This team means that I AM NOT ALONE. I have some place to come to every day where people understand how difficult it can be for some of us to loose weight.

This was the team for me. I feel like a snail when it came to my weight loss. I've lost 7 lbs since I became a Spark member 8 1/2 months ago. I am at my longest plateau with only 3 lbs to my goal and feel very frustrated. I come to the Slowest Loser Team to find others that are here or have been here and get ideas on how to get out and lose more. I will continue and not give up because I see that there are others that are in my slow lane with me :0) I will continue to press on until I get to that goal line.

This team is really affirming. It's taken me 13 years (yup, you heard me) to lose and keep off 100 pounds. The journey has been frustrating at times, especially when I hit those really long plateaus or had gains, but slow is the only way I really know how to lose weight and to develop healthy living habits.

The slowest loser team means that we are all in this together. There is no race to be the "biggest loser" or the "fastest loser". We are not in a competition to vote each other off in order to win some Big Prize. We are all here to help each other, whether its by enthusiastic posts, words of encouragement, or just by knowing there are others out there in the same situation and that you are not alone.

I am fairly new to the team. It took me a while to find this team, but I am so happy I did. It's great to know that I'm not a failure just because I only lost 1/4 of a pound. Loosing slowly is better, it gives new habits a chance to take hold.

I'm so happy to find others who are going at a steady, reasonable pace! When I've lost only 1 or 1.5 lbs., I have people coming on and advising me what I might be doing wrong! Some have even suggested I'm not being honest about my tracking! I AM being honest, and I AM very happy with my "small" weight losses. I've had too many "diets" that I've half-starved myself...and lost tons of weight in the first weeks/months. Of course the inevitable happened each time. I am SO loving my food...now healthier, and ALL I love in moderation...more than ever before. I love Spark, and I love this Team!!!!

I am brand new to this team but I am hoping for support for what seems like taking forever to meet my goals. I have a trainer friend that always tells me when I complain about the scale "that's alright --the changes are happening on the inside". Great advice!

This team means that I have a loving supportive group that helps me i feeling better about my weight loss journey even though my weight loss can be frustratingly slow. Without this group I would have still told myself that my slow weight loss was a failure. Without you, I would have given up by now... I come here both for the relevant informatiom, and to laugh at my own imperfections while I continue on my journey.

This team means I am not alone. For me, maintaining the same weight over time is a small victory. My weight has always crept up before. Losing even a tiny bit and keeping it off is major success, worthy of celebration. Building stamina, clothes fitting better, increased strength and flexibility are all wonderful extra pluses. I can celebrate these things here, things important to me, without unflattering comparisons with others for whom their age, health and other factors may make possible results very different from mine.

It's ok to be a slow loser - I have permission to LIVE and, sometimes, ignore that scale and concentrate on making the right choices with food, my time (exercise and sleep) and not be judged by the scale or the tape measure. I am learning to love me and not compare my miniscule losses of pound fragments to anyone's what-look-like-huge-losses to me. Being a turtle is freeing.

I'm fairly new on the Slowest Loser team but immediately felt 'at home!' I feel I'm with like-minded members, members who are okay with losing slowly and who don't pressure me to lose, either slowly or quickly! No one is judgmental, I feel accepted as is. I have signed up for challenges ~ because they are do-able and not mind boggling. Challenging enough to keep me on my toes but not in the sense that I feel pushed (because I get frustrated when pushed!).

I know I'm on the RIGHT team and I'd urge others to join this team, it's a winner and that makes each team member a winner!!

This team means a great deal to me because it recognizes that some of us do not or cannot meet our goals as fast as others, even if we want to. I have cerebral palsy, I did not walk without the assistance of crutches or a walker until I was six. Slow and steady has been a lifelong mantra for me. I had hoped to be at my goal weight by now, but I'm not. Because of this team and this blog, I have a much easier time accepting my turtleness. In spite of all I've been through (major surgeries at seven, almost dying during that surgery, minor surgeries, rehab, etc) body acceptance has never been a major issue for me. However, when it came to losing weight I was discouraged at my inability to get to my goal as fast as I wanted to. This team has helped me get past this mental block and to not give up.

I have always approached 'dieting' as a race to a goal. Being a member of this team has shown me that I am taking a journey, step-by-step, like the turtle. This journey will last for my lifetime, and I know that tortoises/turtles live a long life, like I will as I continue of this healthy journey.

The Slowest Loser Team, to me, is a team of like-minded people who are less focused on the numbers on the scale and more focused on creating healthy habits for life. Yes, we all want to lose weight, but the emphasis is less on the numbers on the scale and which diet will help you drop pounds the fastest, and more on how can we make healthier choices in our everyday lives.

Something resonated within me when I read the first team blog. I continued to look forward to seeing others. Each one demonstrated the same struggles and philosophy I have concerning weight loss. To live healthy it has to be manageable. I have physical and emotional challenges which often prevent me from doing the things required of a rigid routine. I take medications that will either create weight gain, or make it difficult to lose. Fiinding a team which is composed of members who struggle, and don't lose 5 pounds every week, I am not doing what I should. Working harder doesn't help, and sometimes I even gain from too much restriction.
This is why I embrace this team. emoticon emoticon

I am just at the beginning of my weight loss journey and I was so happy to discover the Slowest Loser Team! I have a medical condition that not only restricts my activity, but necessitates taking medication that slows weight loss. I can't possibly keep up with people who are very active and lose kilos every week!

This is the team that I can relate to the most. The welcome I received was wonderful, and just knowing I'm in a group of people who are also doing their best but not going to break any weight loss records makes me feel at home.

Joining the Slowest Loser team, back in April of 2010, helped to put the entire weight loss journey back into perspective for me. I had lost about 130 pounds, in about a five year period. The journey was more than slow, and was filled with all yo-yo dieting that we read about so often. This time, however, I was stuck. And I was stuck badly. It had been four months since the scale had moved any further than the same five pounds. Compounded with that frustration was the self made commitment that this was going to be the final leg of the journey. That is not necessarly a bad thing. I had not given up in that four month period. But I was suffering from a bad case of the "woe is me disease." I switched from point counting to calorie counting. (This threw my point oriented mind into a tizzy.) And then I found Spark People. But, it wasn't until I began to enjoy the posts of the Slowest Loser that I began to realize that this would be my last attempt at weight loss. I could do it patiently, determinedly, and slowly. And with that mind set, I could do it for the rest of my life.
I have finally reached goal. I have lost a total of 166 pounds. I have learned to love exercise. And I have learned to be at peace with myself, my body and my metabolism. And, I never fail to record my calories, or read the Slowest loser post. Every Thursday I laugh, I commiserate, and a give the universe a thought of thanks for the gifts this site has given me.

I'm with the others I have read. I'm not alone in going slow. I have the support that I need. The Slowest Losers rock because we are in it for the long haul. This is not the team to get it done get it done now so I can attend a wedding or reunion or whatever for the weight to come back after the date. NOOO this is the team where the weight stays gone forever and ever because it is a lifesytle change. This is the best team for me. We are like minded in our goals of being healthy and remaining healthy for the rest of our lives.

To me the Slowest Loser team means I am not alone. Prior to joining this team I was frustrated by my slow weight loss. It seemed like everyone else was longing a ton of weight quickly and I beat myself up for not losing fast enough. This team has helped me realize that one pound is still one pound no matter how fast or slow I lose it. Sure it may have taken me three years to lose 60 lbs but that is still 60 lbs I will never see again. Losing slow is not a problem only one person faces. Many people are slow losers but are losers just the same.

This team is a positive response to all the weight loss shows and "methods" that set the example of huffing, puffing, sweating, suffering biggest losers losing huge amounts of weight at each weigh in. This team is a breath of normalcy in a world gone crazy with hideous expectations.
I do my best most of the time and have lost 62 pounds over the past 9 years. In 2009 I lost 30 pounds and last year my final total was only 5 pounds after many ups and downs. But I'm still on task and more motivated than ever. I'm trying for a pound a week, but as of January, my total is more like a pound a month. In Slowest Loser terms that's okay, and I'm glad for this team on Spark, as well as my Weight watcher friends at home that are happy with whatever achievements I am able to accomplish. Considering the limitation of a wheelchair, I'm feeling good about my progress. And I'm feeling a very positive reinforcement here on spark, as well. I may not be active on the team but I always know you're there for me, so emoticon emoticon

To me, The Slowest Loser Team means that I'm part of a group where the members are committed to their health for the long haul. So many people want to crash diet/over-exercise but we all know that's NOT healthy. We're ok with going slow, doing it the right way, and keeping the weight off for good!

To me, the Slowest Loser team means I am not alone when I only lose a fraction of a pound per week, or maybe add a pound instead. And because I am not alone in this, it is ok, and the team helps keep my perspective facing forward instead of getting bogged down in all the pesky little details that could drag me backwards. Changing my lifestyle to help me lose weight has been hard, so I think I most appreciate this team for shoring up my long term perseverance and smoothing the rough edges of my short term frustration and impatience.

To remind myself that there are others who are trying to lose weight slowly - to make lifelong changes for the better. Looking at health, eating, and exercise. Taking in account all of these and making the adjustments needed for total wellness, and not a quick-fix/ quick weight loss goal.

This is a place where being a loser is a compliment. Having tried various fad diets, I have finally learned that what is needed is less caloric intake and increased activity including cardio for the heart. emoticon Slow and steady can work if one keeps focused on the goal.

What does the Slowest Loser's Team mean to you?

Patience: This is a LIFEstyle, so there's no reason to rush. It doesn't matter whether you lose 2lbs in a week or 2lbs in a year, either way they're unhealthy fat that's gone forever.

Pride: I felt embarrassed knowing I've been losing this weight for almost five years, and I'm still not done yet. Now I focus on what I've achieved and feel proud of myself.

Fat loss, not weight loss: Losing slowly minimises muscle loss, so you'll have more definition and a higher metabolism at your goal weight.

Support: When people lose or gain weight quickly they disappear from the fitness community, which means you've lost another on-line friend. By losing slowly, we have the chance to forge stronger friendships that will last beyond weight loss and into weight maintenance.

It lets me know and understand that taking off the weight I've put on all of these years will take time but that this is okay because it didn't appear overnight and it won't go away overnight either. It also tells me that losing it slowly is the healthiest way to do it, that way it won't throw my body into shock and I can tone up along the way.

Oh Great Spirit who dwells in the sky, lead us to the path of peace and understanding. Our lives are so short here, walking upon Mother Earth's surface. Let our eyes be opened to all the blessings you have given us. Please hear our prayers, oh Great Spirit.

I have been with SP since June '07. Lost 20 lbs..gained 10 back...lost that 10 and gained 5 back. In January, I hit a very low point in my weight loss and was going to chuck it all when I found this team!! Since joining I've lost 2 lbs!! Now I realize that tracking is very important and that I must be responsible for my own actions. This teams provides challenges that I NEED to keep me on an even keel. So here is a big THANK YOU to all of you!!!!

It helps me tremendously to know I'm not alone in the struggle to get the numbers down. That even the slowest of us CAN lose the weight if we stay committed and focused. And this team has a wonderful support system. I'd be lost without it. emoticon

Although a new member, so far I like that they know what Dr.'s have been telling me and DH lately: Lose Slowly! My Chiropractor just told me that if you are obese, your bones are stretched to accomadate the excess fat and they need time to adjust! If you don't you will be in alot of pain! So easing into it takes the stress off of you! This team helps you enjoy that journey so much more! And having such understanding freinds on the team helps alot. We all don't need to be the Twiggy's of this world, just healthy, happy and down to what feels comfortable to us! Slowly! emoticon

The Slowest Loser reminds me that I don't have to be the fastest, thinnest, best, or first at anything I do. In fact, sometimes being slow and deliberate encourages me to be MY BEST!

Ask your doctor if getting off the couch is right for you.

When I started on my weigh loss journey and Spark back in 2009. I knew that it would be a long, long way to loose 135 pounds. I decided before I started that I would take small steps/changes that I could live with for the rest of my life. I have found success with these changes and have learned to have Patience along the trail. I was overjoyed to find this group because they share the same ideas. Although I have now loss my pet turtle of 32 years, I am a turtle at heart and continue to race toward the finish line one small step at a time. :) C. emoticon

It reminds me that I am not alone in my struggle to get healthy. Although I may not be seeing the progress I had hoped for right away I know that I must be patient and gentle with myself - I won't give in to frustration as that only leads to tears and falling off the wagon. Slow and steady WILL win in the end and to be in such supportive company makes the journey that much better! :-)

It's my reminder to be patient with my body. That although my metabolism isn't quite what it once was, I am still a fit tortoise who is going to kick that rabbit's ass at the finish! emoticon

It has been a roller coaster of a ride for me the last few years. I have been on SparkPeople for 3 years, but found it hard to get back on to the program as I was gaining weight. I finally found a team that had a different emphasis. It felt good to be on a team that was not all fluff, but at the same time not yelling at me to lose weight fast.

I thank all of my friends here on SparkPeople.

When I first joined SP, I had initiated a 'biggest loser' type contest with my husband to get fit for an upcoming trip to the beach. Our trip got postponed due to the gulf oil spill, and we both lagged off a bit from our challenge. I felt healthier and happier when I was watching my food and tracking my exercise, so SP and fellow Slowest Losers have kept me focused on what's important- Being the best ME I can be! Thanks, fellow tortoises! Let's keep doing this for OURSELVES, because we are worth it.

Started SparkPeople May 1, 2010.
