Hi TC we are walking the trail. We did it 2 weeks ago and one of my friends fell and was black and blue on her knee and her thigh, we want to go to see the eagles nest right near the small concrete box on the side of the Offices not on the other side. It should be about a 3/4 mile and they are up at the top. WooHoo Pat in Maine. emoticon

Jenna, you and I were posting at the same time this morning. I too have used borax for some things and I do like it. I don't remember trying it on my stove top, but will have to do so.

Yes, Pat I know of the Geller family. The mother, Ann, I think her name was, headed an organization called Foothill Arts or something similar. She came to our craft organization meeting years ago to ask us to contribute to her organization to support an arts program. I believe we made a donation. I did know that she had a daughter but have never seen her perform.

I have used Bartenders Friend in cleaning, but I much prefer using baking soda with white vinegar and sometimes add ammonia. I cannot prove it, but I think the Bartenders Friend damaged my ceramic stove top.

I did think after I had rescued Tabitha from her plight yesterday that I wished i had taken and photo of her before pulling the basket off. Of course she was frantically trying to get her head out, banging into things, and it would have been cruel to go for my camera and make her suffer longer than necessary. I just hope she doesn't do something similar when I am away.

Barb, I so know what you mean about cats in high places. I have trained all my cats in the past to stay off tables and countertops, but have given up on Tabitha. She is determined to be as high as she can get, and I have decided that life is too short to constantly battle with her about this.

It looks like it is deeloping into a beautiful day with the sun shining birghtly.

Hope everyone can get out and enjoy it.

Pat, I use a bit of borax sprinkled on the sink with lemon juice. It works really well!!! I did get the sink clean, the floors mopped and some laundry out of the way yesterday. I also cut hubby's hair and painted my nails. We have a concert this afternoon and a rehearsal this evening. I am hoping to get some groceries in between the two! For now, I'm taking a few blissful moments to myself this morning!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Hi EILEEN, Do you know SARAH GELLER from Farmington, now a Concert violinist. She is giving a concert tomorrow, at UMA. at 2pm.

Tomorrow is the concert and when we took her contract it was all good. She called our committee she is pregnant. She is a violinist. She came from Maine and she comes to see her mother so she asked us if a pregnant Violinist on stage and we all said YES. She comes from New York where she performs and she teaches violin too.
We are looking forward to seeing her again. She usually has a big violinist following and we bring the little kids and before the concert, I gave them the goodies but she is not to stay on stage for three hours we are watching her close and she does have another person with
accompanying her. She was born and raised in Farmington, Pat in Maine.

Hi JENNA, I used to Clorox Bleach and I did not like the smell and how bad it is in the environment, then I used lemon juice it was not as great but it smelled much better with Clorox.

Lemon juice and salt was next and it worked with elbow grease.
Lemon Juice works on my refrigerator and my DH has a C Pap Machine and it is impossible to get my hand in. I just put Lemon Juice in and let it stand and added heat. If I switch it on but I add some boiling water and that helps it.

Same way with the sink, stopper in, lemon juice and boiling water it usually got it white.

Now I am older. My brother in UK is a treasure hunter and he finds old bottles from places he finds and digs them up.
After several hundred years the surface of the glass was "sick" and he told me to Use Bar Tenders Friend made it in 1882 used in U.K. Hes aid he would send some and in a few minutes he had googled it and he said there is a place WALMART in Maine.

Now I use it and it is not as abrasive as other cleaning powders.
My stove top is white glass and I used to clean it with the expensive cleaner and it smells awful and I still had used Elbow grease.

For me it works, it cleans the Glass top. You might be using it and some time you might try it. I loved my old glistening white sink but DH and I drank tea and it was not clean for very long so I got a ceramic sink and it is about the same. HOWEVER-I like having WHITE no longer for me. I am too old to be using much Elbow grease these days .
Pat in Augusta.

Eileen, That must have been a laugh when you finally got it off. Cats are so inquisitive, I bet you would have liked a photo but the cat needed help. WOO HOO. emoticon
The sun and wind has unearthed the pool.
Since the snow went down to the grass the places where the Chihuahua can get out she is such a way of dragging her body through the openings. Yesterday she went for the first time and I walked the neighborhood and she was sitting in the sun behind the gate. We lowered the gate and thought it was over. She got out at the other gate so our son bought fancy bricks to put outside of the fence and so far she has not found another hole.
The skunks will be out I have smelled them and since I feed the birds and the crows the skunks come by especially with their babies They do just as the little dog do so the holes get lower so we will have to buy more concrete blocks.. Pat in Maine.

As much as I would never put up with a cat that was never on the floor earlier in my life, I have to say Calliope is the same, she is always up at the highest point she can obtain, or going from one high point to another, she goes from the windowsill to my table by my bed, to the rocking chair, to the tall dresser, to the long dresser, never disturbing anything. She has taken to sleeping on the front of the pellet stove, it is much warmer there, although sometimes when I am cold I sit on it, it is not for long!

Yes, Barb, I have learned not to leave any windows open that she could cause problems on. I have also learned to leave my laptop partially closed so if she does walk across the keyboard after I have turned it off, she cannot turn it back on.

You would have laughed today if you could have seen her. I cannot keep her on the floor and she walks on a desk where I have several small basket. Some how she got her head into one of them with a handle, and managed to get it stuck on her head. I was glad I was home so that I get help her get it off, she couldn't see where she was going and was making quite a lot of noise. The thing was that I had been out of town for a few hours and had just gotten back home when she got her head caught.

Have a nice evening everyone.

I laughed about Tabitha, Calliope does that all the time, she likes to step on the iPad too, I have learned not to leave my iPad open, I had some things in my cart on Amazon not intending to order for a couple of days and fell asleep, the only thing I could think of is she walked on it and pressed the one click ordering, the item was ordered at 2:38 am, I was asleep.

It is cloudy here, but at least no rain.

Jenna - Your post made me think of when I worked full time, and crammed a week of housework into Saturday or the whole weekend if necessary. Miss the income, but don't miss the weekends packed with housework.

Tabitha (my youngest cat) has taken to helping me on the computer recently. She just stepped on the keyboard and I had two whole lines of letters to delete before I could continue. I try to keep her of the table, etc. but it is a losing battle. She does as she wants.

Have a great day.

Good weekend morning! 7am and I am just rolling out of bed! I can't remember the last time I had a lie-in like that. It was lovely! We have a busy weekend ahead. A rehearsal this morning from 8:30 until probably close to noon. Then a concert tomorrow afternoon. We will have to arrive at noon, the concert starts at two so we are probably looking at wrapping up around 4:30ish and then we have a different rehearsal in another town at 6! I have two must tackle chores. I really need to mop and give the kitchen sink a good scrub with elbow grease. It is white and EVERYTHING shows on it! Of course there is always laundry, dishes and food prep to do on a weekend to. What gets done, will get done!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

BARB, Fred has Medicare and we pay $80 dollars and if they were not on Medicare they would be $350 a month .DH sometimes misses his eye and there is exact amount not a few drops more.
They will not allow the RX till after the 30 days. There are so many people with macular degeneration. They stopped eating EGG YOLKS and now there are so many people have it it is an epidemic but the people who have said throw the yolks away should be giving money back to the people who have to use those drops, for a life time or have lost their sight.

Can't believe the sun is shining out there today! It was cloudy and occasionally drizzling this morning but not enough to bother. Last nights rain took a lot of snow, but there is sure a lot left to go. My driveway is a quagmire of mud, I put up posts today so people would stay off the lawn, it really annoys me when people drive on my lawn, there are some big ruts already, it is not like I don't have a huge driveway, that circles around with plenty of places to turn around.

The guy I met in the eye Drs last week stopped and we went up into the orchard and gathered scion wood from several trees, the Macintosh, Macon, winter Banana, Charette, and Pomme d'Or. it was kind of hard going, every now and then you fall in the snow with one leg or two. This guy knows my Dad, and long time ago set him up with bees, I hadn't seen him for at least 20 years. Bates fuel came to deliver my pellets soon after and only sent one person to deliver, so Fred and I both helped and it didn't take long to get the two tons in the barn and stacked. Seems like they should take money off the delivery if they are not going to send enough people to carry the bags.

My appointment on Tuesday at the eye Drs had them stopping the dilation drops, and cutting the steroid down to 4x a day, that is much more manageable then every hour. Going to stay at 4 drops a day until next month. I called Walmart to see if he called in a prescription, and was kind of shocked to find it was going to be $80 for that little tiny bottle, this whole thing is getting very expensive.

Fortunately, the rain seems to have stopped, or at least is only going to be showers today.

I can see that a lot of snow is starting to disappear which is good since I still have so much.
The dog is at her twice yearly point of not being able to decide where she needs to go. In the fall she doesn't want to go onto snowy places, and in the spring she seeks the snowy places as doesn't feel comfortable walking on the dirt or grass that is starting to appear. It takes a while to complete the trips outside right not.

Have another person coming for baskets this afternoon, so need to get busy getting material from yesterday picked up (I leave it out overnight to make sure nothing is put away damp), and then get today's materials ready.

Have a great day.

I fell asleep listening to the rain on the roof last night! I love falling asleep listening to the rain! And we are starting to really lose some snow! Even better! I did a major dusting of the house yesterday and tonight I will mop the floors. It feels wonderful to get a bit of spring cleaning done.

I've been diligently cutting back on added oils and sugars this past week and it is paying off the scale is sliding downward steadily. One-derland here I come!

It has started to drizzle here, not really hard enough to call it rain. I guess that will come later.

Yesterday, I attended the meeting for an extension group that I belonged to years ago. I dropped out when I became so busy with baskets, but I have now rejoined. There were a few there from the original group and some members that have joined since I left, but I knew almost all of them. I was a good afternoon spent with women about my age with similar interests.

Have a great day everyone, and lets hope it doesn't rain enough to cause floods.

I am loving the FIBER Challenge and it is doing good things for me. I have some in my freezer and I am getting it out so I can get Rhubarb Ginger Dessert. DH loves it but he is not supposed to eat a lot of it so I like to freeze some just for me and I get some for him in a Rhubarb Date pie. His mother used to bake them almost every week and I was baking Pies in season and freezing them.

DH and I have to go down to Scarborough to Neuro &Spine. This time we will not get ourselves lost. I have my Garmin is in the Van and we will check in at LLBEAN.
DH stays in the car park at the outlet store. That is the place where we do get good buys and I like cotton on my tops. I cannot tolerate man made fibers.
In Augusta the day was sleet and in the evening it began to lay so this morning we had to move very heavy wet slush and yet it was very slippery. I told DH just get to the side door and we will get to the University. By the time we were there it was 10a.m. and the pathways were all melted.
Today our Funeral Was about Green Funerals, we had never heard about them.

Ah Rhubarb - I have quite a bit of it, but it is still buried under tons of snow. I did add some manure to it last fall so hopefully will have a good crop when the snow melts.

Jenna - We did not get the large amount of snow the weatherman had predicted, and have about an each of very we snow on the ground this morning. That is fine by me. I am over all the snow this year and would just as soon not see another flake. I have also heard that next we temperatures are supposed to indeed be spring like.

Glad your are enjoying the fiber challenge, Pat. I get a lot of fiber in the form of fruits and vegetables.

We have a HUGE rhubarb patch! We give so much away. We are only two people but the owners before us had an 8x4 patch of rhubarb!!

We barely got a dusting of snow last night and non of the rain they anticipated. I think they are now saying the rain will be here tomorrow night. That is okay by me if it takes some of the white stuff with it!! Plus I have a new raincoat, so I will stay dry and happy! I heard rumor we have real nice temps coming at the beginning of next week and I am holding tight to that thought!

Enjoy your Wednesday, friends!

Hi there I have been doing the Fiber challenge I actually like it. My Gran used to call it roughage in UK and my Gran was always talking about the good stuff she called it.
Biggest deal was Rhubarb. She had a big plot of Rhubarb and so many people stole it away. She used to say they are doing me a favor, I cannot get to the allotment so they are picking it and that will make so much more.
She is right. We want to try to grow it but DH says we eat Rhubarb crisps and Pies and that needs sugar. I am still pondering about getting some plants but likely not.
We had wet snow today and we went to a lecture and the presentation was about the Sardine factory at Prospect Harbor. The last one in Maine.
They also had part of the immigrants study who have been recording where they are from and why they came to the U.S.
It was very interesting, Pat in Maine.

I got home from my appointments this morning just as the snow began to fall. I would have been home earlier but a grocery store close to my doctor's office was having a special on bananas. When I got there just after the store opened all they had was extremely ripe bananas and I like them when they still have a bit of green on them. I was promised there would be more bananas pot out within the 1/2 hour, so spent time walking up and down the aisles until they put out more. I got quite a few steps in, but the bad thing with that was I found a few things that I wouldn't normally have purchased. They were healthy purchases so not too bad to get them.

Hope everyone travels safe in this storm. The roads here look to be clear, but if they freeze later it could be icy.

BARB, I love your Blogs, my Grand daughter just loves your photos and now she is drawing animals more.
She mostly draws and pencil art and she won an art competition and it was hung at the Plattsburgh art college. I am giving all her at supplies. She s he one with fibromyalgia and alas she was bullied in the school for way too long. She will not go to school but she goes after school. She wants to go to Portland art School. She has to keep her academic grades up and I hope she can do it.
I hope there is no snow between the White and Green Mountains. Her Dad will bring her and stays one night then he will come to meet us half way in New Hampshire emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon .

HANNAH, I had a 3 teeth accident right in the Upper front years ago-over 50 years they were yanked out and we were poor. 16 years old and never smiled like I did at 5 I am sure.

When we came to US I had several crowned. Our son fell off his bike and he did the same thing but I took him to the Dentist and he crowned the. The dentist told us it will need doing again because the tooth had not grown and his same teeth are still there white as always.
He is almost 40 something years old. He went to Bar Harbor and worked at a pizza place on the Main Street another boy was walking by and he hit our son in the mouth and broke 2 teeth. We had to drive to Bar harbor and he went to the same dentist and no-one except him knows which tooth were crowned. Pat in Augusta. emoticon

TCD we walked the rail trail before the new snow and it looked all good one of our walkers slipped on black ice and she was badly bruised but not broken.
Soon we will walk the trail and I live 2 miles away to walk and just 10 minutes to behind the Y and rail trail parking lot. If you would like it for a while just let me know.

You can check out on Spark articles and they have a list. Fiber and greens and water helps for me.
I am doing the fiber challenge and there are good recipes for fiber on the web. I think checking the fiber content is all in Spark articles.

Good morning and Happy Tuesday!

Yesterday I had a good workout at the gym. I finally went there on my own and not because of a personal training session. Tomorrow I do meet with the trainer. It all feels good.

Update on the broken tooth, I'm going to need a crown, but first need to see a periodontist... Darn, but hopefully it'll be fixed within a few weeks.

Have a good day everyone.

Anybody else in a recipe rut? Hubby and I pulled out two new recipes to try this week. We both felt like we needed something new to look forward to in the kitchen this week. Tonight we will try Polenta and Black Bean Medallions from the Forks over Knives cookbook.

I'm trying super hard to drop just a couple more pounds in the next two week. I'm so close to a milestone goal and I would really love to hit it before heading off on vacation!!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

Enjoyed getting out for a short walk today. One of the ways I add extra steps is to walk around the front of the Cross Building before heading in versus using the closest door. Not such a great strategy in the winter, but today was lovely. I'll start walking over to the library at lunch time or walking around the State House.

I hope the weather tomorrow won't be too bad. I am tired of driving in the snow.

I was posting to Sue about the Knitting needles from the UK I have lots of them.
I also said the overseas knitting yarn has to have a square on the knitted square just to see if it is any close to the size of the garment. Gauges are great. I had a Beehive to hold your yarn and to size the needles. It broke in passage to US so many years ago I never replaced it.
We had a nice "MELTING DAY" and the roadsides were little rivulets.

Sue - I don't like to knot the gauge swatch either, but have found that I need to do that for most patterns since I have a tendency to know loose.

We have a beautiful day her, so I took a quick trip out of town to pick up a few things that I need that I can't find in Farmington. I went to only the stores I planned to visit and was back home a few minutes after noon. I want to watch the Red Sox opening game this afternoon, so made sure I would be here in time.

Have to medical appointments tomorrow morning and then I will be home, hopefully, before the next mess of foul weather rolls in.

Have a great day everyone.

I love the way Hannah used the letters of the month of April to inspire us! Well done!

March was an interesting month for me, returning to work after 6 weeks medical leave. I realized that I still need to build stamina and get more rest. It felt like I lost a little ground with each successive week, The last week I fell short on most all of my goals.

Thankful that April is here, looking to refocus, and move on.

I tend to slack off in SP reading and posting, as the week wear on. I have done fairly well tracking my food and my Fitbit is synced so that helps. I get to read and post on Sunday/Monday, my days off.

Wishing you all a great month, sunny skies and particularly a sunny disposition!

Hi, team!

Thanks for all the nice comments about my mitten project! Eileen -- yes, the patterns in the book call for using fingering or sock yarn. I tried that with the size 2 needles they called for, and the mitten I made was way too small for anyone but an infant. I made some for myself with bigger needles and a heavier yarn, and they were huge! Now I'm finally giving in and making swatches to check the gauge, something I hate doing and always think I can avoid.

We got about 10 inches of snow, but it was melting even before it stopped snowing. When I went out to shovel in the late afternoon, it looked like there was only five or six inches. Very heavy shoveling, though! I had to take small shovelfuls.

Barb, that's really funny about the woman in the store. I think what you said was great -- that was very rude of her to say what she said. And I hate heavy perfume -- it chokes me up. As an avid gardener, I consider the farm smell much more pleasant than heavy perfume!

I'm going to try to get to bed early (well, it's not early, but I've been going to sleep around 1:30 or 2), and try to start getting up earlier. I have my SEG (spiritual enrichment group) at church at 9:30 tomorrow, and lately it's been a real struggle getting up in time.

Have a good night!

I have not read but I will find it.
Our son took hours to get the computer to pick up my mail. I was so anxious because I want to keep up with my Challenge.
I am giving up on the SURFACE it is too small for me. I would never use an I pod, I have really fat fingers I think.
We had a lot of snow except on the roads. Our son shoveled almost as soon as it stopped. That left the driveway hot top was all melted and quite a lot on the window sills.

Funny thing is I never saw her face, she was back to me, never turned around, and left looking the other way. I don't usually come out and say stuff like that, but the perfume was horrible and it just came blurting out lol

Barb - I just read the comment you made while waiting in line to pay for your gas, and I have to comment. I have said many time that I can smell the barnyard smell much easier than I can smell someone with too much perfume on. I am allergic to many scents, and heavy perfume gives me an instant headache. Wish I had been there to see that woman's face, but she deserved it! emoticon emoticon

You are lucky, Barb, as some in the state got over a foot of snow. We didn't here, and by the time I got to it this morning it had started to melt. I did clear my driveway with my scoop just to get it over to the side and have the driveway itself clear up faster. Not all of my driveway is paved and the less left on it to melt in place the better it dries up.

It is a gorgeous day, and I spent that time outside simply trying to get fresh air and a little exercise. Still need to walk some to get all my steps in, but the snow I moved was heavy so I feel that my strength training is done.

We really lucked out on the snow thing, there was a slight dusting later in the evening that melted on contact, today is a beautiful sunny day out there!

I am off to the barn to do cleaning out!

Glad to see the April thread started with so man posts.

We did not get as much snow here as some did--probably about 4 or 5 inches in some spots on the driveway this morning. I am sure that I could drive through it with no problem and it will melt soon. However, it is a beautiful day out there and I need an excuse to spend some time doing something outside, so I will go out and move a lot of that snow over to the side of the driveway at least. I love my shovel/scoop that allows me to push snow without having to lift it.

Rita - I have an old cat who is not very selective as to where he goes, and has chosen to pee in my forced hot air furnace vents. Last week I took them apart and washed them with a solution of ammonia, white vinegar and baking soda. Once they were back together again I put drops of eucalyptus essential oil into them to see if it would keep him away. I haven't seen him using them recently so I hope it helps. I do have cat pans on each level, he just doesn't remember to use them all the time. When he dies use the pan, a lot of times he has his back feet on the rim, and it ends up on the floor anyway. At least that is easier to clean up.

Hope everyone is able to enjoy this great spring day.

I have decided this 8 inches of snow (so far) in our yard is mother nature's way of saying emoticon "APRIL FOOLS! You only thought spring was here."

Once again my dog peed in my bedroom. That's twice this week and once just before "she who must not be mentioned" left. I thought maybe he's having flashbacks. Think he could have PTSD? I'm serious, no April fools. I got some carpet shampoo and scrubbed it into a big area since I'm not sure of the exact spots he went. Maybe changing the smell will help. Any other comments/suggestions?

Hi I was reading your March while I was going to find where April was there.

I have computer problems again and those people from India have called 5 times a day some times,
DH and I are certain these people call just to say yes to help with your computer.
They say they are microsoft but it is not.
I am taking to check it out at the computer shop,.
Our son has tried and he is good with computers but I dislike bothering him.
I will catch up soon. WE HAVE SNOW TOO in Augusta. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I was working on this post in the March thread at the same time Hannah was setting up the thread, so it's in both places. emoticon

Catching up after a hectic week at work. Our Commissioner was confirmed, which was a big deal, and we submitted a major plan to the federal government. Today was definitely a day to chill. I enjoyed reading everyone's posts and catching up.

The stories about Jenna's class grandmother and other Nana's brought fond memories of my mom,. Even though she was in her eighties, she had been a regular substitute in our local school system for almost 20 years, up through this past May. She subbed in every grade level from K-12, in most of the district's schools. As kids transitioned from one level to the next, they were always pleased to see her. Two of my grandchildren were at the middle school and whenever she subbed, she was like a celebrity. When she passed away in October, we heard many stories of her impact.

Piggy, I hope you're feeling better.

Sue, the mitten project is such a wonderful idea. What an inspiration! Gook luck!

Pat, I hope all goes well with your PT appointments.I enjoyed reading your story about the midwife. I am always amazed at how much we have evolved.

Rita, Way to go with the weight loss. March has been a struggle with so much going on at work and I am to refocus as we head into April.

Barb, So glad to hear the lambs are doing well. Lucky you-avoiding this snow! We got about 8 inches here.

Time to turn in.
