Good morning or afternoon everyone.

Welcome to the newbie.

Roxy--sorry to hear about your Mom. I will keep you in prayers. You have lots of good memories to treasure.

Is it too late to get on a team???

Went to see my in-laws this weekend. My mother in law is still in the hospital, Lots going on, She is doing better though so thank you for your prayers. If you wouldn't mind please keep my husband in prayers. He tends to keep all of these to himself so it;s a sticky difficult situation.

I will need to read more from everyone I just quickly scanned so I will try to chatter with you later. Have a good day.

Cheryl

Mitochondria is my latest interest....fascinating!

The Mitochondria: The Cell's Dynamos
What are mitochondria, what are their functions and why are they so important? These tiny cellular structures specialize in energy production, but also play a role in aging, cancer, cell death, and degenerative diseases. Virtually all the energy needed for you to go about your daily life ultimately derives from the mitochondria.
The mitochondria are dynamos encased inside double membranes. The outer one communicates with the cell, and the inner membrane contains machinery capable of converting food (glucose) to adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a chemical form of energy. ATP combines with specific enzymes to perform different forms of work - for example muscle contraction. The number of mitochondria per cell varies widely. Muscle cells of an athlete may contain over 4,000 per cell, whereas those of a less active cell can number one-tenth to one-twentieth of that number.
These energy-producing dynamos are highly efficient but not perfect. While converting food to energy, they leak small quantities of toxic chemical substances, known as free radicals. Free radicals are akin to radioactive particles in that both are highly reactive and capable of damaging genetic material (DNA) and other critical cellular components.
Fortunately, our bodies have evolved means to neutralize the bulk of these toxic products before they damage the cell. This protective process is also not perfect. Invariably, some damage is inflicted on the cell over time. The mitochondria themselves are the initial target of attack simply because of proximity. The consequence of this damage to the mitochondria is initially small, but cumulative over time.

Thus has emerged an interpretation called the Mitochondrial Theory of Aging. This theory asserts that aging is the product of cumulative damage to the cell by the release from the mitochondria of small amounts of tissue-damaging toxic substances. The damaged mitochondria produce even greater amounts of free radicals, and are less efficient in producing energy. The accumulated damage to the mitochondria, and also to other cellular components, finally destroys the cell. The mitochondria are a classic example of a Catch 22. They are necessary for energy production but ultimately cause aging and death.
What does all this mean for healthy aging? Recent evidence indicates that the energy efficiency of the mitochondria is a critical factor in aging. The individual who exercises and maintains a healthy, highly nutritious, but low-calorie diet is likely to have more efficient mitochondria. It appears that consumption of calories in excess of what the body requires for full function, interferes with mitochondrial energy-producing machinery. In essence, an imbalance between fuel intake and energy output gums up the energy-producing machinery. This condition, the over-fed state, leads to both inefficient energy production and an increase in the release of toxic by-products - not to mention the social stigma of being overweight.
Obviously, an important step to promote mitochondrial health is to consume and burn an equal number of calories each day. This can be done through exercise and a diet high in nutritional value (see the September Juvenon Health Journal for dietary recommendations). Recent findings indicate this simple approach maximizes energy efficiency. When energy efficiency is optimal, mitochondrial decay is minimal. But the decay does continue as we age, albeit at a lower level. Besides exercising and maintaining an appropriate diet, is there anything else we can do about it?
Recently published research indicates that damaged mitochondria present in the aged animal can be at least partially corrected through a diet supplemented with specific natural compounds. A combination of two compounds, acetyl-L-carnitine and alpha lipoic acid, has been shown in animal studies to reverse age-associated mitochondrial damage. (See the Science section of the Juvenon.com web site). The effect of these compounds is to restore some of the mitochondrial components lost, perhaps as a result of accumulated damage, and to convert old, inefficient mitochondria to a more youthful level. These developments are encouraging, since they indicate we may be able to improve our energy levels, and the overall health of our bodies through proper nutrition, regular exercise, and supplementing the diet with specific compounds.

Food Sources
What foods provide this nutrient?
Food sources of lipoic acid are not well researched. In general, however, two categories of lipoic acid-containing foods have been identified.
Green Plants: The first category includes green plants which have a high concentration of chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are key spots for energy production in plants, and they require lipoic acid for this activity. For this reason, broccoli, spinach, and other green leafy vegetables like collard greens or chard are food sources of lipoic acid.
Animal Foods: Animal foods constitute the second category of lipoic acid sources. Once again, the cell's energy production mechanisms are involved. Mitochondria are critical energy production spots in animal as well as plant cells, and the main location for finding lipoic acid. Body tissues with lots of mitochondria (like the heart, liver, kidney, and skeletal muscle) are good spots for finding lipoic acid, so consumption of these foods (for example, calf's liver or round steak) also provides lipoic acid. Yeast has also been shown to contain this vital nutrient.

Hi Everyone----

I've missed a lot, but my mom died on Dec. 26, she wasn't really ill but having some problems. She spent all day Christmas and went home not feeling well--just tired, she said. The next morning I found her on her dining room floor, but she was already gone. We've been working on clearing out her apartment~~what a job. I'm still having bad days BUT I really need to get on with my "new" life.

I would like to join a team~~~~get me started, I'll probably be a little slow at 1st~~ I need to get back to concentrating on myself. My brain doesn't seem to grasp things too quickly, lately~~I'm still a bit overwhelmed with all I'm doing.

Love ya, All ~~~Roxie

Good Sunday morning, friends!

Yay Purple Team! Let's get our templates signed on!!! We start TODAY!

Chris, thanks for the great new ideas....I put them all on the template with the rules. I tweaked them a bit--I put last chance workout for Sat/Sun. I also wrote it in a way that we are all winners--no losers. We need to keep that delicate self esteem in a good place!

Now, Let's get going!!! Lots of fun! Now, should we flip a coin for the next new person??? hehehe Of course, that is assuming that all 8 OWs want to participate in "OW Biggest Loser"? Who is with us???

Chris, that is funny about the feet! I like Gouda also, but don't think I'd like it with anything but maybe a cracker. Did I miss the date your daughter is getting married? Did they set one yet? How exciting! Is she allowing you to participate in the planning? Details!

I was so hungry that I had to take a day off. So, I did! I think I just didn't eat enough last week, but I really, really wanted to see 249 light up on that scale!!! Yay! I haven't seen that number in a long, long time, like 14 years or so. So last night, I got out some more old clothes to try on....

I know I should get some work aroun the house done, but I really want a day off!!!! So, we'll see how the day unfolds....

Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

emoticon emoticon Let's go Purple Team!!! Woot Woot!!!

Happy Sunday OW Friends!

I posted my starting weight in the green team thread - come on Cindy, Leslie and Trent - join me!

Hey purple team - get posting! Syn, Debbi, Ma and Char are you ready for a little competition!?

Yesterday was a success - I even had enough leftover carbs to have a glass of wine. Today I made eggs with spinach and smoked gouda - sounds yummy but I didn't enjoy it. Tasted like feet! Not that I've tasted feet, but I imagine that is what they would taste like! I think I will stick to eating my smoked gouda plain!

I did the elliptical for 30 minutes yesterday - my new goal for the week. That and remembering to do my modified crunches (failed yesterday). I will try to do that today.

It's another cold and sunny day today. My daughter went back to school last evening so today my plan is to get all the cat hair out of my house from her cat - I love her kitty but can do without the hair - and her paw prints all over my end tables from trying to look out the windows!

I'm going to put my thinking cap on about the rules for Biggest Loser. I think we should alternate who's weight doesn't count for uneven teams - but not tell that person until after weigh ins - like a random drawing. That way every tries 100% all the time! I think you can get free random name generators online. I know I have a template for it from Kagan for randomly choosing students at school. I wouldn't mind being the one to say who's weight doesn't count that week since that is a fair way.

I think each member of the losing team has to send a spark goodie to the winners with a note of congratulations.

We should all come up with a "last chance" workout where we commit to extra exercise one day of the week.

I will create a "Biggest Loser Champion" image that the winners can upload and use as their profile picture for a month. Then have to take it down and have to earn it in the next quarter. Every quarter we should mix the teams up to keep it fresh. What do you think?

I'm so excited!

Hey all

We skipped the IceCream Social this evening...it was like 55 degrees. I have like my long johns on with a sweat shirt...BBbbrrrrrrr!.
We did stop and have lunch at a Sport's Bar, after a little shopping at Tangers Mall.
I went to Lane Bryant Store. The Clerk ask me if I wanted a charge card. I said No, I only come here cuz I can wear your smallest size. I was hoping I could of been outta here 5 yrs ago. I suppose I should make that a challenge this year.

I went to the Bank Thursday on my Bike. I probably covered 5 Miles on my Bike. I come home and couldn't find my card holder which carried my life. I called the bank and left messages, but they were closed. i did cancel a couple of credit cards. I was hoping to hear from the Bank Friday morning. I went in about noonish, but they said they hadn't seen or found anything. I waited for the lady that had helped me Thursday and we closed out my new debit card. She no more than got it done and a guy came in with my card holder. The cleaners had obviously found it and put it in an empty office with a note.
Well, I was tickled that they were found, but I still have to mess around with credit cards.

Gotta scooot. Need to check a TV schedule for sister. I will be back tomorrow. MA

Okay guys, the threads are set up for OW BL. Please let me know if we need any changes on these 4 threads to start....

Now, we need to decide on the rules:

1. Right now our teams are uneven (I only added those who posted they wanted to join). So since we have 3 and 2, how can we make it fair?? I'm sure we will have uneven people throughout the quarter. So, what if we made it that the last person signed up numbers don't count in the total on the team. When the teams become even (3/3), then all 3 on each team will count on the team total. The person who is uneven can still post, just not be counted in the total until both are even. Does that sound fair?

2. Should we have a cutoff date for posting so that the team can post the totals? If so, what day? Penalties? Ooh, ooh, we could add one pound penalty for each day they are late! Oh, my....

3. Once numbers are posted, the final total can be posted to the Daily Chatter thread? Do we need a place to post weekly totals, or I can just post an announcement where I put the running weeks?

4. Prizes?

5. Other ideas for it?

6. Any changes on the template?

Hey, Chris, yes, I will add the formula,

But, the bad news is I don't think I can change the name of the thread, can I Cindy?? I looked for an edit right after I did it, but didn't see anything. It will stay on the #4 position if people post to it regularly though. Sorry. When I first set it up, I didn't think the first one took, and hit the button again, so I got 2 with the same name.....

Syn - can you add the word CHAT to the last thread and can you add the following formula to all the templates so people can figure out their percentage lost? Loss in pounds divided by starting weight times 100.

For example if you weigh 250 pounds and you lost 3 pounds your percentage would be 3 divided by 250 times 100 which would equal 1.2%

How about:

Green Team - Chris, Cindy, Leslie, Trent

Purple Team - Syn, Debbi, MA, Char

I just guessed so if someone wants to move them around that's okay with me too. I'm so excited to start!

Hey, Chris,

GREAT IDEA!!! LOVE IT!!

I set up 4 new threads by quarter on the main general team discussion forum. The templates can be changed. The idea is to post template info only on the sticky topic thread by teams (green and purple--I was going to do pink, but guys may not like being on a pink team! hahaha) And I made a chat thread for each team.

Now we need to divey up the teams fairly. So far, we have Chris, Cindy, Deb, Leslie and me.

So, if we do it by weight so it's fair, here is what we can begin with, then you can take a look and see if we need to change it up:

249-264 Chris/Syn/Debbi/Cindy
178-216 Leslie/Ma/Trent/Char

So, we need two people from each weight group above on each team to be fair, right? I took the weights from the latest weigh in, which some do not include this week, but it would probably be only off by a couple of pounds. Those above are the only people who are posting so far on Shred.

So when the other OWs show interest, we can add them, then divide the teams. Chris, since you had the great idea and you are the teacher (hehehe), do you want to divide the teams as fairly as you can?

I'll send out a message to the other OWs who have been posting recently and see if they have interest so we can begin TODAY!!! Using the weigh in from today. As we get new members, we can add them 2 at a time. Also, we can change teams up as we need to as new people come on. We can write up the rules as we go--who has got ideas on the rules we want to use???

Then, where do we want to post the winnning team every week?

I'm liking this....

Hey Syn I've been thinking about what you said about a challenge. What do you think of doing two biggest loser teams and weigh in each week and figure out percentages? We could find out how many of us OWs want to do it, divide into two teams, and then each week when we post to a Biggest Loser thread we could figure out the weight loss percentages for each team? It would motivate me to keep going because I wouldn't want to bring our team down. Even if there's only four of us it would be fun and motivating.

If you like the idea we could put a new thread on the main page and people could have a week to sign up for it. Then we divide up and begin weigh ins. We just have one post for each team (like we do for ourselves in the 5 pound shred) and we add our current weight each week at check in.

Just an idea - I'd love some more accountability and having someone depend on me is pretty good motivation.

Morning OWs!

Posted my numbers and I lost 2 lbs this week! WooHoo!! Of course being ill kinda did that but I at least kept it off. Still resting a little between chores and such since I tend to go overboard when I first get well (yesterday) and now I’m in need of a little rest to. Still recovering. It’s cold and cloudy here in Chicago land; 14 right now. We had a low of 6 last night with -8 with the wind chill. Dogs have been loving the snow! Once it got cleared off of the streets and a nephew shoveled the driveway, it was ok. Neighborhood kids are having a blast!

Chris – I didn’t laugh at your score at all! And how you handled things that you ate and what you did before/during was a perfect picture of what to do. Keep that up. I guess it just takes extra thinking and planning. You sure have the determination!

Leslie – nice that you connected everything all up. Keep up the good work!

Hi Char!

Syn – already posted the numbers this morning! And I like your idea about a little extra help. Don’t have any ideas at the moment but I like it and will participate.

Gotta go and get ready for getting some chores done. Have a fun day everyone!

Good morning OWs!

Interesting that it is expected that Paula Deen will announce that she has diabetes. I feel for her as I know how hard it is for me to keep out of the butter. If I had a cooking show, I know it would be really tough! It would be great if she put out a cookbook on skinny but very tastey recipes! It is said that 1 in three Americans are diagnosed with diabetes. Scary!

Chris, my favorite way to cook kale is to sautee it with sliced garlic and onions. Then add 1/2 cup of chicken broth, cover 5 minutes, and yumo!

Tops, all that support is wonderful! It's all I can do on here to read and post....I don't know how you do it!

Char, enjoy your easy weekend!

Deb, how are you weathering all that snow??? Feeling any better?

Happy Saturday!

It is a beautiful, sunny, but cold day here in Northern Virginia - a brisk 24 degrees. I plan to use my elliptical this morning.

Bowling last night was fun. I broke 100 every game! Woo hoo! Real bowlers are shaking their head with pity for me - but considering my average last year was 68, I am starting off with a bang! I made excellent choices last night as well. I ate some cheese, nuts, and raw veggies before I left and while there I drank 40 ounces of water and ordered a salad. I'm a little sore today from the exercise. I was up 3 times to use the potty, but hey, that's the price of drinking water!

Today will be relaxing and productive - exercise, shower, shopping, cleaning and one last visit with my girl before she heads back to college this evening. What are you guys and gals up to today? I'll check back later - I'm going to look for a good kale recipe now!

Afternoon friends!

Lunchtime checkin....

I just realized that four of us OWs are from one pound to twelves pounds from each other!! So here is my challenge to you other three--AND you know who you are! hahaha

Let's find a way to help each other push through the personal challenges we all struggle with, and make some great progress this first quarter of the year? Who's got some good ideas to help us post some great numbers??? I think we all have some great motivation right now. What do you think? If you don't have any ideas or don't want to participate in this, no worries. We can just continue on with what we are doing. I just know that there is strength in numbers, and I'm so ready to get to onederland!!!! If we can work hard this first quarter, I think it will help keep our year moving along even if it is just maintenance!!!

Now, there are several of you around the 200 mark....if you want to do the same.....just thinkin....

Good Morning OWs!

Feeling great today and anxious to get the things done that I couldn't while sick. Then we got hit with the 1st snow storm of the season dumping about 5" of snow with drifts. It wasn't too bad driving in today since the plows are out. The dogs absolutely love, love, love it!! I love seeing them play in the snow. The spaniel mix jumps like deer in it!

I'm not sure how good I did this week but I feel very good today and back to pretty much normal. This weekend I'll be cleaning and doing stuff around the house. In the late afternoon we have a birthday party for one of the nieces who turns 18 and there is always healthy stuff to eat (along with other stuff!) but enough that I will have good choices to make. On Sunday it's church, dinner with mom and resting some. And of course the NFL Play-offs.

I'll check in later. Have a great day!

Good Morning OW's & Happy Friday to you!!!

Does anyone have anything fun or exciting planned for the weekend?

As for me - NOTHING - so happy to be able to say that....Church on Sunday is the only sure thing in my agenda!

My weigh-in is in the morning - I'm excited to see how I've done - no, that's not exactly worded correctly, I know how I've done - I've done well - I'm just anxious to see if how well I've done translates to the numbers!

TRENT, so glad you are feeling back 100%

How about you DEB? Tummy issues all resolved yet?

What have you done today to make you feel proud?

Thank you to each of you for the prayers. My MIL finally agreed to do dialysis. Still don't know where the bleeding is coming from or at least no one has told us. Have an enjoyable weekend. I lost 0.2 pounds this week and that is okay I had to go back on my predinsone so that is not bad. I am again on track. Next week it will be better.

Ok I am post all of the entire Prevention 14 days snacks so it's all in one post.

Hello there my Wonderful Friday Friends!

What are your weekend plans? What can you do to make them fit successfully into your new healthy eating program? Any exercise planned?

Tonight starts couples bowling. I am taking my own snacks and a huge water bottle - no cheese fries or pizza or beer for me!

Saturday I have no plans - just cleaning up the house and sending out the "save the dates" for my daughters wedding. We will also be packing her up to go back to college for her final semester - boy did time fly by!

Sunday I have no plans either - other than church of course. So there should be no excuses for me about not exercising and/or planning my meals properly!

My weigh in day is today.....drum roll please.....down 2 more pounds! Yay! If I can do that every week, a happy girl I will be!

I will check back in later - thanks for the saurkraut info SYN. It is an aquired taste - I grew up with it - both my parents and grandparents made their own in barrels every year to can. I can remember helping my dad to "salt" them and the hours it took (and smell in the house) to get them all canned for the season. Good times - I wish I had property that I could do a huge garden and "put up" my bounty for the season. CINDY W - that's why I am so jealous of your gardens! I have to stick to pots on the deck so the deer can't get at them. Any way, why am I dreaming of spring gardens and summer harvests? Oh yeah, saurkraut - thanks for the walk down memory lane SYN! xo

Since I don't like Sauerkraut, but have read about the health benefits for years, I made up this recipe this week--pretty tasty for sauerkraut!:

1 jar sauerkraut
1 small onion chopped (can substitue celery)
2 small or 1 tomato diced
1 T oregano *or to taste)
1/4 t red pepper or cayenne
(You can add any other veggies you like: red peppers, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes--I'm going to try new ones every week!

(I made it a second time and used Menudo, which can be found at the Mexican section or store. There are two kinds of Menudo, get the one with oregano in it.

SAUERKRAUTS SPECIFIC HEALTH BENEFITS

Sauerkraut as immune booster
One of the not so secret benefits of sauerkraut is the boost it gives to immune systems. Packed with vitamins andminerals, sauerkraut has been used as a lay immune booster for centuries.Sauerkraut contains phytochemicals which are created during the fermentation process. These naturally occurring, beneficial by products of sauerkraut help boost the immune system which leads to a decrease in a number of health problems. The common cold, skin problems, weight gain and tainted blood are all fixed by a healthy functioning immune system.

Sauerkraut as cancer fighter
The most recent evidence of sauerkraut's status as a Superfood is found in numerous studies on the cruciferous wonder's cancer fighting properties. The results of a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry concluded that sauerkraut is a cancer inhibitor. The study discovered that the fermentation of cabbage produced a substance called isothiocynates, which prevents cancer growth, particularly in the breast, colon, lung and liver. Although raw cabbage is normally rich in a compound called glucosinolate, the researchers found that during the fermentation process enzymes are released that completely decompose the compound into several breakdown products. The majority of these products are cancer-fighting isothiocyanates. The University of New Mexico published a study linking sauerkraut consumption by adolescent females to a reduced risk for breast cancer earlier studies indicate sauerkraut may reduce the risk for other forms of cancer including lung, colon, prostate, and liver We are finding that fermented cabbage could be healthier than raw or cooked cabbage, especially for fighting cancer, says Eeva-Liisa Ryhanen, Ph.D., research manager of MTT Agrifood Research Finland, located in Jokioinen, Finland. A recent study by the American Center for Cancer Research has found that sauerkraut has a profound effect in preventing and healing breast cancer. Based on reports that breast cancer rates amongst polish women in the United States were much higher than those in Poland researchers set out to find out why. Their answer; the women who still lived in Poland ate significantly larger amounts of sauerkraut especially important while they were in adolescence. The research found that the women who immigrated Americanized' their diets and stopped eating as much of the super food that is sauerkraut thus increasing their rates of breast cancer.

Digestive Aid
Eating sauerkraut is a great way to protect the balance of bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract. Sauerkraut is one of the few foods that contain the bacterium Lactobacilli plantarum. L. planatarum is a very dominant strain of healthful bacteria which helps your digestive system in the following ways: boost the immune system by increasing antibodies that fight infectious disease help inhibit pathogenic organisms including E.coli, salmonella and unhealthy overgrowth of candida (yeast) create antioxidants (glutathione and superoxide dismustase) that scavenge free radicals which are a cancer precursor transforms hard-to-digest lactose from milk to the more easily digested lactic acid. It neutralizes the antinutrients found in many foods including the phytic acid found in all grains and the trypsin-inhibitors in soy generates new nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, digestive aids and the trace mineral GTF chromium. These various properties are the best scientific reasons given for what has been known by loyal users for millennia, sauerkraut cures an upset stomach and is the best natural physic there is. Many sources say raw fermented foods are beneficial to the digestive system by increasing the healthy flora in the intestinal tract or creating the type of environment for them to flourish. Sauerkraut and its juice are traditional folk remedies for constipation. Fermentation actually increases nutrient values in the cabbage, especially vitamin C. Fermented foods are also said to facilitate the breakdown and assimilation of proteins. They have a soothing effect on the nervous system. The benefits of sauerkraut and sauerkraut juice have been recognized for generations. In some families of southern Germany, the children are fed raw sauerkraut twice weekly to support their intestines. Today it is thought that these benefits may relate to a high proportion of lactic acid in sauerkraut and sauerkraut juice that naturally supports the digestive processes, maintain intestinal flora, and increase the feeling of well-being.

Flu Fighter
With the spread of Avian Flu spreading across the globe, one enterprising Korean scientist, Kang Sa-Ouk of Seoul National University, took 13 chickens infected with avian flu virus and a couple of other diseases, fed them Kim chi extract and found that 11 of the birds recovered. Experts think the vital bacteria are created during the fermenting process and this gives the dish its health-boosting qualities.

Cheryl: Don't go to zumba expecting to be perfect at it the first time. It is going to take a few times before you are familiar with most of the moves. And also, the instructor will be regularly changing songs so all attending will be "learning" some songs. Just enjoy and have fun!

Taking today off exercise. Tomorrow will be another Zumba/ab workout day.

I am thankful for my health.

Today my stomach feels 100%. My appetite is still pretty low, but that's OK. I'm close to hitting the minimum of my calorie range.

The midweek shows potential for weight loss, but it's inconclusive given the circumstances. I'm hoping for 199.x on Saturday

I upped the exercise ante this morning. 20 minutes on the elliptical and three rounds of leg exercises weight up to pre-stomach virus levels.

Tomorrow I will shoot for upper body.

Did a Coach Nicole 5 minute beginners abs workout this morning. I hope to move to a more intermediate one soon.

Good afternoon OW friends!

Thankful Thursday...today I am thankful for our moderate weather here in CA. We normally have much colder days with LOTS of rain! One January it rained EVERY day. Because of our moderate weather this winter, I joined the gym and am enjoying good exercise several times per week. With that said, it is supposed to rain Monday....but! I cut my hair off very short all over (kinda same on top just shorter) and the back covers my neck. (Can't have the sun burning me). So it hardly takes any time to dry now that I had her thin thin thin it!!! It used to take an hour and then it was still damp.

Cheryl, so sorry to hear bout your MIL. Prayers for her, you and your family.

Cindy, WooHoo! Size 16 here you come! Won't be long now!!!

Chris, I know what you mean. I started trying to eat only whole food--no processed food. I even try to not use those packets like hidden ranch dressing for my taco soup--I found powdered buttermilk, and I'm making my own mix now. And, several others like that. Most of those weird names of stuff, I have no idea what it is. I'm convinced that is what is causing most of the illness we have now. Also, all the soft drinks and microwaving! One of my friends is a nurse with a masters. She is also a nutritionist, has always eaten VERY healthy only whole foods, is on the thin side. No junk. BUT, she microwaved her food DAILY. She had breast cancer last year.....Since I bought my convection/toaster oven at Costco ($60), I rarely use the microwave.

Chris, I meant to tell you about those bars from TJs, I'm going to investigate the sugar number verses the sugar alcohol number. I think there must be a distinction. They really help on a busy day, but I am not losing weight as fast by eating them....I need to come up with a lower carb treat for the car...

Hi to everyone else....back to work...

Good Afternoon OW's & Happy Thankful Thursday to you!!!

This week I am so thankful for my Mom, she sent over two large bags of hand-me-down clothing last night....all size 16, so I've got something to shoot for! My Mom is such a treasure and one of my best friends!

CHERYL, praying for your MIL.

Happy Thankful Thursday Friends!

Today I am thankful for my naturopath and that I found her. I was skeptical at first because I was a big proponet of saying "I know what to do, I just need to do it!" and after talking to her every couple of weeks I am learning more and more each time - and guess what? Maybe my old way of thinking was keeping me from success instead of helping me achieve it. Low fat doesn't equal healthier for you. They replace the fat with some form of chemical or most often sugar to make it taste better. Sugar is my enemy now - not fat. I will let my results speak for themselves. I've tried everything else so I've got nothing to lose but weight!

Cheryl - I've sent up prayers for your MIL that they find the source of her bleeding and kidney trouble and that she finds comfort and peace during this trying time.

Debbi - so glad you are feeling better today!

Well, off to prepare for my kids return from PE class! I'll be back later! xo

Hi Everyone – emoticon

Just checking in to see how everyone’s doing. I’m doing ok and still eating light tonight.

Chris – I can just FEEL your excitement, enthusiasm and joy through your postings. Keep up, girl! I know you can do this.

MA – nice job on the exercise you are getting

Trent – nice determination to get back into exercise. I’m going to start tomorrow with some light stuff also.

Cynthia – I think my hubby got my peddler at Walgreens also (or maybe Walmart, can’t remember). I use it for both legs and arms. And you are right about it being a simple thing to do watching tv. I also do it reading in the morning.

Syn – I don’t know if anyone answered this yet but the only way to see individual food fiber (and other added tracking) is to select the See Today’s Full Report. That’ll give you the entire breakdown. I use that quite often. Nice job on keeping us updated with ideas!

Hi Cheryl, Leslie, Char!!

I may not be back later tonight but definitely in the AM! xxoo

Hi Friends! I didn't think I'd ever be able to get on here today!

My NSV is that I am back in control again. For 9 long months I felt myself spirialing out of control but that is over now and I am back in the pilot seat.

Eating today has been great. Now just need to figure out dinner - something with turkey and eggplant I think!

Check in later tonight, I hope! Love ya! xo

Hi All

It is somewhat of a dreary day in SW FL. It was suppose to rain, but hasn't so far. I worked out 2 hrs on the WII Fit Plus. I got in 2 hrs of pool exercises yesturday.

I am kind of the chief cook around here and trying to watch both the calories and the sodium. I leave the bottle washing up to my sister.....it is a fair exchange as far as I am concerned.

Thursday She has a knitting class, and Friday she goes to Lunch & Book Club plus a movie. This will be my exercise time. Saturday, there is an IceCream Social and we both plan on attending. Our icecream treat for the month because I am not buying any for the freezer. We did skip the potluck last Saturday. I wish I could get her to join here, but she isn't much of a computer buff...she just reads her e-mail.

I do have another sister I have tried to get on here for years, but she doesn't want to put her weight anywhere on the internet.......so you know she has to be in trbl.

Not sure what I am going to do about the house thing yet. I am kind of tired of looking at houses unless I can do it from my computer . I do like where I am at, but there does come times when one should make changes in their lives.
I really don't think I am ready, unless my DD is here to encourage or coax me a little.
The whole situation is a little finacially complicated too, so think I will let it rest for a bit.

Ok I am off to do something constructive. Toooooodles, MA

Stomach's about 95% at this point. This morning I still took it easy
* 5 minutes rowing machine
* 5 minutes sailing machine
Upperbody exercises. Fairly light weight.

Later this afternoon, I'll do 30 minutes of light cardio on the elliptical. Tomorrow, I will start adding some intensity.

Had a good midweek weigh-in and anticipate a good weekly one. Hoping for 199.x.

Regarding fiber, I've never gotten it to appear on the tracker. If you click the daily report at the bottom, it should show it. The 2 point report with the pie charts doesn't break it down. Click the daily report button at the bottom of the tracker that gives you the columnar totals and there should be a new column that includes grams of fiber.

Thanks for the info SYN, I think I'm going to stop by Walgreens on the way home & check them out. I'm sure I would need a sturdier version. I'm just thinking that would really be a simple thing to do while watching TV in the evenings.

In reading food labels, I am shocked at where I have been finding hydrogenated oil!!
I had no idea! If you are not reading labels on old favorites, you might want to have a look!

Interesting article By Mike Roizen, MD

1. Have food with a little fat in it 30 minutes before your meal. Eat 70 calories of a healthy fat, like six omega-3-rich walnuts, ground flax seed or a bit of salmon burger. With a small amount of fat in your stomach, you won’t eat ravenously when it’s mealtime.

2. Get 10,000 steps a day. Physical activity is key to maintaining weight loss. Get your 10,000 steps. Can’t take five steps without pain? Take two steps 5,000 times. That’s how important this is for you. We think it reduces type 2 diabetes (and it’s 10,000 steps – not 9,000 steps – that does it) and increases glucose or sugar uptake from your blood into your cells, helping keep your waist thin and your weight loss progressing.

3. Get a buddy. You need to have a friend who is on this journey with you. Being accountable helps you get those 10,000 steps and avoid the food felons. Why we think this works: Social encouragement and peer behaviors are emulated, so if your friend is a little thinner than you and trying to lose weight, too, that’s even better. If you’re the buddy, be non-judgmental – just stay positive and remember that we all need encouragement to resist the siren song of the fattening couch.

4. Avoid the five food felons. Those felons are saturated fats, trans fats, added sugars, syrups and any grains that aren’t 100% whole. Saturated fats include most four-legged animal fat, milk fat, butter, lard, two-legged animal skin, palm oil and coconut oil. Trans fats include partially-hydrogenated fats, vegetable oil blends that are hydrogenated and many margarines and cooking blends. Added sugars and syrups include brown sugar, dextrose, corn sweetener, fructose (as in high-fructose corn syrup), glucose, corn syrup, honey, invert sugar, maltose, lactose, malt syrup, molasses, evaporated cane sugar, raw sugar and sucrose. And non-100% whole grains include enriched white flour, semolina and durum wheat. These five food felons turn on genes that age you, and they are addictive, so you want to eat more and more. Avoid these foods carefully every shopping trip. It will become automatic after about five weeks. And yes, staying away from these foods means that you probably have to clean the junk out of your cupboards and read the ingredient labels on everything in your kitchen cupboards, refrigerator, freezer and breadbox. But that’s a small price to pay for a smaller waist and better overall health.

5. Automate eating. That means that you should often consume a small number of foods you love to eat. They must be easy for you to obtain or prepare and be healthy. You should eat them for each meal, alternating, say, between steel cut oatmeal, a wholesome cereal and an egg white veggie omelet (no cheese) for breakfast. Variety may be the spice of life, but it can be the death of dieting. When you have a lot of choices for a meal, it’s a lot easier to slip out of good eating habits and into ham-induced bad ones. When you sit down at a diner and are presented with a menu that’s the size of a phone book, it’s easy to give in. One way to get away from fat bombs is to eliminate choices for at least one meal a day. Pick the two meals you rush through most and automate them. For most people, one of these is lunch. Find a healthy lunch you like – salad with grilled chicken and olive oil or a vegetarian sub (no oil, no cheese) on whole grain bread – and have it for lunch every day. Yes, every day.

6. Show some resistance. Building muscle is key to burning calories and losing weight. Learn from a trainer how to do the YOU: The Owner’s Manual resistance exercises, or just do the YOU: On a Diet exercises (using your body as your gym). It only takes 20 minutes, three times a week. Adding a little muscle through resistance training helps your body burn more fat throughout the day. Though you can use household objects for resistance exercises, it’s worth investing in a pair of dumbbells to use for lunges, squats and other exercises as you get stronger. Weights usually cost about fifty cents per pound.

Cindy, I got my peddler at Walgreens for about $40. They are also available at WalterDrake.com for around $10. I wanted a sturdier one. Yes, you can use it for upper body. It's great for rainy days or times when I don't feel like going to the gym.

Good morning OWs!

My NSV today is that while in the sauna after a swim at the gym this week, a young woman and her pre-teen or tween daughter were also there. I had no makeup on and in a swimsuit....we were talking, and the mother thought I was 36! WOW did that make my day! I've been feeling old because of my lowered energy since I've been losing weight--not so long ago I could work an 18 hour day and go out dancing! But a few more of those kinds of comments, my dancing shoes may come back out emoticon

WooHoo....

Good Morning OW's & Happy Wednesday to you!!!

LESLIE, hope you enjoy the b'day dinner out w/ your dad!

CHRIS, I will be watching The Biggest Loser tomorrow night - we do not have cable, but I watch it via HULU PLUS which will add it tomorrow. I'm really liking Dolvet though, what do you guys who watch think so far???

I didn't make to the gym this morning - it was coming a wild thunderstorm between 4:30 - 6 this morning and that's the time I would normally leave. Bonnie (basset hound) is afraid of storms, so being the mommy I am, I couldn't leave her alone to freak out. Kelly was there, but he was doing class preparation and couldn't console her like I can. At any rate, I'm going over the faculty gym during my lunch break to try to get some bicycle time in.

SYN & DEB, been meaning to ask you guys - the peddlers that you have - can they be used table top for arms? I've seen that happening lately on the biggest loser & I thought what a good idea. I'm wanting a recumbent bike for the home, but now I'm thinking maybe one of the peddlers like you guys have could serve double duty. What kind are they & where did you get them? Approximate cost?

TRENT - way to do on the veggies!! I swear, the more you eat them, the more your body (and yes, even your taste buds) will crave them!

CHAR - you are a workout hero for sure - doing a Zumba class & then going home to do an exercise DVD - now that's dedication!

DEB, hope being at work today makes you feel better! & Congrats - GREAT NSV!!!

CHERYL & MA, so glad to see you guys back on here!

So, today is NSV day folks, so let's hear 'em!!!!

My NSV for this week is that I'm getting right back into the exercise habits - I skipped two weeks during the holidays...just couldn't find time! BUT, now I'm back into the swing of it and my body is so appreciative! My arthritis really kills me when I'm not exercising daily.

Okay SYN, you've got me all psyched to hear your NSV!!!

Good Morning OWs,

I'm going back to work today and hubby did too. He probably should have stayed home. I am ok to go back but still don't feel real good but good enough to take it really slow. The headaches are still bad and the insides are really sore. Today will be eating light and no exercise. I lost 2 lbs! But, I wouldn't suggest this weight loss plan!

Good to see all the great postings. Hopefully I'll be on to post more starting today.

My NSV is that I didn't revert back to not thinking about being healthy even when sick. I am right back here and not letting that side track me. That felt good!

What is your NSV today?

Ended up not doing my normal ab workout after zumba (there's a group of us that usually stay after). Came home and did my Ron Harper Ripped Core DVD instead (well, mostly did it. Can't do side planks due to arm and some things I toned down). I can tell I'm going to be sore tomorrow!

Evenin all!

Thanks, Chris, nice of you to say. I love our forum and all of you OWs. It just makes it so much easier to try to be healthy AND lose weight, AND share our struggles and victories, and to share secrets;)

Trent, I found my Taco Seasoning mix I made up (I don't like the stuff with the additives especially msg).

1 T Chili Pepper
1.5 t cumin
.25 r oregano
.25 t red pepper flakes
.25 t onion powder
.25 t kosher salt
.25 t sugar or sub
.25 paprika
.25 garlic powder
.25 pepper

Deb, sorry you still don't feel good and that you only got a day to rest. Hope tomorrow is an easy day or you. Feel better.

Trent, you are an exercise machine! Exercising when you are still not well! Hey, I'm impressed! I went for a swim at the gym tonight, and there were alot of people in the pool making lots of waves making it even harder to get through my 20 laps. So I did 18:(

Cindy, you are also motivating me to get my exercise mojo going on! You've been on that exercise roll for quite a while now. Keep it going!

Chris, congrats on a good meeting with your naturo appt! I'll be watching BL with ya!

Can't wait to share my NSV tomorrow!

Til then,

xxoo

Good Evening Friends!

Trent - you are cracking me up with your vegetables (and your non-veggie previous lifestyle) - your green bean dish sounds yummy! I'm glad you were well enough to try some light exercise work. Good for you!

Debbi - sorry hubby is sick now too. Ease back into things - don't push it, you don't want a relapse.

Cindy - I think you will be happier with a weekend weigh in. There are just too many things that come up during the weekend that can trip you up or disguise a perfectly good week with water gain. I'll be anxious to hear how it goes.

Syn - you are such a gem on this forum - you have so much good experience and information to share! Thanks for being part of the OW's!

Tonight is The Biggest Loser! Who's watching with me?

My visit to the naturopath was great. I will blog about it tomorrow. The gist of it is for the next three to four weeks she wants me to keep my carbs below 70, keep my protein around 70 and double my fat (good fats). She wants lots of walnuts, almonds, avacado, pumpkin seeds, full fat dairy of all kinds. An interesting thing she said was not to cook with olive oil - she said when you heat it the molecular structure changes and it is no longer good for you. She said to use grapeseed oil for cooking and to stay away from canola and/or vegetable oil - and of course all margarine - straight out butter. She was very proud of my loss and my journal keeping. She said after the next couple of weeks we will begin to add one carb a week - but only the least processed ones like potatoes and rice. I have to get used to not eating processed junk and diet food. I can do this!

Well, hubby is home and it is time for dinner. Think about your NSV for tomorrow - I can't wait to hear them! xo

Out all day from work sick and hubby is sick too - a day behind me. Everyone at the niece's b-day party is sick so someone had it and shared. UGH! Tummy is getting better with chicken noodle soup, some crackers and lots of water, some juice.

I plan on going back to work tomorrow no exercise. I'll keep eating what feels good on my insides and get back to the regular stuff I'm use to eating. Actually, chicken noodle soup has many things that are good for you anyway and I got the low sodium.

Lots of activity on here lately - love it and will read up more probably tomorrow. Still feeling like my brain can't focus to well and the headaches are still there. But, getting better.

Trent - hope you are feeling better

Just did my first workout since Friday. Took it really easy.
10 minutes on the eliptical
5 leg exercises x 2 sets x 12 reps (enough weight to feel some resistance. Definitely not maxing out)

20 minutes total.

Had the mexican dish again. 2 vegetables in 2 days. Two more than most years of my life :)

Good Afternoon OW's & Happy Tuesday to you!!!

SYN, thank you so much for posting the shred results for us - lots of GREAT losses - keep up the great job y'all.

Very raining & foggy here again today.......REALLY ready for some sunshine - we've had rain everyday since Saturday now.

CHRIS, I've been thinking about what you said regarding your weigh in day being on Friday, and I think I'm going to change mine too - for many of the same reasons you listed. For years I've been weighing in on Monday morning, but I think I'm going to change that to Saturday morning. Hopefully this will keep me on the straight and narrow on Friday night, but allow me just a day of leeway over the weekend. I know lots of times on Friday mornings when I weigh I'm expecting to have a great week, but then my Monday morning it just ends up being mediocre and I do think that mentally puts you on a negative start for the week.

TRENT & DEB, so sorry to hear you guys are having stomach troubles, hope that improves quickly!

TRENT, I used to hate veggies too - now I can't even believe that. I do think it's an acquired taste....the more you eat them, the more you crave them.

LESLIE - I can't wait to hear about how you like the scales - I LOVE gadgets like that!

Mornin friends

I did really well on my 24 hour challenge! Now, off to day 2 and 3. WE’ll see if I can make it all three days. I don’t think I’m eating enough though as the scale isn’t moving—I think I’ve worn out the cleanses and have to do the real thing now…. So I need to bump it up a couple of hundred calories, but it’s so hard to do without adding carbs. Funny that if it isn’t really good, I’d just as soon not eat. That is a revalation!

Thanks, Char, I copied it and will try it one day soon! If they have eggplant at the farmer’s market this week, I’ll pick some up. Do you have to pay for that online Vegetarian website?

Deb, how ya feelin? Are you home resting today? I’m sending you a virtual chicken noodle soup and a big hug! (You also, Trent!)

Hey, Ma, sounds like you need to ‘splain to your sister what your goals are! I have people try to sabotage my weight loss efforts ALL the time. So, I have set up a few defenses to help me ward off those temptations. Good luck!

Chris, funny, I laughed out loud reading your eggplant story. I never bought one before last fall either. Glad I did as the one recipe I made was yummy! Yep, I would have had a little cake also! When I made pumpkin pie for my family over the weekend, instead of making two pies, I made one and put the rest in those little custard dishes for me to cut down the fat and calories from the crust. I sent the rest of the pie home with the kids so they can get fat! Hahaha. No chili left as my family LOVES it..and I made a double batch! Two and three servings each….maybe I should not make it so tastey….

I’ll look forward to your next naturo visit, Chris! I have found it to be very interesting;) hang in there—it’s all about balance.

Leslie, where did you order it and how much was the scale? No stretching it now, huh? Hehehe Look forward to hearing from you every day! I do better when I’m on here daily, and posting my shred weekly. Keeps me in check I think.

Chery, I LOVED your quote today.

TD, yay for veggies last night! Your recipe sounds yumo! We don’t have any vegetarians or vegans on here, I don’t think. I make a recipe with 1 can of black beans, 2 cups of cooked rice ( use the cooking bag one), 1 can of rotel, and cheese of choice (or whatever is in fridge). (sometimes I add cooked ground turkey and/or extra tomatoes. Bake for 30 minutes. Hub loves it. I think I like it because of the carbs, it’s Mexican, and of course THE CHEESE!! My fav is the round sliced Colby from TJs. Mmmmmm

TD, if your tummy still is sensitive, try papaya enzyme. I carry it with me always as when I get that acid happening, I pop one to three and it’s gone immediately! Happens to me a lot when I don’t eat.

Hi everyone else! Hope you each have a productive and good day!

Stomach is same as yesterday. Doing better, but still not liking the more acidic foods.

I posted my numbers for last week. hoping to lose 1-2 pounds this week, closer to 1.

I kept my goal. Bought green beans and corn and made the following recipe with the green beans

* Brown Rice (1/4cup uncooked) - 160 calories
* 85/15 Ground Beef (4oz) - 240 calories
* Green Beans (1/2cup) - 20 calories
* pepperjack cheese (1oz) - 100 calories
* salsa (1/4cup) - 10 calories
total: 530

Using 1/2 the amount of cheese, 1/2 the rice and 3oz of lean turkey with 1T canola oil. Would chop about 250 calories total off of that. I'm trying to finish off the ground beef and I have a relatively high daily calorie allowance for what I'm trying to accomplish.

For a vegetarian option, I might replace the meat with 1/2 cup of black beans. To make it totally vegan, just ditch the cheese. I dunno.

So, yes, you read correctly. I ate and actual vegetable last night.

Guess what?? Guess What?? Guess what?? It's Tuesday and it's sunny. The weather is suppose to be up to 50 with sunshine. I am going outside to play with my son later. Today I get the joy of trying to get everything in order so when my husband get his W-2 we can get our taxes done. Normally I do this but this year there have been some changes in our house so we have decided to go to an account to have them done. Has anyone used H&R Block or Jackson and Hewitt??? I have heard both pro's and con's on them. We might go to one of those instead but not sure yet.

Congrats to each of you that have lost weight this week. I will be weighing in on Friday. Praying that I lost at least the 2 pounds that I have a goal of. Today when I had my oatmeal for breakfast I added just a little vanilla and it was good.

Trent and Deb--Praying that both of you are feeling better today.

Ma--glad to see you are back and that you are going to keep on eye on what your sister eats also.

Char thanks for sharing the recipe.

Syn--thank you for posting and keeping track of the weight loss.

Scrap317--Praying all is well tonight when you go see the naturopath.

Cindy--praying all is well with you.

If I forgot anyone please forgive me. I am trying to remember everyone here but my brain cells have left me some.

May each of you have a wonderful day.

Happy Tuesday Morning!

MA - great to see you back - now you better STAY back! Welcome to your sister - get her on here too!

TRENT - did Syn tell you how to post your numbers? If not go to the OW's main page, click Quarter 1 Five Pound Shred and copy and paste the first message and change the info to yours.

SYN - thanks for updating the results for me!

CHAR - yummy, I may have to try that. I bought an eggplant this week and don't know what to do with it. I figured I would figure something out later!

Well, how did you do on your 24 hour challenge? I made mine, but then fell apart at home - kind of a controlled fall apart though. When I got home from work I was hungry and it was 3 hours till dinner so I heated up a salmon patty from Sunday. Well then I popped some popcorn and ate that too. So to make up for it I got on the elliptical for 25 minutes then made dinner - the spark recipe for honey balsamic chicken is easy and yummy! However, after dinner I made funnel cakes for my future son-in-laws birthday (his request) with freshed whipped cream and strawberries. I didn't even try to resist. I'm not going to go to all that trouble once a year and not have one. So I did. My calories went over today, but it was not a complete wash.

Today after work I have a visit with my naturopath. She is going to look over my blood work results and we are going to make a plan for my eating. She is also going to weigh and measure me. I'll let you know if she says anything interesting :)

I'll check in later - have a great, in control, day! xo

I did modify it a little. I cut in in half as I only had one eggplant, the sun-dried tomatoes I used were not in oil or water, I used one whole fresh orange bell pepper, and added a little red onion to the tomato mixture. I served it with rice. It was yummy!!!!

My DD went back home and my sister has arrived.

one of our offers were rejected for the bids we put on the homes and two offers had stipulations so we backed down....so we are back to square one. I am tired of looking at homes. I want to get back to exercising.

I did 10 miles on the trike today with Oliver. We went to the Nursing Home, Library, Big Lots and the Thrift Shop. I have an odometer on the bike and it tells me the miles traveled plus the actual time I spend peddling. There are a couple other numbers but not sure what they are. I am trying to find the instructions for the odometer.

I found 3 real nice pair of capri's at the thrift shop for $5. I don't need clothes but the price was right. I usually pay 12-15 dollars for 1 pr of capri's new.

Well, I gained about 15 pounds while my DD was here. My sister is here and she likes to cheat, but I think she has pushed that to the limits and really has to behave now --which is good. I can monitor both our eating. She will have to eat what I eat. I sure don't want anything to happen to her while she is visiting this winter.

I think I am pretty much focused and back in the saddle.

Being I lft my sister alone most the day reading a book. I think I will go watch a movie with her. I will try to get back here more often too, for now, tooooodles - MA

Hey Syn, I'm such a ding dong! I posted the wrong number in the parenthesis - I said "down 4" when I was supposed to say "down 6". My starting weight was 272 and at weigh in I was 266. Please can you edit your post on the results? I don't know when I'll have that success again! Thanks!

Guess what every body? It's snowing here! They didn't even call for it, but sure enough it is snowing like crazy and sticking too.

I made it through the meeting without eating any of the cookies one of the gals brought. I stuck to my 2 clementines, 1 Laughing Cow cheese wedge and 10 cherry tomatoes. Yay! Now I need to be as successful on Thursday.

I think I better head home - people here can't drive in the snow to save their life - so to save mine I'm getting off the streets early! Check back later! I'm making a spark recipe for honey balsamic chicken - I'll let you know how it turns out! xo

Good morning OWs!

Trent, sorry you are still under the weather! Great you are thinking about your veggies! ILOVE green beans especially if I get them from the farmer's market.

My 24 hour challenge is to get exercise started again! I was a bad exerciser last week.

Off to a busy day! Enjoy the day everyone!

PS Trent, I have a taco seasoning spice mix if you want it. I made it so I didn't have any additives in my dish.

14 Snacks That Power Up Weight Loss

Energize your workouts with these 14 calorie-smart combos!

7.) Tropical Surprise

½ cup 1% cottage cheese mixed with 4 ounces crushed, drained pineapple

Serves: 1
Per Serving: 149 calories, 1 g fat, 1 g saturated fat, 15 g protein, 21 g carbohydrates, 1 g fiber, 87 mg calcium, 460 mg sodium

8.) Toasted Carrot Cake Muffins

1 Cream Cheese-Filled Carrot Cake Gem , cut in half and heated in a nonstick skillet or toaster oven
½ cup low-fat vanilla yogurt

Serves: 1
Per Serving: 164 calories, 6 g fat, 2 g saturated fat, 4 g protein, 25 g carbohydrates, 1 g fiber, 39 mg calcium, 161 mg sodium
Total Time: 45 Minutes
Filling

4 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
¼ cup sugar
2 tablespoons liquid egg substitute

Muffins

1 ¼ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup whole-wheat flour
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¾ teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons canola oil
¼ cup low-fat sour cream
2 ½ tablespoons brown sugar
2 ½ tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup freshly grated carrots
½ cup drained crushed pineapple

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Coat a 12-cup muffin tin with nonstick spray.
2. For the filling: Beat together the cream cheese, sugar, and egg substitute in a small bowl.
3. For the muffins: In a large bowl, combine the flours, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and cinnamon. Set aside.
4. In a medium bowl, cream together the oil, sour cream, and sugars until well blended. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Stir in the carrots and pineapple.
5. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the wet ingredients all at once. Stir just until combined. The batter will be thick, so don't overmix.
6. Fill the muffin cups about one-quarter of the way with the batter. Add 1 tablespoon of the filling, then top with more batter (it may not cover completely).
7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until a cake tester or toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan.
Makes 12 muffins.
Note: Freeze 10 of the muffins to keep them fresh longer. Reserve 1 muffing for Day 8

How are you today?? Me, oh I am have a good day. I am doing the laundry (bedding today) then I can hang it out on the line. We are having such a wonderful sunny day. I need to get out and do something today. Not sure what yet.

Been a busy time on here and I have so much to read so if I haven't commented on something I am sorry

Cindy--hopefully you will be company free for a couple of weeks. Good job on the lost of 3 pounds.

TRENTDREAMER--sorry to hear that you have been having stomach problems. Rest and eat lightly maybe for the next 24 hours. Maybe do the BRAT thing (banana, rice, apple juice and toast).

I did not make the most wisest choices for food this weekend but I did journal all of it and got some exercises in not much I had injured my left knee about 2 weeks ago and so it swells up really bad. I had a medicus tear repair on it about 2-2 1/2 yrs ago and had no problems until now. Praying it will get better here soon.

Water Water I need to drink more Water.

Stomachs feeling better but not great. I had a typical breakfast (including dairy). the stomach is definitely not happy, but I'm not doubled over in pain either. I'm going to take it easy today and see where I am tomorrow.

my 24 hour challenge will be to get to the store and buy some green beans and corn. I'm going to try a ground beef, green bean, brown rice and salsa meal in the next day or so (depending on how the stomach is doing.)

any good Mexican or Tex Mex seasoning combos that you or your families like?
