Thanks for the info. Elverne's car was totally restored in 2013, which is where I saw the picture. It's blue with the number 555 on it. I am enjoying watching the videos on there.

That's what my buddy drives. His car is the one on fire in the foreground in this clip. I think he has pretty much owned the wheelstand champ until this one where the guy in the Ford wins:

This is held at Beaver Springs every year and I'm determined to make it this year while everybody is still kickin. All of my crowd are in their late sixties and early seventies. My two best boyhood buddies both still participate and several friends from young adulthood as well. The senior members of our club have mostly passed and it's now us juniors who are senior. The Jalopy Drags have a cutoff date for model year... I think the car (at least the car body) has to be pre-1970, but not exactly sure of the year. I do know there is a cutoff, so if you want to see older vehicles drag racing on a short track just search for "Jalopy Drags" as there are tons of videos.

Dave and Samantha, do the drag races you go to all have the fancy race cars or do they have older cars in them? I never got to see him race, but my cousin raced in the 60s. I have seen pictures of the car he raced. It was a 41 Willys. Course, that might be before your time and he was from Wisconsin. I don't know how far he traveled.

My favorite sport were the ones my kids, nieces and nephews were playing in! But I am not an avid sports watcher. I root quietly for the Wisconsin teams but I enjoy seeing a person excel or make awesome plays from any team.

I like to watch sports but I wouldn't say I'm a sports fanatic.
I don't know that one sport is really my favorite but I tend to watch basketball and football.

1FARMER, You don't say what age group you fall into or what area you come from on your Spark Page, but I'm from South Central Pennsylvania and started going to the drags in about 1962. We had a pretty active car/hot rod club and you could become a junior member at age fourteen or so if I recall correctly. The younger members were pretty much gofers, but we learned a lot by cleaning parts and doing grunt work while watching the older guys work on their cars. We went to one track or another about every week when we could scrounge up the money for a share of pit passes. I can't afford it anymore, but I've got buddies that still go to the jalopy meets. One is still quite active and still drives now and then. Great fun and great memories.

My family has been involved in Drag racing for many years. I don't go to the drag strip (in season) every weekend like I use too. But we plan our family gatherings around the racing schedule. When we're not at the drag strip the conversations are all about racing and cars.

Baseball, baseball, baseball! Then drag racing, bicycle racing, Spartan competitions, bowling, some Olympic type sports, surfing, MMA, and pro boxing.

This is the year football died and now joins my graveyard of forgotten sports right next to basketball, Nascar, and soccer.

We would like to make it to Florida for Spring Training soon and have been to DC, Baltimore, New York City, Philly, and Pittsburgh. We also have a nearby minor league team that we go to see every now and then.

I don't know how you fans can even keep your eye on everything! I can rarely figure out where the balls are and by the time I DO, someone else has it. Just not fun to me. I have five sons and none of them are interested. They do like martial arts, and they WILL play backyard football with their buddies every once in a while.

And we all lived happily ever after...

I like most sports that don't involve hitting little white balls. Unless of course my grands are playing. I use to be a football nut but then the day after my 50th birthday I didn't want any thing to do with the game, Except to give all the LSU fans around here a hard time. Chomp Champ.

Nice picture Sandy. We used to go there a lot when visiting. My aunt's boss had seats along the 1st base line just a few rows up. After she retired we were up a bit higher, but I think behind home plate. I have gone to the Rockies game once and sat pretty high near right field. They lost. The program after the game was nice, though.

I like to watch them except basketball not as much. I'll watch it if there isn't anything else to watch. Can't watch anything but football on TV now since everything is on cable now. Well, all but east coast baseball when we are pretty far west. I can't afford to go to the games now.

SPARKINGRAMMY wasn't it nice of our Cardinals to let the Cubs get one for a change? Don't get used to it.

jackie are you referring to nfl? in total agreement. But when my family attends a minor baseball game we're not sitting and doing nothing. We're fellowshiping and watching a game too. Especially cool is when it's fourth of july and we watch the fireworks afterwards.
Everything seems to have become so politicized these days. emoticon

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

When we lived in Denver we followed professional football and baseball as well as the state college football teams. (My son got his bachelor's degree at one and his master's at the other, so we have loyalties.) Now that we live in Oregon it's college football, both Colorado and Oregon schools - and Va Tech since my husband is an alum. And we watch some Olympics. Mostly, college football gives me an excuse to do the various puzzles in the newspapers and just rest for a change.

NEVER. NEVER. NEVER.

If anything, it might be the Olympics. But IF the Olympics, it would be Gymnastics and Ice-skating...maybe the sledding competitions.
