Well, when I was younger and lived at home, we always had an entirely full house with aunts, uncles and cousins. We're talking at 40ish people.
Then the family grew enough where a lot of that extended family ate at home, but popped in for a fun visit in the evening.
Then as they began 'passing away' and our extended family grew smaller, it became just my mom and dad and their off spring, which now equals 50.

Since Mom and Dad became ill, my sister with her large family held a separate celebration, and MY house became the main house (for the past three years).

But without Sis #1's family, the number drops dramatically. Sis#2 passed away and her husband and daughter don't come around.

So with my 11, we really only have 6 other family members that regularly come. Usually, the adult nephew brings a couple friends.

This year, we had 15 + a surprise visit from my Sis #2's 'adopted' daughter. She doesn't like crowds and stayed for just the meal and then snuck out. lol.

Our traditions are Signing a Tablecloth with our names and anything we were interested in that year. (new baby, boyfriend, surgeries, favorite activity/movie. whatever the kids have on their minds). Our first table cloth which has been going for at least 30 years, is now FULLLLL. So I purchased a new one and we began all over again. Suitable timing, since this is our first year without my mom and dad.

Our other traditions are playing Scrabble, Blokus, Euchre, video games, etc.

We had a fantastic time last night.

And we all lived happily ever after...

I guess tradition for me lately is going to my friends' for dinner. At their dinners we draw turkeys (though I didn't today). Everybody brings a little something and their entire family that is in town is there. Well, at least if they don't have to work.

I really don't know what would be my favorite dish. I like having turkey and cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving time. I like the stuffing. I like having something with pumpkin, though I'm not too great on the regular pie.

Pumpkin pie. Have to eat the crustless kind with low cal whipped cream these days, but still good.

With my arthritis, we try to avoid stressful situations. We cooked some chicken breasts and stuffing in the crockpot. Some cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and key lime pie and we had more than enough for three people. (my husband, our daughter, and myself)

Had a wonderful afternoon nap.

Slowly and surely wins the race.

Our old family tradition with my dh and our youngest was to travel to different areas for Thanksgiving.

Until our children grew up and left home (and were on their own) we had a traditional Thanksgiving with our two Grandmas.

Then a few years of "who is around" ...then DH and I moved to a Caribbean Island with no family in tow. Our Thanksgiving was with others we met there and calls to all our kids who were starting their own new traditions.

We are now in Arizona, with one child in Washington and one in Puerto Rico (staying with us temporarily after Hurr. Maria ) and other three in Minnesota.. Phone calls are the order of the day plus now there are grandchildren and gg grandchildren.

So this Thanksgiving there we'll be 3 of us. We decided a turkey for 3 dark meat eaters was too much and presently have a lamb roast cooking in our oven for this Thanksgiving dinner.

Nothing is traditional or permanent but we are 'together in spirit on this day.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

When we moved to Oregon 3 years ago to be near my daughter we started our own traditions that were mainly the ones from her childhood. Traditional turkey and stuffing, she brings green bean casserole and candied sweet potatoes. Somebody (varies) brings jellied cranberry. We have dropped mashed potatoes and dinner rolls. Also have pumpkin pie. I think what we have added is serving Martinelli's sparkling beverage in various flavors. Hubby and I have some champagne flutes we got as a wedding gift 25 years ago and we bring them out for special occasions. And while it is always family, others are often invited too.

Since I can't have anything the has meat or other animal product in it and when the part of my family that lives near me gets together we respect 4 countries, Thanksgiving is what we make it. It will involve beans, refried beans, don't ask if they are black red or pinto I don't know who is bringing them, 3 kinds of fruit salad, and something with some kind of meat for the meat eaters. It is beans and salad for me.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear
