Hello and Good Morning from MD!!!
'Tis a rainy, chilly start to this Tuesday here in MD... supposed to be in the 60's later today and then a wintry mix of snow tomorrow or the next day... go figure! Kind of like my weight loss journey... on again/ off again... I've been making too many excuses at the gym and have been cheating myself out of a healthy challenging lifestyle... giving in to too many weak moments! and... I am only cheating myself. So here I am sharing my struggles with you who I know 'get it'.
Tonight I WILL go to the gym and get my heart pumpin' and my sweat glands sweatin' !!!

Hello team!
I'm sorry I haven't been better about checking in... I have been having problems with internet access... it is crazy how dependent our society has become on being able to 'get online'.

I started out the year on a good note but have had a few medical issues pop up this month that pulled me away from the gym. With little to no exercise my eating has been more slack.
I am easing my way back into the gym this week and hope to get my full focus back on track in the next few days. I got a zumba fix in last evening and I truly believe that is why I am having a more productive day today than I have had in many weeks.

Happy New Year all!!!
Started back on program with eating right and exercise. Zumba Monday night, Tuesday night was body strength exercises: planks, abs, squats etc..., tonight is more Zumba and tomorrow is still more Zumba and personal training. I have dropped the enriched/ processed carbs... Deb, same things happen when I eat them... heartburn and weight gain!!!

Here's to 2017... let's drop some serious poundage!!!

My DH is using spark's food tracker these days and has really been focused on trying to eat healthier. It's making me feel a bit guilty that I haven't been tracking so we will be tracking together starting on Sunday with the New Year!! I'm excited about that and hope that it will help me to stay on plan better. I had lost 6 pounds in less than a week just my getting back to a gluten free diet. I blew it yesterday and the scale went up 3 pounds from one roll. NOT WORTH IT. Plus the heartburn really wasn't worth it either. There are way to many gluten free bad for me options though now that are actually starting to taste good. It's not a great thing but then again, maybe it will help me stay on plan if I know that I can add a few fried onions to my green beans instead of indulging in a full pan of traditional green bean casserole over 2 days. (No, I didn't really do that but boy did I want too emoticon )

Hopefully we will see some action around here again once the holidays are over.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all!!
I just don't know where the time is going... seems like the days are all rolling into one. Before I know it another week is gone and then a month and now a year! Wow! where did 2016 go???
2017... my goal is to stay focused and to really achieve some serious weight loss. Not sure why I think it will work this time, other than I am really feeling lousy and very aware of how lousy I feel, more often these days. I am going to use the SP tracker for the nutrition and exercise... I've tried several other options and none are as good as SP... I love this site!!!

Glad that your dad's surgery went well Jean.

Hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I can't believe that it has been almost 2 weeks since Thanksgiving. I have a bunch of stuff to do for the holidays and haven't even started it yet. Just trying to get through the next few days at the moment. Nothing major just have a final exam and a family birthday party to get through. Hoping to get some of the cleaning that keeps getting put off done as well this weekend.

I'm also afraid to weigh. I haven't been on the scale and I know that I have gained some weight back. emoticon

Hello team! What a month!!! Dad's surgery went very well and his rehab is going well also. It has been unbelievably crazy and I have been very hit and miss at work. I've been taking lots of time off with Mom and Dad... I have truly hit that middle age!!! Aging parents who need my help and I am the only one of their children in the area and still a very active Mom at home with 25, 22 and 15 year old daughters :) I would trade any of it for anything though... I am truly blessed.
I've been working with my doc on my weight... she is helping me get the fluid on my lower legs under control. First time in forever that I can actually feel the skin loose on my lower legs!
Our weather took a nose dive this week... the crazy storms from the Midwest hit the East Coast with 50+ mph winds this past Sat- Tues... wow!!! Crazy cold!!!!
Hope you all are having a super week and month!!! Now that things are settling down with the parents, I'm hoping to be back on here at least once a week :)
As for the eating... I am following a no junk carbs plan for Mon- Weds this week... it is amazing how much better I feel when I don't stuff my body full of junk... Like you said below Deb... Thanksgiving is a day of food and fun... Friday it is back to work on this weight loss!

LOL - I loved the Superbowl Shuffle too. These days - I avoid Football if possible. I'm not really a fan of American Football. I can handle soccer but my preference is Baseball and Basketball unless the Olympics are around and then it is swimming & gymnastics.

Ugh - tomorrow Chipotle is doing a bogof offer if you wear Cubs gear so :) I'm betting it will be dinner LOL.

Yay, Cubbies! I was born in Chicago although we moved to the suburbs when I was 3 and I now live in Missouri. My mom is more of a White Sox fan as she used to go watch them all the time. Personally, not much into sports but do enjoy seeing the "home" team win, especially after so many years. Loved the Bears during Superbowl 20. Well, loved the Bears doing the "Superbowl Shuffle" during Superbowl 20 season,

I don't really plan more than the day. I never know when I'll have left overs or be bringing something home from our restaurant. I just make sure I have healthy stuff in the house that I can throw together.

Hiya,
Thanks for the well wishes for my dad. He is doing amazing! He is in a rehab center this week and maybe next... working on building up his strength now that he has a strong heart again!!

Meals... yes, we usually plan out dinners... lunches I usually take dinner left overs and breakfast is usually a shake. Spark recipes are awesome! Found a good one for lasagna and for meatloaf that we are going to fix this week. Hubby also made some chicken noodle soup for the week.

I lost my streak I had going but will work on it again this week... I am a water drinker so that is usually not an issue for me... coffee in the morning with my shake and then I just have water the rest of the day...

Brand New Week -

Has anyone done any meal planning yet for this week? I am so bad at planning breakfast and lunches but dinners usually are easier. The planning part is easier - actually sticking to the plan is much harder. This week the goal is to eat at home at 3 times this week.

I also need to get back to tracking my water as I went to yet another dr that says I must just be getting dehydrated. I swear I am drinking during the day but I have stopped logging my water so now I need to prove it again. Ugh but a very necessary component of this healthy life right?

Hi all, sorry for the time away-- my Dad had open heart surgery last Friday. He needed his aortic valve replaced. It has been an insanely busy week! He is doing very well thank goodness! I'm so happy to see everyone chatting it up here! It is so nice to have our team alive again!

Won't be around the next two days. Heading to Kansas City with my mom as soon as we close the restaurant at 2 and won't be back until Monday sometime. My aunt is in visiting from California. She has grandkids and great-grandkids there so we are going to visit her and the rest of the family there. I haven't seen her grandkids since I was a teenager! Probably means won't get my steps in on Monday but still looking forward to the trip.

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all safe from Matthew.

I haven't been doing well. About three weeks ago I caught a viral infection from someone at work. Finally starting to feel a little better but have a cough I can't get rid of.

My eating is not too bad. I do better at home than when I'm at work but I'm trying to get through it.

I think I've finally managed to get rid of my pop/soda habit. I've had 2 since the end of August and both of them tasted awful. I now drink water or tea. I have one coffee a day in the morning but other than that it's water and tea.

Exercise has not been great lately because of the viral infection but I'm working on it. Plan on starting the treadmill in the next day or so once I'm feeling better.

How is everyone else doing. What kind of weather do you have? It's been snowing here for two days now and the grass is covered. So I guess no more walking outside.

Well I guess I better get some housework done while I'm feeling okay. Have a great weekend. It's Thanksgiving here so I get Monday off.

Jean: Same here. Hope you don't get too wet from Matthew. I know someone who lives in the Jacksonville, FL area so they will probably get a direct hit.

Not sure what I need to help me stay on track. I know checking in with SP helps but my main problem has been mild depression. That's why I gained back what I lost. Working on mood mostly right now.

Grateful for a somewhat flexible job when I need it and a spouse who does try to help me get where I want to be.

Eh - logging in is important, even if it is just to spin the wheel or track vitamins for me. I haven't been very active lately in the community and in the end it is funny because I have lost almost 40lbs since December, while not being as active on spark. I was hoping to have lost 52 this year and not sure that I am going to make it but I will be closer than in recent history.

Matthew will pass Jean and hopefully not leave you too drenched. One of my bosses leaves on a Bahamas cruise tomorrow, haven't heard the alternate destination yet. Hopefully it is somewhere good.

Thank you Char! We are having beautiful weather so far this week also... love it!!! However... hurricane Matthew is going to make things quite wet and windy towards the end of this week... I live in Western MD, so I won't get it as bad as the coast, but we will get some of him...

Another thought... how can we stay committed to this program when our lives are spinning out of control?
For me, I need to log in daily and at minimum, spin the wheel, log some food and check in here....

I was having a "good eats day" until I just went to a gathering for a promotion ceremony and there was cheesecake and regular cake... I had a piece of both and now I feel horrible... my head is fuzzy and I am carb crashing. ugh!!! but, this was good for me to do... I need to remind myself of how eating crappy makes me feel!

Been tracking on paper this week. Has helped a lot as it has kept me from snacking because I would "see" that I had. Not tracking for calories, just quality/quantity/type of food. I don't want to have to track in a tracker the rest of my life but I can handle writing down on paper what I eat to make sure I am eating a balanced, healthy diet.

This whole weight loss thing is a full time job... we are constantly bombarded by not good for us food and temptations of relaxing instead of doing a work-out... everyday is a new opportunity for us... why is it that each one of these days we are faced with the same challenges... wouldn't it be nice if there was an easy formula to follow???

Hi Cheryl - Good to 'see' you.

My week is not going as planned either. Hoping that this is just end of the month craziness and not a glimpse into October. We aren't even that busy at work - I just procrastinated on a bunch of stuff and now am off kilter.

I will say this - I cleaned out the top drawer of my little freezer completely - including wiping up all the crud that accumulates there over time. Now to get the bottom portion cleaned out enough to clean it. I was even surprised that DH put the ice container through the dishwasher without even having to ask emoticon


Eating today has been all kinds of crazy - I had a package of Buddig Beef, some cucumber slices with Tazazki (sp), 2 strawberries and some fruit snacks for lunch. Dinner was a small bag of peanuts and a half serving of dark chocolate covered gluten free pretzels. Yup - I'm writing today off as one of those days. Tomorrow will have to be better. At least I ate some meat (all though not the greatest or healthiest at all) for the first time since Sunday emoticon Definitely not helping my iron issues.

Hi Team! I've been slacking in all parts of my life and it shows. I opened up sparkpeople usually every 3 months thinking I'm gonna start again, and all I end up doing is changing up my sparkpage to follow the seasons. I changed it yesterday for fall and today saw in my mail that we wanted to get this team up and running again...So HERE I AM!

Great to hear from you ladies!
I had a crazy week as well! Started with Mom having eye surgery on Mon, then my godmother passed away last Sat and her funeral was on Weds, then went to our county fair Weds evening- very long exhausting day in the middle of a long week!
Trying to get my planning straight for this coming week now 😊

I've done much better the past couple of days because I have been tracking. Mostly just on paper so I can see what I've eaten. Not so worried about calories, just balanced, healthy diet and not over-eating.

Time and what I perceive as a lack of it is always the challenge. I need to plan better and then actually follow through with it. This week was a write off but next week will be better.

We have twin 15 year boys coming to stay tonight and tomorrow - we are going to the Cubs/Cards game and they are Cardinals fans. Should be interesting. I'm scrambling to finish the cleaning and just taking a break at the moment.

I used the nutrition tracker yesterday and stopped myself from snacking last night!!! emoticon
I am feeling less bloated and puffy since giving up the cereal... I did get the sinus crud around the same time though... so I am still fighting that.

It is all about commitment... making a daily commitment to check in here and to check my own actions. I am the only person who can make the change... I know I want it bad enough, so now I need to do my daily/ hourly reminders of this...

Giving up the cereal made a difference last week! Actually down 6lbs on the scale!!! emoticon

Now to get this weight off once and for all!

my biggest challenge is using the nutrition tracker on a regular basis... I will try to do this for one whole day at least 3 x this week... wish me luck!!!

My food enemy is gluten & wheat. I've discovered that I have to be gluten free as difficult as it is. It has made a huge difference in my GERD and my water retention. I had physical evidence of a food allergy when I had a scope 2 years ago. The longer I stay gf the greater reaction now when I slip.

My other one is candy. If I don't start, I can stay away but once I start I tend to keep grabbing it everyday.

Brand new week - make it a good one!

YES!!! It is good to be back here again!!! I never really left SP... I just didn't use the tools that were here...

Ice cream is definitely another downfall of mine! My hubby has a really bad habit of eating it every night... he has finally stopped asking if I wanted him to buy it at the store for me! I have been eating the skinny cows... they are pretty good and hit the spot.

I was a soda pop addict up until my early 40s... I eventually got to the point that I was only drinking it if we were out or travelling... I had a serious diet Mt. Dew addiction!!! I finally quit drinking it all together about 2 years ago... now all I drink is water and coffee and my shakes.

I would love so much to get this weight off once and for all. I just need to accept the things I cannot change... but Change the things I can such as choosing better nutrition and exercise options!!!

I'm here. It's good to see some activity again.

My food enemy?: Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream. I got bad this summer because my step-son was out and he loves the stuff. But of course, he's skinny, he's actually underweight. Ate way too much of that stuff and ended up putting on 15 lbs. I've managed to lose about 5 of it.

My other food enemy is pop. I've done good for the past month I only had one and it didn't taste very good.

We also got lazy over the summer about not going for our walks so we've started that again. I watch my weight so that I don't start gaining it all back. I've managed to keep off over 100 lbs for 2 years now.

For those of you struggling, YOU CAN DO IT! I reached 2 or 3 years ago and it's a great feeling. I'm at about 170 right now and need to get back into the 160s or even just under that.

This weekend going to concentrate on getting my 10,000 steps or maybe even 15,000. Most days as long as we walk I get just over 10,000. Right now we are walking outside when it is nice because pretty soon we'll have that ugly white stuff (SNOW) and it doesn't go away until April some time.

Well I better get back to work, I stuck on at work. Have a great afternoon.

So, how is everyone doing this week?

I'm working the program this week. I have decided that as much as I absolutely LOVE cereal (one brand in particular), it has become my enemy emoticon .
When I eat it, it tastes so good, but then it hangs with me for 2-3 days and I notice that I hold on to fluid like crazy. So, this week, I have not had any cereal and I am noticing that I am constantly emptying my bladder and I think I have actually dropped about 3-4 lbs of water weight!!!

What is your food enemy?

That is so awesome Melissa!!! I am stuck in the 260-280 range... I go up and down in this range over and over and over again.
I work out doing Zumba 4x a week, I do a HIIT (high intensity interval training), a core training and work with a personal trainer.

I try to watch my carb intake... I know these are my downfall... I got stuck in a cereal zone for the past few months and started eating way too much of it, so this week I am not eating any and focusing on eating clean.

This is a forever process!!! emoticon
