well I spent most of the day cleaning, preparing lesson plans for June, and getting classrooms ready for tomorrow:) I agree that protein helps in the am! I'm up early too and could eat a whole day's worth by NOON, lol. Didn't formally exercise, but think I made up for it scrubbing floors, walls, tables, chairs, etc,:) Hope all of you have a good rest of your night. I'm off to bed:) Be back in the am.

Thanks everyone! I will see what happens tomorrow. It's my Saturday and my eating is usually wonky. I went over my calories today because I couldn't keep myself from the smores the kids were having. I forgave myself though because it's a holiday and it wasn't too far over.

SNGinger, perhaps you could try to eat a breakfast that has more protein or more fibre?
I feel I'm longer satisfied when I eat protein for breakfast. For example scrambled eggs made with egg whites only and left over veggies in it (mushrooms, bell peppers, corn, what so ever) along with a glass of low fat milk or so?

Another breakfast I like to eat to prevent early hunger is pumpernickel with low fat ham, nonfat cream cheese and some fruits (nectarine, banana, apple, ...). It feels like the unprocessed seeds in the pumpernickel keep me longer satisfied.

Good morning people!

Yesterday was a good day for me. I learned a lot about myself. I'm definitely an emotional eater. Only not the depressed or angry kind. When I'm depressed or angry I stop eating. However, if I get nervous or bored, better hide the food because I'll be all in it.

If it hurts to breathe hard, maybe you could just take today to go at a slow pace and do some strength training?

SNGinger- maybe you should eat first thing when you wake up to get ready for work. I don't know what kind of cereal you're eating, but I know if I eat the "creampuff" (you know the kind, the stuff that's more fluff than stuff) I will eat in another hour. I eat frosted mini wheats with skim milk and a banana and I'm set for a few hours. Then I'll eat some nuts and dried fruit and I'm set then until lunch.

As for today's plans. I have a friend I haven't seen in YEARS coming for a quick visit and then it's more dancing with the lil man and I think I'll do some belly dancing today as well as my mile and some strength training.

So I decided to go out anyway despite not feeling well. Took the 2 little ones with me and we ended up walking nearly 5 miles. Decided to go to a different park and they enjoyed that. So did I. We're lucky that we have 4 parks to choose from with in 2 1/2 miles from the house. Keeps me motivated to keep changing our scenery.

Oh the morning hungers, they get me too. Here is what I have found that works best for me. PROTEIN!! Lots and lots of protein very 1st thing. I like to scramble 2 eggs and add diced lean ham, onion, bell pepper, and tomato and just a little bit of shredded cheddar cheese. It keeps me full. If I don't have ham I will cook up a couple of turkey sausage links and they are very good too.

Another great breakfast option is 1/4 cup reduced fat cottage cheese mixed with any kind of fruit you like. I love berries, any kind, cantaloupe and honeydew. I will eat 1 1/2 cups of fruit mixed with the cottage cheese and sprinkle it with ground flax seed and a little sprinkling of slivered almonds.

Both breakfasts will me up for 3-4 hours and sometimes I can't finish the fruit one because I get so full.

I don't think I am an emotional eater. My issue is more time based. It took forever for me to see it but it's there. I get up at 4:30 and I am ravenous! I try to hold off till I get to work and eat cereal at 6ish. Then by 8 I am starving again so I try to hold out till 9 and have a snack. (Of course I feel like I could eat a house) and then I have lunch at 11. At this point I am usually good till 2 when I get a twinge of "hey food sounds good." and then I don't really eat much for dinner at 6.

I feel very Hobbit with all of my first and second breakfasts and then elevenses of course. ;) I have been trying to make sure my snacks are healthy or at least low in calories.

This morning as I was leaving the house I was walking past a HUGE plate of oatmeal raisin cookies. I wanted one. I told myself it was okay to have one and then I thought wth am I doing!? and I walked out to my car. That was my proud of me moment for the day.

Hey there everyone!

Shelly, if you have to skip your workout because your lung aches too much, perhaps you could go for a (slow) walk instead? I'm sure the fresh air would help you getting better!

MOM6,CFRUIK76, emotional eating is a problem for me, too... As long as everything is okay emotionally I manage to exercise and to eat healthy, but as soon as the problems come up I get lazy and start eating. I really need people who calm me down and "put me back on track".

This was the first weekend with sparkpeople for me and it was very interesting. Friday was the first day I used the nutrition tracker and I ate what I normally do just to see "how wrong" I usually eat. I was shocked. Not only too many calories and fat, but also not enough vitamins and calcium! I tried to get a feeling for the portion size and for what to eat at all over the weekend and I'm pretty happy with the results (everything in range today and a lot more fresh products eaten), but it will take some time to get used to, I fear ://
Cardio wasn't scheduled this weekend for me, but I took a walk on saturday and played some Wii Fit every day. Today I did the first strength training the "my fitness" page recommended and I really liked it! Didn't take too long and wasn't too hard. Actually I felt quite good afterwards. But of course it took some time to get started ;-)
I'm about to do my cardio for today (again Wii Fit, but will try to go walking/running on wednesday) and will print the calendar for this week later. Although we haven't many drive-thru's and nearby parking opportunities in Germany there are good things to try! =)

I wish you all a good start for this week!

Good morning ladies (since I haven't seen any men posting)!

I've been MIA for a couple days. No real excuse, just not feeling it. I haven't been using my trackers, but also watching my portions (or at least that's what I'm telling myself). I'm definitely an emotional eater. Life has been chaotic lately, and without a set schedule, I can't focus. I'm hoping this week will get better. It's the last week of school for my girls, so once they get out, I can make better plans. Just gotta hang in there this week.

MOM6, I know all about emotional eating. I can't even begin to imagine how busy your life is with 6 kids?!?! Yikes! Hang in there!

Shelley, I always hated exercising after being sick. The lungs just aren't the same!! You'll get back to it.

Shelly - thanks for starting us out this am! I know all about emotional eating as I'm sure many women do. I went through a divorce after 13 yrs. of marriage, hence child #6 with my husband now of six yrs. who had no children of his own:), but ballooned after that too...I'm back within 22 lbs., but that 22 for me might as well be 500 as it is difficult for me to reset my body. I'm so glad your husband is feeling better...enough to run a marathon (good for both of you!) I hate to run but literally it is the best at getting weight off that I know of. Right now I'm sticking with the treadmill as I couldn't think about having to run the hill by my house cuz u have to go UP it to get anywhere, lol.
Following plan this am...printed the motivational calendar for June (good ideas there)...wishing all of you a great MEMORIAL DAY!! Cheers and blessings for YOU, today!!
OH forgot...goal for the week - eating a VARIETY of fruits and veggies instead of substituting with the same ole ones:)

Happy Memorial Day!

Got on the scale today. Hadn't been on since Friday, I'm shamelessly a scale watcher. It hadn't moved either direction despite eating out every meal for 2 days so I'm ok with that. I was worried despite having made very conscious choices. Tomorrow wll be 1 month on our new journey and I couldn't be happier about our progress.

My husband and I took our youngest 2 to the park yesterday. I tried jogging it but my cold has fully attacked my lungs and walking was even difficult. I may take today off from excersize, not completely sure. I hate taking a break when I have momentum.

So my husband informed me last night that he is thinking about training for a marathon. He hasn't run in nearly 9 years. He has 5 marathons under his belt but his knees got bad so he stopped. But now, with the program we have been on, he is feeling so good he thinks it may be time to try it again. I'm so very proud of him!

I'll stick to my 5k and Incline training. I'm no marathoner and have no desire to be. lol

Does anyone have a goal for the week? Mine is small, 8 glasses of water a day. I'm terrible about drinking water and I have to start doing better.

BTW: I had someone ask me about my profile picture. This was me 4 years ago before tragedy stuck our family. At about the same time, I found out I was pregnant with child #2 after trying for years and being in the process of an adoption. I became an emotional eater overnight and gained 90 lbs during the pregnancy. Then got pregnant with #3 just 7 month after baby #2 was born and I still didn't have a grip on my life. Then just a few months after #3 was born tragedy struck us again and I continued to eat and balloon. So the picture is a goal and a reminder to myself that I can do this and I can look like that again. I can be healthy and happy.
