Hi all, its been a while since i've been on here. I missed you guys alot but so much has been going on in my life that i didnt really have time to log in to Spark.

I'm still doing my thing though even though there hasn't been any weightloss going on but at least there's been no real gain either so i'm happy about that. Glad to see most people still here and some new faces too.

Hope everyone is ok, i will try my best to check in more often cause i really do need to be here so i can kick this weight once and for all!

Well have a great day everyone.

Scazarecc- We gave up drinking pop and it is making a difference. I read somewhere you can gain upwards of 10 pounds a year from drinking pop alone!!! The worst part is the first 3-4 days with the caffeine withdrawal. I still drink coffee and it was still pretty harsh. Good luck! Maybe that will be the push to get you through.

I called the doctors office yesterday, my thyroid is good, but my cholesterol is high. I was pretty devastated to be honest. I have always prided myself on the fact that my health numbers were good. Blood pressure, cholesterol, ect.. Now they are both climbing and it's time to take a serious look at what I am doing (and not doing).

So I am starting a Cholesterol lowering diet today, I am using sparkpeople's meal plan as a guide and substituting when it's stuff like tofu (yuck). On the brightside, I did weigh in this morning and am down 2 lbs! It's a great start and one I'm going to use as a springboard to keep going!

WOOHOO Lori! Way to go!

I check in with the doctor tomorrow to find out what my blood panel shows. Hopefully, my thyroid is good. I am trying so hard, but still gaining. If it's not my thyroid, she is going to put me on Adipex to try to help jumpstart. I am looking forward to getting this show on the road!

I'm feeling proud of myself today. I DID NOT want to work out but I did it anyway.

And of course, I felt good during the workout and now I feel fabulous that it's done.

Loving the sun here in Sacramento, California. Just did my power walk for 30 minutes.. man that felt so good!!! Scale is still stuck, but I am doing everything right and feel great! Looking forward to the weekend and a lot of yard work! Going to work extra hard to give my arms a good workout.

I just read an article saying that the Wii is a good fitness tool & part of the reason is that it makes exercise fun so you do more! Wow! If we find exercises we can have fun doing, we will do more.

Wow Rayne, I'd have a mental block about fitness too! You should be proud of yourself for working to overcome that!

HartKitty, that book does sound interesting. Sometimes people need to read the same information but in a different way, before it sinks in for them.

I don't remember who asked (thanks for caring!) but no, I'm not on the road. I will probably be home for a few weeks (we're always slow in the spring until all the mud dries up).

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks Sugarbe,

I think that for the first time I am actually doing this for myself and no other reason. I have hated exercise ever since I was 12 & my father used to make all of us kids do 150 pushups, 150 situps and 150 squatthrust every night before we could go to bed. I was in EXCELLENT shape physically, but he was an @#$%##$ in every way and mentally I had built a wall against exercise ever since. I think that the Wii is more like a game than actual exercise, and yet it makes you sweat and use various muscles and since I am sticking to it, I have seen results and am almost excited about doing it everyday.

Thanks Again,

Rayne

Hi Sugar - That's the attitude! I blogged about this very topic today. I'm on other teams where people just melt away week by week but I have come to terms with my slower pace. It DOES add up over time! :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday and that the week ahead brings you good things!

Hi Turtles, I love our Team! It's so great to have other people that take it off slowly as well. I've finally accepted that I lose at the rate of LESS than 1 lb. per week.......and that's OK! I'll just keep doing my program and I WILL reach my goal. It's very realistic, and my calculator indicates it's do-able in less than a 2-year time frame. Heck if I'd started 2 years ago I'd be done now, so what difference does it really make. The important part is to keep it off for good! emoticon emoticon

Good Morning team:

I can't believe I am saying I am glad the w/e is over. It was enjoyable spent about an hour in the pool yesterday with my ten year old - playing marco polo, working on her swimming and doing some laps. My butt cheeks (sorry) are feeling it.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Hi everyone. I haven't been around in a while, sort of lost my spark these past feww weeks and fell way off track. I am three pounds heavier as a result and i'm feeling pretty crappy about that right now. Nevertheless, i'm back here at spark to try to put myself back on trcak and regain control of my own body and mind. This road is such a bumpy one and trying to go slow and steady isn't always easy so i just have to put the past behind me and try to move forward now. Wish me luck ok.

Anyway, I wish for u all a great night.

Happy Saturday!

I had a GREAT workout day yesterday ST + 16+ miles on the bike AND aqua aerobics. Today we being the process of replacing our double oven. It's gotten more and more difficult to wedge the potholder into the corner of the door to hold it SHUT.

I do plan to do some more pedaling later in the day and have some core strength training planned as well.

Need to get to the grocery and buy some fresh produce too!

PalmTree - You are 10# smaller than you were in October. Yes, you would like more but that is better than where you were.

I've read that it takes over an hour a day of exercise to lose weight. You might see if you can up your activity a little. Other than that keep on tracking your food, etc. You will lose the weight.

How slow is too slow? I've been on this journey since October 15, 2010 and to date have only lost 10 pounds. That is way too slow. Realistically I thought I would be down in the range of 15 to 20 but its just not happening. My original plan or goal was 40 pounds by the end of June. Since I now realize that is not going to happen I have restructered it 15 by June.

I've been pretty consistent with 45 to 60 minute workouts 5-6 days a week. I will admit since October there have probably been 4 weeks where I only got one workout in for the entire week but I wouldn't think that would stop the progress. I eat in my goal range of 1200-1550. Granted my favorite pair of jeans fit better but the scale is discouraging. I know I shouldn't go by the scale but I do.

Help - any advice?

Yesterday I walked 4 miles in 1 hour 35 minutes. That's a good pace for my short legs (I'm only 5 ft. tall). It felt GREAT! Today I'll be getting my exercise through yard work...mowing, edging, cleaning out flower beds, etc. I'm still having trouble with my calorie intake, but am working on it.

Don't give up!! This morning I hit 15 pounds lost, having started on January 8 this year. This past week I ramped up the type and number of minutes of exercise and I know that's what got the scales moving again. It's coming off slowly, but it's coming off.

Alright MARTHAMBRYCE!!! Doesn't it feel GREAT?! That is very encouraging for all of us. I know all too well from past experiences, as I'm sure everyone here can relate to, that it can be so very frustrating when it feels like we are not making progress....then you see it and it brings that huge winning smile! Keep up the great work everyone and have a GREAT PRE-TGIF!

Happy Wednesday,

43 Minutes on my wii fit and 10 minutes on my new Jillian Michaels Fitness 2010. Man she is tough and it doesnt give you enough time to change positions before the exercise starts. But it makes me sweat anyway so that is a good sign.

One of my challenges is the heat in the deep south. I am already planning strategies for walking as it gets warmer (80s yesterday & today). I am doing some walking as soon as I get to work - can't do it before work since it is still dark & I already get up at 5:00 AM. I will start using my treadmill at home & DH & I will walk later in the evening when it is a little cooler.

Next week Wednesday I get the cast off my foot and for the first time in my 42 years I'm looking forward to being able to exercise again and am already plotting routes to walk because I want to do the (702 fun walk of 5Km) its a big deal here in Gauteng where I live. I'ts my goal because I have never entered a walk before preferring to get as little exercise as possible, But Spark has got into my mind.

I walked 3 miles in 70 minutes. The next time I walk this route I'll pick up the pace and shoot for less time. The wind played a part in my speed on the way home. I was walking into it. Maybe I burned a few more calories because of the wind resistance! emoticon

Maggie - Walking is exercise! The big thing is to walk fast enough to get your heart rate up. It doesn't take all that much.

I've been walking seriously for three weeks and the weight is finally coming off! I started back on SP at the beginning of the year, and have now lost 5 pounds. emoticon

Yep! I'm a slow loser, but it's coming. Even my doctor's scale showed the loss!!! And my pants are loose. Not quite time to take them in, but I can see it coming.

Can anyone recommend a walking shoe not sneaker? I'm looking at Merrel's Circuit Breeze or sketcher that looks similar. Any review would be greatly appreciated

Happy Spring All: I've injured my back and have not been as active these past 2 weeks and I've stalled on losing. This is very frustrating. I'm going for a walk today since that doesn't seem to hurt as much maybe if I walk longer that will make up for not going to the gym. I'm very aggravated about my body betraying me from lifting something to heavy spring cleaning. Getting older and body seems to heal slower. Have a good day. And congratulations on anyone who does lose. Keep eating healthy and stay within our calorie range.

Hi everyone,
Hope you're having a great weekend. I finished my third week of training for 7 k race last week. I had a rough training day on Thursday and was quite lame on Friday. Rested my leg up a bit, and went back at it on Saturday. Today is also a day of rest. Got plenty of other stuff done. Hope you have a great week.

I started the Mind Over Body 10-Step Plan today. I found it on the Healthy Lifestyle Resources/Wellness Resources section of SparkPeople. Here are the 10 steps:

1. Put "I" into Your Vocabulary
2.Take the Stress Out of Weighing In
3. Move Beyond Toxic Guilt
4. Taming the Emotional Eating Beast
5. Take the Mystery Out of your Motivation Problems
6. Write Your Vision Statement
7. Plot Your Strategy
8. Give Yourself a Reality Check-Up
9. Pave the Way for Persistence
10. Learn From Your Own Experience

I've just started today and my first goals are to learn why I eat when I'm not hungry, why I think eating will help me feel better and why I think I have to eat just because I see someone else get something to eat. There's a whole lot more to learn, but I'm starting with those three.

I turned 50 last year and want to make sure my body can do what I want it to do as I get older. I'm at least 30 pounds overweight right now. If you look at my weight tracker, it shows a goal weight of 172. That's just my FIRST weight goal. When I reach that one I'll make a new one. I've found that making smaller goals keeps me more motivated than looking at the big picture.

I never cared for Corned Beef & Cabbage. Mom would always fix it for St. Patrick's Day, and we weren't Irish! But now that I am older I have a hunger for it once in a while. Like they say, "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone!"

Time to start the Corned Beef & Cabbage for the family. Me, I'm looking forward to the Irish Coffee's, I dont really like Corned beast or cooked cabbage, but its only once a year and everyone else does.

Happy St. Pat's everyone! I can't even look at the food thread, or cravings will kick in. I don't know why this day is a trigger, but it is. I'm keeping hydrated, blood levels steady, and distracting.

RUPS good job on just moving on to the next meal. That's very wise of you! I read somewhere that one indulgent meal will not add even 1 lb (unless it's 3500 extra calories) it's the giving up that will put a snafu into things. You are SMART. Way to go!

Hi everybody. I'm not feeling too great right now; went to the gym and got an awesome workout in then was starving when i came home. So i had this humongous breakfast and now i feel absolutely uncomfortable and uneasy. Sheesh! Wish i could rewind the morning and undo it! Anyway, i'm pressing on. it'll take way more than one horribly high calorie breakfast to keep me down.

Well I wish for u all a very happy and healthy day ok.

Yesterday is over! We can't go back and redo anything that happened...But we can make better choices today! With God's grace we have a NEW chance everyday!

My doctor is from India and talks about being the turtle-patience,persistance and hard work. All in baby-steps. I recently started collecting turtles and wear a turtle necklace for a reminder of it's meaning. I'm so glad I found this group. Go turtles!

way tp gp LORIKNITS!
so many people want a quick fix that they don't realize that being healthy is a lifestyle. i work with people who talk about their dieting "successes". they loose a lot of weight in ashort time. then gain it back and sometimes with more lbs a short time later.
