my goal for the week is to eat right this week. Stick to a good healthy clean eating week. Things are slowing down and I want to get myself on track and stay on track even when busy.

My goal for this week was to get back into strength training again, twice a week. I started with my own weights Wednesday and today I went to an open house at a local gym and did an hour of body toning, which included lots of weight work.

emoticon Thanks SP!

p.s. Just got a call that I won a free month at the gym, so I should have no excuses for this healthy habit for awhile!

Hello I'm new but this week I've been working on getting more workouts in. I used to do a small one in the morning and a longer one in the evening but for awhile I was barely getting one in. So this week I've been working on getting in both workouts. :)

I started my goals this week as well. It has been difficult to make these changes but I keep reminding myself that the end result is worth it. I looked at some old pictures of myself last night when I was much heavier and didn't like what I saw. These reminders help me to see my progress as well as remind me that eating badly leads to major weight gain.

I selected drinking 6 glasses of water a day as my goal. I started yesterday at lunch and at the end of the day I had drunk 5 glasses. So I did not meet my goal for yesterday but I did much better than I have in quite a while. Today I aim to meet the challenge head on. Will report tomorrow on how I did and I expect to be successful.

Blessed and highly favored,

My week 1 goal of getting a good breakfast in has been going well. I bought Wheaties Fuel cereal and tried it this morning -i was filling although alittle sweet but I found that at 10:30 i still felt good not like I was dragging and looking for a snack. My week too goal is too fold the main one which is more of a constant is to not allow myself to fall into the habit of eating like "crap" just because something in my day doesn't go well or my husband doesn't do what I wanted him to do or react the way i was expecting. I took a long walk on monday at work when I felt poorly and stuck with my planned healthy meal choice and even made a healthy dinner choice for myself and my family. I will not allow myself to fall into the habit of being an emotional eater.

My week two challenge is to eat more fruit and veggies every day. It is a challenge this week because I am trying to save money while I am staying in NY for my daughter's graduation from New York University this week. She asked me for food requests last week, and I am happy to say she got a lot of fruits and veggies for my dad and I to eat while we stay in her dorm for a couple of days. We are off to the hotel today for two days, and I promise to make healthy choices with all my meals and snacks. We plan to go to Joe's Pizza (one of the top pizza places in NYC), so I will get a huge salad for dinner tonight.

We're going to ESPN Zone in Times Square for dinner tomorrow night so we can watch the Yankees v. Twins game on TV. I promise to get a veggie entree or huge salad for dinner, too.

Not sure what we're doing for breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday. We're leaving on the 7:30 flight back to California on JetBlue, so I'll have to bring some fruit or a healthy sandwich and/or salad. We are trying to eat up all the perishables before we leave the dorm today.

Look into your heart, work towards your dreams, and they will come true.

My negative behavior is eating fast food for lunch during the workweek. I will solve this by packing my lunch (and dinner if need be) the night before so I have no excuse to go out. And, if I feel like I just want to get out of the office, I'll go for a walk instead.

My week 2 Challenge is just that for me. I thought I could control myself last night. Challenge was to have one portion controled snack after dinner. I ate 3. Now in regard to that....I have been known to eat for hours grazing on anything and everything so 3 portion controlled snacks is better...just not good enough. I did eat an extra veggie so that challenge is going well. The promise to exercise at least 5 X a week is also a challenge for me. I am a work in progress.....

Like so many others in this thread (makes me feel better that I am not the only one!), I have a bad habit of setting my alarm as late as I think I can get away with every night, and STILL hitting snooze. This means that when I do finally drag myself out of bed, I have to rush around like crazy to be ready in time.

I'm really trying to break this habit, and I think I have a solution. I'm going to set my alarm back 20 minutes, with the goal of getting up and doing 20 minutes of yoga. That way, ideally I will get up early AND get in a morning stretch. Worst case scenario, even if I snooze for 10 minutes, I'm still out of bed 10 minutes earlier than I would have been.

My first bad habit was not using Spark People to help me keep track of my progress =P

Now, I'm working on my habit of snacking. Instead I'm grabbing the water, it's more likely thirst than hunger anyways.

This sounds like a great challenge. I have quite a few bad habits I'd like to break, but my worst bad habit, which could encompass a whole lot of other smaller habits, is that I procrastinate. My other bad habit I'd like to work on this week is drinking more water and less pop. I used to drink 3 L of water a day (and I'm supposed to drink 3 L on my medication) but recently I find it difficult to make myself drink as much as I should. I also find that I'm drinking far too much pop.

As far as procrastination goes, I find it all too easy to sit on my butt on the couch and use the computer and Internet instead of doing the multitude of other things I need to be doing. Primarily, exercising! I'm hoping that with my new Wii Fit Plus I'll be motivated to stay active. Today, even though I was exhausted and sore, I forced myself out of my home and went on an hour long walk with a stop at the park halfway through. I also did my daily Wii Fit Plus time. That game is so fun! This is what I'll continue to do this week. Every time I want a glass of Coke, I'll drink a glass of water instead, and everytime I think of doing something active and start to decide that I'll just sit on my butt instead, I'll jump up and just DO IT. :)

I tend to watch alot of TV at night because of being tired and needing some mindless activity to do. I am going to start moving while I watch TV instead of just sitting on the couch. I am also going to try to scrapbook at least one page a night/day instead of watching TV.

My negative behavior is going overboard on my calories during the weekends. I'm turning it around by relaxing and stretching after dinner, brushing my teeth and I will be done eating for the day - evenings are always when I go totally crazy!

My change this week is to get some fitness on the cruise I'm going on tomorrow instead of the habit I have when going on vacation to eat eat eat! I want to work out each day I'm on the cruise. So, that's Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It shouldn't be too hard!!

My weekly progress - Monday, strength training
Tuesday - was supposed to be cardio, but since I was going to be playing golf last night I didn't go to the gym, then golf got rained out so no exercise yesterday

emoticon
Today is ST again, but I'm going to get some cardio in as well to make up for yesterday.

I know I'm jumping in kind of late in the game, but I have a horrible habit of skipping breakfast. I've managed to have breakfast two out of the three days this week though! I really like the idea of making it the night before so I'm going to try that. It will certainly make meeting my calorie goals easier! ^_^

Trying to avoid the sweet tooth I get around 3pm everyday. I do great in the morning and lunch but around that time my sweet tooth caves in. I will try to prepare for that moment by bringing a piece of fruit or yogurt and be stronger.

My negative to positive habit is going to be the amount of time I spend sitting down. I've printed out a few exercises that I can do at my desk at work. (I'm not going to try them during the commute, don't worry!) But if I can get in the habit of even 1/2 hour of additional work outs during my 10 1/2 hours on my behind, I think I'll see some progress!

Hi I'm not new to SP but am new to this group! So glad i found you all because this matches my philosophy to a tee! One healthy habit at a time will get me to where i want to be!

I am a night owl but get up early everyday for work (that pesky work gets in the way doesn't it? LOL!!) so I want to concentrate on getting a minimum of 7 hours of sleep a night. Since this means I need to back up my current bedtime by hours this might be the only goal I need to work on during all of May! I will start tonight and at least go to bed at the appointed time and work on it slowly but surely!

Ok with some thought I have decided my negative behavior is eating at night after dinner. In order for that to become a positive behavior, I am going to choose one item and have that as an evening snack and try my darnest to stick to this plan. I can do well all day long and the evenings are the worst for me. This is going to be quite a challenge for me. Thank you all for being here.

2. Work, walk daily for 15 minute break

In the past this break involved the vending machine and something not good for me, that was before SparkPeople. I walked yesterday and today and it was great. Stepping out of the office and walking the mall was energizing. I also got to take a peak at the outfit I want to buy when I reach my first goal next week and reach 20 pounds lost.

Thanks for the reminder, RunningWild! It's a new habit to do it daily, so it takes time, but sticking to it either way will have a positive outcome in the end (even though I don't feel so good typing it in!)

I really like what you had to say. I was reading that and thinking to myself... "Wow, I do that too!" I'm just starting to work out and I never really have enjoyed fitness much, although once it's done I feel good. I'm going to try to change my self thoughts from here on out! I'll tell myself "i'll feel stronger when I'm working out" and "I will sleep better at night!" (because I'll be exhausted). Thanks for being encouraging! Good luck on your journey!

I'm trying to be consistent in tracking my food and being aware of what I put in my mouth each day! I usually track my food, but when it comes to a day where I fall of the horse I just ignore tracking.

Hopefully, I won't fall of the horse, but if I do I'll track what I ate to be aware.

~ ok, I can do this ~ I have a really bad habit of leaving making my lunches until the very last second in the morning. This leads to throwing "whatever" into my lunch kit. Starting tonight, I'm going to put everything together the night before. Not only will this ensure that I make healthier choices BUT it'll also give me more "relax" time in the morning.

My biggest negative habit is procrastination. Everything from exercise to housecleaning to shopping. I've convinced myself I work best under pressure but really I just get it done (not always my best work) when I'm running out of time. Having a deadline or a scheduled appointment for those things doesn't always work in my favor, it just makes me put them off longer.
So this week I'm going to do a couple of things. First, I am making a list of things I want accomplish this week. Some things will be daily (exercise), some things just need to be done this week. I love checking things off a list. emoticon
Then, I am not going to make a deadline for everything. My goal will be to finish checking off the list by the end of the week. Of course, there will be things I do daily because I know realistically I can't do a week's worth of workouts on Saturday! But I'm hoping that by taking the pressure off of trying to everything else in one day, I'll be less likely to procrastinate.

My biggest negative habit when it comes to exercise is that I tend to think of the negatives when it's time to go to the gym or out for a run/walk - "I don't feel like getting all sweaty", "I might hurt my leg again", I have to go change into my workout clothes", "I have too many other things to do with that time", etc.

This week I'm going to focus on the positive things about the exercise - "I'll be stronger a few weeks from now", "I'll feel good about myself when I'm done", "I'll have a fun conversation with someone at the gym when I get there", "I'll get some fresh air and get to check out the neighbors' gardens", etc.

Whenever a negative thought enters my mind, I'll replace it with a positive one.

Anyone else have other positive thoughts I can use?

Thanks

I think I will deal with two problems this week. First I will slow down with the pop and possibly eliminate it in another week. I'm trying to start slow so I can really stop dinking it. Then I will work on my snaking. I tend to take advantage of it and eat way too much like a meal worth when it's suppose to just be a snack.

My bad habit is procrastinating especially with exercise. I am working on the procrastination part. I know I put too much to accomplish in one day on my schedule and then it gets me down if I don't accomplish all that's on the list. So, I am working on making my list managable to accomplish, which will lead to not procrastinating as often.

AND exercise in the morning except on Sundays (day off).

My bad habit is kinda a double. I procrastinate, and therefore become unorganized cause it's faster to just shove stuff somewhere than it is to actually go through and put it where it goes. I'm going to work on making and sticking to daily to-do lists.

I have so many bad habits, it's hard to choose just ONE! lol So far I have been doing very well with healthy breakfasts. I bought a NINJA system a few weeks back and have had smoothies almost every day during the work week. It's so quick and so easy and if I use the greek yougurt or the protein powder I stay full longer and can make it to 10 am when it's time for my heatlhy snack. I guess THAT will be my goal. Healthy snacks. I have a bad habit of snacking on candy and cookies when I get stressed at work so I am going to have carrots and celery for crunch, yogurt with fruit for sweet and string cheese for protein. they will be my healthy snacks and the I will save the chocolate for a treat once in a while.

Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength

I must learn to love the fool in me- the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries...

Happy Sunday and Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there!

I hope all is going well with everyone and that you are meeting your goals to turn those healthy baby steps into healthy life-long habits.

This week's challenge is to take one negative behavior and find a positive solution to it.

This is going to take some thinking and planning on your part, but in order for us to truly change our behavior we must first recognize that change is necessary and then develop ways to integrate the healthy habits into our lives.

Make sure you read this weeks Healthy Challenge post on the Challenge Forum!

Make it a GREAT Spark Week!

HAPPY SPARKING!
Nancy
