Glad the Olympics are over, and back to regular programming and Dr. Oz shows again! I recently bought some coconut flour and almond flour. Planning to experiment with some healthy dessert ideas. The coconut flour is very high in fiber, so that's probably why it is somewhat healthier.

I use a lot of turmeric (the spice) when I cook, and I like apple cider vinegar on salads and potatoes.

I saw the Dr. Oz show this week about different fats. I like coconut oil for cooking and baking. For spreading on toast, vegetables, etc., I make my own "spread" with equal parts of butter and olive oil. I soften (almost melt) butter in the microwave, and then stir in an equal amount of olive oil. Keep it in the fridge. It melts and spreads well, but tastes like butter. If it's still too hard, just add more olive oil next time. You can also make seasoned spreads by adding garlic powder, oregano, and other herbs, etc., for vegetables, etc. I think it saves money to make it yourself. And I use unsalted butter, so you don't get any extra sodium.

So, for the next several weeks I won't be able to watch Dr Oz, because my TV station will be showing the Olympics instead. Let me know if I miss any good food/health tips!

That's a good well-rounded regime Pearl.

Besides my multi-vitamin I take vit D3, acidophilus with bifidus, magnesium, eye vitamin with lutein, devil's claw, and glucosamine chondroitin with MSM. I sip apple cider vinegar with water throughout the day and because of a history of kidney stones I can't take calcium supplements, but will occasionally have a Tum or two.

l buy my vitamins at Cosco.l take a multi,garlic pill,tumeric pill, pill for my eyes and flax oil pill as well.l also take a low dose iron pill.l take these in the morning.at night l take calcium,magnesium,vitamen D and vitamin K2.

I haven't had a chance to buy the bread yet, but I did buy some nutritional yeast. I saw one of Dr. Oz's shows where he talked about that, and I remember eating that many years ago. A health food store I used to visit sold it in bulk in bins. I don't go near there any more, so I ordered some from Amazon, Bragg's brand, and it arrived today. It tastes as I remember, and I like it! I plan to use it on popcorn and other foods. I wanted to buy it because it is high in B vitamins, and I feel like I'm lacking in them, and I'd rather get my vitamins from foods than take a supplement. So, I'm happy with my purchase. (I'm aware some people may not like it....I think it's one of those products that people love or hate!)

Did anyone watch the show today, on 1/15, about bread? It was a show that I found interesting, because I would like to learn more about the various grains and how they impact our nutrition. There was a segment on sprouted grains and bread made from them. I've never tried that...anyone here? You buy that type of bread in the freezer section of the store, because it doesn't contain any preservatives and has to be kept frozen until you use it. I think I may try that next time I go shopping. I have diabetes and I'm always looking for a bread that won't raise my blood sugar too much. I had been buying a rye bread that was great, but my store stopped selling it. I've read that sourdough doesn't raise blood sugar as much as white bread. I have no idea how the sprouted grains might impact it. I know high fiber is supposed to be better than low fiber, but also I have to watch overall carbs.

I hope to comment more frequently about the shows and the health aspects of his shows, when they interest me, if anyone else would like to comment. (I'm not interested in the crime shows he is doing a lot of lately...I generally don't watch them, as the news is gruesome enough without re-living an old crime. I prefer to learn about health and nutrition from Dr. Oz...I don't think we need more crime shows! Just my opinion.)

I hear ya on 2017 going by so fast. Both my dad and I had 2 surgeries each this year. I had carpel tunnel surgeries on both hands and he had stents put into his legs. Plus I have been keeping busy with making Christmas gifts and baby stuff for my youngest niece who will be expecting her 3rd child in 2 months and a week from today. She's having a boy so I have been making boy stuff.

I'm actually looking forward to September. It's been a very hot summer, and I like fall best! Also...tired of the reruns on TV. I'm ready for new Dr. Oz shows, so we can talk about them! :)
