@ NIGHTSKYSTAR Thank you for the encouragement. I see that now. All I can for the moment is to continue to do my daily walk and log the minutes, distance and steps and let sparkpeople estimate how many calories I burned.
Thank you everyone for your support. You don't know how much it means to me.

Hi there..
pedometers are notoriously innaccurate!! please dont be discouraged I have a Bodybugg, and was amazed at the difference between it and my pedometer. I now use the bugg only..it does measure steps too, but also calculates your burn by your movement and body heat.
Keep up the great work!!

Thank you guys for the info. I wasn't sure because for the first few days it was counting all my steps and now when I go and do my walk every morning, it counts half of what I've done. But I just keep on going because this is a goal I see my myself accomplishing. But I will check out Omron HJ-112.

I have an Omron HJ-112. It costs $40 but it is worth it. You can wear it clipped on your belt or just put it in your pocket, which is great for me at work. I got it at Rite Aid - you can get it at lots of stores and online too.

I had a coil spring one and it didn't count all my steps. So I order a new one. You can search them online for some real good ones. I spend about 35.00 dollars for mine. But some can cost more.

I wear my on my hip and only change the weight when my weight changes. What kind do you have? I know they all run on a battery, but some have are a spring-levered pedometers with Coiled Spring. Mine is a pedometer mechanism that is quite silent and more accurate for those with protruding waists, or if worn at various angles. And more accurate at slower walking speeds, which I do at times.

I only entered the weight once since I bought it last week and since I only weigh myself once a month, I don't change it. So do i change it every time I use it? And I have it positioned on my hip. Is there a particular place to place it and if so, where?

How you check the weight that you entered? or where it is position? Some only work in certain positions. I had to get one that would work in any position.

I'm using a pedometer, that measures the distance and calories burned. At first it was saying 433 calories and now it says 175-181. I wonder why is that?

I've been walking 3 miles everyday in the morning 6 days and noticed that in 50 minutes that I only burn anywhere from 175-185 calories, but I burn almost 700 calories while I'm at work. I was wondering is that normal and what can I do to change that. I work as a medical records clerk in a clinic and i walk around all day everyday. If anyone knows why please let me know because this is very discouraging to the point where I feel like giving up.
