line which can get confusing since my first three direct line immigrants in this family were named Robert. In addition, all of the sons had sons named Robert. I used both books to cross reference the different names in order to use the correct sources. That included finding marriages & wills for the bride's fathers in addition to searching all the records for Robert Eley in Isle of Wight County. I only got halfway through the Robert's & will try to do the rest of them later today. Then I will start on the other Eley sources listed in the index. Of course, I attach the files & write the citations for the other people in addition to the Robert Eleys as I go along.

When you’re doing research, do you take one individual or family unit & search for them in all available sources? Or do you take one source & use it to look for various individuals or families in your tree?
