When pulling up fungus make sure that you wear glove that you can throw away because you will spread the spores with them. Make sure that you also get them out before they open up. What I read on-line is that the mushrooms that come up is the flower and that the real fungus is underground and if you stop it from spreading its spores than that will also help kill it too. I had the white ones come up and was always pulling them up and now I got the orange ones and I am pulling them up and making sure that they do not open their heads to spread the spores.

Sugaraddict - I too dry our clothes on lines in the basement. I only use the dryer for about 5 mins. when the clothes are dry to fluff them up and take out the wrinkles - I throw a wet face cloth in with them and it usually works pretty good.

We've finally been getting rain like others seem to be. It just poured here about 3:30 but it only lasted a few minutes. It's been very cool too - so much so that my husband came home 2 days in a row Mon and Tues asking for soup for his lunch.

I visited a gardening friend today to tour her beautiful day lilies. She spends so much time cross pollinating, taking pics and logging her findings she hasn't the time or inclination to weed. It's too bad, her gardens would be a real showcase - they are with the lilies in bloom but ... mine need weeding too what with not being able to do much with my knee but hers has grass about a foot high all through it. I suppose it helps keep the weeds down and maybe acts as a mulch, lol. She's so dedicated to her development of new day lilies, the only furniture in her living room is tables - covered with plants and implements for the garden. She has a potting table, soil, supplies and what all as well - good thing she doesn't have wall to wall carpet in there. She does a wonderful job with her lilies though. I bought one called Buttered Popcorn and she'll get it to me as soon as she finds the time to dig it up - we both had to run for other appointments by the time we got around to the one I was buying.

I mentioned several weeks ago that I found cup fungus in my new lily garden. It's back - ugh! Last night, after a couple of rains, we found not only the cup fungus but tons of tiny black mushrooms - singles and clusters, as well as clusters of some other type of fungus. Strange thing is is this garden is out in the open, gets sun ALL day long and being new, the plants have lots of room between and around them to allow for future growth. It's not your typical growth climate for mushrooms and such. I'm going to put some lime down where we found it and see if that helps. If not, I'll check out the fungicides. They apparently don't harm perennials but the annuals I have around the perimeter of the garden have suffered for it. The ones nearest the fungus are only a couple of inches high yet the others are about 6-8 inches and like little shrubs! When I Googled it, it said in one article that it comes in the mulch - we spread mulch on this new garden and with what was left of the 2 yards I'd ordered - quite a bit, we put on the other 13 gardens filling in spots it had gotten thin or was missing completely - I'm praying it doesn't spring up all over. The cup fungus is particularly ugly.

I HAVEN'T MINDED IT TOO MUCH THIS SUMMER, EITHER---ALTHOUGH I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE HAD MORE RAIN---TEMPS HAVE NOT BEEN AS AWFUL AS LAST COUPLE OF YEARS---DEFINITELY NOTICE IN MY ELECTRIC BILLS---I PREFER FANS OVER AC!
WENT OUTSIDE THIS MORNING AND SWEPT OFF MY DECK, MY BACK STEPS AND SIDEWALK, PULLED WEEDS AND CLEANED AN AREA THAT REALLY NEEDED IT. THEN CAME IN AND WENT DOWN IN THE BASEMENT---WAS ONLY GOING TO DO ONE BAG OF TRASH AND ONE BAG OF DONATE---WAS ABOUT DONE WITH THAT WHEN MY SON SHOWED UP---WE WENT THRU EVEN MORE STUFF---THINK I HAD 3 BAGS OF TRASH---AND ONE WAS A HUGE ONE---AND TOOK 2 BAGS AND A BOX FULL OF DONATIONS TO THE GOODWILL SHOP. THEN WE CAME BACK AND TOOK OFF ALL THE RECYCLING STUFF. DH COOKED BURGERS OUT ON THE GRILL FOR OUR EARLY DINNER AND SON ATE WITH US. NOW DH IS GETTING READY FOR PT---BUT i AM FEELING ALL THE WORK I DID AND THE STEPS---GOOD THING I HAVE WATER AEROBICS TONIGHT.

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS SUMMER'S WEATHER HERE IN CLEVELAND. FOR THE MOST PART WHAT YOU DESCRIBED THERE, HAS BEEN WHAT IT HAS BEEN LIKE HERE. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING IT'S BEEN TOO COLD. BAH! WHEN IT SAVES ME MAJOR MONEY FOR NOT HAVING TO RUN THE PORTABLE AC, OR FANS CONSTANTLY, I CALL IT A WIN. THOUGH, OUT OF THE PAST 5 DAYS, I THINK I'VE SEEN THE SUN TWICE. BUT, I HAVE A FULL SPECTRUM LIGHT, SO IT DOESN'T AFFECT MY MOODS TOO MUCH.

TAKE CARE ALL

It was cloudy here today too - a good day to take pics of the garden. It was difficult with my bum knee to navigate on the grass but I got some nice pics and I've posted them on my SparkPage if anyone is interested.

I haven't been too good lately at exercise or tracking foods let alone eating as I should. With the torn ligaments in my knee I am still able to do some exercise in the pool thank heavens but not my water jogging. I can also work out on some of the machines at the Heart Rehab but I've been in so much pain I haven't been doing much else. I went to the pool yesterday for my regular day's work out in the pool and it was closed. The roof is being repaired and the workmen wanted a tarp over the pool for that day. Hopefully it will be open when I go again tomorrow morning. I've had my knee x-rayed and I've started laser treatments to hopefully heal the torn ligament. It can't come soon enough believe me. I can't garden, I'm hobbling about with a cane, stairs are a nightmare and so is getting in and out of the car. Because I can't be as active as normal, my glucose levels are way to high and I'm not getting rid of fluids as I usually do. It's been about 4 weeks and I'm going into my 3rd heart failure because of the fluids - even with watching my sodium - apart from that stupid misread of that pepperettes label. The nurse running the heart rehab wanted the label for her nutrition sessions. I took it to her and showed here where the sodium was listed in grams instead of the usual mg and how the amount listed for just 100 gr. of the piece was 3x what the same amount of ham would be. I also noticed and pointed out to her that it said there were no carbs in it yet it listed 18 mg of sugar - sugar is one of the components of the listed carbs so that can't be! I can't take much of anything for pain so I'm feeling just miserable - one of the reasons I haven't been on much - who wants to spread their misery about. I'll be back when I can be a bit more positive. I've been reading other's messages and getting a bit of motivation.

WE FINALLY GOT SOME REAL RAIN YESTERDAY! 2 WHOLE INCHES!! WOOHOO!! MAY GET SOME MORE TODAY. HOPING THEN, IT WILL DRY OUT A BIT OVER THE WEEKEND AS MY GRASS REALLY NEEDS MOWED! IT DIDN'T SO MUCH FOR SO LONG WITHOUT RAIN AND NOW IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S REALLY GROWN OVERNIGHT! IT'S BEEN CLOUDY ALL DAY AND TEMP HOLDING AT 74. EVEN IN SPITE OF THE HUMIDITY, IT'S LOVELY. APPARENTLY THE CLOUDS HAVE DROPPED A BIT OF RAIN ON IT'S WAY THROUGH ( BUT NOT RIGHT HERE) AND KEEPING THE AIR COOL. THERE IS A COOL FRONT ON IT'S WAY SO, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE SAYING IT WILL NOT BE NOTICEABLY COOLED, I'm STILL HOPING IT'LL BE SUPER NICE ANYWAY!
I BE SITTING HERE WITH ME TEETH IN ME MOUTH.......JUST ME AND THE DOGGIE. DH HAD WORK IN UPPER SC AND TOOK DS WITH HIM AS HE IS STILL NOT WELL ENOUGH TO ACCOMPLISH SO MUCH AS BEFORE HE FOUND HIMSELF SICK. HE SPOKE TO A NURSE THE OTHER DAY WHO TOLD HIM THAT HIS SYMPTOMS WHEN HE PRESENTED AT THE HOSPITAL WAS REALLY BAD AND COULD HAVE BEEN THE BEGINNING OF THE END HAD HE NOT GOTTEN MEDICAL HELP WHEN HE DID. SHE ALSO TOLD HIM IT'S GOING TO TAKE CONSIDERABLY LONGER THAN 3 MONTHS TO GET OVER IT! BUT WHEN HE FEELS GOOD, HE THINKS HE CAN CONQUER THE WORLD, BUT THEN HE TRIES AND IT KNOCKS HIM ON HIS A$$!! SO ANYWAY, HE TOOK DS HOPING THAT HIS HELP WILL BE ENOUGH. I SURE HOPE SO.
MY GRAPE TOMATOES SEEM TO REALLY BE DOING WELL. THERE ARE 3 TURNING RED.....ONE SHOULD BE READY FOR MY GRACIE TO PICK TOMORROW! SHE'LL BE TICKLED!
ORANGE DAY LILIES IN BLOOM! ( I THINK OF LECATES EVERYTIME I LOOK AT THEM!)
MY BALLOON FLOWER DID WELL, BUT IS NOW DONE. LILAC IS LOOKING GREAT AND HEALTHY, BUT DID NOT BLOOM THIS SPRING. I THINK IT WAS JUST TOO YOUNG. MAYBE NEXT YEAR. MY HANGING BASKET OF FUSHIA IS DOING JUST BEAUTIFULLY!! (GOT IT FOR MOTHER'S DAY!)
WELL WE HAD A LITTLE SHOWER AND NOW THE SUN IS OUT, THE HUMIDITY IS REALLY DOING IT'S STUFF AT MAKING IT HARD TO LIVE OUT THERE. GOT MY GARBAGE AND RECYCLEABLES OUT TO THE CURB FOR TOMORROW INCLUDING A WHOLE LOT OF CARDBOARD. I FEEL GOOD THAT I GOT IT DONE ALL BY MYSELF. IT'S NOT A HARD JOB BUT THE GARBAGE HAD BEEN RELEGATED TO DS. HE GETS OUT OF IT THIS WEEK! HEHE
HOPE Y'ALL GET THE WEATHER YOU WANT, BUT WE ALL KNOW THE CHANCES OF THAT! LOL TAKE CARE AND STAY SAFE!

I THINK A LOT OF US ARE THRILLED WHEN WE GET THE RAIN WE NEED.
WHAT ARE ALL OF YOU GROWING THIS YEAR? I HAVE LOTS OF VINCA THAT ARE DOING WELL---THEY DO OKAY WHEN THERE IS LITTLE RAIN AND REALLY FLOURISH WHEN THEY GET RAIN---RIGHT NOW THEY ARE JUST GORGEOUS. I HAVE ONE GLADIOLA THAT HAS JUST BLOOMED--AND IN MY FAV COLOR--ORANGE. HAVE LOTS MORE SCATTERED ALL OVER BUT THAT IS THE FIRST TO BLOOM SO FAR. I HAVE BLANKET FLOWERS, BEES BALM, LOTS OF DAY LILIES, HOSTA, AND A FEW OTHERS I AM NOT SURE OF. I HAVE 3 KINDS OF TOMATOES THAT ARE SLOWLY GIVING ME SOME VEGGIES AND A CUCUMBER PLANT THAT IS NOT DOING THAT WELL. ALSO HAVE ROSES AND IRIS. AND LOTS OF TULIPS IN THE SPRING AND A FEW DAFFODILS.

JUST TOOK DH TO PT AND DECIDED TO JUST COME BACK HOME---WE LIVE REALLY CLOSE TO THE PT PLACE---IT IS HOT OUT THERE AND DID NOT FEEL LIKE GOING IN AND OUT IN THE HEAT AND BACK OUT TO HOT CAR---WHEN I GOT HOME, I PULLED THE CAR FURTHER BACK IN THE YARD WHERE IT IS SHADED SO IT WON'T BE SO BAD WHEN I GO BACK OUT.

My ex had signed a contract to help me get back on my feet, until October. He chose not to pay some of it, & kept making excuses. Since he has a habit of doing this, I took him to court. He agreed that he hadn't paid, that he was in the wrong. My evidence of this was overwhelming, so he really didn't have much choice. Had a good discussion after the hearing.

NANCY, IT IS A SHAME THEY ARE MISSING---I HATE LOSING FRIENDS HERE ON SPARK AND HAVING NO WAY TO CONTACT THEM EVER AGAIN. AND I LOVE WHEN THEY COME BACK! WOOOHOOO TO THOSE TOMATOES.
KIM, GLAD THINGS WENT WELL AND THAT YOU WILL SOON GET SOME MONEY COMING IN TO HELP OUT.
EVELYN, THOSE BEANS WILL TASTE GOOD NO MATTER WHAT---JUST USE THE JUICE YOU COOK THEM IN TO PUREE THEM. HOW MUCH LONGER WILL YOU HAVE TO DO THIS?
HOT AND HUMID ARE COMING BACK HERE--YUCK---BUT I ENJOYED THE COOLER WEATHER WHILE IT LASTED. FLOWERS LOVED THE RAIN AND COOLER TEMPS, TOO. THEY LOOK SO BRIGHT AND CHEERFUL AND REALLY FILLED OUT. HOPING WE WILL GET SOME RAIN THAT IS POSSIBLE WITH THIS HEAT.

Court went well today. A peaceful and amicable resolution was made. I may not see any money for a few weeks, but once the garnishment paperwork goes through things will be ok.

I read this thread nearly every day. I'm like Santa, I'm always watching lol. Be well, everyone

JUST POPPING IN TO SAY HOWDY! WANTED TO TELL YOU WHAT THE FAMILY GOT ME FOR ME BIRTHDAY! THE GRANDGIRLS GOT ME A PAIR OF PINK FLYSWATTERS ( I THINK THAT WAS FROM THE 4 YR OLD) HEHE, AND A SOLAR GARDEN PIC OF A HUMMINGBIRD! BEAUTIFUL! AND A GARDEN FLAG WITH A ROW OF BIRDHOUSES PICTURED ON IT! LOVELY! DS GAVE ME A SEASON OF "GET SMART" AND "MACGYVER" DVD'S AND A LONGHANDLED LIGHTER ( FOR CANDLES OR GRILL). HE SAID I WAS HARD TO BUY FOR, BUT WHERE HE CAME UP WITH THOSE IDEAS, I HAVE NO IDEA!! HEHE IT WAS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS! DH BROUGHT ME A GORGEOUS HIBISCUS PLANT THAT POPPED INTO BLOOM HOURS AFTER HE PRESENTED IT TO ME!! I THINK IT WAS JUST LOVELY. WE (DH, DS,DD AND 2 DGDS AND ME) WENT TO TEXAS ROAD HOUSE FOR SUPPER THEN CAME HOME TO CAKE AND ICE CREAM. BLEW ANY GOOD EATING OUT OF THE WATER, BUT YOU ONLY GET ONE BIRTHDAY A YEAR, SO I DON'T CARE.
HOPE Y'ALL HAVE HAD A LOVELY WEEKEND. WE ARE CLOUDY AND COOL AGAIN SO FAR TODAY. LOTS OF RAIN AND STORMS DOWN SOUTH AND EAST OF US AROUND CHARLOTTE, LOOKS LIKE WE MAY GET SOME LATER AND I SURE HOPE WE ONLY GET THE RAIN AND NO WIND OR LIGHTENING! TIME WILL TELL.
HOPE Y'ALL ARE WELL. TAKE CARE. SORRY THERE ARE NOT SO MANY BEING ACTIVE LATELY. I KNOW I DON'T GET IN HERE AS MUCH AS I'D LIKE. I'LL TRY TO DO BETTER, BUDDIES!! ((HUGS))

OH, THAT MAKES SENSE---PUREEING FOOD IS NO FUN---I HAD TO DO THAT FOR MY MOM AFTER THE STROKE---SHE COULD HAVE THICKENED STUFF BUT NOTHING CHEWABLE OR THIN---IT WAS A PAIN---BUT i LEARNED TO BE CREATIVE---I USED GRAVY TO ADD A BIT OF FLAVOR AND LIQUID OFTEN.
NANCY, I JUST DON'T THINK SPARK IS THAT BUSY ANYMORE---THOSE CHANGES MADE A LOT OF PEOPLE MAD. ALTHOUGH WE DO TEND TO BE LESS BUSY IN THE SUMMER, TOO.

JAYNE, GLAD YOU ARE ENJOYING YOUR BIRTHDAY IN STAGES----MAKES IT LAST LONGER---MY BOYS DON'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT MINE SO NOT MUCH CELEBRATION HERE.
NANCY, GLAD YOU FOUND SOME ONE WHO WILL DIG THAT THING UP---SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING WE HAVE THAT GROWS HERE---HARD TO GET RID OF, TOO. I KNOW YOU WILL BE A HAPPY TO HAVE SOME ROSES GROWING AGAIN. AND GOOD IDEA TO CHANGE THE TEAM AVATAR MORE OFTEN---LOTS OF DIFFERENT FLOWERS TO FEATURE.
EVELYN, I AM SURPRISED THAT YOU CAN DRINK 8 OZ. OF WATER AT ONE TIME---I THOUGHT YOU COULD ONLY DRINK ABOUT 4---ISN'T THE 8 OZ STRETCHING OUT WHAT THEY DID? YUCK TO BABY FOOD--WHEN CAN YOU EAT REAL FOOD AGAIN?
HAD A LOVELY DAY YESTERDAY WITH MY WALK WITH MY FRIEND AND THEN OUT TO LUNCH WITH THE CHURCH LADIES---NICE TO GET OUT TO ENJOY MYSELF---I MISS BEING AROUND OTHER PEOPLE---THAT IS WHY I AM NOT THRILLED IN THE SUMMER---TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS AND NOT MANY PEOPLE TO CHAT WITH. AND SPARK IS REALLY SLOW ANYMORE---NOT MANY PEOPLE POSTING ON A LOT OF TEAMS

I SPOKE TO THE MAN ACROSS THE STREET TO CUT THE WHATEVER IT IS BY THE SIDE OF THE ENTRANCE STAIRS DOWN TO THE GROUND.. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED IT WAS A BAD WEED THAT WAS NEVER TAKEN OUT. NOW THE TRUNK IS ABOUT 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND IS ALWAYS FULL OF BUGS, I HAVE TRIMMED IT TWICE THIS YEAR AND IT IS FULL AGAIN, NO FLOWERS JUST LEAVES.. AFTER IT IS CUT NEXT SATURDAY THE MAN DOWNSTAIRS SAID HE WOULD DIG IT OUT,, IF HE DOES AND I DON'T HAVE TO USE ROUND UP ,,THERE WILL BE ROSES THERE THE FOLLOWING WEEK. GRANT YOU THEY WILL NOT FLOWER THIS YEAR.. MY GIRLFRIEND HAS WILD ROSES GALORE, SHE GAVE MY DAUGHTER 4 TWIGS LAST FALL AND 3 HAVE FLOWERED, THE FOURTH IS GREEN SO THAT HAS CAUGHT TOO,

HEHE THE KIDS BOUGHT ME PRESENTS AND CAN'T WAIT TO GIVE THEM TO ME! (I WAS LIKE THAT AS A KID....(.MY MOM GOT HER PRESENTS AS MUCH AS 2 WEEKS EARLY B/C I COULDN'T WAIT TO SEE HER REACTION!)
HOPE Y'ALL ARE WELL. I AM ENJOYING THE LAST DAY OF 70 DEGREES FOR AWHILE.

EVELYN, YOU BE CAREFUL---DO WHAT THE DOCTOR SAYS---BUT ISN'T IT HARD TO TAKE PILLS WHEN YOU HAVE TO LIMIT YOUR WATER INTAKE?
NANCY, I KNOW, WEATHER IS ALL OVER THE PLACE HERE, TOO---BUT I HAVE ENJOYED THE COOLER TEMPS WHILE I COULD---THE TOMATOES ARE SMALL BUT TASTY. I NEVER SEEM TO HAVE MUCH LUCK IN GETTING LARGE TOMATOES TO GROW---GUESSING THE WATER INTAKE IS NOT HELPING.
JAYNE, GLAD YOU HAD A BREAK FROM HIGH TEMPS AND A NICE SLOW RAIN TO SOAK INTO THE GROUND. I HAD TO MOW THE LAWN YESTERDAY---IT HAD ONLY BEEN 6 DAYS SINCE I LAST DID IT, TOO---BUT ALL THE RAIN EARLIER THIS WEEK REALLY MADE IT GROW QUICKLY.
WALKED THIS MORNING---HAD TO WEAR MY BRACE ON MY KNEE---IT WASN'T FEELING RIGHT YESTERDAY AND MOWING DID NOT HELP. GOING OUT TO LUNCH WITH CHURCH LADIES TODAY---NICE CHANGE OF PACE FOR ME. HUMIDITY IS COMING BACK---SIGH---BUT I ENJOYED THE OTHER DAYS.

It' been cooler here too and I'm enjoying it although it was a bit too low last night - only 8C (46F). Will be opening windows this afternoon. Never thought of it this morning before I headed out to the pool. After swimming I went to the furniture store where I bought my TV a few years ago. One of the salespeople was able to find on his computer how to hook up my Bell Satellite remote to my tv without having a list of codes - Bell didn't know how - I asked 4 different people!??? (For non Canadians - Bell is the biggest phone/satellite/internet group in the country). So, now I can use the remote to do it all. The way they left it set up on the weekend I had to get up and go across the room to turn it on and off and to adjust the volume. Not a good idea with this bad knee. I did try to find the same information on Google last night but was stymied at every try. I spent over an hour. A couple of times I got into ask.com and a couple of other type sites and rather than opening an article it opened a new window full of lists of other possibles and selecting one of those repeated the same over and over and over. So frustrating.

I was going to go into the basement and do some laundry this afternoon but my DH said no way I was doing the stairs today and he will do it when he gets home from work - I am sooooo lucky! He brought up the items I needed from the freezer while he was downstairs after taking the laundry down to be done later. Last night he cleaned up any weeds or dead leaves in the new lily bed and this morning when I came out to leave for the pool I discovered he'd loaded my oversized gym bag into the car for me. Even after 12 years of marriage I am surprised at each thing he does for me. I spent 22 years on my own and had a horrible first marital experience. Every day I count my lucky stars and the few times I am annoyed about something at home, I try to remind myself of how things used to be.

No new flowers out today that I see but there are lots of lily plants that have yet to bloom. Can't wait to see what they are going to look like. Happy gardening everyone.

Biggest problem with roses right now, is that in the last week NE Ohio has been hit with a scourge of Japanese beetles. The area is also partly shade to shade, woodland. I'll have to get some more info on the area, thinking native plants, Virginia bluebells, that kind of thing. Anyway, I have a month or 2 before I have to start ordering plants.

SPARK needs to learn to leave well enough alone *sigh*

Hi all,

I'm still alive and kicking. Been steadily busy. Going to be needing some help soon, deciding what type of plants I want in the (cat) memorial garden. I know I want tulips & daffodils. But, the rest is up in the air. Hope all is well.

Message from SPARK---
We'll be making a small change on the Start page tomorrow, and I just wanted to give you a heads up. Some of you asked about the wheel disappearing this week from the left side of the page. We are going to move the link to spin the wheel as well as the total SparkPoints for the day over to the right side of the page under Step 1. It will still be very visible and still serve as a good reminder to spin.

To access your team bonus points, you will have to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on SparkAmerica Team Bonus Points under Step 3.

THAT SOUNDS LOVELY---NEEDING A JACKET, THAT IS!
LIN, SOUNDS LIKE QUITE A FEW LILIES---I GOT SOME NEW ONES BUT DON'T REMEMBER THEIR NAMES--I JUST PLANT THEM IN DIFFERENT AREAS AND THEN I AM SURPRISED WHEN THE COLORS SHOW---LOL---I HAD A LOVELY PINK ONE BLOOM THIS YEAR THAT I REALLY LIKE. AND I HAVE ONE THAT KEEPS GROWING TO ABOUT 5 FEET TALL---I HAVE TO PUT A TOMATO CAGE AROUND IT TO SUPPORT IT AS THE BLOOMS ON IT ARE HUGE. HOPE THE PT HELPS TODAY
EVELYN, HOPE THE DOCTOR IS HAPPY ---LET US KNOW HOW MUCH WEIGHT YOU HAVE LOST SINCE THE SURGERY.
WE HAD A BIG STORM COME THRU LAST NIGHT---MY CATS WENT AND HID IN MY BEDROOM---GLAD FOR THE RAIN AND WE SHOULD GET RAIN FOR MOST OF THE MORNING HERE---THEN CLEAR OFF AND HAVE COOLER TEMPS. wHAT IS REALLY FUNNY IS THAT THE TEMPS FOR THE NEXT WEEK ARE LOWER THAN NORMAL AND THE DELAWARE STATE FAIR STARTS ON FRIDAY---USUALLY THE 10 DAYS OF THE FAIR ARE THE HOTTEST TIME OF THE SUMMER, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL ACTUALLY BE DECENT FOR IT THIS YEAR.
ENJOY THE COOLER TEMPS THAT SOME OF US ARE GETTING---RAIN IF YOU NEED IT--AND JUST KEEP MOVING.

Lecates and Nancy - you are right about the fear of falling with the knee. I've been using the cane right from the first morning of the pain. I have lots of them from the past 10 years with my heart. I hadn't needed one since Jan but I'm used to them. I tend to put too much weight on the cane though and my shoulder on that side gets sore. The bike I was referring to at Rehab has foot rests and you can either pedal with your feet or put them on the foot rest keeping it straight out. That's what I've been doing - bad leg is on foot rest and good one is pedalling on it's own while my hands work the elliptical part. The only strain on the knee is getting the leg over the centre supports of the bike and getting up on the seat. I tried a bit of a jog this am in the pool but no go yet. I did some walking though and my upper body exercises.

Evelyn - hope you soon recover. Pain meds are good - got any to spare? lol I used to be allowed Percocet for pain but only 30 tablets a year. I have Crohn's and they say that you get too used to the lack of pain on the meds that people with chronic permanent pain get addicted quickly so only 30. But, it's become such a popular street drug I read in the paper that it's no longer available by prescription - people were selling them like crazy.

Lecates - I can just imagine the bill for your husband's anesthetic. I had to pay for mine when I had dental surgery but fortunately it was a short surgery. Nancy's right - we have good government plans here but in the last 15 years or so, more and more things are no longer covered. For eg. the procedure I had to have in January in place of Open Heart Surgery isn't covered - it's considered too innovative (been doing in Canada about 5 years) and preventative (don't know where that part comes from but a lot of surgery is to prevent future trauma of not having the surgery). It had to be paid for by the hospital's foundation (fortunately for me as it was $36,000). Without the surgery I would have gotten worse and worse until I died. With the normal open heart surgery, they figure my heart was too weak to withstand it and I would have most likely died. Go figure the government's reasoning.

Evelyn - great news that you are up and moving about - so important to recovery from any surgery. The first walk outside was probably very difficult but good for you!

Lecates - enjoy that tomato when it's ready. I bought a potted plant this year about a foot high and put it in my garden. I've only got 2 tomatoes on it! Any suggestions for getting it to produce more? I read on my on-line gardening group here in Peterborough that if you sprinkle baking soda around the plant on the dirt that it will sweeten the fruit and make it less acidic.. We put in a single cucumber plant and it seems to be going nuts. The leaves are about 6" across and there are the beginnings of 7 cucumbers on the vine but today I noticed that the first one has shriveled up - not good. I hope the rest are ok. We put it in for my grandson and he runs to check it every time they are over here.

Nancy it poured really really hard here Sun. Mon, although looked like rain all day, none appeared. Today there has been a gentle rain early and it is clouding over again now at 1 pm. At least it hasn't been as humid the last few days here.

Nancy - if the bleach didn't work for the cat urine odor - try vinegar. It should neutralize the urine. As an added bonus, cats don't like the smell of vinegar and it may help keep them away. Chili Powder and/or Cayenne pepper will keep cats, dogs, and squirrels away. I use it all the time to keep them out of my planters. If I forget to renew it after a rain though, they are right back! You have a dog - it may keep it from crossing it to go down the stairs as well.
Years ago when living in Thunder Bay, our dog got sprayed by a skunk and I was able to buy a powder in a 2-tone pink box called Odor Mute. Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere anymore. One spoonful in a bucket of water we used to wash a 70 lb dog and all you could smell was a faint bit when she got wet after that. We used it too on a freezer that had died while we were away on holiday and a wash inside the freezer with a water mixture cleaned the horrid rancid meat smell right out of the plastic lining of the freezer. I did find it online once but the company wouldn't sell it to an individual and couldn't tell me where I could buy it as they sell it to a distributor. I've had people look in the States for me with no luck. I once stopped cats from using my front garden for a litter box by putting in large chunks of wooden mulch - the large pieces hurt their feet and they avoided it.

I hear ya Lecates about summer weather and not being a summer person. A far as gardening goes, I love the summer but I hate extreme heat temps but then I hate extreme cold temps as well! These days I'm anxiously checking our new lily garden out front. So far I've had lots of blooms on the Stella de Oros (3 of them) and 2 days ago one called Castles in the Air started blooming and yesterday one called Beautiful Edges. I've got more that have bloomed in the backyard a well - 4 of my 5 Stella type miniatures as well as Fooled Me, Early Bird Cardinal, Blueberry Sundae, and Ruby Spider. Night Beacon and Primal Scream should bloom in a week or so.

Sorry message so long - lot of catching up to do. We changed internet providers (as well as tv satellite and home phone) on Fri. but the internet gave them problems and all the wiring had to be replaced from the pole to the computer and it took 3 technicians to figure it out. The one that came on Sun got it going finally. My laptop was new in Dec just past and a couple of days ago, the S started sticking. I have to keep going back and either putting a missing one in or deleting an extra one. It doesn't look like anything could be stuck in around the key - hopefully it will work itself out or I'll be visiting Staples Store. Have a good week all - I'm off to Heart Rehab. Lindsay the nurse running it had to fit me into more classes as I missed a few weeks when I had a cold and then my DGS had chickenpox. So, instead of 12:45-1:45 it's 2-3. Ohhh better run. Bye.

I would love to have those temps right now--I know the middle of the country is really dipping due to polar air---you can send it my way---LOL Actually, looking at the long range temps for the next 7 days, ours are lower than normal---the Delaware State Fair starts this weekend and it is usually the hottest 10 days of the summer--up in the 90's--but right now no temps that high in the forecast at all---highly unusual.

We got some rain last night, but now we are going into some unseasonably cool weather. 71 degrees for a high in the middle of July! Certainly not typical.

I POURED SOME BLEACH ON THE GALLERY THIS MORNING. AS WE ALL KNOW THE SMELL OF CAT'S PEE IS HARD TO GET RID OF, MY GRAND DAUGHTER WORKS AS A VET TECHNICIAN AND SHE IS GOING TO ASK WHAT I CAN USE, WORSE PART IS THAT I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE CAT PEED. I HAVE A 9 FOOT LONG BY 5 FOOT WIDE GALLERY

STILL NICE AND SUNNY HERE WITH A GOOD BREEZE.

IT IS COOL AND A GOOD BREEZE RIGHT NOW BUT IT WON'T LAST

I HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING THAT WILL KILL THE SMELL OF CAT PEE. MY FRONT GALLERY SEEMS TO BE A GOOD MEETING PLACE OVERNIGHT. I HAD PUT UP A RAILING (THE SIDE OF A BABY CRIB) CROSSWAYS SO AS MY DOG WOULD NOT GO DOWNSTAIRS WHILE I WAS SITTING OUT THERE BUT I SAY A CAT KNOCKED IT OVER LAST NIGHT AND GOT SCARED SO HAD A PEE, VERY STRONG SMELL OUT THERE THIS MORNING. I THINK FOR NOW I WILL POUR SOME JAVEX BLEACH THERE

GOING TO GET DRESSED AND GO FOR MY WALK BEFORE THE WEATHER CHANGES TOO MUCH
