I sometimes get asked to beta read historical romances, which means I get to read the book for nothing, although in an unfinished form. A lot of these books are pretty good already. Also I can borrow e-books from Powys Library Service, though the choice isn't great so it's a while since I looked at them. Maybe they've improved; if I ever need something to read I'll have another go at them.

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.

C. S. Lewis

The weather has been nice so have been exercising outside, walking and biking.

Yes I often end up pitching a book when i just get what looks good without worrying about the author, but I get my books for free so I don't lose anything and I have have found some real good authors. One of the authors I found several years ago, that I loved had all of 5 followers on Amazon. After she had sold 500,000 e books as an indie author one of the big publishing houses picked her up.

I buy books by authors I particularly like, but I generally wait until they are reduced in price, unless they're like £1.99 anyway. It's surprising how prices will go down over time. At the moment I've got about 80 unread on my Kindle, plus a whole lot more I had to get second hand because they're not available in e-format. That's not counting history books and cookbooks, of course.

I went about 3 years without buying a book except for my comparative religion. Most I got free on Amazon, some I got from authors fishing for reviews and some I won. I've gone another 3 years on free books and gift cards people give me. Right now I have about 200 free books on my kindle waiting to be read and seam to find 4 or 5 more every week. I read an average of 3 a week, but that still means I'll never reach the end

My husband has just discovered cozy mysteries, so I keep finding notifications of books I've bought that I didn't know about. Though when I say bought, he has a constitutional aversion to paying actual money, so mostly they're freebies. In the meantime I'm still working my way through Christmas books. Last year it took me till well into February to get through them.

"Action is the antidote to despair."
– Joan Baez

Good morning, well it is still morning here. i took advantage of the water and walked both dogs and hung out a load of laundry. Such a pretty day the heater is off and the windows open. The sun is out and we are going for a high in the upper 60's

The thing I don't like about the SPAT is that it doesn't have a screen. I had thought about wearing my pedometer so I could see my steps then remembered the phone DH gave me for Christmas has a fitness tracker on it. It says the tracker works best if you buy the fitness watch that goes with it, mo thanks I'm not spending more money for another gadget I don't need or want. Without the watch it says everything is an estaminet. Well I walked 30 min. My tracker said I took 3150 steps and the phone said I took 3056 steps. They are close. I checked it several more times and the 5 stayed the same. It will be an estaminet though because I noticed every time you picked the phone up or moved it around while talking on it, it recorded a step. When I set it up I set my goal at 1/2 what I have on SP. I'm not one of those people that is more likely to forget their undies then forget to put their phone in their pocket. I have a good old fashion phone shelf by the door. Thats where the phone is except when i leave the house.

Many is the time I've tried to figure out what genera something is, looked it up on Amazon and found they had 3 or genres listed. For me there are two, like and dislike.

The first of the year, Goodreads had a great number of reading contest, most aimed at getting people to try different genres. This is the one I chose. I read many genres, I do have my favorite, my go to. But these are for people like my husband then complains there aren't any books out there he hasn't read that he would like. He reads sifi and then only 3 or 4 authors.

There are mixtures of genres too. I read a lot of historical fiction, but it might also be romance, a whodunnit, fantasy, or the classic gothic. It's all fun though.

Your reading challenge sounds interesting MaryAlice. I read Best sellers, mysteries, biographies, history, science, autobiographies, and science fiction. What am I missing?

I used to buy used books when they were cheaper than Kindle, but I enjoy reading Kindle so much more than print books that I may give print books up except craft & embroidery books..

That third school sounds really good. Just the thing to catch the children's interest.

Richard went to the sleep clinic to get a new mask for his CPAP machine, an hour and a half''s drive through sleet. But the machine stops his sleep apnoea so it's worth it. They told him he had to trim his moustache as it was preventing the mask from making a proper seal against his face. In truth it has been getting a bit walrussy recently.

Good morning, Another blah day. I took Duke for his morning walk. walk for 5 min, 5 sec of rain repeat. But it is one of those days. I'm doing a reading challenge. 40 books in 6 months. No problem with that. The books need to be at least one from 13 different genres. 4 of the genres are genres I tend to stay away from, so I've set up my day read one chapter, crochet a row and clean for 5 min. Figure this way I'll either get the books from the genres I don't like normally read read or one of the temp co will call and mess everything up. Lets hope I the temp co messes everything up.

The school doesn't seam to be helping Tony. DD decided she would watch Tony. I mean really watched him. She discovered he had little or no self esteem. She thought martial arts might help. She took him to several schools. One was little more then a day care, one taught the children, but didn't seam to understand children, now the third, invited Tony to join the 4 to 6 year old class the day of the visit. He did warm up exercises that were geared for children, then showed the children a simple block punch. Then some older students came in dressed as zombies and the children had to fight the zombie invasion. Tony loved it and on the way home told DD that the teacher understood. DD isn't sure what he understood, but he made a connection to Tony in one class. Maybe this is what Tony needs, someone that understands.

Your dog's bed evidently doesn't smell right. Has it got a loose cover? If so you could temporarily put the empty cases from the old pillows inside to make it smell familiar.

We had snow this morning. It had been raining before and the ground was still wet, so it didn't settle for long, but the sky looked very dark, as if there was more to come. So instead of going to the gym I made moussaka. I reckon it was as good as a workout, as I spent three hours standing up doing it, and my back was aching like anything at the end. I found a good recipe on the BBC website. It's supposed to serve six, but I make it go eight ways, so although the preparation takes all that time, at least we don't have to cook on three other occasions. One dish is in the oven at the moment, and three are cooling down before going in the freezer.

That belief about ones morals being passed on to babies in their mothers' milk was quite widespread in England too at one time. Women who wanted to use a wet nurse were in a quandary: they had to find someone who had lots of milk, or whose baby had died, but it couldn't be just anybody. An unmarried woman who'd had a baby would have been quite unacceptable as she would corrupt the poor innocent infant. I'm pretty sure that I didn't corrupt anybody's baby though - I donated milk to the Special Care unit at the hospital where mine were born, when my daughter started sleeping through the night. In the end though they had to stop accepting donated milk because there was a fear that AIDS might be passed on through breast milk. Which was a real shame, as tiny prem babies need breast milk more than anybody, and their mothers might not be able to provide it.

Think not. Do.

Good morning, It's raining so haven't walked the dogs yet. It should clear up in a hour or so and will walk they then. At least it isn't too hot to walk them that late in the day, but then when it is that hot I don't mind walking in the drizzle we have now.

Mutt is mad at me and in his crate giving me the eval eye. Quite some time ago, Mutt took the pillows off the spare bed and made himself a bed. It looked strange in the living room, but the house is about the pets right? Well the pillows have gotten dirty and nasty. I guess they have gotten flat too, Mutt has started digging at them like he wants to fluff them. Well last night he got his claw caught in one and tore it. I told DH I was afraid he was going to get stuffing all over the place. One go the stores had the large dog beds on sale so I went and got one. I picked up the old pillows and put the nice new bed in their place. Mutt dragged the old pillows back to the living room. I put them outside in the trash. Mutt gave me the eval eye and went and curled up in his crate. He hasn't even gotten close to the dog bed yet.

I have the boys tonight, but thats ok, I have trains.

I saw a couple of them. In the first place the Amish think cameras are sinful and in the second most of them are afraid of catching your pagan, read not Amish, ideas. They are contagious you know. The lady around the corner from us had a baby and she didn't have the milk to nurse it. Formula is sinful. I had just had a baby and had to so much milk I have to pump to get my breast so my son could nurse. I offered her the milk but she said my pagan ideas would come though my milk and influence her baby. The baby was in a coma before she found an Amish lady that had extra milk. Yes the baby lived, but was sickly.

There was a time a while ago when there was a couple of programmes on tv where British teenagers did a life swap with some Amish teenagers. Very revealing for both sides, I think.

We've had winds here but it calmed down enough this afternoon to get to the gym. It tends to bring down trees across roads. And I assume there will now be plenty of fallen timber when the son-in-law and his dad get their next licence to take it from Forestry Commission land. Wood to burn next year, as long as Matthew doesn't steal it all to use on his lathe. He makes nice bowls and dishes, even some giant egg cups.

"Hope is not a dream, but a way of making dreams become reality."
– Cardinal Leon Joseph Suenens

Good morning another dreary day with no sun. The temp co with the job I was hoping for says they still haven't heard back, might be just as well. One of the other temp co called they have a job 11 miles from me and they are looking for someone that can do accounts payable well enough that they can hit the ground running. Now I'm waiting on that one, but it is day one. Not week one.

I just spoke to Mom. She said that she called off church yesterday. Several people complained saying she lived 35 miles out and how did she know what the roads were like. She said if the big Baptist Church across the street from the church called off service and the guest minister slid off the road trying to get there, she was calling of service.

Doreen, I think it is that the Amish are a closed community and have little contact with the outside world, no one knows what really goes on. I lived on the edge of an Amish valley. Even walking into the valley to buy vegetables I put on an Amish dress. I do comparative religion studies and often attended the Amish church. I think they got to where they excepted me and I was able to learn about them.

That sounds very interesting! I don't suppose any of the Regencies I read come anywhere near close to the real thing either. More's the pity. I liked the Kate Burgholder books for the whodunnit side though. We have a tv version of one of them, when I get a couple of hours spare I will watch it.

I spotted that the first five Kate Burgholder books, by Linda Castillo, are on today's Kindle Daily Deal in the UK. Don't know if they are on the US version, but if they are and if you haven't read them, I recommend them. Whodunnits with an ex-Amish lady police chief main character.

Good morning, it is a rainy day, so I've done a walk away the pounds video and will with do another one or ride the bike later. I really think my legs need a brake from the bike.

I got prime by accident. Well I meant to get the one free month but forgot to cancel. Anyway one if the things prime members fed is free music. I looked and they had 14 fast paced 1 hour play list already made up. I downloaded 2 that looked good to me. We'll see.

Good afternoon, where did the day go. I just did 30 min on the exercise bike, why is my ankle hurting? That is about as low impact as it gets. Yesterday I did 30 min on the outside bike. Nice ride, but 15 min was into the wind. That will give you an ab workout.

"Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together."

Good morning, I have a killer headache. We got the electric fence up yesterday, so Mutt is outside. Duke was happy about the guys that were putting up the fence. It meant there where 3 teenage guys that kept tossing a ball out of the way. Their father wasn't to happy about it. He kept telling the boys to quite playing with the dog and get to work. The father was use to putting up fences for cattle and when it came time to test the fence his tester wouldn't register. Mutt was walking along beside the fence and went to check out a hole we had blocked. Yep the fence works. This morning I was out in the yard with the dogs. The dogs had been in all night. Of corse I was throwing a ball for Duke. Mutt was walking about 20 feet from the fence stopping about every 5 feet sniffing the air. I guess he could sense the electric, because he wouldn't get any closer to the fence, just whine and move another 5 feet down and try again. I hope this keeps him in the yard.

Mutt and Duke have never been sprayed by a skunk. They have rolled in their trails and once trapped one behind the A/C so it sprayed the A/C unit. Mutt once rolled in a skunk trail as we left for the vet. The vet was so neat about it. She took Mutts face in her hands and told him that while he liked t roll in smelly things, most people would rather he didn't roll in smelly things. Then she laughed and said I guess would would be bathing him way to often if you bathed him every time he rolled in something smelly.

Good morning, i don't go Black friday. We will have to go out today for some plumbing supplies, but I don't think the hardware store is going to be crowded.

I had a good day with my DD and the boys. That is till I got home. I got home at 8:30 at night, it was pitch dark. Mutt had been inside, Duke outside. Mutt wanted to go out so bad. I can't leave him in the back yard by himself. But who could blame him for needing to go out. I watched him. Instead of doing his doggy thing, he started playing tug of war with Duke. I turned on the back light, the dogs had a possum. Not a little possum, a big possum. Now in the dark I need to go convince 2 dogs to drop a possum and then pitch the stupid thing over the back fence. My big concern is that the vet says possums carry 6 diseases dogs can get. My dogs have been vaccinated against the 4 common ones, but there is no vaccine against the other 2. She said they are pretty rare, but I would really rather my dogs weren't playing with a disease ridden animal.

One of the authors i follow just sent me an e mail. All her books are .99 for black friday till cyber Monday. Off to see if there are any I haven't read.

I ate too much turkey,
I ate too much corn,
I ate too much pudding and pie,
I'm stuffed up with muffins
and much too much stuffin',
I'm probably going to die.

I piled up my plate
and I ate and I ate,
but I wish I had known when to stop,
for I'm so crammed with yams,
sauces, gravies, and jams
that my buttons are starting to pop.

I'm full of tomatoes
and french fried potatoes,
my stomach is swollen and sore,
but there's still some dessert,
so I guess it won't hurt
if I eat just a little bit more."

I'm Vegetarian, so no turkey for me, but Mom sent me this poem and I thought You would like it.

I called DD and asked her if she needed me to bring anything. She said no, she had he tamales, and refried beens. I asked about veggies, she said they has spinach tamales, fruit? no. So I stopped by the store to pick up a fruit and veggie tray. I guess everyone had the same idea, the store was picked over pretty good and it was only 8A. I picked up 2 small trays and some stuff to add to them.

Off to do some ad exercises to se if that helps garbage gut. This thing is not moving.

Good morning, Getting warm today, but maybe DH is right. I said we wouldn't see cool weather till Thanksgiving, he said Halloween. We are only getting into the high eighties this week.

Mom has a busy 2 weeks, she says she won't get much walking in. This week she is manning the church booth at the county fair and next week is Hoopen and Hallerin, not sure of the spelling, and she is judging quilts. When they have the parade she will be leading the seniors, most will be walking it, some will be in wheel chairs. Mom says they will have a turkey call, pig call, duck call and a husband call. I've got some questions about the last one

"Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground."

Good Afternoon. I got caught up in the cool of the morning then a good book, so I'n late posting. This is the third day I've had my door and windows open, I really wish this place was built for cross ventilation, but it feel good to let the fresh air in and I'm sure my bank account will feel the difference in my electric bill.

Mutt goes running out on the porch, I guess thinking he is going for a run, just to discover the gate is shut and he walks back to his crate. Lola on the other hand loves it. She doesn't understand the kitty door and goes to it an cries to be let out. With the door open she is wondering in and out at will.

Lola has found something to play with and I have no control over it. Lizards, either the ones on the outside of the windows or the ones that find away into the house. Not hard when I have the door open. Anyway the heck with toys and the laser pointer, the real thing is better. As far as I know she has never caught one, but sure is having fun chasing them.

I'm looking for a nest. It will be very small and I think it is in the crate myrtle, but could be one of the oaks. I have a pair of humming birds in the front yard. The crate myrtle is in bloom and they are normally around it.

Good morning. I have the door and windows open. Houses these days aren't built for air correlation, but it is so nice outside. Temp in the 60's and no mosquitoes. I had the AC off and door and windows open all day yesterday too. The dogs love it long walks and fetch.

I didn't think Lola was drinking enough water. So I got her one of those fountain water dishes. I got her one of the cheaper ones because it said it was one of the easiest to keep clean. At first she was afraid of it, but judging but how much water I needed to put in the dish this morning, she likes it.

Such a nice cool day, I think my kindle, the hammock and I have a date

Hi all,

Still reading my Bible and enjoying a rainy day after house cleaning. I have three cats. They are a joy in my life. They all have different personalities. Sebastian my oldest is an old shoe and just loves to be petted and massaged. Ian my middle child is a diva and attention seeker. He rules the house. Prince is our youngest and is a ball of energy and affection.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Good morning. I'm up early this morning, I have a load of cloths in the washer, they will be hung inside since it is sprinkling and the mosquitoes are bad.

My picture is my attempt to take a salfie. I'm told that the problem is that the problem is I didn't know take enough pictures. You need to take at least 17 pictures before you get a decent selfie. I posted a couple picture of Lola. One of them males her look mean. She is a sweet cuddly kitty she just doesn't like her picture taken.

What a difference 3 week make. Hard to believe I haven't had her a month yet. She has gone from just walking slowly around the house to running and jumping on the furniture. She has always used her litter box, but never buried anything. Thank goodness she has started burying everything. My nose is so glad. Her quite purr was so low, you had to touch her to feel because you couldn't hear it, now she still has a soft purr, but you can hear it when you are close to her.

Good morning, I'm going stir crazy. I can't do much of anything outside between the heat and mosquitoes. we don't want to use the gas to go anywhere and I'm not working yet.

Yesterday I got one of the SP videos to work. I did seated cardo. It is 11 min, thats all 11 min. I should have gone back to work yesterday. That short little video left me with an pain, not bad just enough so I knew I over did it, in my side. Can you imagine what 8 hours would have done.

I'll look into that series Since I HATE cliffhangers I tend to avoid series, unless they say they are stand alone. I get so many books for free that, except for comparative religion, i seldom buy books. Since I'm not working right now I won't buy any.

Hello all,

I am going to start reading the Warrior series with my client starting tomorrow. It is about clans of cats and a prophecy. It looks very interesting. Will be purchasing a new tablet for reading tomorrow. I joined Scribd and they have awesome books for a monthly fee.

Good morning, I walked the dogs earlier. I have work do outside, but it is so muggy, I'm feeling the heat so it is a little bit now and a little bit later type thing.

I don't know what was up with SP yesterday, but I tried several times to do the exercise videos and the ad played, than I got a picture of Couch Nicole sitting in a chair. One time I left it for 10 min to see if the video would load and nothing happen. Yes I was trying to do chair exercises. I ended up doing a Sit and be Fit DVD.

I have a kindle and read on it at work. I also have a Nook tablet and read on it. It won't fit in my lunch pail. The reason for both is because I needed a larger e reader so I could make the print bigger. The 8 inch Nook tablet was 1/2 the price of the 8 inch kindle e reader and had the play store on it so I could get all my reading apps and didn't need Calibre any more. I read books from about 5 different places, but most of my books are kindle.

Good Afternoon, Got busy this morning and didn't get my posting done. I did start my ab exercises, but just tucking my tush as often as I could remember, just wanted to make sure it was ready. No problems. I told mom I worked hard to get a flat belly, then they blow air in it to stretch it and I couldn't do my exercises for a month.

DH likes to listen to tech videos, why, I have no idea, but that is his thing. Yesterday he asked me to listen about the new watch. I told him I had things to do most of what it could do. There where a few things in the fitness area that would be nice. After they said the price was $350, I said no way. I didn't like those few things that much. Then they said you had to have an iPhone for it to work properly. Forget it, my samsung phone works just fine. I carry it anyway when I walk, it has my music, my SP tracker counts my steps, distance and keeps track of it on the computer, and I can get a map of where I walked on SP too. I don't text, or read my facebok page while I walk. OK SPAT does't record my heart rate, but $350 + a new phone for a heart rate monitor.

Signed up for an e-mail for free and bargain Nook books. Now to remember to read them. I tend to read my kindle and forget the nook books.

Good morning, The dogs are upset, the mosquitos are so bad I can't walk them or play fetch. Lola has gotten to where she can jump on the porch railing. She still wants nothing to do with jumping off. That is about 7 foot down, but I have to watch and see if she does. Sure hope not.

I can start doing my ab exercises today, but still need to take it easy on twisting. My tummy looks like it needs some work.

Good Morning. I'm watching the clock for when I can call in to the temp agency. They said I didn't need to call in, but I want to keep my name on their mind and Mondays are when they get most of their calls from companies.

Yesterday it rained all day and walking was done in the house. Today I'll walk inside again. I'd lose a lot of weight if I walked outside, the mosquitos would suck my dry.

Time to start making that list of books you want for Christmas, so you can hand it out when people ask what you want. DD gives me a gift card to pitch up the ones I don't get.

Hi all,

I am a newbie. I live in Pottstown Pa and I am an avid reader. I have been so busy reading for seminary classes that I have not had a chance to read books on my tablet. I am adjusting my work and school schedule so I can read again. I love to read history, true crime and historical fiction.

Glad to be a par of the group.

Good morning, I'm a little late checking in because I didn't want to say anything till it was official. I'm officially unemployed. My choice, I told Wal-Mart I wouldn't be coming back when my leave was up. I was good about it and left so that if, heaven forbid, I ever had to I could go back. After I told HR, and she said She needed to get an Asst. Manager to do the paper work. An Asst. I worked with just happened to walk in and HR asked her to do the paper work. She refused. She said I was coming back, just give me time. I told her it might be awhile, so she finally said she would do it, but under reason for leaving she just wrote Mary was on LOA and will not be able to do retail at this time. It felt good that she wanted me to stay, but it felt like the weight of the world was lift off my shoulders when I walked out of there.

DH says he put aside 4 months worth of my take home salary from Wal-Mart. So I went by a temp agency that I've had good luck with in the past and signed up with them. They think I can get almost twice what Wal-Mart pays, easy, So even if I work only a couple weeks a month I'll be OK.

Good morning, I guess it is still Morning. I took Duke and Lola to the vet this morning.

Duke was calmer and easier to handle then I thought he would be, really a good boy. He had nervous pee every time the vet or teck touched him, but got a clean bill of health.

I told the vet then when I got Lola 2 weeks ago she acted a lot older then any 8 year old I had ever had, but every day was a first something and she was starting to act her age. The vet said it was 5 months in a little cage, but she wasn't acting her age. The vet says she things the previous owner lost count. Going by Lola's teeth she is high 6 maybe 7 years old. Anyway she is in good health and the Dr says I can expect her to live another 12 to 14 years. The vet asked if Lola played. I told her that was the first for today. Lola played with a piece of string, only for a min, but she did play. The vet was glad she had played. The vet told me to keep encouraging her to play, it would help her act like a 6 year old. Lola isn't as big as I thought. She is just 12 pounds, I guess it is all that hair makes he look bigger.

The rain goes around us unless there is something we really need to do then we get enough to make a steam bath. Not enough to close the cracks in the ground, not enough to make the grass green, just enough to make a steam bath. Hay some people pay good money for steam baths.

Good morning. The Dr says that DH can't have caffein anymore and I need to cut back on mine. I told DH that the tea store where I bought my tea, herb and black, might be able to help, so we are off to the mall today. When DH had his colonoscopy they went from the mouth down and from the rear up. They found nothing in his colon, but found very bad acid erosion in his throat and stomach. I have minor erosion in my throat.

I often read books to do reviews. I read Mythos for Vrinda Pendred. It is a paranormal, YA romance. Most books with these tags involve shapeshifter, vampires or both, but this one mixed the ancient gods, myths, Atlantis and the aliens.

Good afternoon I woke up at 4 this morning, it felt like something on my arm. I didn't put my hair up last night and thought my hair was tickling my arm. I flicked me hair several times because it kept tickling me. Then at about 5 something bite my leg, now I have long hair, but it doesn't come close to my leg and my hair doesn't bite. I got up and my bed was covered with ants.

So everything on my bed needed washed. Three loads of laundry on the line on a day when there is no breeze and the weatherman says we might have moments of sun between the showers. No rain so far, but no sun either.
