Hey everyone!

Sorry I didn't post any today, but it has been a go go go go go day. I had a doctors appointment this morning. I had some tests ran a few weeks ago. (pretty standard tests for me) I have PCOS and because of that, my thyroid and my blood sugar levels can get really wacky real easy. Plus it's a big infertility issue. Mostly the entire endocrine system get screwy. So I'm supposed to get my sugar tested every 6 months and everything else tested every year around my girlie exam. Well, it's THAT time of year. So I got my results today. EVERYTHING was within the perfect normal range. My sugar was 83 (fasting), my thyroid was 2.7 (in a range of .25-5.5), and my cholesterol was 198. So she suggested that I get some fish oil pills to start on the cholesterol business and she said the exercise would start bringing the rest of it down. Now, even though I lost 2.2lbs HERE, I GAINED 9.8lbs in 3 weeks. And in the past 6 months I have put on almost 40lbs. This was a chief concern of mine to her, so she said that my PCOS is probably flaring up again. (it went "away" while I was pregnant with my son and it's still not the "same") She is thinking that I need to be on metformin. So I'm on that. I hate that stuff. It makes my stomach cramp all the time. Afterward I picked up my niece and son and we went to Evansville, Indiana (45min interstate drive). There we went to the shoe outfitter, Olive Garden (I'm STILL within my calories! YAY!), and Barnes and Noble (My niece is a HUGE reading fan. She bought 4 books). Then I finally get home and have to clean on the house some, feed my lil man and get his daddy up for work. NOW I'm unwinding. *L*

Thank you everyone for your well wishes about my family issues. I wish it would get better, but I'm not very hopeful about it. I just hope that we can get help to the one that needs it and the other one that is causing all this needless drama can just deal with the consequences of her actions. I really could not care less about her.

Mitchell-I miss the countryside in Germany. It seems so clean compared to here. I'll have to go out sometime soon and start taking pictures of it around here. It's beautiful. But it's a wild looking beautiful.

Shelly- I was in an athletic shoe fitters store today. (AWESOME place. They actually fitted the shoes based on your gait and the mileage you plan on putting on the shoes.)ANYWAYS! They have these "compression" things that go on your legs from the knee to the ankle. They're supposed to support your shins to help reduce shin splints. Here's a link to a website that is all about stretches and this is specific to shin splints. I hope it helps. http://www.thestretchinghandbook.com/archi
ves/shin-splints.php

Cecelia- I hope your day has gone well! :) It's good to be busy. It prevents boredom eating! :D

Ginger- If your calves are hurting, there is something going on. Regardless of the old adage, pain is NOT good. Maybe you are having issues with your body and potassium.
Depending on your workout, you might want to do some specific calf stretches before AND after your workout.

Rachel- I'm sorry your weigh in was disappointing to you. I understand that ALL too well! Just look at the overall picture. It might be getting close to "that time". I know I gain weight like crazy mad when it's that close for me. I also retain fluid around that time. Sometimes I can't even wear my shoes it gets so bad. I figured if I get that while I'm here, I just won't weigh that week and weigh in the next.

Zoe- I hope your husband gets to feeling better soon. And if he is having some gallbladder attacks that they get that fixed soon. Those things can be excruciating!

Tricky Tracy

Ok, let's see if I can get to everybody! I also have this thread open on my cell phone so I can scroll through it at the same time!

Shelly-You should look me up on FB... Ceceliafruik@yahoo.com (and anyone else who would like to)! That's so great about taping. I wish I knew how to tape. Shin splints are the biggest reason I can't run much. It takes serious working out for months before I can run much. Way to go! Yuck, melon juice is the stickiest! I just finished cutting a watermelon after dinner. Except I make balls instead of chunks or wedges. It cuts down on the mess!

Ginger-Where are you that milk gets delivered? It sounds pretty neat, but I guess not so much when you run out!

Mitchell-I would definitely send you Splenda! The boxes are super light. I bookmarked the postage calculator you sent. I'd probably go with just first class mail. I'll get with you in the next week for the particulars! It's seems like such a simple thing for us in the states. I walk for my cardio minutes, and I burn a couple hundred calories doing a 12 minute mile on the treadmill, but it takes 2 miles. In a couple weeks I might try running again.

Zoe-I'm right there with ya at 5:45am! Gotta get my kids up and going. I'm so glad tomrrow is the last day of school. I know it's silly, but I was taking kindergarten graduation pictures. I don't necessarily agree with celebrating every single thing our kids do, but I'm the helpful one. My 3 girls are ages 13, 6, and 3yrs. They are just the best!

Rachel-I feel ya! Don't get discouraged. My shorts were feeling snug in the thighs, but I think it was just from the workouts. Give it some time and don't give up!

I think I got it all covered. Chat with ya'll tomorrow! Good night!

~Cecelia~

Rachel, I'm so sorry for you! This really sucks. Sure, it's great when you gain muscles and weigh more because of them, but that is not what you want to see on the scale. Anyway keep on track! Just imagine that these 1.5 lbs of muscle will burn more fat in the next time than they weigh and I'm sure you're weight WILL drop when you keep going!
Have you read about weight fluctuations? Shelly opened a thread about that. Probably it's just water retentions. In fact the weight can vary throughout one single day by 1 kg! That is 2 lbs! Please don't take it too seriously, you're on the right way emoticon

Zoe, thank you! I'd like to see what it's like where you live! I'll try walking tomorrow morning. Let's see if it's working for me :)

I'm afraid of tomorrow. My first weigh in... :/ I'll go to bed now and I will let you know what the scale said first thing in the morning! Have a good night and sleep tight :)

My weigh-in this morning was discouraging. I had gained 1.5 pound since last Thursday. It is really hard for me to accept this after all the work that I have put into exercising and eating right. The ladies at TOPS told me I probably gained muscle from so much increase in exercise. Maybe I did. It is still discouraging for me though.

Last fall I was walking 3 miles per day and had great results. I like walking because I am older (53) and I am less likely to injure myself. It is getting close to 100F here and in the summer you really have to get up pre-dawn because once the sun is out, it is too hot very quickly. I'll try to get some pictures of AZ on my page and let you know what it looks like. We do have the Grand Canyon about 6 hours from here and it is astoundingly beautiful. The mountains are not too far either but nothing as green and lush as the Alps. We even have desert landscaping at my house (rocks, cactus) in order to conserve water. I've been here for 20 years and it took some getting used to. I grew up in the coastal area of California so I still miss the ocean.

Rachel, I hope the weigh in went well!

Zoe, how warm does it get outside these days where you are? I can't imagine how it is to be in the desert...
Congrats on walking so early in the morning! emoticon
You're probably right about the food. In that respect we're lucky to be able to find products with NOTHING added. I'm not even a fan of added vitamins and I cook with fresh supplies from scratch every day, but i think sometimes a low cal convenient sweet snack would be great. Sometimes I simply have the need for something like that and I end up eating a ton of fruits and as that is not satisfactory I eat e.g. a roll of oreo cookies afterwards :/ I just think that something like an oreo cookie with less calories would be good in that case.

I tried a fitness video from sparkpeople today (cardio kickboxing with Nicole) and I really liked it. Has anyone else tried fitness videos on this site?

And I have a question. Did you change your "my fitness" tracker? Because I already burned over 1500 kcal this week, although I was supposed to burn 780. Now it says that I need to adjust what I eat, so that I don't eat less than I need. I'm not sure if I should do that. :/

And another questen: I went running three times the week (45 mins with 30 mins of running and 15 mins of walking) before last week and I got shin splits. Now I'm thinking about going walking instead. If you walk, how far do you walk to get good results? Or how long?

Have fun and keep on moving buddies! emoticon

This morning I did not want to get up. I started to bed at a reasonable time but was up and down until midnight with a sick hubby (gallbladder???). My 3 furry alarm clocks did not know this though and still woke me at dawn. I forced myself to get up and feed them and was out taking one for a walk by 5:50 and am so glad I did. It is hot here so going early is a must and if I had waited, I wouldn't have gone at all. I feel so wonderful having walked that I must remember this feeling in order to motivate me on those days I don't want to.

Rachel - good luck with the weigh in! Let us know.

Shelly - I've started using a small window of text edit to write my replies as I read, I just cut and paste the final. And your story about bestest mommy was adorable.

Mom6 - prepregancy clothes - hahaha, my kids are both in college; is it too late?

Mitchell - gonna have to agree with Shelly about eating clean. I've newly started trying to eat only "real" food and it's amazing how much stuff is in the ingredient list of things. The theory is that if you are satisfied you won't eat as much. I'm taking baby steps and haven't been eating any dessert like things. Last night I had calories left over and I was hungry; I was tempted to grab the low-cal ice-cream sandwich from the freezer but instead had .5 cup vanilla yogurt with 4 large strawberries. I don't really know but it just seems to make sense to eat more natural food - I know what sugar does to me, I'm not so sure about the substitutes.

Cecelia - is your daughter graduating high school? I was in mommy-nirvana in May because my daughter got her AS in Criminal Justice and my son graduated high school - two graduations in one week! I was so high!

Ginger - no, your calves are not suppose to feel like that. Try the potassium, try some stretches. Otherwise, glad you're having a great day too.

Wow, the message board posts on this team should count for more than 1 point! emoticon

Merry Christmas!

Don't have much time right now to comment but I wanted to wish everyone a happy and successful day. I have to leave in about 15 minutes to go to pay some bills (it's payday) and to go to my TOPS meeting. It is weigh-in day so I'll be back later to let you know how I'm doing on that.

Cecelia, sounds like a busy day! I think it's great that you take the pictures! Thank you for the compliment. emoticon
Would you really send some Splenda? That'd be awesome! You're a gem! How heavy is one box? I found this calculator on the internet, but I'm not sure if that is the right one. Here is the link:
http://ircalc.usps.com/?country=10137
Of course I can transfer the money for the shipping to you and I'm not just saying! Or how about I send you something back sometime! Swiss dark chocolate or Lebkuchen, Vollkornbrot... Just in case you want to try something European that you can't get in the US! :)

I hope it's not too annoying, but I'm again amazed by the differences. I often read about all those clubs and things that happen at schools! And parties at school and... Well when I went to school there were no clubs, no committees, no parties. Some sport teams and that was it. School was a place you went to every day for six hours or so and got back home and that was it. I think it is great how those clubs and teams encourage the children and how the children can be a part of something so early in their lifes!

Shelly, I totally understand that. Geneva is a great place to live and I will definately try to get a job in Switzerland when I'm done studying!
And your daughter? how cute is that?! Haha, really, I enjoyed reading that story, it put a smile on my face!
And somehow you are right about the diet foods... Not having much processed food around can be good, but sometimes the alternatives that you have available in the stores are sooo convenient!
And good idea opening a word window... I will totally copy that ;)
Haha, and obviously I tend to write novels, too, so you're not alone with that!

Ginger, I'm so glad you're having a great day! :)

I had a wonderful morning and early afternoon, too. I sat in the sun on our patio with my mom and we had a good talk and drank mint tea!

I need to finish some reports now, have a good time today, I'll check in some time later on!

Ok so here is how I can remember what to write to each of you. I open a separate window in Word and go back and forth between screens and then copy and paste. Totally cheating right? Hahaha Oh, and if you all haven’t noticed I tend to write novels. I guess this is what happens when you have little adult interaction.

Ginger - Glad to see your husband is being so considerate and helpful on your journey. I think he would have to pry my hands from his throat if he ordered Mozz sticks in front of me. LOL Are your calves cramping? If so up your potassium levels. Either pop a pill or eat a banana a day. I’d be so mad if our guy forgot to deliver our milk.

Cecelia - Can I tell you how much I love your name! It was on our list when we were naming our last 2 babies. Anyway, Co Springs is a beautiful place. We’re going to make a day trip next week to go to the zoo. My little ones should have a blast feeding the giraffes. Is your husband career Army? It must be hard moving. Thank you to him and to you for your service! Does your Mom know you are trying to get control of your health? We have neighbors that are constantly going out of their way to sabatoge us. Its strange. I hope you got on the treadmill last night. Keep with it. Two chili dogs are not going to ruin you. J

Mom6 - Its never too late to fit in pre-pregnancy clothes. It took me 4 years after I had my oldest to get pre-preg size. I still have 25 lbs to go to be where I was when I got pregnant with baby #2, she’s 2 ½ now. I hope you had some great me time last night. As Moms we never get enough of that.

Rachel - I’ve looked at the eat this not that on line before. I am somewhat amazed at how you can cut calories by making small changes. But then there are the ones that I go “DUH” of course that’s 2500 calories and 68 grams sat fat. It can be helpful if you (general you) eat out much.

Tracy - Sorry about the family stuff. It never seems to go away does it. As soon as one thing settles down another one rears its ugly head. Its constant drama here. I hope it gets better or resolves itself very soon! And the sleepless nights with a little one can be so hard. I completely understand that. My youngest sleep great but then unexpectedly one of them will decide that playing at 2 am sounds better than sleep. Wish I knew what caused that. Lol

Zoe - Congrats on the weight loss! 2 ½ lbs is fantastic!!!!! Glad you are feeling better! I take my largest dog with me when head out at certain times of the day for “protection” too. We have too many coyotes for me to go by myself. Not that she would do anything but run and hide but I can pretend that she would beat something up for me. lol

Mitchell - Your food choices at the store I think almost make it easier to pick foods. At least it would be for me. I wouldn't get reeled in by all the "diet" food. I've learning to eat more clean and its so nice. However, like you, I love to bake. I haven't baked or eaten a backed item for 1 month now. It stinks too!!! I don't plan on eating or baking until my bday in the middle of July. :-(

Good morning Mitchel! I am having a great day! Too bad I can't stay in bed to 11, but someone around here has to work. I don't know why I'm always elected. lol

I busted my butt this morning to make a sandwich and pack some bananas and blueberries and cereal for breakfast and lunch. And what do I find when I finally get hungry... no milk. It's delivered weekly and there is no milk. There are about 20 containers of half and half... no milk. Can you tell I am a tad disappointed? On the upside I saved 100 calories. LOL

I've already had one 32oz bottle of water so I am on the upside there. If I can actually work out when I get home then today will be golden. My calves are killing me though. I think I did something to them. They feel like they have charlie horses in them all the time. Or maybe this is what they are supposed to feel like.

Mitchell - Sounds like its going to be a great day there. A few years ago my husband the opportunity to take a job in Geneva. Sadly the timing was bad and he had to turn the job down. Kick ourselves every so often for that one. It is an absolutely gorgeous amazing place. Maybe someday that sort of opportunity will come along again.

I ran last night and I ran again this morning. My shins are killing me but after I complained on facebook a friend of mind reminded me that he has a degree in sports med so he called and walked the husband through the steps of taping my legs. I look incredibly silly but oh my gosh they feel good. Now my arms and abs are another story. That old school workout from yesterday morning has left its mark.

Cute story. I went to the store late last night and picked up some fruit because my children can never get enough. I started cutting up the melons this morning and my middle daughter (Delilah 2 1/2 years) sat on the counter while I was cutting. She ate as I cut. I swear that she ate 1/2 a cantaloupe and nearly as much honeydew. She then looked at me with juice dripping off her chin and fingers and said "You are the bestest Mommy because she buy me melons." Ah the simple things in life.

I'm back for another day. I got 2 of my 3 kids off to school, and now I'm heading up to the elementary school to take pictures of my daughter's class in their graduation caps. Then get them printed and back to the school by the end of the day. And get some laundry started somewhere in there.

Mitchell-It's been bugging me. Your lack of grocery selection. And I've really stopped to think about all the things I take for granted. I've got a box and a half of Splenda in my pantry. Such simple things. Surely the postage can't be that much. We should check it out. I would send you Splenda! Postage to Iraq is like sending within the states. It's not bad at all. And your pics look great! And you look great too! We have no beautiful scenery around here! Maybe someday I'll see Europe.

Everyone have a great day. I'll check back later!

Good morning everone!

Today is a holiday here. It's nearly 11 am and I just got out of bed! What a lazy start for today... I have to get some things done for university today, but the weather is great outside: around 81°F and sunshine, sunshine, sunshine! I guess I'll have to get my things done really fast so I can get outside! Too bad we don't have a lake here. I don't like pools, I prefer to go swimming in the nature.
The week before last I was in Switzerland with my boyfriend to visit his father there and oh my gosh! The lakes in the mountains are a DREAM! I never saw so beautiful lakes and creeks in my life and I really wanted to swim there, but it was freezing cold because the water in the lakes is melted ice from the mountains. We'll go there again in the summer and I'm so looking forward to it!
On my profil pic I'm standing on a mountain and behind me you can see one of those lakes! I'll upload a few more pics, so you get a better idea of it!

Cecilia, you look so good together with your husband :) and happy, too!

Have a nice morning everyone and check by my page some time to check out the new photos ;)

Talk to you later!
