yeah.

I'm only 49, 11 mths and 11 days, but my hearing has been getting worse as time goes on.
I hate to answer the phone, make appointments or even go to the doctor or store by myself, for fear of not catching the conversation correctly.

First noticed ringing in the ears 22 years ago while pregnant with my 3rd child. They said there was nothing to do for me.

Then about 8 or 9 years ago I had got it checked out and they determined that my hearing loss is categorized 'serious and profound'.

Volume is not problem, just many words are hard to discern. I don't like when people change the topic on me, because then I can't GUESS what they are saying.

I much prefer being on the internet using keyboards, or using my texts on my phone.

I DO know some sign language but it's only going to help if your loved ones also know it. My family knows some good basics...and we can all use the alphabet, so that's our back up when I can't figure out a word.

Before I was diagnosed with hypo-thyroidism back when I was 13, my mom had noted that one of the symptoms was 'trouble hearing'.

Looking back I also realize that I could not figure out most of the words to songs...had to look they lyrics up. But it never dawned on me that it was EASY for OTHER people.

And we all lived happily ever after...

My Medicare HMO added them as a benefit this year and as soon as I get all this other health maintenance taken care of, I'm headed that way. I'd like to have the help for conversation. Some folks I can only catch about half what they say. That's mostly a blessing, but not always.

Ahhhh, NOW I understand....

I have hearing aids and do not use them. They didn't seem to help, at the same time as physically hurting my ears. They were comfortable ....as long as I didn't chew or talk. lol

No, I don't mean the voluntary kind. I mean the ones where they start rappin' away in some other language or they're whispering and it's suddenly captioned when nothing else was and I either miss it altogether or have to rewind. PITA. Praise be that so far headphones fix my partial hearing loss well enough to hear the TV and computer. Hearing aids are on the not too distant horizon for me.

lol, I can't live without captions.

Do you know that you can even get gadgets at the movie theaters for the deaf and hearing impaired? Pretty cool!

I am a fan of Nicholas Sparks and I enjoy the books so much more than the movies.

There have been so many over the years and generally, I'm torn. Usually, the book has more detail and sometimes the characters I conjure I like better than the actors, but usually, I call it a tie. The exception is often horror and sci-fi of recent vintage. They do a fantastic job with special effects these days and it's hard for me to imagine some of the things that they're able to bring to life. What can I say..... I love movies and I love books. (But not both. I hate captioning!) Oh, and don't forget the stage. Phantom was way better on stage than either the book or the movie(s).

Pride and Prejudice is an awesome book. Even though it was written in the very early 1800's it STILL pertains to today.
The A & E version of it, is absolutely EXCELLENT and has hardly changed from the book at all. Plus, it's a mini-series, so had plenty of time to fit everything in.

The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings book: I hate reading them aloud. Just finished Fellowship of the Rings. THEN I watched the movie again and FINALLY I understood the it. I was captivated...(wasn't, before I read the book). That movie did a great job, I thought.

My biggest disappointment was Janette Oke's Love Comes Softly.
That was my FAVORITE BOOK EVER for about 25 years. My cousin and I were totally sure it could be a hit movie.
Then Michael Landon Jr. ATTEMPTED it. Sighhh...

Far too many changes.

BUT...if I had just watched the MOVIE, it very well might make my top 5 favorites. Good movie, just slaughtered the book with the details. Captured the jist of it, though.

We also just finished reading The Outsiders. Afterwards, we watched the movie and they did an outstanding job on that.

And we all lived happily ever after...

I don't think I have ever read a book and then seen the movie. It has always been one or the other.

It's been so long since I've seen a movie I don't remember if it was alsof a book. I can't sit that long any more.

I'll just keep reading books, but I'm getting fussy on them too. If the first chapter doesn't grab me I take it back to the library - they have enough books to keep me happy for a long time.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

my favorite books have not been made into movies. I have seen movies made from books and they fall short.
The only (kids) movie my family has seen that was better than the book was How to Train Your Dragon.
Next year my son will be studying Shakespeare and we will include the plays/movies to accompany and compare to the play/book.

I can't think of a favorite but have watched several movies after reading the book. As a general rule I don't feel the movies are as good as the books.

What is your favorite book that was made into a movie? Did you see the movie? Which did you like best, the book or the movie?
