I forgot about things like that. I was at the nightclub I used to go to to dance and a guy I was dancing with asked me to marry him. I had never met the guy before, was only dancing with him. He was going through while driving a truck. That was the second time I had been asked to marry a guy. The first time was many years before and probably the only real proposal I had, but Timmy and I were too young for marriage. We were 5.

I remember one (regrettable) moment when a boy I didn't know, but who was in one of my junior high classes, started walking home from school with me, uninvited. I avoided him the second day by going around his house instead of past it. But 'on the third day he came again' and walked alongside me. Suddenly, he asked, "Will you go steady with me?"

Shocked, without thinking how rude it was, I exclaimed adamantly, "HECK NO!"
emoticon

I feel so BADLY! Maybe he had liked me from afar, and felt that I knew him. But really, I had only seen him in passing...never had had a conversation with him until those couple of days in which I was puzzled about his attention to me.

MAN! I still feel so guilty about my rude response.

Contrast that to the time, two or three years later, when the boy I DID like, asked me, over the phone, to go steady with HIM.

" Yeah BUDDY!" I exclaimed happily.

****
Later when I began dating my husband and we had officially been going out for a few weeks, we were sitting on my front porch. I blushed as I remembered my older sister teasingly ask me, "So.....did he ask you to go STEADY YET?"

Future Hubby asked what my smile and blush were about. Eventually, after much hemming and hawing, I told him,
"My sister wanted to know if you had asked me to 'go steady' yet."

He smiled and said, "Well? Will you?"

FANCYQTR, I wonder if the girl was "pinned" and it came out as pained? Maybe it was both? emoticon

Back in my day it was going "steady."

That's good, RMUL.

When we went to Kentucky Lake my uncle was joking around with the waitress they always got. He asked her for a date and she told him she couldn't because she was pained. That one took him a while to figure out. She was going steady, so was "pained."

Love it.

My mom loved the joke about the The Three Kings of the nativity. Instead of crowns, the kings wore fireman hats.
When asked why the person answers,
"Because they came from a FAR!"

emoticon , Years ago I went to visit my aunt who never left her small southern town. She had invited me to have dinner with her family and she said she was going to make a par pie. I could not figure out what kind of pie is that? She said she had a par tree and was going to make a pie with some of them par's from the tree. It finally dawned on me that she was going to make a pear pie. emoticon So cute!

Well, I can tell somebody I'm from the south and have them believe me. They will ask where and then I tell them South Denver. I used to have a fun time with that.

American English...took one year of Spanish (besame, yo hablo espanol!)

And I know some American Sign Language.

You know...I have a difficult time understanding conversation and always have to ask, "What?" or "Pardon Me"...so you'd think sign language would help me.

But NOOOOooooOOOOOOooooo....I always have to say, "What?" or "Go slow!", or "Sign that again!"

lol, OY!

F8CONE8, go to Kentucky Lake for a few weeks and you will be able to speak with a southern accent. Took me about a week and I couldn't keep that accent out of my speech.

Just American English.

A bit of Spanish. American English from the west coast so no southern accent which to me is a different dialect.

American English, fluent in Spanish - studied in Costa Rica, and can read French - perhaps if I was in a French area for several days, I would get around to understanding when listening to it again.

Not anything but American English. I did take Spanish, French and German, but I can remember very little of them. Can mostly count to 10 in each and farther in German, but not much else.
