When we were young, for several years in a row, a bunch of cousins and aunts and uncles would go sledding down a nearby park hill (yes, with a creek at the bottom, lol). It was SOOO much fun. I miss those days. It seems like this generation doesn't do anything fun like that anymore-everyone goes their separate ways. I've been getting sad thinking about it.

But after the sledding, we would drive back to my mom and dad's house (we were the closest house) and we would get all warmed up with hot cocoa made on the stove.

Such fun times!

And we all lived happily ever after...

I grew up in snowy MN but left there about 20 years ago to only see snow one time.

My Mother died on Christmas Eve Day, I flew back to MN on Christmas Day to attend her funeral. There were only 5 passengers in a huge plane so we were all reseated in first class and had 3 attendants to attend to our wants :) We had the plane to ourselves and it was rather fun or at least unique.

I spent 5 days in MN in snowy, cold, blizzardy conditions. Although the home I stayed in was warm I never got rid of the chill of the season.

I participated in snow activities for 60 years and enjoyed it but in my older age am not interesed - consider it a huge bother.

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

Summer: Minesota
Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I just reread some of these and noticed the sledding. We used to go up near Indian Hills and either ride the toboggan or the saucer sled. With the toboggan Dad, a friend and I would start at the top of the hill and turn and go down the creek at the bottom of the hill. I don't know how far we ended up going. The saucer sled was fun and wild. I would start at the side of the hill so I wouldn't go anywhere near the jump and no matter what I did that sled would turn around backwards and go over the jump every time. I wish I could do those things again. I still have the toboggan. We never seem to get enough snow to sled on that hill anymore, even if it is in the mountains.

Speaking about worried parents.

When my uncle died out of state, several of us family members traveled in for the funeral. The home folks here (including some aunts and uncles and cousins) took the 12 hour drive to get there. One of my cousins from another state had his pilot's license so he flew a small plane in.

After the funeral events were over, he invited one of my home-town uncles and one of my sisters and me to fly back with him and he'd drop us off at our local airport and someone could pick us up from there.

Well, literally the plane couldn't hold more than the four of us. I don't know about my uncle, but my sister and I had never flown before. Creepy, when there's nothing under your feet as you fly. lol (and my older sister got creeped about EVERYTHING.) (I was 18, my sister was 21)

Well, we ended up in a major thunderstorm. MAJOR. And though we kept it light-hearted, the burden of responsibility for my pilot cousin just. got. heavier.
emoticon emoticon emoticon

We ended up having to land at an airport further away from our home than planned. We landed safely, and BOY was my uncle and cousin EVER SO grateful.

So right away, they called back to our starting state to let them know we managed to land safely. But the phones were busy. We tried again. Phones busy. busy. busy.
Finally, we went to the pilot's lounge and rested and watched a movie together (pretty cool.)

Eventually we tried calling again and they FINALLY ANSWERED.
Apparently they were TICKED OFF at us for not calling them. TICKED!!!. Which shows how worried they were. We tried to explain that the lines had been busy each time we called, but I'm not so sure that helped.

So anyway, that was an adventure!
Nothing quite like being in a plane the size of 1 1/2 living rooms in a severe thunderstorm!

When we were in college in Missouri, I had taken my then boyfriend, now husband of 47 years, to meet my parents in Michigan. On the way home, a huge snowstorm buried the Chicago area. We stopped near the Lake, and walked around in the snow, unaware that my parents and my grandmother in MO were worried.

There were no cell phones then.

We were much, MUCH longer than expected on the road. We had a great time.

A few years ago my 4 daughters and I got all excited about the snow and began building a huge snowman on the side of our house. We made each ball so big that we couldn't lift the head to the top. Then we saw some random young man walking down the road across the street from our house. We joked, "Hey...we oughta get THAT guy to help us." And we laughed and giggled.

NEXT THING WE KNOW, the guy turns, crosses the street and came right up to us asking if we wanted help.
AWWWWW MANNNNNNNN! We were so embarrassed that he had heard us. Apparently voices carry in the snow. lol

So with red faces, and - believe me, it wasn't from the cold- we thanked him as he EASILY lifted the head into place.

laugh out loud.

We about died.

In theory, I love love love playing in the snow. In reality...not as much as I wish.

HOWEVER...on a date with my first boyfriend, the weather had turned snowy while we were in the movie theater. When we came out, we began a snowball fight.

My boyfriend kept the car between us and would duck down when I tried to hit him. I had terrible aim. I threw the snowball and it did NOT go where I had planned it to go. However....just as the snowball was careening off to the side, my boyfriend's head POPPED UP in that exact spot and it landed square in his face!!!!

HILARIOUS.

We only get snow about once every 10 years, Then I like to walk, see the snow and watch the children play.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear

My favorite snow activity is sitting inside a warm house with a good book. I hated playing in the snow and getting wet and cold.
