Ugh, what a day! What started off as a good day has gone down hill into the pits! My mom wanted to make us dinner tonight... chili cheese hotdogs. Before I knew it, she had already fixed our plates, and here I was, staring at 2 chili cheese dogs. I'm not too terribly upset. That will just set me back even more. And swimming didn't happen either. Thunder and lightening storm hit us rather suddenly. So I'm heading to the treadmill as soon as I finish this post. Tomorrow is another day.

And look, I finally got some pics posted! Check out my page!! See everyone tomorrow!!

Good evening everyone!

Zoe, I hear from a lot of foreigners that they want to drive the Autobahn. I drive an average of 85 mph and I'd say that is the average speed on the Autobahn. I wouldn't even say that is fast, but I guess that is because I'm used to it and don't know anything else, although I still get the chills when someone approaches behind me and starts pushing on the left lane with 140 mph! That is the downside - some people are really reckless

cfruik, I second that! Every time I reply I go like "Oh darn! What did xxx write? I have to remember... Have to remember... I knew it just a second ago! Ah screw it" and have to go back and look again.
On your fitness for today: A mile is much better than doing nothing and when you go swimming later there is nothing to feel guilty about! You keep moving and that is the most important thing! Have fun in the pool! :)
I hate not being able to bake with less calories because I LOVE to bake, but with all the full fat / sugar ingredients it is not healthy. Especially when one tends to eat not only ONE cookie. You know what I mean ;) I'm lost without sweets on the other hand. In past diets, after one or two weeks completely without sweets, I ended up buying something VERY sweet/fat/rich and ate it all at once and that is so embarrassing and I felt so weak that my motivation was gone most of the times. I hope I manage it this time!
One can mail dry products, but shipping is so expensive, don't you think? Must be horrible prices for mailing to Iraq?! I searched for products on ebay and found splenda and sugarfree lifesavers, as well as kool aid, but they wanted over 30 dollars for these three articles (including shipping) and that is too much for my budget.

Mom6, I arrived savely, thank you very much :) I would have loved to take both of you with me, but I guess your husband wouldn't be too keen on driving my car if he is used to sport cars, as it is small and can't drive faster than 100 mph ;)
Have a great time at the gym!

I'm finally at my parents house and did the strength exercises and even streched afterwards, although I was really tired from the drive here. In addition to that I did my fitness test on the Wii. The test was good, but the program weighs you every time you do the test and I usually do it in the morning and because of that I thought I was prepared to see more pounds on the scale than last time, but I still feel bad because of the difference :( (1.5 lbs more than monday morning)

I'm going to bed now, it's already 1 am! Have a good evening everyone and sleep well later on! I'm really happy to have you all! emoticon emoticon

OK all, I had to take a pen and paper to write down my response as they NEED to let us read ALL in order to reply, PROPERLY LOL

Aunt R - thanks for the tips on the book. I haven't picked it up yet, either.

Ginger - good job at Applebees! OH, but the mozz. sticks sound SO good - glad he ate them..FAST:)

Shelly - is it too late when your baby is almost FOUR to try to fit in pre-preg. clothes, haha. I hate shin splints - you really should try to rest them, as they tend to come back if not healed...grrrr. So sorry...prayers for QUICK healing!

Zoe - so glad you are feeling better. I'd take that 2.5lbs overnight:) Wanna give me your..."disease." *smiles

Tracy - hope all is getting better at home - we have a leaky dishwasher that I can't ignore much longer. Hope you (and your son) sleep better tonite!

Mitchell - prayers for a safe trip to your parents! My husband should drive with you...he loves to go to the race car driving schools:)

CF - Great job at Olive Garden. Those breadsticks are TO DIE FOR:) Wonderful willpower and staying on track. We can do THIS!!

I'm off to finish dinner and get to the gym as my husband is OFF on Wed. and has my son at the park..YAY for ME time! Thanks so much for your friendship and encouragement of each other! BE GOOD TO YOU! *Please hope that I didn't miss a post...was reading fast so apologies in advance if I missed any!!

Thanks everyone. Really I don't normally eat DQ but my DD talked me into it. As a mom, I can be a total pushover and she caught me when I was weak. Darn kids. I'm back at it today though. Only about 200 calories for breakfast and then I burned it all up when I did my aerobics video.

My dearest husband took my to Applebee's for lunch where I WANTED the turkey club but went for the chicken and portobella sandwich since it was lower in calories. (thank you again iPhone) He also very generously scarfed his mozzarella sticks down quickly so I didn't have time to ask for one. LOL

I am in West Frickin' Nowhere Massachusetts. It's not safe to walk or bike here as most of the roads are about 1.5 cars wide and it's just plain scary to think about being out there on a bike. Of course, it's easy to not over indulge in treats and things since I have to drive 10 minutes to get to a grocery or about 20 minutes to get to a real restaurant and there is only one pizza place that delivers here. It's not that good.

I have heard of the Eat This Not That. My MIL suggested it to me once (Only because she is trying to lose, too). I know what I should eat... it's just that I actually need to eat that. lol I didn't realize they had multiple versions though.

Wow, so much to reply to. I wish we could see more that just the last post when we reply. I usually have to post, then go back and edit!

I was good at lunch today. My bff and I went to Olive Garden (Italian chain restaurant) for lunch. I had lots of salad and limited myself to only 1 breadstick, which is tough because they're so warm and yummy! I split the spaghetti with my daughter and left some on the plate.

I only did a mile on the treadmill, but I'm taking my girls swimming later tonight.

I am in Killeen, TX (we're stationed at Ft. Hood) which is about an hour north of Austin.

Mom6, Someone say chocolate cake?? Now that would be tough to resist. Good luck!! I'm kinda craving chocolate right now. Might have a fudgsicle instead.

Mitchell, I'm thinking about your lack of grocery items. I'd be up a creek without my sugar free, low fat substitutes. I know I can mail all kinds of goodies when my husband is in Iraq, but can people from the states mail you dry products like splenda, etc?

Tracy, Hang in there with the family trouble. I had a doozy last week, but it finally got resolved yesterday. It was such a relief, but you'll make it. Does tofu really compare to anything?? Yuck!

Zoe, I'm in central Texas, so I'm definitely feeling the heat already too. Staying hydrated?? It really makes it hard to exercise outside. 2.5lb overnight?? Congrats!!

Shelly, I lived in Colorado Springs for about 7 years. Absolutely beautiful. I miss the scenery, the weather, the friends. But home is where the Army unpacks us!

And if I missed anyone, I'm sorry!!

Hello again!

Tracy the book doesn't look at things like that. I just gives you examples of things that would be better then others.

I will give Burger King as an Example. Eat a Whopper Junior without Mayo not a BK Big Fish and save 360 calories. Eat a Flame Broiled Double Cheeseburger instead of a Whopper Sandwich and save 260 calories. Eat Onion Rings instead of French Fries and save 30 calories. Eat a Crossan'wich Bacon, Egg & Cheese instead of Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit and save 310 calories.

I does this for many restaurants showing you the better choices of things to eat if you are to go there. It also list the fat and Sodium showing what the difference is there and how with many items that you get you are getting over your number of calories and sodium for the day with one single item.

It also has a section like this for the Supermarket that is Buy This Not That for various types of items. I must admit I was surprised for chips and snacks to see that Doritos was on the buy side. It is actually better than many of the others are.

There is a section on Eat This Not That for Holiday & Special Occasions. An example of this is for Thanksgiving Eat Turkey breast with homemade cranberry sauce not dark turkey meat with jellied cranberry sauce. A Dinner roll with butter instead of cornbread with butter. Mashed potatoes with gravy instead of Candied Sweet Potatoes with marshmallow topping. and so on.

There is a section on Eat This Not That For Kids. Eat This Not That On a Budget. Eat This Not That Foods That Cure. Eat This Not That The Truth About Your Food. Along with a great Introduction.

Like I said I wouldn't be able to go along with everything they say because I'm not going to give up Ranch Dressing which is the worst of all dressings. But I feel it gives a good perspective on things. And if I choose to go out I can know how to eat something without going way overboard.

I picked it up at the library. They ordered it from another one for me. Checking it out once definitely couldn't hurt anything.

My hubby wants to go to Germany just to drive the Autobahn! He also wants to do the Nurburgring. I don't like to drive fast so he will be on his own if he ever makes it there. LOL He's a bit of a car fanatic and has had three Porsches (they were old when we got them, we are not rich). When we rode motorcycles, we each had BMW's.

And, yes, I'm feeling better.

Hello buddies!

Zoe, I hope you're feeling better now?

Shelly, i guess there are major differences between living in Germany and the US! Transportation, food and products of all sorts and even cultural. I would like to visit the US some day, but the flights cost a hell lot of money... I must say I'm a bit jealous that we have nothing like egg substitute, milkpowder, splenda (the sort which can substitute sugar when you're baking) or skinny cow or... well. To be honest the only good thing we have is sugar free chewing gum. but other sweets or low cal baking supplies? Not really.

Mom6, that is a good idea! People at the east coast have to add 5 hours to their time to get mine, people at the west coast have to add 7 or 8 hours to their time to get mine. people from states in the middle 6.
Most of the time I simply use 6 hours to get a rough idea because it is easy to see on the watch.

Tracy, you're right! I almost forgot that. I had to do a bicycle test, too when I was in elementary school. I can imagine that there are states not good for cycling... We don't have these vast spaces! I guess with that much space and distance between cities/houses that some states have, biking routes wouldn't make much sense and they would be much more expensive. But it is a pity for you though. I wish everyone could do exercises outside without being run over!
And I hope you can fix your family problems! Good luck with that!

I'll drive to my parents now. It's a two hour ride over the Autobahn. Hopefully I'll get there by 11pm. Have a good afternoon everybody!

Good Afternoon everyone!

Sorry I didn't post earlier. We're having some family troubles here and we were busy calling around trying to get it fixed this morning. Or at least getting STARTED on getting fixed.

I didn't sleep well last night, my son was up and down all night long not sleeping well. He's almost a year and a half old.

I'm from Western Kentucky, btw.

Mom6, just get in when you can. :)

Shelly- congrats on fitting into some of your pre-pregnancy clothes! I know I can't wait until I'm wearing some of mine!

Mitchell- My dad was in the service when we lived in Germany. I remember having to go to biking lessons, much like driving school. Learning all the correct signs and signals. Around where I live, there isn't much biking. :( It's not walker or biker friendly here. If you were bicycling, chances are you'd be on the street and people would run you over blaring country music.

Ginger- I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Cfruik- you'll be back in the swing in no time! :)

Rachel- I looked at that book, I wasn't sure just how helpful it would be. I figured it would be like "here's a burger (don't eat) and here's a tofu veggie salad (eat this)" Which I KNOW I should eat the tofu veggie salad, that's a no brainer, however, they aren't comparable. Does it really compare apples with apples, etc?

I'm in Phoenix, Arizona and we are headed for the 100's this week. The "dry" isn't as bad as in August and September when the summer "monsoon's" hit, then it's muggy and you can't even get your breath. I know what you mean AuntRachel, every summer for the past 20 years I question why I live here! Of course the rest of the year is fantastic.

Re: Dairy Queen. Have you tried frozen yogurt? I have a TCBY near me that has non-fat and sugar-free varieties for us and still all the yummy stuff for the kids like toppings.

I slept in late because I was up sick last night. Still feel kind of icky so not walking this morning. Maybe after dark tonight if I'm feeling better. I'll take one of my three big dogs with me to feel safer. Upside, I "lost" 2.5 pounds since yesterday! LOL

Have a great day everyone!

I am from Rupert Idaho which is South Central Idaho. This is the area that I grew up in and glad to be back to. I lived in Arizona for awhile and couldn't deal with the heat there.

Question: I know where a couple of you gals are from. But how about everyone else? I'm in Denver, Colorado.

Mitchell - I was talking to my husband last night about where he went to school in Austria and Germany and so he was pulling up maps and showing me all sorts of things. He talked about the biking and walking nearly everywhere because it didn't make sense to drive. In Germany he said he walked from the bus stop to his apartment 1 1/2 miles on a steep incline past a castle. He the scenery was the only thing that kept him from wanting to go back to the states. emoticon

Ginger - Oh Dairy Queen! When my oldest daughter’s volleyball team completed their season we all went to an ice cream shop. I gave her money and I stood outside while they all ordered and ate. There is no way I could have stepped foot inside an ice cream place and had any self control. Remember to treat yourself to something small if you know you won’t have any control. The option is to steal bites from the kids’ treats. Its called a “fee” in my house for taking them to get something. Lol

Cfruik - Good job keeping up with the workouts. Its hard to stay motivated and you are doing great!

Mom6 - Hope you are having a good day!

Oh my gosh the shin splints are BAD today! I'm not sure what I am going to do about it. Maybe I will try the elliptical tonight. It hurts to walk even today. Grrr!

I went to bed early again last night and woke up at 6:30 and I feel good. I can hardly believe that an hour had already gone by since I got up. I was successful with all of my goals yesterday. I ended up getting 60 minutes in on the bike. I read a book called Eat This Not That by David Zinczenko. I think that everyone should read it. It is amazing what I learned from it. I might not do everything that it suggests doing but I am inspired that I need to make a few changes in the way I eat and what I but. I read the 2010 version. There are several different ones. It is about 300 pages long but it is a quick read as much of it is pictures and stuff that you can go through fast. I hope that everyone has a terrific day. I know I plan to even though I don't yet know what I am going to do with the day.

Oh my god Shelly, I must have over read you lost two dress sizes! emoticon That is really awesome!

cfruik, it was hard for me too when I started riding my bike again. I went to school by bike all the time when I was a kid (small towns in Germany usually only provide school buses when you live at least 2 miles from the next school) and I had no weight problems back then... But now? Hm. I really felt stupid at first but the city I live in is good for biking. Car parking costs money EVERYWHERE near the city center and there are streets and traffic lights especially for biking people. Plus as a student I have to get from one lecture to another in short time intervals which is hard to do in a city "without" parking spaces.
You should really try it! After the first week or so it's fun! Even better than jogging I think. The wind around the nose and the speed feel good ;)
Anyway congrats on walking two days in a row! Make it a 3rd! :) emoticon

Good morning everyone (or good night Mitchell!),

I'm slowly but surely finding the motivation to get back to this journey. It took some time, but I'm tracking my calories and trying to do the same with cardio. I've walked on the treadmill 2 days in a row. Let's see if I can make it a 3rd! I was feeling pretty good until I got dressed this morning. My clothes are fitting a smidge tight in the thighs, but I'm chalking it up to the exercise. I'm not going to think about it. It's just my muscles adjusting.

Shelly, congrats on the new dress size. How great is that?! You might do a search on SP about recycling clothes. I remembered seeing a page/team about what to do with your old clothes and needing in between stuff. I hated buying some 14's for now, but those 10 & 12s from last summer just aren't fitting.

Mitchell, I wish I was brave enough for bike riding. I think I'd just feel silly. Way to go. I can't help with the oatmeal. I like mine cooked on the stove with lots of butter and brown sugar!

Ginger, Dairy Queen is tough to fight! If their vanilla soft serve is similar to McDonalds, then it's relatively low in calories (as opposed to full fat ice cream). I think it can still be a treat ever so often. Hang in there!!

Mom6, Slow down!! Not so fast! Hope you get some down time later!

SNGinger, Dairy Queen explains it all ;)
I imagine it's really hard to see your kids snack sweets when you are on a diet.
Perhaps you shouldn't try to avoid eating something there and instead plan on going there sometimes (not too often, of course) and choose something not too unhealthy/high in calories for your day before going there on the internet. Choosing before always helps me a lot when it comes to fast food.

Looks like everyone had problems standing up today! lol

I went to university this morning by bike! Yay! And I'm going to go again for another course tonight. That totals 13 miles / 1 hour of cardio! I'll try to do the strength exercises recommended on my page tonight when I'm at my parents house. I will drive home to my parents and stay there for the whole long weekend and work from home.

Tried no cook oatmeal for breakfast and it was horrible... Really... :( Has anyone an idea for a healthy oatmeal or a substitute?

Stay on track and have a nice day! =)

Gah, yesterday was horrible for me! I can tell that I really need to log everything the moment I eat it. That's fine with me though since I have an iPhone I should use the thing as a tool to help with my journey. Other than that I can't really explain why I totally lost my motivation yesterday. I did great until the kids wanted to visit Dairy Queen. LOL Wait, maybe that explains everything.

It's so nice this morning but it's also muggy as heck. The cat's in a tizzy over all the chipmunks and birds that congregate outside the windows here. I've had to pick her off the screen more than once already today. We don't let her outside because cats tend to go missing here and well, even if they didn't the number of ticks would sure keep me from letting her back in if she didn't have a collar on.

Okay, I am going to get a workout in now while I can't think of anything else to do to put it off! ;)

I did not get up at 5:15. Hubby decided to turn off the alarm when it went off so he could sleep until 6. I got up at 5:45 and worked out old school. Jump rope, push-ups, and sit ups. I forgot what a decent work out that is. I'll hopefully fit in my run tonight after the kids go to bed. Have a great day everyone!
