We have both.
They are all checked twice a year when the time changes.

And.... Here's a story.
My hubby heard one going off and went searching allllll over the house to find the culprit. None of the main ones were going off. Perplexed, he kept following the sound, clear down to the basement, way back in a corner of boxes, inside a box. lol. It was an extra one, and apparently the alarm went off to tell us it was going bad.

And we all lived happily ever after...

I have a smoke detector and it lets me know when the battery starts getting low so I can change it. I have a CO detector downstairs, but I don't know if it works. I just noticed it one day and it has never been taken out of the box. I didn't know I had it.

Yes and yes, even though our house is electric, we have a propane fire place, so we have the carbon monoxide detector in the basement. (the previous owners put a dual detector upstairs though).

We check about every three months, though I have a reminder on my cell to check monthly, this does't always happen. Our last check was in December and we only needed to change one battery shortly after that check.

Yes to smoke detectors. They get tested each time change and when I fry food. We are all electric so no carbon monoxide testers.

Yes and yes. Everything got checked twice just last week. We had a chirping we couldn't track down, so after testing the batteries in everything (including the CO and natural gas detector), we started disabling them one at a time and finally figured out the offender. Turns out it wasn't the battery, but rather the detector itself. Must have been fifteen years old or more, so now we have everything less than two years old. DW changes batteries on our anniversary every year. We live next door to a firehouse so you would think we'd be more on top of aging equipment?

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

Yes, we have both. In fact, in Oregon an inspector must provide photo documentation of these before a house can be sold, so when we bought our house 3.5 years ago they were already in. Only one smoke detector has a battery. The other monitors are wired into the house.

Yes we have smoke detectors. Our house is all electric so no carbon monoxide detectors. Try to remember to change the batteries when time changes in the fall.
