Barb, I have days like that all the time. You probably accomplished more yesterday than most of us do in a week.

Yesterday I failed to get done anything I was supposed to, but a lot was accomplished anyway. One of the cow waterers was overflowing first thing, and ended up by getting two more calves to feed, so that is 16 with my calf. Was supposed to clean out the barn but that didnít happen

Happy Sunday to all of you. It is foggy here and a bit drizzly. The good news is that I can see some of the snow has disappeared. I think we are to get rain later.

Good morning my Maine Spark Friends!

I have had a busy week, and have not checked in as much. You have all been so busy, it just warmed my heart to see all of the posts! So nice to see some more activity in our daily chats again!

It occurred to me that we are like old friends who may go long periods of time without keeping in touch, but when we do, it is just as if it were yesterday, we don't skip a beat and all is well.

This is the last day of March, I am ready to turn the page and welcome a new month. I will try to get that set up tonight or tomorrow.

Hoping to see a few glimpses of sunshine today!

so nice to see our friends back!

Sandy

A circus sometimes describes it perfectly, there is a calf running loose in the aisle mostly because she keeps slipping her collar, Then there is Junipers heifer yearling that demands instant attention to her food first but that never happens, the problem is that she has the most annoying very loud bellow you can imagine. Cats running under my feet, there are two new ones, kittens from last fall and spring, Mischief and KoKo, Koko is very shy, very slinky, can jump anywhere, looks and acts like a Siamese, with blue eyes and unfortunately can yowls like one to, mostly from the top of the rabbit cages when she thinks I should be petting her instead of feeding calves. Does get loud sometimes.

The new lambs still kind of wet right after they were born

Yesterday was egg selling day, kind of a more relaxed day for me lol. Another ewe had twin lambs Wednesday during morning chores, or rather she started in labor just as I was getting done, making me stay in the barn hours longer then usual. She did fine and the twin rams are doing well. She is one of the few ewes I have that makes all kind of noise in labor, emitting increasingly loud baaís every time she had a contraction. The first lamb has lungs to match his mother and all during the birth of the second ram blatted at the top of his lungs, and tried to nurse which wasnít really what was on the mothers mind. I have been keeping an eye on them because they are both a little louder then usual which sometimes means they arenít getting enough to eat, but so far the bellyís seem fat enough, so I think it may mean they are going to be loud mouths like their mother.

I know how you feel, Rachelle, about spending a lot of time posting to team boards. I have stopped instinct most of them, and also post to only this and one other now.

Barb, I do know how time consuming bottle feeding animals can be. Years ago, I bottle fed some baby pigs whose motherhood would not tend. I managed to keep them alive, but I felt they were more demanding than human babies. Glad Calliope is we!l and a good companion. My Tabitha continues to have more than her share of mischief.

Good morning friends. The last few weeks have been over the top crazy. In addition to trying to address a very painful, recurring health issue in a very sensitive area, I also had to deal with the sudden passing and funeral for a dear friend. Throw in some unexpected school board challenges/ meetings and, well, you get the picture. All of this turmoil is one of the reasons I decided to take a break and step away from the computer for a while. Another is that I really need to get moving and I found myself spending way too much time in front of the computer responding to my Spark teams. I have limited myself to just two teams-this and one other. Looking forward to a more active spring!

So good to see you Barb! I agree with everyone's sentiments. I don't post everyday, but always feel like I am among friends when I do. Sorry to hear about the little one. I am sure the loss is hard on you as well. Hope the other twin continues to do well. Glad to hear Calliope is doing well. Sounds like the calves keep you busy!

Enjoy this sunny Tuesday everyone.

The ewe is not real old, but she had such a delayed second birth that it was hard on her, they sometimes do have still burns but not often. I was second guessing myself that maybe I should have done an internal check but I think the lamb had been dead for at least 24 hours or more, and it is somewhat invasive to do internal checks for no reason at all. She had passed the afterbirth and had no more contractions. I always feel bad about losing a baby like that.

Calliope is doing fine, she still takes the meds for her asthma, and is still very good about being pilled every day. She is such a sweetheart and excellent company, I am lucky to have her.

I have two new barn cats, both came as kittens, Mischief and KoKo. I will have to see if I have pictures.

Another calf came tonight, I have been raising calves for the dairy farmer that I AL bred for, right now I have 13 calves, that takes a while to make up bottles twice a day!

So sorry about the stillborn lamb, Barb. Was it because of The mother's age or does it happen occasionally anyway? How is Calliope? I really have missed your posts here.

Thanks for the welcome back into the fold! Yesterday I cleaned out the barn, was kind of rough on the worse knee but good to get it done. One of my older ewes had twin lambs but one was a still born, the little ewe is doing fine though and mama is eating her hay fine and feeding the baby.

It has been a good day here as well, but it is quite windy. Am hoping that it will dry up some of the mud. We still have quite a bit of snow, but it is melting producing my very muddy driveway. At this point the dog doesn't like the mud, but sinks when she tries to walk on the dog snow.. Needless to say we don't spend a lot off time outside.

So true Eileen!

We attended a memorial service for a dear friend today, 500 people there!

This afternoon i went for a 30 minute walk outside. It was nice that the dirt road had very little ice left so I could enjoy being outside instead of on my stationary bike.

I am not losing as quickly as I had hoped, but at least I am making progress. I will be happy with that!

Hope you all have a great day.

An extremely busy week here. Things have finally slowed down enough that I am catching up with the emails, but still need to keep moving forward. At least it has been warm enough that there has been some snow melt. Spring just might arrive after all.

Hi Eileen,

My FitBit still malfunctions with some features, but it works for the most part. When this one dies I will get another one for sure. I can log my exercise on it manually, so I am covered either way.

Thanks for asking!

MARCH! and there is still SNOW in the forecast!
Welcome March. I had a rough February and I just gave up. However, new month here we go. I have rejoined the GYM and I even found a Zumba class that will be starting up soon. This is my month to get back on the wagon.

Sandy - Are you still having trouble with your FitBit? Strangely enough, I ordered a new Zip--the model I prefer- only to have my current one start work OK again. Now I am wondering if it might have caused by some faulty syncing for a short time. At least now I have a spare waiting in the wings of this one should stop working again.

I am enjoying this beautiful sunny weather today with some snow melt, but am not looking forward to tomorrow's forecast. At least the prediction for the coming week, is for warmer temperatures. Maybe some on my feet of snow will disappear.

Eileen,

Funny that you are having trouble with your FitBit, as I am also. Mine is one year old, HR2. It is my second one. I love having one. Mine is failing to register my exercise periods, I have to enter them manually. It counts the steps okay, but looks like I didn't meet my goal.

What kind did you get?

GRAMMIEOFTWO: Nice that you lost the weight, but so sad that you have had such a struggle with your platelets. I hope things straighten out for you soon. Thanks for posting!

I think we got 8-12 inches of snow here on the coast, I did have to work today, then come home and shovel a bit.

Guess we can't complain as it is not quite spring yet!

Take care friends!

Hello Everyone -- Im back . I also have good news for a change. I lost 11 lbs. I need to lose weight this time because my health is starting to suffer starting with my immune system attacking my cells. My platelets were so low that I needed 4 rounds of infusion.. My platelets are now over 100'000 cells.. At 10,000you can have spontaneous bleeding. I have had that happen. My lowest platelet level was 15,000 cells. Hopefully my cells will continue to soar a bit more and I can start to feel normal again. emoticon emoticon emoticon

We have gotten about 5 inches of snow so far--hopefully it will stop snowing soon.

After a few day of having my FitBit Zip acting very strange loosing steps, changing time, etc. I have decided it is time for a new one. I have lost all my fitness streaks that I was working on because of the way that thing is acting. A new one will be here Thursday, and then I will start on my streaks again. I believe I have gotten my steps in each day, just no way of recording how many.

Rachelle, I will look for the new "pasta" that you mention, since I too, like noodles in my soup.

Good morning Maine friends. I always feel a sense of hope and anticipation for spring when we turn the calendar page to March. Even though it snowed last night, and will snow again tonight, the sun is a little closer to the earth and I know spring is getting closer. I have reflected on my progress since January in order to determine my goals for March. Losing weight is always an ongoing goal. I have lost since January and my goal for March is to continue that downward trend. I really need to increase my activity. My knee has given me a tough time and I know losing weight and getting more exercise will help alleviate some of the pain. I really donít want knee surgery, but if I do, I want to be at a lower weight.

I havenít tried any new recipes, but I do like some of the new vegetable options from Green Giant and Birdís Eye. I add the riced cauliflower mix to my chicken soup and since I love noodles, I can now use the Birdís Eye ďpastaĒ made with cauliflower and lentils.
Have a great week all.

A bit of snow is predicted for later today, but hopefully it will only be a dusting (or none at all?).

At least, we have had some melted with warmer temperatures and the sun shining the last couple of days.

Welcome March! Hopefully we will see snow melt (slowly so as not to create flooding), and gradually warmer temperatures.

I did manage to weigh in this morning, and although I did not get under 150 as I had hoped, I have lost 9 pounds since January 1st so it should be doable in March.

I am planning to keep watching what I eat with the emphasis on healthy. I made a large pot of lentil stew yesterday which is one of my favorite lunches. I don't really have a recipe for it, but cook a package of lentils in water, and a quart of chicken broth. Once the lentils are tender I add one or two onions, carrots and celery and cook until vegetables are done. I also dice up a "rope" of some type of sausage (like Polish or Summer). Yesterday, I added a lot of thyme, a sprinkle of crushed red pepper and some black pepper to taste. It was really good and a cold day. Now I have a couple lunches of that in the "frig", with more frozen for later.

Good morning Spark Maine!

Here we are in March! For me it is a time to get moving! Spring is just a blink away!

Because I have been taking my health more seriously this year, I am a head of where I was last year at this time, and that is great news!

I can't wait for the ice to leave my private road so I can get my outside walking going again!

I have tried new recipes, some are keepers, others not,

Do you have plans for March? Will you be stepping it up as you can get outside more?
Have you tried any new healthy recipes that you love, could you share them with us?

Have you tried the new Workplace challenge?

Hold steady friends, Spring is almost here!

Happy March!

Sandy
