I gave up soft drinks completely. A nice by-product of that is just having water when we go out to eat, and having a lower cost meal. If I'm away from home and want a pick-me-up, I get unsweetened iced tea instead of a Coke, and don't miss it at all.

I've also made a lot of other small changes that I think are adding up. Like another poster, meal planning revolves mostly around the veggies now, and then I add in a protein, and lastly, a little bit of carbs. Speaking of carbs, I'm reducing the amount of processed and high glycemic index carbs and replacing them with brown rice, lentils, winter squash or sweet potatoes. Just wish my husband liked winter squash and sweet potatoes.

I've gotten away from the processed frozen meals for lunch. Now I cook quinoa/steel cut oats on Sunday night and portion it out for breakfasts at work with some almonds, fruit and soy milk. For lunch I have raw veggies with hummus most days, plus a boiled egg, or maybe a sweet potato with cottage cheese. I've started feeling MUCH better since cutting down on the processed stuff and don't end up hungry in the afternoons, even though it was lower calorie "healthy" type packaged stuff.

Now that the local Farmer's Market started back up for the summer, I take my girls ( 2 and 4) each week and let them pick out some produce. Tonight we came home with strawberries, blueberries, cherries, cucumbers and red cabbage. They love to pick and pay for their own food. And as a family we have lots of yummy choices in the house for the upcoming week!

I am giving myself 10-day challenges. First was no sweets, Done!. then I added no fried foods, Done. tomorrow is the 10th day of not cleaning my plate at any meal. I feel great when I accomplish these short goals and then build on them.

What a great idea about having the weights near you in the living room. Mine are upstairs in my closet under my standing jewelry box. They're real easy to get to there...not. I'm moving mine right now to the family room and they can co-habitate in the basket where the dog toys are. Thanks for the inspiration!

Many. Some?

I now think of the vegetables first, then have a meat that goes with the veggies I'm in the mood to eat. (Since my family is grown and gone, I have that flexibility)

When I go out to eat I rarely even consider dessert.... though I used to look forward to it.

Perimeter shopping is the usual Big Grocery Expedition. Often I just get things from the produce and dairy sections and am out the door. So shopping is even quicker.

I walk around the house during commercials.

The basket holding my weights is now right in the living room where they're easy to grab...and I DO use them.

Batch cooking!

Ok, this may sound weird but it's an interesting by-product:
While I'm eating less, spending less time shopping, another fact is that my kitchen trash is noticeably less in volume!!

I have really ramped up my fitness, running and cycling as well as working out at the gym. I have found that if I am training for a specific event(s) it brings what I do down to the here and now rather than just exercising for general health. If I have a time based goal then I get out there and make it happen regardless as to how I feel, blah day at work, weather, whats on TV etc... training and preparation come first when I know there isn't much room to put it off.

For me anyway, if I workout for general wellbeing, it is easy to put it off for a convenient time because there isn't any consequence, no impending deadline.

Meal planning at the beginning of my day has made a huge difference in how I eat and how much I eat. Logging into SP early in the day, before I eat all my meals helps me adjust as needed.

Having some 'go to' meals at our favorite restaurants. These are the ones that help me stay in my calorie range but still allow me to enjoy eating out.

Drinking at least 10 cups of water a day. I am never without by water bottle when I leave home. I have a designated water pitcher just for me in the fridge at home. The family knows not to use my pitcher.

Making daily exercise as routine as b rushing my teeth.

Two months ago I subscribed to a local co-op farm that delivers local organically grown fruits & Veggies. It's interesting to learn what is actually in season in your area & the taste is so much better. They also include recipes so if it's something you've never had before you know how to fix it.

Add more veggies to everything and trying to drink more water. Finally put some water with lemon in the fridge.

Loved the previous reply. I can not have those in the house because the same thing happens, they magically disappear and show up on my hips.

I am eating breakfast. Not a breakfast person at all and breakfast items are not appealing. I had a hard time finding something that would stay with me. Oatmeal left me ravenous by 9:30. I think I have finally found a breakfast routine that keeps me feeling full and it something I can stomach in the morning.

I am drinking 10-12 glasses of water a day and excerising daily. Five days a week I work out at least 110 min. On the weekends, it is usually 90 mins. of just walking. I weight and measure my food and try to track. I try to eat as healthy as my Crohn's disease will allow!!!

I've made a number of important health changes in the last year. Perhaps the most important was reducng my stress level by leaving my job. I've also improved the consistency of my exercise, improved the quality of my diet, increased my water intake, and become more consistent taking medicine and supplements. My sleep quanity an quallity has improve and my energy level has soared. My attitude and mood have improved.

I've reduced my sugar consumption. I didn't feel that I had a lot, but with sugar in my coffee 2-3 times a day, it all adds up. I now use a natural sugar substitute and I use it in cooking too. I made a Chinese dipping sauce for some home-made chicken nuggets the other day for my little boy and used the substitute instead of sugar. Tastes just the same! The only challenge is that this one is a bit expensive, but I don't find myself eating many sweet things anymore so I use it sparingly.
