I consider that I'm always kind and do the little courteous things I see to do but I mostly do not go out of my way in doing for others.

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

5'1.5" - I shrunk from 5'4"
Summer: Minesota
Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

Years ago, I liked being part of the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. I'm not sure if it is still active.

I enjoy helping out people at the department store I work at. Like loading and unloading their carts, A common courtesy that makes us feel good.

Life can be hard, be kind. Smile.

I agree with MaryAlice. I was thinking what some people call Random Acts of Kindness I think of as common courtesy/proper manners.
But to go above and byond would be paying for food for a family you know is having trouble making ends meet or paying their electric bill, etc.

Common courtesy is common in MY family. It's amazing how happy these things make people nowadays. It is sad that you have to be surprised when it happens!

And we all lived happily ever after...

The things that so many of us were taught to do (holding doors, for example) are no longer done in many places. And sometimes we don't realize how much they can mean to someone else. Unfortunately, too often, common courtesy is no longer common.

I never even thought of those things as the random acts of kindness. Just as things people always do. I guess there are many people who don't do them, though.

Carol, I understand the limited budget. I have done a bunch of crochet and donated years ago, but couldn't really afford more yarn to keep going. I have looked in some of the stashes I have and think I can do some other things with it, so I am trying to start up again. My little things I have done were mainly on sale days, like the sandwiches. They were BOGO. The small flower arrangement I just got a strong feeling I needed to get that for my neighbor (Lord's urging). Turns out it was the anniversary of her husband's death and she was feeling down. That neighbor and I hadn't gotten along in years until that day, so it benefited both of us.

I never thought of it as random acts of kindness. Mom called them proper manners. I see someone with packages in their hands, I open the door for them. I see someone not as steady on their feet on the buss, I get up. A child looses a toy, if I can get it for them I do.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear

I try to do random acts whenever I can, at least once a day, maybe more. They aren't the official ones or things that cost money, but little things like holding a door open for people behind me or who have their hands full of things. Or I may take a cart back to a holder at the grocery store or reach an item on a high shelf for someone who is more "height challenged" than I am. We live in a small town and have a minimal retirement budget, so sometimes opportunities are limited. I was never a Girl Scout but I headed my daughter's Brownie troop for 3 years and adopted the "Good Deed for the Day" attitude. It's amazing the smiles you can bring to others - and how those things bring smiles to me too.

Don't really make a habit of it, but do some things very randomly. Like picked up a flower arrangement for a neighbor, got sandwiches and chips for some homeless on "sandwich day" and made some once, tried to help pay for some police' lunch one day (had a gift card that I gave them and they passed it forward. I now have that gift card back -- guess who they ended up passing it forward to through the waiter).

February 11-17 is National Random Acts of Kindness Week! Do you make a habit of doing random acts of kindness? If so, could you give us an example or two?
