Hey Seni, good to see you back! How's the snow pack up there in Door?

Shirley, I'm assuming that you want to get rid of those carb foods in your favorites so they don't keep popping up when you track, right? You can go to the screen where you add Favorites and click on the Favorite Options button, then pick Edit List of Favorites.

That will take you to a screen where you can remove the foods you no longer want on your Favorite list.

Bonnie- I have TKR's on both knees 6 weeks apart, so I had a longer "adjustment period" than some. I was able to sleep on my side, even right after the surgery. I just had to have a little help, have the leg that was just done on the top, put it slightly to the front, on top of a couple of pillows, with another behind me so I wouldn't roll backwards and jolt myself awake in pain.

I was back in the pool exercising within about 6 weeks, and off pain meds even before that. But, again, everyone is different!! Don't measure your progress against anyone else!!! Going in, your Dr. should have told you it can take up to a year to get "back to normal". Be patient, you'll get there.

WooHoo new furniture Sonia! I know you're really excited. Oh yes I remember moving last year and how long it took to clean up afterwards. That was the dustiest place I've ever lived, thankfully this place has laminate floors throughout except in the two bedrooms so much easier to keep clean. I love my carpet but I've been a lot healthier since we moved and got away from all of the carpet.

I have a question for everyone. I want to start tracking my food on Sparkpeople again but all of the foods I have saved are from when I ate carbs. I don't eat any of that stuff anymore. Is there a way to just delete everything I have saved or do I need to just set up a whole new account maybe? I don't want to do that but maybe that's what I need to do.

It's cold here too but not as cold as up north.
Didn't go to friends house today. So trying to work on some chores. I took everything out of one of the my dresser drawers so I guess that's one project of the day cleaning out the dresser.
Need to go run some errands so I hope everyone has a great Friday and a Happy New Year! emoticon emoticon

Laurie, the snow pic is lovely and it doesn't look too cold. Thst is always a plus. Good news that you are feeling better now too.
Shirley, enjoy your time at home. The days will go fast and what you get done is always a bonus. We never get everything we want to accomplish done
The last few days have been lovely but it is going to cool down quite a bit.

Good to hear from you Laurie. The picture is beautiful but please keep all of that white stuff up there with you! The temp has been steadily dropping here all day today. I think tonight I will be putting on my winter pjs again. Sorry to hear you were sick. Lots of stuff going around here too. Just found out this morning that the husband of a friend I was supposed to have breakfast with this morning has the flu and he got a flu shot. She said the Drs. office was very busy and the Dr. said she's been seeing a lot of flu. UGH! We go to the same Dr. and I'm supposed to go in there next week to have blood work done. I think I need to wear a mask and gloves. LOL! Hope I don't get it. Unfortunately the wonderful PA they have there is on maternity leave so they are really short handed.

My notifications have been turned off forever Laurie and I can't figure out how to get them turned back on.

There's a lot of information on my dad's family not so much on my mom's though. Someone in her family and her have put together quite a bit and she gave me a copy of everything. Someday maybe when I retire - ha ha - I will have time to look at it. I'm really feeling like I need to sit down with mom and ask her lots of questions too and write it down. I just don't get to see her very much. I would love to just go out there by myself and spend a week with her. Just her and me. Well maybe I would have to see my siblings too.

Having a hard time staying awake today. Haven't accomplished very much. Sorted through some pictures my ds wants, so many more I need to do. Maybe I will do it tomorrow if I don't go to a friends house for the day. Not looking forward to it. I have boxes upon boxes of pictures. UGH! I'm starting to realize that a lot of them probably need to be tossed or stored. I will never use all of them in scrapbooks if I ever get to that point. I really need to get motivated and just can't. I have gotten quite a lot of other stuff done this week so that's good.

DH is working from home today and tomorrow. I hate to turn on the TV or anything for fear it will distract him so I'm trying to keep busy with other stuff.

A belated Happy Christmas to you all! My notifications got turned off again and I've been to distracted to check up on y'all.

Welcome VirginiaGirl! I had my first replacement surgery when I was 52, but it was long overdue by then.

I was sick the week before Christmas but kept plugging and we had limited internet while up north so I wasn't online a whole lot over the past couple weeks. I don't mind going unplugged for a little while but it's good to have fast access again. We got snow on Friday last week and the temps didn't bottom out so we could go outside in it and not have body parts freeze and break off.

My brother and I spent some time doing geneology stuff. He is coming down next week and will do more. I need to write down some of my mom's stories while we have that opportunity.

Time for breakfast. I better get going!

Laurie

You guys should move to the west coast as we can watch the ball drop in New York and it is only 9:00 p.m. here. Then we go to bed!
We have not gone out in years also. We stay home and have a nice dinner together.

We're with you Shirley. Can't remember our last New Year's Even outing - we both are sound asleep emoticon when midnight rolls around usually. Although we did stay up to usher in the new millenium (2000) by lighting sparklers & dancing about outside at the stroke of midnight. Or we tried ..the temp was in the low minus 30's C and there was no way those sparklers were going to catch and burn. However, we did dance about for about 30 seconds! Hard to believe that was 16 years ago... emoticon

A very Happy New Year to all.

We don't have any big plans either for New Years. We never do, I would rather just stay home. We got a gift card for Olive Garden so we are going there for dinner on New Year's Eve. We usually watch a movie and try to stay up to midnight but haven't succeeded some years. 10:00 rolls around and I'm ready for bed.

Waiting to hear from a friend to see if she is coming over today. She wasn't feeling well earlier and wasn't sure. I've been up since 3:30 am. Not sure why but I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. So if she doesn't come maybe I will take a short nap. I have plenty to do if she doesn't come. I got the office files cleaned out for the year and transferred to our new filing cabinet that locks. I'm glad that's done. The office is back to it's new norm,. cluttered but at least we can move around again. Put away wrapping paper etc. from holidays. Slowly but surely I'm getting things checked off my to do list for this week.

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!!!

As for me, I am back at work and glad to get back to a "normal" routine even if only for 3 days this week.

I went way off track over the holiday for about 4 days and I can FEEL it. Thankfully, we have no real plans for New Year's so I can hopefully stay on track a little better.

Have a fantastic Tuesday!!!

Merry Christmas everyone! It was a whirlwind Christmas but turned out so much better then I thought considering we spent it with my ds's in-laws and then yesterday the drive to Tennessee and the baptism of my dh's grandbaby. Everyone was on their best behavior and for some reason we were even invited over to his ex mil's house for dinner afterwards. We had been invited, then they thought it would be too uncomfortable to have me there so we were uninvited and then as we were leaving his ex mil came up and invited us anyway. Everyone was friendly and nice. The food was delicious. It was one of the best get togethers we have had with them since we got married. I think they are finally accepting that I'm a part of the family now like it or not. We left just as they were getting ready to open gifts. I knew that would be uncomfortable and I was ready to get home. We got home at 7 pm. It was a long drive up and back but so worth it. My dh got to see his first grandchild baptized and he even wore the same christening gown that my dh's daughter had worn. He also got to spend Christmas with his kids, it's been years since he has gotten that chance. DH is off today so we are going to do some straightening and cleaning up. The oven needs to be cleaned for one thing. The stuff that you put off but know it needs to get done!

Charlotte hope the blizzard isn't too bad. It was 73 degrees here yesterday. Today the high is 60 but it's supposed to get warm again. It's cloudy but better then snow and ice.
I need to run and get started. Waiting on dh to get it together. It's really hard to get him motivated to get going when he doesn't have to go to work. Me I'm the opposite I feel like we've wasted the whole morning and it's only 10:30. I'm ready to get going and get done.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Well, the Christmas Day blizzard is taking its time getting here, but it is coming by the looks of the weather radar! We probably could have gone to Winnipeg to dh's uncle as orginally planned, but didn't want to take the chance. The snow is just now starting (6 pm). We had a quiet day - dinner at noon with gifts afterwards, listened to the Queen's christmas message and Handel's Messiah on the radio. Late night on Christmas Eve with a beautiful church service and delivering some gifts to the neighbours on the way. emoticon Hope everyone had a happy celebration and is looking forward to the new year.

Charlotte,
I sure hope you don't get a blizzard but I've been hearing the warnings too. My aunt lives in South Dakota and they are supposed to get hit too. I just found out my brother and family that live in Missouri are going to Colorado where the rest of my family lives today for the holidays. I'm so envious. I wish I could be there. I get so homesick during the holidays. :(

Karen, just not crazy about our weather, we are having the same, in the 60s the next couple of days and I heard maybe possible tornadoes this weekend too. Last Christmas Eve it was very warm and we were having torrential rains and flash flooding they were telling people to stay home! So I called my ds and told him they should just stay home and try and get in the next day. We had to turn the air conditioning on it was that hot. So much for wearing a Christmas sweater. LOL! Just too hot. This afternoon we are going to dil's parents for Christmas with them. Not particularly what I wanted to do but it's the way it is. I wouldn't get to see my granddaughter otherwise and it's been 4 weeks again! Tomorrow we are getting up at 5 and hoping to be out of the house by 7 to drive to North Tennessee for my dh's grandbabies christening, then turning around after the service and driving home. Not looking forward to 8 to 9 hours in the car. Hoping there's not a lot of traffic on the interstate and NO rain! I guess that will be our church service. Our church is having 6 services today and none tomorrow. I don't think we will make it to our church today.

Karen my cough is better. I was pretty congested during the night and just had a horrible time, I think I tossed and turned more then I slept. Then my lower back started hurting terribly. I finally got up and took something and I finally went back to sleep. I think I just did too much yesterday, Grocery shopping, laundry, and a lot of cooking. We have laminated floors and I didn't have on shoes or slippers. I think I learned my lesson.
Hope you can get through the holidays without getting sick. I think we need a humidifier. My dh and I are both having severe dry itchy skin and sinus problems. Let me know how the infuser works, I might have to ask for one for my birthday.

Need to run and finish getting things ready for today and tomorrow since I don't know what time we will get home today.

One more emoticon till Christmas. emoticon emoticon Wishing everyone a happy time with family and friends and all the best in the new year. emoticon

A severe winter blizzard warning is our forecast for tomorrow. Plans to take Christmas dinner to dh's uncle in the city are postponed to Wed. Looks like we'll be able to make it to the church service tonight though. Ah, the joys of a Canadian winter on the prairies!

Shirley, I've been having the same problem. I've had a cold, but the coughing is morphing into something else. I started doing breathing treatments yesterday, and am hoping I can stave off bronchitis or pneumonia. My son and DIL in Texas gave me a Do Terra essential oil diffuser with oils to help with breathing and to build up the immune system. They had me open it up early, and I've been using it all week. I have been sleeping better at night with it, but once I get up, the coughing starts.

This weather is sure wacky! We are supposed to have near record warmth for the next few days. I guess it will be nice for kids who get bikes or skateboards for Christmas. We are having a big dinner this evening with my son and DIL's family (they just live next door), then we are going to the early Christmas Eve service. Tomorrow we'll use the leftovers (ham and roast beef) for sandwiches. I will probably break down and make cinnamon rolls because it's kind of become a Christmas tradition. No one needs them, but they sure are good.

I hope everyone has a wonderful, peaceful, joyous Christmas!

Karen

emoticon VIRGINIAGIRL. Good to meet you and have you join in the conversation. I had a right hip replacement in 2014 & haven't looked back. Pain is pain no matter what your age. I've never quite understood why younger folks have to suffer when relief is possible just because of a number.
Out of sight out of mind is the key to coping with seasonal treats for sure. All my baking that's not given away immediately goes straight to the freezer, but as we all know, frozen tastes good too. Drinking water when the urge hits often works for me. All this pressure around eating and goodies is really stressfull. I'd love to be able to just relax around it all and take it or leave it without feeling so guilty! emoticon Oh well...happy thoughts!

That is another plus about not working. I don't have anyone bringing goodies to tempt me.
Shirley I hope you only have a little cough. Also, yes, we are all worried about Lynn. I am expecting that she is struggling with her health problems. We are all sending prayers and hugs her way.

Yes struggling with the food too. With eating low carb my plan was to stick to it and then just cheat on the holiday or luncheon then right back on it. LOL! Not so much! I've been baking cookies and eating way too many sweets and I feel horrible. Can't wait to get back on track and start feeling better. Just get me through the weekend! Today we are having pizza and I don't know what else. There's only 5 of us here.

Wow! 7 years ago today I had my first knee replacement! I'm so glad all of that is behind me. Hope that shot works for you Karen!

I have thought the same thing about switching to the Hot Tub but can one of us do it or can only Lynn do it? She must be pretty sick to be gone this long. We probably need an asst. leader to pick up the slack when she's gone. I hope she comes back soon. I miss her!

Only 12 month employees report today. I'm the first one who gets here and we are on the other end of the building from the superintendent and others etc. as I'm pulling in a policeman goes tearing around me and flying across the parking lot, as I'm parking I see another one driving around through the buses on my side of the parking lot. Kind of scary, made dh stay on phone with me until I was safely locked in the office.

I started coughing yesterday. I'm so hoping it's just asthma and not going into bronchitis. The weather is crazy, up and down, up and down! I'm just wondering if my Dr. will be open tomorrow or Monday if I need them. Not the first time I've been sick over the holidays and the Dr. has been closed. I don't have time to be sick! Plus I want to see my grandbabies this weekend!!! I can go from just a cough to full blown bronchitis and near pneumonia in just a matter of a few hours. So I really need to watch it. My asst. just told me I should have stayed home, probably should have. Oh well!
Off to clean the office and get some work done. As little as possible hopefully!

Good morning everyone!

Thankfully today is my last work day for the week! IT HAS BEEN A LONG ONE!

Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to Christmas. I know if you are like me, you are struggling! I work for the Police Dept and so many thoughtful citizens keep bringing by Christmas goodies. My willpower has taken a nose dive. Looking forward to being out of the sight of them LOL.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thursday emoticon

Good morning! Is it time to switch to the hot tub yet? Sorry I've been MIA again. School keeps me hopping. We are lucky - our last day was last Friday, so I got a whole week to get ready for Christmas! I've been working on Christmas stockings. One was for my new granddaughter, who was born Dec. 7th. Her name is Leia Marie. She's absolutely beautiful, and I wish I didn't live so far away (she is in Texas).

My DIL and I have been baking Christmas cookies. I've been making a couple of batches of dough every morning and then taking them next door to bake with her and my granddaughter Josie. It's been so much fun. We are making plans to give most of them away. In the meantime, all the cookies are next door, so I don't have temptation sitting at my house.

I'm going for my second synthetic fluid injection in my right knee today. I really don't expect it to help, but it's one of the hoops the insurance requires. It would be nice if it did work though. I"m really not ready to get my right knee replaced yet. I was hoping to get a couple more years out of it.

Welcome to our new members. I was 54 when I had my left knee replaced. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. The pain was severely affecting my quality of life, and it's great to be pain free - at least on the left side lol.

Hi Virginia,
Welcome to our team! Don't worry about your age and having knee replacement. I'm 58 and have had both of mine replaced already. I inherited the arthritis from my mother, she's had both of hers replaced too. She's 77 I think and can run circles around me. I had my first knee replacement done when I was 51, in fact it will be 7 years tomorrow! I'm so glad I've had both of mine done, my quality of life is so much better.
Every hospital and Dr. are different but the hospital I had mine done at has a whole floor devoted to just patients that have had knee or hip surgery. You have surgery either on Monday or Tuesday and you generally stay 3 to 4 days in the hospital. It was a wonderful experience and I think I did so well because of it. You do group physical therapy two times a day. You see an occupational therapist and you walk the halls as much as possible. They also encourage you to have a cheerleader/support person. The first time I had it done I was divorced so my wonderful son and future daughter-in-law would come up to the hospital every morning and spend the day with me. 4 years ago when I had it done I was remarried and my husband stayed with me all day and spent the night. They go to group therapy with you too. Group therapy is kind of fun, you form bonds with other people and you cheer each other on. There was a girl in my last therapy who was probably in her 30s and she was on her 2nd or 3rd knee replacement. She used to play tennis and had ruined her knee. She was so funny and was worse at doing the exercises and moaned and groaned more than the rest of the older folks did. So don't stress about your age. You will be so glad when it's over and you can walk without pain again. It's a process but so worth it.
Be sure and read the helpful hints on the team page. Please be sure and share any concerns or ask any questions like Donna said most of us on here have been through it and can probably answer your questions.

I didn't volunteer to go to the school so I got out of it. Simple as that. My assistant went yesterday and they are already in the new school just mostly putting books in order that are already on the shelves. He sent pictures and it looks really nice. He said the librarian had several volunteers working so I don't feel so guilty. It helps that she's very organized. Two other people are going from our office today and I think they will pretty much have it finished by the end of the day. I also got a box of books that need to be cataloged so I have plenty to do plus someone needs to be here to answer the phones and door is my rationale. Not sure if my assistant is going back out today or not. Tomorrow is our last day before Christmas Break, we can't wait! We are going to order pizza for lunch, I think we are going to do some cleaning too, that way we can wear blue jeans and get away with it.
Need to run and get to it I guess!

I can imagine how you feel having the surgery when you are so young but in order to be out of pain you have to do it. The amount of pressure off your knee with every ten pounds lost is so worth the effort. There is lots of information on our site that explains all this to you. I hope you have had a chance to read it. Our leaders did an awesome job gsthering this information for our team.
Welcome......once again. Everyone here has been through what your are going through now so we understand!!!

I am a 45 year old woman with two sons, 24 and 16, and 2 fur babies. I have been "chunky" my entire life, with my highest weight being 334.

Unfortunately I inherited my mama's side of the family's arthritis. At 39 I had a spinal fusion and am getting ready to have a knee replacement. I am really stressed out over the whole thing, not really because of the surgery itself, but mentally it is draining me. I shouldn't be having a knee replacement at 45!!! I am trying to stay positive and go with the flow and cannot WAIT to get pain relief that I feel the surgery will bring.

I have been off an on SparkPeople since 2008. This time I MUST lose 10 pounds before surgery in another month or so AND that was after my first week on SparkPeople lol. Since November 28th, I have lost 10 pounds total, with 5 of that going towards my surgery goal of 10 pounds. I know I have plenty of time to lose the other 5 my dr is requiring me to lose but my goodness the holidays make it hard!

Looking forward to take this journey with others who know what I am feeling!

Donna I was surprised the roads weren't icy either. The parking lot was very icy at the hotel, we stopped at an IHOP to get something to eat and the parking lot wasn't too bad. They had put salt on the sidewalk thank goodness.

Not much new here. The director came in yesterday (she's supposed to be on vacation) and caught up on some work and cleaned her desk off. I poked my head in her office this morning and I could actually see the top of the desk, it's usually piled high with folders and notes. I'm not sure how she finds anything but she does. She's the best boss in the world. I dread when she retires which I'm sure is going to be soon.

A friend of mine sent me a Christmas present, I couldn't believe the size of the box, it was huge! I had her send it to me at work or it would sit on my doorstep at home. In the box was a monstrous big blue stuffed elephant. She sent it to me as a joke. I really wish she had saved her money. The girls at work were just laughing when they saw it. I don't have room for it at home, if I gave it to my granddaughter (they don't have room either) the new puppy would probably destroy it so I asked my "adopted daughter" if she wanted it and she was so excited! She loves elephants and is planning on decorating the nursery with elephants. She's having a girl so I told her we would just tie a big pink ribbon around his neck. I'm calling it Ellie the Elephant. The girls told me on my way out the door yesterday to make sure and buckle him in the car and one suggested I sit him in the passenger side. I stuffed him in the back seat. DH couldn't believe how big it was. It's now residing in the rocking chair at home. I'm hoping Lesley is going to come and pick it up tonight. (oh and my friend said she realized I probably wouldn't keep it so it's okay for me to give it away)

Counting down the days until Thursday, now they are wanting us to go out and work at a school either today or tomorrow. I'm trying to get out of it. I'm just getting too old for packing and unpacking boxes. LOL! It's only for 3 hours, not sure what that's about or what they think they will accomplish.

Shirley with all that ice on your car you were lucky that the roads were not icy too. Glad to hear you has a good weekend.
Off to the gym in a few minutes, then a trip to the store and home to make butter and mincemeat tarts. DH doesn't think it is ?Christmas unless he has those treats around.
Have a good day all!

Charlotte, I would love to get on the scale (especially now) and have a dead battery! I would be relieved. I've been avoiding the scale at all costs lately. I know I've gained. But interestingly enough I have a pair of jeans that were tight the last time I wore them and this weekend they were pretty comfortable.

Got back from Tennessee about 4 yesterday. Long enough to unpack and sit for a minute before running out the door to church. I really didn't want to go, my idea was to put on my nice warm, soft jammies and veg out in front of the TV and watch a sappy chick flick! But I knew dh wanted to go and I needed it too so we went. I'm so glad we went, it was on of those sermons that you don't want to forget. The singing was great too.

On Sat. when we got to Tennessee, the temp was in the high 60s and a cold front was coming. There was a tornado watch most of the afternoon and evening. At 2 am a thunderstorm woke me up. They were predicting snow but I didn't think much of it. When we left the temp was 27. When we got to the car it was just one solid sheet of ice. I mean it was bad, all the doors were totally froze shut. The trunk wouldn't budge. We finally got three doors open, tossed everything in the back seat. I was then thinking where's the ice scraper, I figured it was probably in the trunk, but thankfully it was in the back seat. We had to go quite a ways before we could stop and get the trunk open and closed all the way. So I think it was more freezing rain then snow. Thankfully the roads weren't too bad. It rained most of the way up and back. Hoping next Sunday it's not like this when we go back up there for the baptism. The baby has grown so much since we saw him two months ago. He's just too cute. My dh is one proud grampie! We had a good visit, Found out our son-in-law's office is closing the end of May. There's a rumor that he's up for a promotion but the bad part is he will have to relocate to Charlotte, NC away from all family, friends and support. It's about the same distance of a drive for us thankfully. If he's offered the job I'm pretty sure he will take it. He has a wonderful boss and he's being transferred there and he wants Ted to go too.

4 days of work and then I'm on vacation until Jan. 3rd. Only had to take one vacation day. Not sure why they are making us come back on Jan. 2nd but just about everyone is taking the day as a vacation so I am too, plus my dh is off. The district where my asst.'s fiance works only has two days off work this week and then she's done until Jan. 6th. Here the teacher's come back on the 4th and students come back on the 5th. Their last day of school in our district is this Wed.

It is suppose to be 77 here today but then cool off for awhile. I am not complaining as it is much colder in Vancouver and they have snow too.
I still have shopping to do but just a little so will take care of that soon.
We are having friends in for Happy Hour this evening so I have a few things to do to get organized for that. It will be a good day.

A "helpful" radio host just announced ten days till Christmas emoticon Yipes! When did that happen? No decorating of any kind done at our house so far & the cards/gifts to my NS family are still sitting on the dining room table. Guess I'd better "get a wiggle on" as my grandmother used to say. We made plans yesterday to have Xmas dinner with dh's 94 year old uncle in Winnipeg - I bring the turkey & trimmings & plum pudding; he does the vegetables - then we play some board games and Skype with his children and families scattered all over North America. Always fun. Looks like Christmas outdoors - cold and lots of snow - hopefully no more storms before Christmas with so many travelling.

More eating today - a retirement luncheon for dh's cousin and tonight the TOPS Xmas party. We're all supposed to bring low cal snacks - I'm making cucumber canapes.... a tablespoon of light cream cheese with spices on a cucumber slices. Finally got up my courage to step on the scales this morning and ... the battery is dead. Don't know whether to panic or be relieved.
Have fun at your Christmas lunch today, Shirley.

I've been wondering about Lynn too! I hope she's okay. Missing our leader!

It was in the 60s yesterday here, today the high is going to be 42! By Saturday back up into the 60s again. This is crazy weather. It's supposed to get cold again by Monday. Both of my knees were screaming this morning. Been having a lot of breathing problems too and sinus issues.

Today is our Christmas luncheon for work. Laurie, we are going to Mary Mac's Tearoom. I've been once but it was a long time ago. I'm looking forward to it. Hoping when we get back to the office that she will let us go home. Who wants to come back and work after a 3 hour lunch?
I'm taking tomorrow off, trying to get some things done. We leave for Tennessee on Sat. morning to go see my dh's children and new grandbaby. I need to get the apartment cleaned, go to Walmart, finish wrapping gifts, do laundry and get myself together. Next week is another 4 day work week. We have 6 days off starting on the 23rd. We have to come back on Jan. 2nd. Students won't be back until the 5th. I found out most of the office is taking the 2nd off so I decided to too. This is the first time we have had 6 days off in a row. We usually have to work a few days during the break. So this will sure be different and it's nice because I usually have to take vacation days if I want a real vacation. I usually do that since no one else is going to be here.

It's early for us to get snow here, we don't usually get any though. I see up in Ohio and other parts of the country where they have snow and it just reinforces why I moved south! Don't miss the bitter cold and snow. Must be an adjustment Laurie. I hope your family makes it okay and you have a wonderful Christmas with them.

Laurie, I wish you could retire too. It's sad that they laid you off soon after you took the position, it's only been like a year right? I hope something turns up soon.

Need to run. Been a boring week here, I finally got caught up with stuff. Hopefully things will pick up again come January. Have a great weekend everyone.

Laurie, even though we know about cold weather it is still very hard to get use to. I know cold weather and I really hope I don't have to do it again. But one never knows does one?

I hope Lynn isn't having a horrible time. I've been thinking of her lately.

It's SO COLD here! It's supposed to warm up a bit on Friday, but then we are expecting more snow. After that it's supposed to be even colder. I really do hate winter, but not having to go out to a job every day makes it a bit more palatable. Though I really do need to get a job. But I sure wish I could retire emoticon

Mom is busy wrapping gifts that we need to get into the mail tomorrow. This weekend my sister and BIL are coming down, and we'll have Christmas with them and my niece and her husband. Sure hope the snow doesn't mess things up. Sunday's Packers/Bears game looks like it's going to be a frigid one. Glad I'll be watching from the warmth of our living room!

It is so quiet here. I think Lynn must be quite ill as we have not heard from her in awhile. Sending he's,ing vibes her way and big hugs too!
I am going for my mani/pedi later today so in the meantime I am cleaning house. We are having company tomorrow so I have a few things to do.
One of these days I will do my Christmas shopping......I don't have much to do so I am not panicking.

I am taking some stuff to the goodwill and doing a few errands.
It is love,y here today so,that is very enjoyable......mid 70's

Our new smaller tree is covered in ornaments too. Lots of memories associated with most of them so I'm like you Laurie can't imagine getting rid of any of them. This tree is so much smaller than the last one we had I couldn't get all of the ornaments on it. I figured this was a good time to get rid of all of those ornaments I don't like.

What a weekend, dinner disagreed with my stomach on Thursday so ended up calling in sick on Friday. Got my Christmas cards addressed and done! Sat. I went Christmas shopping with my "adopted daughter" we had a good time. She's so tiny to be 7 months pregnant. I think Scarlett is going to be a small baby. She thinks she's huge. We found the cutest little outfit for the baby and matching receiving blankets too. I bought them for her. It was fun to go shopping with her. Then we found out the battery in my car had died so I had to buy a new battery. Not the best time of the year for that to happen. I had just bought a new one less than 3 years ago, hoping this one lasts longer. Church yesterday, ran the cards to the post office and just relaxed. I need to get one more present and then I'm done. I need to wrap presents tonight. Tired of hiding them from dh.

Saturday was my 4 year anniversary of getting my last knee replacement done. It was a day of memories. I don't remember a lot about the first 24 hours but dh does. I guess it wasn't good. We are both so glad I did it then and how much better my quality of life is since I've had both replaced.

Need to go, I have some stuff I need to get caught up on since I wasn't here Friday.

Yup, that is our tree. We have so many ornaments that are connected with memories that we can't think of getting rid of them. As a result our tree is loaded! I think about half are handmade. When we lived in Texas and traveled for Thanksgiving and Christmas there were some years were didn't bother to put up the tree but I really missed it those years.

Laurie, I am assuming that is your tree. It really is lovely. I will take a picture of mine too. My friend was giving it to the Goodwill but told me I could have it if I wanted so we brought it home and it looks great. We don't have many decorations as we game them all away when we left in the spring but it's amazing what the $$ store has.
It ha sheen cool here but will be in the mid 70's this coming week. I can handle that. I had an email from home and they are getting lots of snow which is very unusual this early in the year. I am not sorry to be missing it,

Gee Charlotte, I have a hard time when I can't get to the www. Feels like part of my brain is missing! Though somehow I don't have a problem when on a ship in the Caribbean emoticon Glad to hear you are reconnected.

We are expecting a winter storm tonight and tomorrow. Saying goodbye to the grass until Spring emoticon It's going to be buried for months.

Speaking of trees, I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday where all Christmas stuff is 50% off. We needed a little tree for the office. So I bought a cute little tree, a cute little star topper, a very small strand of lights and some little ornaments. All of that costed me $12.00! So I'm so excited to get the tree to work and set up. It's the quirkiest little tree you've ever seen, it leans to one side no matter what we do. The top of it has a weird hook to it and one side of it is kind of flat. We put the lights and ornaments on and hoped for the best. It's okay but I still chuckle every time I look at it. It's just a funny quirky tree!
Also while I was at Hobby Lobby I saw a box and it contains a Charlie Brown Tree, yep you guessed it a small bare tree with a single ornament and I think a Linus scarf wrapped around the bottom. I had to laugh and someone is probably making a fortune off this. It was priced at $25.00 before the 50% off.

The sun is shining today! After rain for like 3 days or more, but we're not complaining. I'm happy to see the sun though. Now the temps are really going to fall.

My ds that lives in Florida Facetimed me last nigh, he has never ever done that, totally took me off guard, I saw his face and started crying. He was just calling to check on me. I miss that kid so much! He's such a sweet guy and everyone loves him. His wife is so lucky if I say so myself. My poor dil that is studying to be a vet was in surgery yesterday operating on a horse, she kept sneezing and they finally told her she had to go scrub out. She's allergic to horses, I know she must have been devastated. My ds told me she was going to load up on Zyrtec today so I hope things went better for her. She wants to be a a big animal vet so being allergic to them is not good.

Charlotte so glad you got your phone and internet service back, it's great they came out in a snowstorm. It's so irritating when that happens, I wonder how I ever managed before internet and cell phones.

Almost time to go home. Tomorrow will be busy, big meeting in the afternoon and we will have to stuff folders tomorrow, they are still making changes, this is just so normal for us! We will be stuffing at the last minute.

Hello everyone. Ah, the joys of country living! Thanks to highway construction breaking a cable, our phone service was out for nearly 2 weeks (we have only a land line, no cell phone or service)plus during that time our internet connection went down too - finally on Sunday the phone was fixed so we were finally able to call our internet provider and today the repair guy came (in a big snowstorm) to replace a cable on our satellite dish so we're back communicating with the world again. Whuff! On the bright side, I got a lot of work done and it was really quiet around here. Now catching up on all the messages.
Glad you arrived safely Donna. Good for you getting your tree up - we've got a ways to go yet.

I got my tree up yesterday but it still needs more work. I think I will buy some ribbon today as that always helps to fill in some spots. This is a donated tree from a friends with a few decorations. You could say it is a Charlie Brown tree........ emoticon

Thanks Donna. I am grateful for what I do have and I know I'm blessed it's just really hard at the holidays for me and I'm tired of making plans and then everyone changes their minds and I'm just left sitting. It's okay. I'm really going to make an effort to have a better attitude. It is a hard lesson. I still can't accept that they are grown and gone and have families of their own. I had a really hard time when they moved out for good. It would be easier if I had family here too.

Another rainy day here, so thankful for the rain we sure needed it!

Shirley, I think you just have to be grateful first that you and your DH will have Christmas together and the rest will somehow work out. When our kids get married they have another family to make plans with. Also, they are starting to make their own traditions. This was a very hard lesson for me too.

Glad that snow is up there with you Laurie and not down here. On the other hand we got some good rain this weekend. It rained most of yesterday, a little bit on Saturday and I think it's supposed to rain today. It's supposed to be 60 today but by Friday the high will be in the 30s. That's cold. We are so happy for the rain, I haven't heard a single person complain.

Weekend was just depressing. All of my plans for the weekend and Christmas Day just flew out the window. So next year I'm just going to tell my kids to make plans and let me know where I fit in. This has happened two years in a row now. I go through a terrible depression every year at this time anyway, every year just seems to get a bit worse. I don't know why, I just do. Come January the depression goes away and I'm fine again. My mom has the same thing so maybe it's hereditary. I know part of my reason for the depression is because I can't spend the holidays with my family. It's just the way it is.

Only 3 weeks until Christmas and 6 days off of work. I think dh is working from home for the most part. I'm spending one day with my best friend. We don't get to see each other very much so I'm looking forward to that.

Not sure what I need to do at work today, pretty much caught up but need to look busy I guess. LOL

My goodness but it is a lovely day today. I love the sunshine and I was even too warm when I was out this morning.
Slowly but surely we are getting settled. It will most likely take me another week. In the meantime I am putting up the Christmas tree.

Glad you made it safely to your winter home Donna. I'm sure it's taking time to unpack, get groceries and get situated again. Hope you are doing okay with the shingles.

Laurie, don't give up! I can relate from the time I was let go a few years back. It's so easy to let this drag you down. Staying busy is good. When I was let go it was during the recession, unemployment lines were very long and lots of people were laid off. I had a few friends in the same boat as me and we would meet once a week in the mornings and have coffee and just chat. It helped a lot. I look back now and see things that I didn't see then. One of my best friends mom was very ill and I was able to support her, go to the hospital with her and visit her mom before she died. Another friend of mine had to have knee replacement surgery and her dh had Alzheimer's. I would go over and clean her house and help her with her dh and she paid me. I also did volunteer work at my church. It was a depressing time but I'm glad I was able to assist my friends in their time of needs. I feel like God had planned it like that. My unemployment was getting ready to end in a few weeks and I was rehired for my old job. I've learned to live more frugal too and thankful for what I have. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

We learned yesterday that our utilities are going up $20.00 starting in January. That's after the raise in our rent by $60.00 a few months back. DH told me we may need to start looking for someplace else to live. :( . It became apparent last year when we were looking that we can't live close to Atlanta, the rent is outrageous and some of the places looked worse than where we were already, which was pretty bad. So we will have to move even further out. He said he would work from home most days of the week, but I don't see that happening. He feels like he has to be in the office. His commute is already at 2 hours each way. I'm so depressed over this. That move last year nearly killed us and moving isn't cheap. I don't want to move again until we retire but it's becoming more apparent we will have to. Our rent is now over our budget and I'm afraid they are going to want a lot more this next year. They wanted to raise it $116.00 but I managed to get them down to $60.00. And now we have new management so who knows. Grrr!

I bought tickets for us to go to Stone Mtn. Park for the Christmas activities and invited my ds and dil to go along with the grandbaby and us. I never get to do anything with her so I thought this would be fun.

Off to the races! TGIF!

Most of the laundry is done and put away until warmer weather (think cruise in February). Mom did all that while I applied for jobs that no one wants me for. I picked up a UTI while we were gone. And the hits just keep on acomin'!

Yesterday afternoon I got out Christmas decorations and we got the tree up and mostly decorated. Will finish that today and work on the rest of the decorations. Last year we were decorating and still not unpacked from the move!

No snow yet, but it's a rainy, dreary day and only 34 degrees. I think this will be a hermit day. Tomorrow I need to go into Milwaukee to meet with my coach to see how I can breath life into this stupid job search. Then I'll take Mom Christmas shopping while we are in the big city.

Oo-oo, maybe I'll do some baking today. Perfect day for it.

Charlotte I can sure relate to everything landing in one place. At home our kitchen table is the catch-all for most everything. I cleaned it off this past weekend and we have actually kept it cleaned off the entire week! My project today is to get some of these projects off my desk. I'm hoping to have another big order ready to place. I'm so tired of working on orders. I guess that is one part of the job that I hate.
Today is also report day. Oh joy! It's gotten better because the one report that I've always hated to do I turned over to my new asst. and now he does it. The other report that I have to do isn't too bad.
You can keep your snow Charlotte! I wouldn't mind having one or two snow days if they wouldn't make me come to work but that's about all I want. I doubt if I would be able to leave my apt. complex if there was snow or ice because the exit is up a steep hill and it sits in the shade so I might be saved! We are thankful for the rain, we had several tornadoes in the surrounding areas yesterday. They made students sit in the halls and wouldn't dismiss school until it was declared all clear, of course it happened at the same time as dismissal. We kept a watch on the sky. Most of the people here haven't really been through a tornado, I've been through too many in my life.

My dh is getting sick, he says he feels fine but has a cough and raspy voice. He never gets sick, I'm just hoping it's sinuses or maybe a small cold. I sure don't want it. But the weather has been crazy here lately. In the 70s yesterday, today it's supposed to get up to a high of 55.

Donna, hope you made it safely to California and are doing okay.

Laurie hope all is well with you. Are you still trying to unpack and do laundry? Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for the job situation.

Off I go!

Glad to hear all the travellers are home or almost home safely, despite the weather, and that the dry spell is over in Georgia, Shirley. More snow fell here last night but we`ve been spared the freezing cold typical of a Manitoba winter. My outdoor cats are happy, & my daily walks are a lot more comfortable.
Donna - those long road trips seem longer as we get older for sure & a shingles relapse doesn`t help. You`ll be glad for a good rest when you arrive.
Laurie - you must be so relieved that the unemployment payments have started. good luck with the job hunt.
My aim today is to clear all the projects off the dining room table. Everything seems to land there.

Donna so sorry to hear you had a flair up with the shingles again. I know you will be so happy to have this drive over with. Praying for safe travels today. How many hours does it take you to get to California?

We had rain yesterday morning then it stopped for awhile and then it looked like this morning that we had a lot during the night or it had just ended. Everything was very wet. Hoping we get some more today. So hoping Tennessee is getting this rain too. It just makes me sick to see the wildfires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, it's so beautiful up there. I've been up there several times. We were just there a few years ago for our anniversary, we went to Dollywood too. I think it's been spared. I have a friend who has family up there. I hope they are okay. It's just devastating. So glad they caught the guy who set the fire. Why do people do stupid stuff like this?

Laurie, so glad you got your unemployment figured out. It isn't the same as a paycheck but it's better than nothing. Keeping you in my prayers. Wow, your flight sounds very frightening, I have flown when there was turbulence but not as bad as you described. Glad you made it home safely.

Have a great day!

We had a very bumpy ride last night--must have been flying through the front that brought you rain, Shirley. For anyone on their first plane trip it would have been scary! We arrived to rain and mild temps. Milwaukee's lane markers are very hard to see in the dark and rain so it was kind of a white knuckle drive until we got north of the city.

A bit of good news... I got a call from the unemployment commission yesterday and that mess is all straightened up. They paid me this morning. I'd rather have a job but this will pay the bills for a while.

Donna, so sorry you are still bothered with shingles. Travel isn't fun when you aren't feeling well!

The shingles woke me up way to early. I don't think this will be a good day for me. I guess sitting all day in the car is part of the problem...

emoticon emoticon Yep it's finally raining in Georgia! We are so happy. Hopefully this will help with the wildfires. We love going up to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and a lot of people are having to evacuate because of wildfires. It's just sad. There's even a report that Dollywood may be affected. I'm hoping they get some of this rain too. So far it has just been a steady rain. Started during the night. We only had thunder once around 2 am. It's supposed to be 74 today and 58 by Thursday. I think I saw this morning where we haven't had any rain in 42 days! Thankfully by the time I left for work it was only misting but it's raining hard again now.

I'm sorry you had so much rain and bad traffic Donna, just take it slow. Hoping today is better for you. How are the shingles? I hope you're not in too much pain.

Laurie, did you and your mom make it home okay last night?

Well my assistant has a migraine and is going to try and come in later, I hope so. :(
So I guess I better get a move on.

Love your picture Laurie! Looks like you had a good time! Safe travels home, at least hopefully you will miss the airport mess by leaving tonight, plus the rain we are supposed to get tomorrow and Wednesday. The temp is supposed to be high 60s today and 74 the next two days then drop to 58 on Thursday. I'm just hoping we don't get any bad storms. A good soaking rain would be good and hopefully help put out some of the wildfires we are having.

Hope you have safe travels today too Donna. How are you doing with the shingles? I hope you are doing okay.

Back to work today. I got up kicking and screaming this morning. I was sleeping so good and just didn't want to get up and face the day. LOL! Of course the whole time I was off I was up around 6 each morning but when I have to go to work it's a whole different story. Go figure!

We did get the tree decorated, I wasn't going to do the rest of the decorating until today but dh got into it and so I just got up and we did it together. I'm just not use to having someone that wants to help decorate the tree and house. When I was married before I was lucky if I could get my ex to get the tree upstairs. Then he sat and watched me do it all. It's kind of nice to have help. The tree is much smaller but it fits in the corner I wanted to put it in. The other one was just way too big for our little living room. It works better but sure looks puny. We ran out of room for all of my ornaments. It's full! I think I will be getting rid of some ornaments this year and only keep the some of the special ones. I collect musical Christmas snow globes. DH got me a new one this year. I put them up on the mantel. It's full too! He started bringing all of the Christmas boxes out and I didn't realize I had so many again. When we moved I tried to get all of the decorations down to 2-3 totes now I am up to 5 plus the tree box! Need to quit buying!

Off to work!

Safe travels Donna!

Wow! Computer problems, well modem problems, went and exchanged ours yesterday and it still wouldn't work. DH was on the phone forever, I think they got it worked out. I'm glad it was him and not me because I just don't have the patience nor understand what they are talking about.

Got the Christmas tree up, but not decorated. We got a new smaller tree this year, much smaller we found out. All I can say is I hope it looks better with ornaments on it. Hopefully get around to that this afternoon.

Back to work tomorrow. The 5 days went way too fast and didn't accomplish a single thing that I wanted to do except get the house clean. Oh well!

I hope everyone who is traveling today makes it home safe. I hate to think about what traffic is going to be like.

Need to run and get ready for church!

Wow, Donna, shingles? I didn't know you could get the shingles after having the shot. That's scary. I'm hoping it's a very light case too. I got the shot last year. When are you leaving for California? Good to hear that your dh's surgery went well.

Laurie, I'm so sorry you didn't get that job. I can so relate to what you are going through. Hang in there. You're in my prayers.
The fires are bad, it's been well over 30 days since we have had any rain at all. They are forecasting rain for next week, we will see. It's a small chance unfortunately. In the meantime the temps are in the 60s and 70s.

Thanksgiving was very nice. The food was excellent, everyone behaved themselves. No one brought up one word about politics which totally surprised me. I hadn't seen the grandbaby in 5 weeks and was so afraid she would forget who we were but when we walked in she squealed and gave us both big hugs. She doesn't stand still for a second. It was hard to get a good picture of her. She was dancing and she even had me dancing. LOL! The things you do with your grandchildren. Anyway, we had fun and it was good.

Getting ready to walk out the door when dh gets ready to run to grocery stores and pick up a new modem, ours is so messed up. Every few hours we have to unplug it and plug it back in so that it resets. So tired of this.

Hoping to get the tree up today. Yesterday we didn't do much, it was very relaxing, we went to the movies and it was pretty good.

Just found out yesterday that I have shingles. Just what I need but it was caught right away so I am able to take the meds. I did have the vaccine so it most likely will be a mild case. I still don't feel very well.

Just time for a quick note. We're in Florida spending the holiday with my brother's family. Saw all the smoke in Atlanta when we changed planes today.

Found out yesterday that I didn't get the job I interviewed for last week. I'm pretty devastated and wondering what in the world the future holds. Have a problem with unemployment insurance with the possibility of no income for up to 4 weeks. Haven't been getting much sleep lately and feeling pretty grim.

The surgery went well so today is a rest day. I have lots to do and also some baking. I am going to make some muffins for the trip.
