I don't like to reread books and I tried audible books and couldn't concentrate. I did find listening to short stories while on the exercise bike worked good. So I got one of the classics Mom had read me as a child that I just vaguely remembered. I have been playing it chapter by chapter , just the way Mom read it, while I ride. Yes it is a man's voice reading, but in my mind I'm sitting with my sisters around Mom's chair by the fire listening to the story. She must have read it to us during the winter.

Fee is hoping to lose her baby weight some time, so doesn't want to resize the rings just yet, and doesn't like the feel of the rings on a chain, so I think she may just leave them off for a bit.

We are making a quick dash across to France next week, to pick out a new bathroom suite for the house. The renovations are proceeding slowly, but apparently all the old heating system is out now. Unfortunately the electrician can't get to us till "late summer" whenever that might be, so the plumber is asking around. So no hot water or heating for some considerable time yet probably, and it will still be an exciting procedure turning on the mains electricity every time we go there.

Good afternoon, A beautiful day. It was frosty this morning, now I'm in a tee shirt with the windows open. The weather person says to enjoy this weather. Winter will be back on monday

I only worked 4 yours today. This might be the last week I have short days. Right now they have to pay the temp agency, they want to by out me contract and make me an employee. Then I can work 20 hours a week for the payroll company and 20 hours a week for the bookkeeping company. In case you are wondering why I am hit and miss getting on, I have 3 monitors connected to two computers on my desk. Sometimes when i get home the last thing I want to see is a computer.

She needs to either get the rings resized or put then on a chain around her neck.

That's sweet though. Glad he caught the cancer at such an early stage. Does he have to have any follow--up treatment?

Daughter lost her wedding and engagement rings after a meal out on Valentine's Day, but has just posted on FB that she has found them again. Such a relief, as I know how I would have felt had it happened to me. Her fingers have got fatter so she moved the rings to her little finger, but they are too big for it and they have a tendency to slip.

Good evening.yesterday I walked the dogs in a tee shirt. At 5 this morning we had the days high now I need a jacket, the wind is blowing and I'l have to go between showers.

A week ago DH went to the Dr because he had a sore on his hand that wasn't healing. The Dr did a biopsy. Today he went back to see the Dr. It was stage 1 skin cancer, and the Dr cut a good size piece out of his hand. I came home from work and the poor man was all upset. I told him look it was stage 1, the DR cut it out, it's gone. He looked at me and said, "I know, but he said I couldn't use my hand or get it wet for 24 hours so now you have to do the dishes tonight and fix breakfast in the morning." DH is retired, I'm not and he does everything he can so I don't have 2 jobs, but give me a break. I think I can load the dishwasher tonight and fix breakfast in the morning.

I've been asked to beta read for my published author again, this is about the fourth book of hers I've done, so I guess she must like me. Only thing is that she needs it done by the 20th and she hasn't sent the file yet. Good job I'm retired.

Good morning and Happy Valentine's Day. I called Mom this morning to wish her a happy Valentine's Day. She isn't doing to well. Mom went for a 3 mile walk on an old runway. She was a mile and half in and turning around when the weather changed. She was walking into a bright sun with 20 mile an hour winds. Mom says she got home and her face was burnt. She doesn't know if it is wind burn or sun burn or a combination, but it doesn't feel good and looks worse. Mom says she is lathering moisturizers on several times a day and this is making the hair around her face very oily. She says she will be a sight for church tomorrow. She is the minister so no hiding, she will be front and center.

Evening, Well I made it though Friday the 13th. Everything that could go wrong did. well everything at work has been going wrong Friday the 13th wasn't any different. I guess thy could have gotten a payroll program that was less user friendly, but it would be a stretch. I went in this morning with 2 simple things that needed to be done and left with 3 big things that had me totally stumped. I felt bad about it at first till my boss called the company and they told her if she wanted to do that she needed to, 3 pages of instructions later we could try and fix the problem. There just weren't enough hours in the day.

Lunch time is normally reading time, except today my boss kept texting me. Sometimes I miss the days when it took some effort to ask someone something.

I don't know about snow, i saw it once. Well I've seen flurries 4 or 5 times, but snow that hit the ground and accumulated. only once.

You used to be able to rely on snow in Wales every year - our store cupboard has bread flour and yeast and our freezer has milk and basics so we don't run out if we can't get out for a few days - but we haven't needed any of it for a couple of years.

I found out yesterday that the only part of the US that is on the same latitude as the UK is Alaska. That was a bit of a surprise. Thank heaven for the Gulf Stream, eh? It's dull, damp and dismal today, and I feel much the same. I need to get on with my editing, but am finding lots of things to do instead, reading books on how to edit, that sort of thing.

Good morning, A very foggy morning, but then that is normal. Mutt and I have gone from our morning walk. Yesterday I wore a tee shirt to walk the dogs, today I wore a hoody. Now to do laundry and walk the Duke.

I know it has been hit and miss as to weather or not I'm here. I haven't gotten into a good routine since I started back to work. I'm not working the same everyday, I don't know day to day what I'm working the next day and sometimes i go in thinking I'm working 4 hours and work 8. But this is because this is a start up company and they are trying to keep cost down till they have paying customers and it is taking more time than they thought to get the software up and running. I think I'm off the next 2 days, going back Friday and then off for the weekend.

I have several copies of many books, mostly from downloading it in several places. With Smashwords, I can download the book in several formats and have. Music is the same way, I have the song in several places. I don't call that pirating, I don't think anyone does. Not if you got it legally to start with.

Yes, pirating music or books seems to some people like a victimless crime, though of course it isn't. The only copies of things I possess are ones where I have the original but in a different format. In fact a lot of times I end up buying in different formats because I've forgotten I already bought it. This is why I tend now to stick entirely to Kindle, because then I know I haven't already got the book. Some lucky authors have made a bit extra from me like that.

"The most important things to do in the world are to get something to eat, something to drink, and somebody to love you."

Good morning, We had a foggy start, but a beautiful day now. I took it easy yesterday. I did my exercise time, but just walked. No bike, stairs or rowing Mutt and I walked before breakfast this morning and I did 15 min on the bike, I'll walk Duke in a few and Mutt again after dark, but not pushing today. It would be so nice to walk the two together, but neither will walk on my left because of my staff and they both want to walk beside me. Two big dogs pushing each other out of the way don't make for a very nice walk. Yes my dogs walk beside me, never ahead of me.

I don't understand a lot about pirating books. I have talked to some others about it. My problem is music, but people that have problems with pirates were talking about educating the public. It seams that a big part of the problem is that many people, that would never steal under normal circumstance, think that if it is on the internet it is ok. Stealing would be going into a bookstore and taking a book.

From what I've heard the problem of pirating non-DRM books is minor - most pirates can strip it out with no problem in any case so it's a bit of a waste of time and mostly annoys legitimate readers. When I publish I'm not going to bother with it. calibre can remove epub DRM and I've done that to old books I had in that format, but MS Reader is so old now I've not so far been able to find something to remove DRM from it. If it gets crucial I'll ask my son if he knows how. calibre is a great utility for translating between formats otherwise.

Good Morning, I worked 12 hours yesterday and didn't get home till after I'm normally in bed. I spent the day sitting at a desk so why does my body feel like I was beat up? Well when i had a break, lunch and before work i did do the stairs, 26 flights all together, but I have been doing the stairs and my legs aren't what is bothering me.

It was 38 when i took Mutt for his morning walk. We are going for the high 60's maybe 70.

Can calabrie change them to Mobi. I'm told there is another proem that can get rid of DTM, but I don't know it, I know authors don't like it because pirates use it to steal and sell their books.

I used to read MS Reader books on my PDA - remember those? Precursor to the tablet, but they used MS Mobile programming. MS stopped supporting the reader years ago, which left me with 3000 titles on an obsolete platform. Some of them can be translated into Kindle, but quite a lot are DRM protected, so I have to hope that my remaining computer which has the reader program on it keeps working for a long time. I can't afford to replace even the ones I really, really like.

Had a good meeting with my creative writing group yesterday. We were brainstorming (if I can use that term any more) plots, and I got some really good suggestions for the sequel to my 2013 NaNo novel. This might turn into my 2015 NaNo novel.

Goof afternoon, I yucky day, cold and damp, not even any sun t brighten things up.

My job is entrusting, never a dull moment. I spend quite a bit of time with ok now we need to do this, but how. It is new soft wear and no one knows. I just try things till something works. The office is on the 3rd floor of a 6 story building and the roads are suck that if I leave the house 65 min before I need to be there, I'm 30 min early. If I leave 60 min before I need to be there, I get there 5 min before I need to be there. Well it isn't the roads so much as school busses and school zones. So I leave 65 min before I need to be there and spend 30 min going up and down stairs. Well not so much yesterday because my calfs hurt so bad. I had been concerned about the dress code. Well it looks like most of the office wears black slacks, bright blouses in bold prints and a couple strings of beads. well black slacks i have plenty of, most of my blouses are solid colors, and i don't have many strings of beads, but I think I'll be fine.

I've never read anything in MS reader. I can't say I even knew it existed. But then I didn't read e readers till the Dr said I couldn't carry books in my purse any more.

I'm reading some old e-books, so old that they're in MS Reader, not Kindle Mobi. Liz Carlyle My False Heart and A Woman Scorned. The latter has a really excellent beginning, a text-book example of how to do a prologue with a good hook.

When they had campaigns like "Cycle to work" I always used to ask how. I had to go 30 miles, and public transport would have taken about 3 hours, bearing in mind neither start nor finish was in a city centre.

Success isn't permanent, and failure isn't fatal.

Good morning, Mutt and I didn't get our walk this morning. It was raining just hard enough I wasn't walking in 40 degree weather. I did do 30 min on the stationary bike. I'm leaving a little early for work today. Yesterday I had 4 school busses, 2 school zones, and a train.

Just saw in the Today's show that a guy has been walking 25 miles to work, and 25 miles home again 5 days a week for 20 years. I'm not sure what he does besides walk.

If all else fails, read the manual.

Another cold day, the recumbent bike at the gym has a loose pedal which caused me a lot of pain after 10 minutes yesterday, so today I did some work on the resistance machines instead. I'm gearing myself up to tackling revisions on my very first manuscript, which I've not looked at in over a year. Maybe that's enough distance.

Good afternoon, I'm back from work. I'll only be working 20 hours a week this week and maybe next. I spent the morning reading software books and comparing it to the computer. She had installed new software and no one had had time to look at it. It took about an hour, but I got her the report she needed the most and figured out how to get the rest.

Sunshine today. Unfortunately the yew trees in the churchyard opposite are so huge that our house is completely in their shadow at this time of the year. In France on holiday one year we visited Les Ifs Millenaires, yew trees which are over a thousand years old. I don't think somehow we're going to get out of the shadow any time soon.

I've become quite a fan of some of the people I've done beta reading for. It's the ultimate accolade if I can tell them I would have paid real money to read their books.

Good morning, I woke to another fog adverse today. Mutt and I took our morning walk in the fog. Tat kind of limits where we go since I don't want to be on the main road. For 3 days Mutt and I have gotten 6,000 steps before breakfast, except DH says Mutt got 12,000, he has 4 feet. I might have to lower my step goal a little but looks like I'm ready for work.

I love reading a author no one ever heard of, then watching as hey are all the rage several years laterI prefer the ones that stay indy authors, I have seen publishing house mess up some really good authors by making them conform to what the publishing house thinks people want.

My daughter does a bit of editing now, leading on from her proofreading work - it's a lot less about catching typos these days apparently. She's done three books now, I think it comes out around £500 per normal length book, which is near enough $800. She's picked up things like not changing the French president's name when the year the novel was set in was changed, and querying whether you could get radio reception in the Pyrenees during the war, as well as plot holes. Me, I just do beta reading, usually for free, which is kind of similar. I feel good when I read for someone unknown who is a good writer just starting out.

Think not. Do.

"Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will."
– George Bernard Shaw

Good morning, I'm doing better today. The temp agency called and reminded my I start work on Monday, as if I could forget. My hair has settled down and is more waves then curls. Since I don't know the lunchroom setup, I went to the store and got things that don't need heated up that I can eat for lunch and snacks.

I've been getting up early and walking Mutt before breakfast to get back in the swing of things. This morning, the owls were calling each other and everyone in a while you would hear a rooster in the back ground. On the way back it was the other way around, mostly you hear the roosters and every once in awhile an owl would chime in. It was about 5 and Mutt had to water a mailbox so we got off the road. Mutt was done and we where just getting back on the road when the lady across the street shown the brightest light on us. Are you OK out there? Yes, just walking the dog. I know that I watch you walk by every morning, but I've never seen you stop before. I didn't know she had ever seen us, It must be 5 years since I've seen her, and Mutt does have his places to stop and this wasn't one of them, but when you need to water a mailbox, you need to water a mailbox. Good to know someone is watching me in the morning.

If you are looking to make some money, most indy authors are looking for people to edit their books. I know one author told me it cost close to $800 each time she released a book and most of that was editors.

Good luck with the new job.

I've been overwhelmed with e-mails recently. I've been signing up for webinars and free videos, both writing and business. The business ones have given me good ideas - writing and selling books is a business, right? But there's an awful lot of them, even sticking with the free ones.

Daughter has had stage one of a tooth implant, which meant one of us driving her to town, the other staying home with the children. It wasn't nearly as much trouble as she thought, so she's got a cupboard full of cans of soup and rice pudding she didn't need. Still, that's good.

Think not. Do.

Alice Thinks Sometimes Maybe Perhaps

Morning, Daddy passed 3 years ago Monday, I'm not sure why but I'm taking it harder his year. I want to get myself for my new job Monday, so I'm letting myself have this time and just going though the motions of everything else.

It is bad luck to be superstitious.

Alice Thinks Sometimes Maybe Perhaps

Good morning. It is very foggy here, but we will have another nice day. Tomorrow another cold front moves in, well not so much cold, just taking us back to normal this time of the year.

Yesterday I went on a job interview. I was worried about it. Not so much about the requirements, but the dress code. Full suit, heels, stockings only jewelry, pearls and stud earrings. Light makeup, no perfume. Well, I wore a full suit, I have never worn heels, makeup or perfume. It turned out they had asked for very professional dress. Their idea of very professional dress and the temp co's idea of very professional dress for a bookkeeping office are too different ideas. They wanted business caesural, more towards the business end. In other words they wanted me to look like I would normally dress to work in an office. Anyway I got the job, I start Monday. It is further out then I wanted, but I wasn't finding anything close.

I looked up 3 more groups that made wigs for cancer patients, non of them wanted white hair Even the one that made wigs for people over 40 didn't want white hair, but they said they would take hair with less then 50% gray. And here I thought they just wanted hair, but they all say they don't die the hair and there is no call for white hair.

"The individual is capable of both great compassion and great indifference. He has it within his means to nourish the former and outgrow the latter."

Good morning, Mutt and I got an early walk then i went and had 14 inches of my hair cut.

I had planned on sending it to lucks of love and discovered they didn't want white hair, they only made wigs for children and they didn't color the hair. Someone told me there was a group that was like Locks for Love but made wigs of people over 40. I'll Have to find out about them.

My hair isn't cut quite like I wanted, but then the lady cutting it couldn't cut it like I wanted. When I was little I had a head of curls, Then the curls fell out till beauticians said it was hard to believe I ever had curls, my hair was so straight. When this lady too the first cut, she said I didn't tell her my hair was so wavy, it bounced up shorter then she expected. Well now it is the length I asked for, except it is wavy, so if you pull it out it is about 2 inches longer then I wanted. Oh well looks like my curls want to make a comeback and it is growing on me.

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled."
– Plutarch

Good morning, DH is walking around singing "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood". Mutt and I are getting ready for our walk and enjoy the sun.

On the Todays show they asked that we send in pictures of the weather in our neck of the woods. I would tweet them a picture of me wearing a tee shirt walking the dog, but this grandma doesn't know how to tweet. DGS got me on FB, I almost learned it and decided it was a waist of time. I guess they serve a purpose but I don't know what it is.

When you get free books you don't always know what your getting. I got quite a bit of junk when I first started, but lately I've gotten books that were decent. Yes many times they were written for a different audience and since I use free books to learn about differ ace genres, many times they aren't to my liking, but they are decent books. By written for a difference audience, sometimes I'll get a book that doesn't say what age group it is written for and I'll get a book for middle schoolers.

Richard has got into cozy mysteries, and I can rely on him to tell me if any of the ones he reads are worth it. He did complain though about one he paid 99p for, where the killer turned out to be someone introduced in the last chapter. Some of the free ones were better. He didn't recommend the Donna Tartt one "A Little Friend" - you never actually find out whodunnit. I suggested she was trying to be literary.

Exercise relieves stress. Nothing relieves exercise.

Alice Thinks Sometimes Maybe Perhaps

Good afternoon. Another beautiful day. I called my temp agencies today. One I got the normal we will call you if we gat anything, the other had some jobs in a hospital I would love to work in a hospital, just not one making $10 an hour 75 miles away.

One thing about free books. I have read many books I wouldn't normally have spent money on. Yes I do quite a number of them, but I have also found many new authors and genres I didn't think I would like. I have found there are many sub genres I wouldn't have ever looked at because I didn't like the genre, but I enjoyed the sub genre.

I remember the old saying, why learn to program a video recorder when you've got a teenager - I tend to get my son to do some of the techy things for me, and when I publish my book my daughter has already done two of her own, so she can help me. I could learn to do these things, but life is short and I've got better things to do with it.

One of the good things about the Kindle is that you can use either hand to turn the pages, and it only takes one hand. I have been known to read in bed and change hands every so often because the outside hand got cold and needed warming up. Hope your thumb recovers soon.

I somehow have a very sore R thumb, that hurts when I push the Kindle page button.
finally gave up on it, and bot a new Kindle. Can't believe how tiny & light it is! Navigating around on it pretty good, and it's a joy to read. It's like a miracle.

In my old age I procrastinate learning new stuff, feeling like my brain is too fuzzy to follow instructions. My next challenge is figuring out how to use Amazon TV streaming. I thought I had figured it out, cause while my stepson was here he helped me, and I did very well with it. Guess he did some part I wasn't aware of. Oh dear. I want to see some of the oscar possibles. Curious how they did "Gone Girl" as I really enjoyed the book.

Feeling better enough today to eat normally, but not up to doing much. I've been sorting out the books I've read on the tablet or laptop but not removed from the TBR shelf on the Kindle. I've managed to reduce the TBR shelf by a couple of pages already, which makes things a bit better.

There are weapons that are simply thoughts. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy. - Rod Serling, Unitarian Universalist

Alice Thinks Sometimes Maybe Perhaps

Good afternoon, I had big plans for today since the weather is so nice. I got up early, washed cloths and hung the laundry on the line, then life got in the way. Mutt didn't want his carrot last night. I had left it in his crate. When I let him out of his crate, he emptied his water bowl and when I let him outside, instead of going and doing his doggy thing, he tried to empty the galvanized tub the boys use outside. He eat breakfast but slowly, then nibbled on his carrot from last night. The stupid dog has garbage gut again. Then I started a book, I told myself i would read one chapter, They must have skipped chapter heading because when i got to the end on the chapter, I was on chapter 13 and it was time to fix lunch. I read during lunch and figured then I would take Mutt for his walk. When DH came home and asked about Mutt and if I had a good book I looked down and realized i was 98% through the book and it was 2P. I finished the book and Mutt got a 3 mile walk.

Had a bad stomach night before last so did very little yesterday - except Richard insisted I go with him to navigate when he picked up his e-bay purchase. I have to interpret the satnav for him. It actually was in the middle of nowhere, up a tiny narrow road where the snow still lay between the tyre tracks of vehicles that had passed. All that for a tv with built-in video so he can still play the videos he won't get rid of.

Morning 40 and rainy today. There was a break in the rain and Mutt and I got a 30 min walk. My shoulder is doing much better and I'm using it quite a bit just not to it's full extent. I have just enough discomfort that I remember no to over do it.

Good morning, today it is windy and drizzly. I took Mutt for his walk, but my solder isn't up to Duke. Weather periling I'll go out back and play fetch with him.

DH said he was afraid of hurting my shoulder and slept in the guest room last night. I guess it was a good thing. I put the heating pad on one side of the bed and spent all night with my shoulder on the heating pad, then when I got too hot moving to the other side and back and forth. I can now tell you Duke doesn't sleep at night. He bounces that stupid ball off the wall.

That's a good idea about the audio short stories. I'm just worried I might get absorbed in the story and forget to keep walking on the treadmill.

It's still cold and dark here, even though the days are getting a bit longer. We used to have to use headlights coming back from the gym around 4:30, but now we don't need them.

"Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat."
– F. Scott Fitzgerald

Good Afternoon. The sun we were promised never showed up. Since this afternoon is suppose to be nasty, we went to the park to walk this morning. I don't mind walking around here everyday, but DH has been told to go for a walk everyday and he wants to walk some place different everyday.

I was doing some chair exercises, they had a mobility exercise for the arms. I did it and felt fine, but something told me no more. I woke up and can hardly move my right arm. I pulled a muscle in my right shoulder. I'm right handed, I think That's what they tell me anyway, but I do quite a bit left handed. The problem is what I do right handed I can hardly do left handed. I write right handed, if I try left handed you can't read it, I use the mouse and a styles left handed. I can do it right handed but I'm slow. My problem more then not being able to do some things is that my brain has decided that cookies are a great pain deliver.

Last night I decided it was too dangerous to go for a walk, but Mutt couldn't understand. For some reason that I don't understand, a couple guys decided to drag race 4 wheelers down our road after dark without their headlights on. I wear a reflexive vest, but if they don't have their headlights on it won't reflect.

I like audible shorts when I'm on the stationary bike. I get the ones that are the length I ride. then I'm not tempted to watch the time, When I have done my time the story is over.

The Kindle is good for short fiction - doesn't have to be bundled in a whole book full of short stories. Mind, I also like bumper bundles of full-length fiction, which in dead tree form would be impossibly fat and heavy.

"Trust your hunches. They're usually based on facts filed away just below the conscious level."
– Dr. Joyce Brothers

Good morning, it is foggy this morning but the fog should burn off soon and it will be a pretty day with the temps in the low 70's. Today and tomorrow then the rain and cold will be back. I'm thinking about taking Mutt down to the county park. They have a 1 mile trail though the woods. We will do the walk several times. Mutt loves it. OK Mutt loves walks, Mutt loves car rides if they are short, the hound in Mutt loves the woods.

The kindle is great for short reads. Since I don't like being interrupted in the middle of something, I always have a couple books of short stories or a bunch of shorts on my kindle for when I know it will be a short wait.

Just learned that my daughter was given a Kindle for Christmas. What with the children, the house, and her proofreading business she doesn't get a lot of reading time, but she's found she can walk down to meet the school bus and get a bit of reading done - its arrival is a bit of a movable feast, so she might have ten spare minutes at that time.
