The first week of May, I will be seeding my lettuce. Our last frost is no later than May 10th so I will wait until then to plant my flower beds.

Last year I had a beautiful vegetable garden, but I let the flower beds go - this year it is too cold here to turn the soil yet, but I am out cleaning up the flower beds and will head those little weed off at the pass! emoticon

I mulch my beds in the fall with shredded leaves, then turn them in in the spring as soon as the ground can be worked. The mulch helps to prevent week seeds from sprouting and adds organic matter to the soil. I have very little trouble with weeds in the spring.

What's growing in my Spring garden? WEEDS. It's a yearly battle every Spring to get them pulled up. It's been too cold to even thing about getting out there every day but I do try. I wish there was some magical way to keep them from showing up. lol

I'm from the southwest edge of the Kansas City, Mo area. Its snowing with lots of accumulation expected, so the normal spring planting is being delayed. Usually I would have planted my early spring veggies by now but its been too wet to turn the soil and the soil is still too cold. Darn that ground hog!!! 6 weeks ago it was looking like I might be able to plant early but now its already a week past normal lettuce planting date. I have a whole list of spring veggie seeds sitting in a plastic container waiting to be planted, lettuces spinach, radishes carrots etc. I have started a number of things indoors, tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos, eggplant, broccoli, artichokes and will be starting some squashes, melons and gourds soon. That is if it ever quits snowing and warms up. Come on spring I'm ready to go play in the dirt!

MMM those tomatoes sound delicious. I love an old fashioned tomato sandwich with homegrown tomatoes and lt mayo. My great grandmother taught me to garden when I was still a toddler. She gave me some heirloom little white cucumber seeds. They are the only cucumbers I will eat. They are from a line that her mother grew and has been passed down but I dont know exactly how to preserve the seeds. Im worried I will run out.

In the southwestern Kansas City area, our average last day of frost (50/50) is April 14th, and I have already planted the more hardy bulbs.

The current forecast was for snow to start about 8pm and accumulate through about noon tomorrow from 7-9" It actually started to snow at 3pm and we now have over an inch on the ground.

I usually go with some cantaloupe, watermelon, a little green onion and some regular white onions, cucumbers, some bell peppers and tomatoes. An acquaintance gave me some German Black Tomatoes last year and I'm going to start those in about a week in my garage with an adjustable heat lamp and a plant lite. I also keep them draped with plastic with holes in it. The Black Tomatoes we had last year were noticeably sweeter than Any red tomato I've ever had.

My wife does NOT like tomatoes (unless they are in spaghetti or some other pasta dish or in an American modified Mexican dish), and she even ate them as a side dish.

I have some tomatoes that are coming up on their own when I throw out some tomatoes that were going bad too fast and now I see that I have a couple of plants from it.

Not a thing yet. Last frost isn't until May here in Indiana. Just ordered a couple tomato plants. Need to get the list going of all seeds we need to replace this year. Right now we are under a winter storm watch waiting for it to turn into a warning. Calling for 6" wet, heavy by Monday afternoon. Suppose to start tomorrow afternoon.

I live in Western NC and am getting ready to plant our early spring veggie garden. Got spinach greens, broccoli, broccili rabe, *maybe* carrots, kale, spagetti squash, bok choy, and head cabbage so far. Then going to make a mini salad gaerden in a planter box on the porch with varieties of lettuces (bibb is my favorite), radishes, chives, and then a tommy toe tomatoe plant in a container later in the season. What is everyone else planting now?????
