Hi Everyone
Looking forward to the Pool/Spa chats! Thanks for the goodie reminder that we are now halfway through our year. I've been slacking off a bit on my walking ---- it's too hot; I hate to sweat; there is a new book waiting to be read; I have too much housework to do-----well it is time to stop making excuses and get back on track. I've been really proud of walking every day and I missed 4 days last week! Yes, we were traveling but that is no excuse either. Every motel had a treadmill and there were other opportunities to walk too.

I guess I just took a break but I want it to be a short break so I'd better get moving!

I talked to a lady last week who is sooooooo afraid of knee surgery. She is in terrible pain and she says that every time she sees her doctor he asks if she is ready for surgery. It is limiting her life terribly but she just can't bring herself to do it. I hope something I said will help. She isn't old enough to just sit in a chair and be dependent. She was at the Class of '64 reunion so she's probably about 67, too young to quit on herself.

I remember being very fearful also; but I was more fearful of sitting in front of the TV for the rest of my life while others went on with their active lives.

Hope everyone is having a good summer. I know that many of you have recently had surgery and may still be recovering or working with physical therapists. Remember, this too will pass. The discomfort will become less; the movement will become easier; you will be able to be much more active soon. Everyone is different; emoticon .

Hey everyone,

Hmmm chocolate eclairs or onion rings, hard choice Becca! I don't like the Bavarian crème they sometimes put in doughnuts, so I guess it depended on the filling. But I love onion rings too!

I'm thinking about dipping some strawberries in chocolate again tonight, satisfies my sweet tooth without wrecking my diet or my sugar levels! Especially since I only dip about 6 and split with dh, then I can't overeat them! He has to hide the rest of the chocolate though so that I'm not sampling it all week! LOL!

I went to the apt. office the other day and complained to the asst. manager about the loud music upstairs, he said they would send a letter to them telling them there has been complaints about loud music. Wow! not a peep out of this guy for a couple of days now. Peace and quiet, how blessed! Especially since last Sunday when he had it turned on before 7 am.

Last night we went to the movies and sat for over 2 hours, I stood up and tried to walk and my knee was hurting again, after a few minutes of walking it was better. My hip was hurting most of the movie too but I think that's from work these past few weeks, not sure if the knee pain is from work or from exercise, heck maybe my hip pain is from exercise, but have never had that happen before. I took a Naproxen last night before I went to bed and when I got up this morning my knee wasn't hurting. I hope this is the end of it. I really don't want to have to go to the Dr. I have too many other things going on right now without having to deal with that too.

Need to go and figure out what to make for breakfast! Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Ahh, a quick jump into the hot tub before getting ready for church. I don't really know where I keep disappearing to. I've been out of school for a week and a half, so you'd think I'd have more time to drop in. I've been doing a lot of babysitting. My daughter in law is doing some summer tutoring and teaching math seminars, so I get to go play with the baby. I really enjoy it, although twice last week I ended up missing my water aerobics class. I can go to the pool on other days and times, but I miss my friends when I don't go to class.
I've had some trouble with my new knee too. Both knees (the orignal right and the new left) have been hurting so bad at night that I can't sleep. I need to go get a cortisone shot in the right one. I've been trying to do some walking in the mornings before it gets too hot, and I think I've overdone it in the pool. Bah.
Lynn, that's a bummer about the allergies. I know we try to eat healthy, fresh foods, but so much of it has preservatives in it.
Any other soccer fans out there? I've been watching way too many games. I'm looking forward to the game this evening. Go USA!

Today is National Chocolate Eclair Day AND National Onion Ring Day. This time of day, I wouldn't choose either, but some days are savory, some are sweet, so we'll see what happens later on.

Hi all, weel I have to admit Shirley I am moving slow this morning too. I really enjoyed reading the daily paper today with my two cups of coffee. What a great not to have to rush. I am going out to do a few errands but decided to wait and have lunch before I leave. Might as well eat the food here.....it's cheaper!!!
Shirley I remember when I was working I did not like to spend Saturdays grocery shopping or housecleaning so I tried to do them during the week. That takes a lot of energy though. Hope you end up having a good day.
Sun is shining and it is nice and warm out. Enjoy your day everyone!!!

Hi everyone, what a busy group! My goodness it's hard to keep up!

Lynn, I'm so so sorry you have all these new allergies, not fun. I hope you can figure out what to avoid. I will be saying a prayer for you. In the diabetes class we didn't go into how much sugar is in an item, it's not really about the sugar it's about the carbs. So we were told to just focus on the carbs and the serving size and that's all and only eat sweets on special occasions or when you have a big craving for something. I didn't think I did too good last night, a good friend and her dh were celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary last night and invited my dh and me over for dinner. Well their first meal together was hot dogs so every year on their anniversary they have hot dogs no matter what! Isn't that sweet? So last night we had hot dogs, I had a hot dog with a bun and slaw and a handful of chips, some veggies and some fruit and a small piece of cake that was simply out of this world, their neighbor made it and she's a pastry chef, oh my word it was good and decorated so pretty! Anyway I was afraid my sugar was going to be sky high after that but it was fine just slightly over the range my Dr. wants me in but I was well under what the American Diabetes Assoc. recommends. So I'm learning! I have been trying to count carbs the last few days and not worry about Weight Watchers so much and I still lost 1.5 pounds this week! Yippee! My clothes are getting too big but what a good thing that is. I will look into Weight Watchers further and see if they have a diabetes plan, you would think they would since so many people have diabetes now.

Donna, thanks for the laugh. I do hope you are not too sore from your fall. I'm still chuckling though! Sounds like something that would happen to me!

I have been on a cleaning binge the last few weeks and when I get started I don't want to stop. I was teasing dh last night that if he doesn't watch it he may be going out in the trash with the rest of the junk I'm getting rid of! Just kidding I love him to death and wouldn't throw him away, he's so good to me! I started with my scrapbooking area and have been moving on around the room, I have a big computer desk and I had some notebooks and stuff sitting on top, I started going through them last night and found all the stuff my mom gave me on our family tree that I had been wondering what happened to and I found all of my stencils that I have been looking everywhere for that I use when scrapbooking! I was so excited. I have found so many things while cleaning all of this. I have moved 4 times since I divorced my ex 7 years ago today in fact and can't believe I have been moving some of this stuff! Goodwill, we seem to make weekly trips to them. I have often thought if we didn't live in an apt. complex I wonder how much money we could make on a yard sale, but at least it's going to a good cause!

I'm glad you got your computer problems solved Becca. Now mine is acting up, I'm so frustrated! While my ds is here for the wedding in a few weeks he may have to work on it. Heck he wouldn't know how to feel if I didn't have a "Mattie Do-list" while he's here. LOL! The reason it's called Mattie is because his name is Matthew and his dear wife calls him Mattie all the time. If I had ever called him Mattie when he was growing up I probably would have gotten a dirty look! I so can't wait to see him and his wife and my mom and sister again! The visit will be short but we have plans to do some things while they are here. And my dh had just enough vacation days left so that he can be off while they are here too.

I don't know what's wrong with my newest knee. The last two days after I have gone to bed and gotten up it just hurts so bad that I can hardly walk. It's fine after awhile and it doesn't bother me the rest of the day. I don't know if I twisted it wrong while exercising Wed. afternoon or if it was from work on Thursday afternoon or if I just slept on my stomach and laid on it too long. Yesterday morning I put the heating pad on it for a little bit and that seemed to help some. Just hoping it goes away soon, I'm trying to baby it this weekend and not overdue it. I don't want to have to go to the Dr. again but if it doesn't stop doing this I guess I will have to.

Off to get started on this busy day, I have come to hate Saturdays and that's terrible. It seems to take us the entire day to go get produce, go to the grocery store and run any other errands we have, plus dh is slow moving on Sat. mornings so it takes him a while to get ready to leave. I'm ready long before he's even up and moving.

Have a good weekend everyone!

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SUMMER!! emoticon emoticon

Hope to get lots of walking in today, even tho' my whole body aches because of the playground yesterday. Since it's the summer solstice, I know the days will start getting shorter and I don't want to regret spending more time outdoors.

Lynn: my boys' fave when they were younger was jungle gym tag: just like regular tag but on the jungle gym. It's a LOT of running around! emoticon

Ok - I made it back!

Shirley - your class did sound very informative. Those ladies who aren't eating are doing themselves MORE harm than good. You have to eat to keep the blood sugar up and from fluctuating so much. (but of course not TOO high) I may have to ask you some questions about ingredients in some food items...from the reading I've done this afternoon, I'm finding companies are not forthcoming with all their ingredients -- particularly the additives -- which is MY problem. Then the next problem -- and I do know sugar is one of those -- is that it goes by several different names - glucose, sucralose, glycol, etc....and it's that glycol one that gets ME. I mean did you know it IS an ingredient in anti-freeze??? but yet it makes foods sweet and in different chains the FDA has deemed it safe at the occurring levels -- well yeah - except when you're allergic to it then NO amount is safe!

Jane -- I certainly identify with the packrat thoughts - my mother was kind of like that and for the most part that has made me want to be the exact opposite. So while I do tend to get times when things get cluttery -- I find I don't cope well until it's cleaned up and organized. I have found that setting a timer for 15 minutes (or whatever time frame you want but I'd start small) and then do a drawer or a box or a shelf --- then when the timer goes off you can make a decision - stop or continue and reset the timer ....I find it a challenge I guess - how much can I get done in that 15 minutes -- and often times it eggs me on to want to do 'just a bit more'.....an idea for you anyway.
Also -- we had the storms last evening as well. LOTS of rain here - over 3" in about an hour or so! Glad the electricity stayed on b/c I was home alone w/ the dogs and his dog is a nutcase with storms!

I agree with you Donna and Becca -- giving away -- even to goodwill is just a good thing. I always figure if one of the employees takes it home b/f it gets out in the store -- it will bless them in someway. Always gives me a good feeling....Stuff isn't important anymore...people are!

Oh Donna - my goodness I DID smile as I read your story but I thought "OH my - how sore she'll be tomorrow!" Are you ok today? (well I guess it was yesterday or so whenever it happened!)

Seni - good to hear from you! I understand about the pool thing - in the summer we are sometimes in the outside pool and they don't 'make' the kids stay out of the pool during classes -- not sure why - b/c they don't allow it in the indoor pool. Last year a young man and I had a few words til his mother came up and I told her what he was saying and doing and she ordered him out of the pool! (but I believe she was more upset with ME than him)

Laurie - my dd this week showed me on her phone (b/c she'd taken a picture of it) of someone who had a "grandparents story' book album. She said she wanted to find one for me, her dad, and her mumsie (grandma) I told her that my scrapbook "Book of me" was along those lines but that if she found one I'd gladly fill it out. So I do think families want to keep those memories - just not all our 'stuff'!!!"

Cheryl - as I sift through all the info I have - I may be asking for some ideas of companies others use that might have products. I have a safelist -- the one I'd used for the last year with the initial diagnosis of environmental allergies was 116 pages of safe products for me....it has now shrunk - with the new diagnosis -- down to 64 pages of safe products!! The nice part is they DO give all the websites for the products listed. so that's a real plus. As I said above -- NOT for the food products however...they're going to be a problem I think
Glad you liked the names -- I thought they were kind of catchy!! :))

Yay - Becca's printer is working! Car problems, printer/computer problems I hate both of them!!! Sure, what'll we play at the playground??

Well it's getting late and I"m exhausted when I really think about it....so have a good nite all and hope to talk again soon!

Lynn that is the problem with our life today. We use so.many products with so many chemicals in them. We need to live much more cleaner. I use a product called Pink Solution that is so totally, natural and safe. I use it mainly for cleaning in the bathroom but you can wash dishes , clothes etc.. which so far I have not done. It comes in a pail and it is like a semi hard gel. You add some to a pot and add water and bring to a boil then when it is cool put in a container. You can get it here in Canada at Costco and when they demonstrate it they eat some.......to show it is not toxic. I am going to have to start using it on more things. So I guess there are products out there if we just look for, them. There is also a group on Sparks called Clean Eating I think it is. And of course there main focus is to get away from all these toxins we put in our body.
I wish you lots of luck controlling your itch. Wouldn't it be nice to get rid of it!!!!

Good afternoon -- since I couldn't shower I guess I thought I'd stay out of the hot tub too??? Don't ask me where I've been. I've read all the posts and will comment later on some -- well I'll do one now - Cheryl - I think you should name the new kitty TYPO -- another one that's going to like your keyboard and you might make lots of typos!! :))Or else QWERTY!!

Laurie - today is the day I get to shower -- and I can't wait!!! I have enough ink on my back that'll it'll take days to get off!!! Dh took the patches off on Wednesday and then had to re-mark the edges of where the tape was....so quite a roadmap on my back. Dr. saw me today and without giving you a boring recitation of all he said -- I'll try for the short version. I am now allergic to 5 more things -- mostly all preservatives in products or food. The main itching I have he feels (b/c of it's location) is from food. So now I get to become a chemist to learn what products have Methyldibromo glutaronitrite/phenoxyethanol in it!!! (or MDBGN/PE-Euxyl K400 for short!!!) LOL...I just had to share just one of the 5 things. The biggie I think is the propylene glycol -- it's in alot of foods as well as products, (car, body, cosmetics,creams/lotions,haircare, oral care, lozenges, paints, soaps and cleansers etc)
Need I go on??? So I've spent most of today reading the 100+ pages he sent home with me. He's giving me 3 months to try to get it under control...I will still continue with my meds (creams mostly) but he told me - he's done his part - the testing ; now the ball is in my court and if I"m going to get any better -- it's up to me! Pretty formidable I think....esp since so much of it is 'hidden' in products (with other names) Ok - enough of that

It feels better to be back in the hot tub -- one thing I did learn that was GOOD -- I asked about my aquzumba class and the chlorine etc...and did he think I was allergic to anything in it and he said no....so GOOD - I can at least swim ....until I learn something differently!!

I spent Wed with my youngest dd - she and her dh came up as my Mother's Day gift - to help us with anything we needed help with around here...so her dh and my dh put up new shutters on the house and helped dh with his new MP3 player. Then dd and I cleaned and organized 4 closets!! It felt wonderful to get that done! I couldn't lift or carry (b/c I was NOT supposed to sweat - no moisture on my back!) so she did the heavy stuff

And then yesterday was lunch with some girlfriends (had to do something 'fun' this week to keep my mind off my itching!) LOL

I'll be back later to comment on more of your messages...I see we have another new member. Welcome....

Shirley - mine is different but it looks like we'll both be learning something new -- you about diabetes and me about all this whatever it is - environmental allergies I guess. Right now it IS overwhelming.

Laurie, lucky you for being able to share with family. And very smart of you to start thinking about this so far ahead of time. My DG has told me she will take my china. She even showed it to her boyfriend when they were here a few weeks ago. Not sure if I should be reading something into this!!! I am glad she wants the china. I also have a silver tea service that was a wedding gift. I never use it anymore. Remember when we use to go to teas and the women would be pouring tea from these services for everyone?
I have to tell you what happened to me yesterday when I was golfing.
Picture a long narrow green, surrounded by six bunkers. The one at the front is large and quite deep. the flag happened to be very close to the front and my ball was closer to,the sand trap.. You already know what happened I can see your smile. Because of my knees I cant squat low enough so I was backing up from my ball to try and figure out my angle to the hole. Yup. I went over the edge and disappeared into the bunker in a lying position. The poor girls I was golfing came running to make sure I was ok. Needless to say I was a little embarrassed and I had to laugh because it must have looked very comical. I was fine but today I am a little sore particularly in my neck area. Sure won't do that again!!!
Ow that you have had your chuckle, I hope I made your day!!!!
Have a good one....

Donna, the young people in my life are glad to get our stuff, especially if it has family history. Unfortunately, they all live far away. We have a list of stuff to take up north with us this summer that people want. As long as we can keep taking stuff up north with us over the next few years, it will make packing marginally easier. I took a couple boxes of books over to Half Price Books a couple weeks ago and got a little money for them. Put it in the household emergency fund and spent it on the plumber this week already. Plus more.

Hey Lynn--hope you enjoy your shower today!

I'm grabbing a few minutes of "me time". I'm doing much better at that these days, even with things being as hectic as they are.

Hubs is getting ready to leave shortly for freight, so that's good. I'm logging my foods and planning to start back to the gym Monday morning. I would go over the weekend, but I have to leave no later than 7am and the gym doesn't open until 7am. Afternoons are when a lot of what I call "the screaming heathens" are there. Seems like no one teaches kids manners any more and I don't like having kids throw water in my face when I'm minding my own business. I must be getting old, lol.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I will be spending mine working markets and learning how to use my new devices. I had to upgrade my smartphone (they couldn't/wouldn't fix the charging port on my old one) and I ended up with a tablet as well. More things to try to learn without a written manual. Yay. But, if I want to accept credit cards for my business (and I do) I better get at it!!

Hugs to all!
Seni

My printer is down
~ Nick dropped a nail down inside and I didn't realize it. I tried using it and heard a horrid grinding sound. Ed was nice enough to buy a new one last night, but for some reason, it's not communicating with the computer. So...

Donna: I think it's the age we are. Young when we marry and feel we have to have things to prove how well we are doing. Then we eventually hit an age when we realize it's not how much we own that is important, but how we spend our lives, how much love we share with mankind. Suddenly, many of the things we spent years gathering doesn't seem as important.

Wow, when you don't go on here in the morning you sure have a lot of catching up to do.
First of all Maryann it is so good to hear from you. I sure hope you are doing ok......you sure have had your setbacks lately.
Becca, hope you had a good day at your luncheon and good for you doing a visitation. You are a good friend!!!!
Shirley I am pretty sure that Weight Watchers has a plan for diabetics. You might want to check on that. Glad you enjoyed your class. There really is so much to learn about carbs and diabetes. Keep up,the good work and you can probably miss going on insulin.
Jane we are all happy that you didn't get those bad storms.
Pack ears should never inherit from pack rats. It is so hard to let go of things but to keep your sanity you just have to do it. I have been doing this for the last four years and it has been hard. I think there is something wrong with how we live our lives. When you get married you have nothing then you spend most of your married life acquiring things you thin k you need. When you get to my age and need to downsize you are giving it all away. What is that all about. And you know, nowadays our young people don't want our stuff!!!! So Jane, just get rid of it. It will make you feel so much better. The Goodwill store will be your friend!!
Today was my golf day and I have to admit I am weary. It rained last night and the ground was soft so it was hard walking. As soon as I got home I jumped in the hot rub and it definitely made me feel better.

I can sympathize, Jane. Mom and I still have way too much stuff around. But with a move projected in 5-7 years we have plenty of time to downsize. Maybe...

Well, we got the storms but no damage other than me jumping at one very close & LOUD lightning strike & wrenching my back a bit. This one was nowhere near the storm we had a month of so ago that ripped roofs off down by the lake & tore up trees at the cemetery.

Had a difficult time sleeping last night and then got up early to take pop bottles & cans back to the store to get the deposits back. I took my Aleve before going, but it didn't kick in very fast & standing there feeding bottles into the machine was sort of painful.

I need to come up with some sort of schedule to get this house cleaned up & keep it that way. Things got way behind when I was down for the TKRs and it hasn't improved much since. Something about two packrats inheriting from two packrats (Mom & Dad) makes for too much stuff & not enough room. {sigh}

Ugh, Jane. Hope you didn't get any of those nasty storms. That weather warning is a common sight here in April and May.

Seni, we have our regular itinerary when we are on the peninsula...von Steihl's in Algoma and Door Peninsula Winery in Carlsville (wine tasting, cherry salsa, and Fat Louie's oil) , Country Ovens in Forestville (dried cherries), Choice Orchards in Sturgeon Bay for cherries. But we'll keep an eye out for some wearing Steelers' gear if we stop at a market. I'll be wearing Packers' gear, but that's hardly a unique identifier up there!

Donna, that means sweet cherries should soon be available down here for a decent price. Yay!

Cheryl--four cats?!? I thought my brother's house was over run with cats when they had 3! Seems to me that the last kitty liked to dance on your keyboard, too, didn't she?

Hey, Maryann--good to hear from you again! That just wretched to be sick when the weather is nice, isn't it?

Shirley, I would imagine that not eating regularly would make it very difficult to manage diabetes. Their sugars must bottom out regularly! It's good that you got some helpful information about foods yesterday. In my metabolic rotation in nursing school, our instructor made a big deal about foot care. Hope they covered that in your class, too.

Shirley, my sister and I did a Leslie Sansone DVD at Christmas every day and it got so that we were ridiculing everyone in the class. There was just something irritating about it after a few days. At least we continued to do it, though.

Well...break time is over. Back to work.

Hi Becca, I can hardly believe that this little girl you have as your Spark Foto would care about suffering people. That is such a cute picture.
Have a nice luncheon and Nice you're going with your pastor to visit with a lady who needs cheering up.

Shirley you are a sweetheart. You are doing the right thing taking care of that diabetes.

Thank you for your comment on my sweets. Today will be my 33rd day w/o desserts or candy, just fresh fruit.

Wow! I missed one day and had so much to catch up on! You all are so busy!

I attended an all day diabetes management class at my hospital yesterday. Talk about overwhelming. There were 3 of us, one of them has had diabetes for 14 years and is elderly and just isn't managing it at all. She doesn't eat, she's a skinny little thing and is on insulin. The other person was younger then me and has 3 little boys and a very supportive husband, he attended with her which I thought was sweet, he had a lot of input and asked some good questions. She had no warning or symptoms and ended up in the ICU for 3 days and then another two days in a room with full blown diabetes and is on insulin. How scary. She also doesn't eat, just dinner. I just can't relate to these people who do not eat meals! So I was the only one there not on insulin and trying to manage this with diet and exercise. I can't imagine anyone who has just been diagnosed with diabetes not taking a class or talking to a nutritionist and trying to do it on their own. It's crazy that insurance doesn't want to cover these classes, they are needed. I learned a lot and the part about food management, portion sizes and the carb counts in foods was a real eye opener. Even though I'm doing Weight Watchers I am finding I need to rethink how I count things. But I feel a lot better about eating now. I was afraid to eat anything before and feel a lot better now, I think I am better equipped for eating out now. I am just so frustrated because where my Dr. wants my numbers and where mine are everyday are two different things. I'm well within the Diabetes standards but not hers. I guess it's just going to take time.

Irene- you are doing so good. I will have to agree that I don't crave chocolate like I once did. But I do still eat it. Just a lot less now.

Cats, hmmm I think they are cute but I can't stand when they get up on the counters. That drives me crazy. But I don't have to worry about it, I'm so so allergic to cats that I can't hardly be in the same house for very long with one. My ds and dil have two cats, two dogs and an iguana, their house is covered in pet hair. I can't hardly be there with them and I hate it.

It's hot and humid here! Too hot to walk outside very well. So I've been trying to walk with Leslie Sansone, I need to buy some other exercise tapes and change them up. Leslie's great but some days I just get tired of her. :)

So glad it's Thursday, I'm so happy to be done with this crazy week and another week at the school. I'm so tired and sore when I get home I can hardly function. Next week I'm leaving early on Mondays and Wednesdays an hour early, hoping it will help.

Seni, it's so good to see you on here again, Yay that your dh is doing well and ready to be back out on the road again. Hope your markets go well this year.

Need to get some work done before going out to this school this afternoon!
Have a great day.

Different sort of day for me: going to a luncheon put on for our MOW volunteers, then I'm doing a visitation with my pastor. This woman has been laid up for a few weeks with cellulitis, and could probably use some cheering up.

I think I'll pass on the cherry tarts, too....
We had some wild thunderstorms last night and today. VERY loud! Things have settled down now, at least. My husband brought something home from the stables last Thursday night.... a 6 week old kitten. So, we now have 4 in the house. I'll try to post a picture soon. I've been busy trying to let them all get acquainted (and not step on the little one... she's so tiny). And to think I never liked cats..... guess that changed.
Seni. glad that your husband is doing well. Hope you are too!
Just trying to survive the next week and a half.... we have the first week in July off from work. CAN'T WAIT!!! It's been so hot and muggy.
Irene, you are amazing! I don't think I could live without some chocolate (and I really don't want to try..... hahaha) But, good for you!
Shirley, sounds like you are working really hard on managing your diabetes. I had to be a bit of a shock to you, but better to find out now, while you can do something about it. You sure don't want to let it get out of control, that could be serious. I wish you the best on this new journey...
Gotta run..... here comes the new kitty, ready to dance on my keyboard again. Still have to come up with a name.

Natl cherry tart day.....hmmm.....pass on that one....but I did buy some cherries today.....the first of the season. I was surprised to see them already. Haven't had a chance to sample them but DH has been in there.
Cats.......never had one in my life. I guess we are dog people. I know cars are much easier to look after though. I agree with Laurie about travelling too much to,have a pet. That is the point we are at in our life right now.
Jane your weather forecasts does not sound good. I hope you have a safe place to take cover. It has been very scary the last few days with all these tornados. What a year!!!
Seni, glad to hear your DH is doing well. Must be very scary for you both. Drop by when you can....we love to hear from you.
Today was my gym day and finally did my little produce shopping. I am set now for a few days. We sure seem to eat a lot of edit and veggies. Tonight we are having new potatoes, baby carrots and Swiss chard. Can hardly wait!!!
Hope you all have a good evening!!!

Thanks for all the prayers for Hubs. He has a condition called Basal Cell Carcinoma Nevus Syndrome, so he gets various types of cancers in a predictable progression. So far, we have managed to catch all the skin cancers before anything metastasizes. He is doing well and is ready to get back to work. Two weeks was about 10 days too much to his way of thinking.

Glad everyone seems to be doing so well (for the most part). Amazed at Irene's willpower!
Glad things are looking up for you, Shirley. Might see you up here if you come to any of the Dorr County farmers markets, Cheeser emoticon I'll be wearing my steelers sweatshirt if it's breezy.

Have a wonderful week, I'm going to be pretty swamped with work until after July 4th, so if I'm not on much, that would be why!

Laurie, I just uploaded a photo of Sadie.. Getting bit was my own fault - she was yowling at something in the back yard & I bent over to part the vertical blinds to see what was going on. I never did find out what she was making a fuss about because she applied a little displaced aggression to my arm. Crazy part was I was trying to keep her from waking Mom up and forgot that without her hearing aids, Mom couldn't hear much of anything.

Quiet day today. It's 79 outside, but there's a nasty looking line of storms heading our way. The line is just starting to move into Livingston Co. which is one county to our west. The National Weather Service has this warning out: SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING AS A CONVECTIVE COMPLEX APPROACHES FROM THE WEST. THE STRONGEST STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH AND HAIL GREATER THAN ONE INCH IN DIAMETER. THERE IS ALSO A RISK OF ISOLATED TORNADOES. STORM MOTION WILL BE TO THE EAST AT 40 MPH. ANY STORM THAT DEVELOPS WILL ALSO BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING AND INTENSE RAINFALL..

Jane, I know several cats with touchy personalities. And I don't get close enough to them for them to prove it! If we get cats in the trap, they will go to Prairie Paws, our local shelter. We do far too much traveling to keep a pet. And I'm allergic to cats, though I do still like petting them. I just need to take allergy stuff when I visit the cat people in my life.

Irene, last time I lost a lot of weight, my downfall were those Korean donut shops they have on nearly every corner here. Never had an apple fritter before then, and they became a real addiction. Now I can go into the break room and pretty much ignore the little critters.

Becca, don't know if particularly care for cherry tarts, but I sure do like tart cherries! We'll be replenishing our supply when we go up north later this summer.

That's hilarious, Becca--Keurig and Teapot!

I visited the HOA office this morning and she thought the trap was out, but will check with the maintenance guys for me. Nothing new dug up that I noticed, but the yard is such a mess that unless they drag some plants around it's hard to see what is new and what is old. It's getting too hot to work out in the yard these days and I'm not inclined to sweat it out until we get rid of it.

Thanks Becca for the emoticon on being dessert free for this is my 32nd day today and I have made up my mind no turning back.
That is how mom treated stray cats. She would put food out and she was the only one who could get close to them.

Today is Nat'l Cherry Tart Day. Not sure I'd want to try for that one, but real cherries will be on sale soon and I always get some of those.

Irene: congrats on your month of dessertlessness!

Bethan: for me, sweets are pretty much anything sweet. And there are a LOT of those little guys lurking around.

Laurie: last couple of weeks, we've had a stray cat come around. Nobody has gotten close enough to see if he/she is spayed or declawed. I just get a small bowl of food to put on the back porch. Don't keep it out there all the time or we would have every stray animal around. We call the cat Teapot... Keurig isn't too happy to be sharing her food, but I can't help that.

But maybe I should change my name it Kittymomma... emoticon

Today was my 31st day w/o desserts or candy. Did I tell you why I'm doing this?
Hello my name is Irene and I'm a sweetaholic
When I start I can't stop. I can have a piece of cake, a slice of pie and ice cream all in one meal.
If someone gives me a box of really good chocolates I can eat them all in one sitting.
I was putting on the pounds so went to TOPS and SPARK and quit. I went almost a year without them then I was in rehab and they gave me desserts sometimes 3 times a day and lots of salt neither of which I needed. Someone told me I had to eat to have strength to do my PT so I did it. When I got out I kept on sweets as I had the desire back again.
Now I can sit by an ice cream machine (my favorite) and watch people come and go with ice cream and get up and walk away.

I love Salmon if it is cooked right, not overcooked as many people do fish.

Laurie.. A live trap is how my folks "adopted" their last cat, Sadie. Dad was trying to catch a raccoon and baited the trap with a hotdog. Next morning they had this large long-haired black cat in the trap. {g} She was already altered & front declawed so the only thing I can think of is that she belonged to someone elderly who had passed away & the family dumped her at the first farm out of town. She had a kink in her tail like it had been caught in a car door and a sore hip. We kept her winters when Mom & Dad went to Florida and I was always very happy to take her back "home" in the spring. Very touchy personality & I have a couple scars to prove it.

Aw, gee, Donna. It was a really good salad, too emoticon But there will be more next Monday. Don't disappoint us! But, fresh salmon, tough to compete with that!

Laurie, I hate to tell you this but I got a better offer. Friends had a fresh salmon so invited us over to sample that! Who can resist fresh salmon, just caught, and it is salmon season here in BC. Hmmmmm gotta love it! How is next Monday for you..... emoticon

Hope you catch that critter!!! I am not fond of any animal that interferes with my flowers!!!

Har...I'm with you, Lynn. This gal is definitely sleeping later when I retire! I've always been more of a night owl.

Hey Donna, thought you were coming over for salad last night. emoticon

Bethan, that's not the best news, is it? Good idea to get another opinion, though.

Shirley, sounds like you are moving forward. A lot of time that just makes us feel better...to be doing something.

Called animal control this morning. Whatever is digging in the yard uprooted a big phlox plant yesterday--that's the last straw! They said that trapping is what they recommend, though getting an armadillo in a trap is hard. They are practically blind and deaf. They recommend using wet cat food as bait. I sure hope we don't end up with every stray cat in the neighborhood in our yard! I heard yesterday that the HOA might have a trap we can use, and if we actually manage to catch the critter, animal control will come out and remove it from the trap and relocate the varmint.

Hi all, well Lynn, I think you have an awesome family. Imagine your kids coming to help with chores around the house. It sounds like the best gift ever and great family time. Also, hope the tests went well yesterday.
Becca, love you keeping me informed of the special days!!!!
Bethan, oh I sure hope you don't have to have your surgery redone.......not something I would look forward to. Once was enough!!!!
Shirley, things seem to be coming together with your diabetes education. Knowledge is power for sure and especially in this case. Sounds like you are on the right track with your food choices. I can see another few pounds coming off this week. You should probably be taking before pictures so you can see the difference when you reach your goal then doing a spark blog for the rest of the Community!!!
Today, is going to be a wonderful day so I am going to,get outside for awhile.
Have a good day all.

Hello all, thanks so much for your responses as to when you had surgery on knees. I am not pleased to hear that so many of you still have pain even after some years! Oh dear! Well, the doc wasn't too impressed with my crooked leg, bur luckily I am on BoneSmart (anyone on here a member of BoneSmart? Brilliant site with experts for opinions and also of course, you can share experiences. Anyway, the expert there, an orthopaedic nurse of some 53 years experience, looked at my photos and pronounced I have valgus deformity which is effectively a wonky leg! She reckons it's seriousl maligned and recommended I go for a second opinion asap. She even gave me names. So, before I do that, I must get a first opinion from my surgeon and have gone behind my doc's back and arranged an appointment with him in July. It sounds as though I might have to have it redone and I'm not sure I could bear that!

Shirley, I'm so sorry to hear about your diabetes and can totally sympathise with the stages of grief. It's a shock and I hope you get lots of support from family and medics over there.

Becca, when you say sweets, I think you mean desserts/puddings? (and cake maybe?) I am a great lover of sweets, by which I mean 'candies' for those of you in US! toffees, boiled sweets, chocolate (of course), nutty confections, anything really! Uhoh!

Senimmo, I'm sorry to hear about your hubs. What a worry, take care of you also.

Bethan

50 points for the team!

Just wrote a message and my computer crashed and lost it all! Phooey!

Anyway, the highlight was my assessment went well at the hospital yesterday and according to them insurance is going to cover it. I will believe it when I see it! But anyway, I learned a lot yesterday just spending an hour with the nutritionist and am looking forward to the class tomorrow.

I would have to pick the apple strudle over the veggies Becca, but I'm pretty covered today, a nice salad for lunch and apple pie yogurt for a snack! Will see how that tastes!

Anyway, I'm not up to repeating what I just wrote and lost. :( Hope everyone has a good day!

Shirley

Take your pick: it's Nat'l Eat Your Veggies Day, or Nat'l Apple Strudle Day...

Today I celebrated my first month without desserts or candy, just fresh fruit which is good and necessary.

Good evening - well I'm all "patched up" So far its not TOO itchy but it seems a long time til Friday. Luckily I have a busy week so that'll make it go fast. Had an interesting talk with the dr....not sure I agree with all he said yet.

Seni - so good to hear from you! Certainly will keep dh in my prayers...let us know how things go

I can't do ANY exercise this week - they don't want me to sweat and get any of the patches wet or loosened. So Donna you do some workout for me!! :) Good news that dh doesn't have to go back to the dr. for a whole year. I'd like to go a whole year and not see a dr at this point.

Well Becca -- you and I both missed our naps today! I was too wired after going to the dr. and just kept busy this afternoon and by the time I looked at the clock it was 4PM and I thought - no sense in napping now - or I'll be up all nite! I am finding I"m becoming quite the nite owl...usually up til 11:30, sometimes 1AM!!! But I'm usually up by 8 - no matter what time I go to bed. DH on the other hand is always up by 4:30 or 5! He says it's b/c that was his waking time for almost 30 years when he worked at the shop -- well I got up at 5:15 every morning for 42 years....but that's NOT going to be my waking time anymore!!

Have to get ready for dd and her dh to come tomorrow nite. They're spending the nite and spending Wed here with us for my "Mother's Day" gift. I'd told them I didn't need any gifts - that all I needed was them and their time. So they're coming to do anything we need around the house....so for the 'guys' they are going to put up the new shutters we bought (if it doesn't rain) That's for 3 windows! If it rains then it's Ced helping my dh start up his new MP3 player that he has no idea how to set up! For we girls we're going to clean out 3 closets and do some rearranging of them. Should be a fun day!! Yesterday and today they spent the time with her dad and took him to the Indiana Dunes for Father's Day. They are good kids!

Talk to you all tomorrow!
