My dog Princess loves the Mn. winter, hust so she can go out and stick her faxe in the snowbanks and eat the cold stuff. Once in awhile she gets more snow than she bargained for and needs to get dried off.

We lived in an unincorporated area in the middle of Portland. Our neighbors had sheep and we had chickens. They were good chickens. Very friendly. The girls went out on a regular basis and would paint their toenails bright red. People often questioned us about how we got away with the animals in the middle of town. As long as they were quiet and didn't stink there was no problem or law. Our neighbors all enjoyed our farm animals. It was novel to most of the kids. One day the sheep that lived a couple houses down got loose and all the kids in the neighborhood were out rounding it up. Great fun.

Snoopy was a natural herder -- he would walk behind me and keep pushing on the back of my leg with his nose. He also herded chickens. And he'd put his nose to the ground to track rabbits. A great multi-tasker.

I don't know how I missed this.
Very cute Cathy....like Lassie did with Timmy.
Our two fur babies don't leave my side ,or my feet lol
Henry Jr. always lets me know when he has to go out.
I let him out then he comes back in to see where I am.
Then he goes out again. lol
When his water bowl is empty he comes over to me
and taps my foot with his paw.
Until i know what he wants he keeps after me.
I say show me, what do you want?
He does too.

Another thing he learned is the word wait.
It is like saying stay, stay word didn't work for him.

Jeremiah used to follow me to the bus stop for school. I don't know how many times I took him back home and Mom drove me to school so I wouldn't be late. She finally got smart and locked him in the house for five minutes so I could get a good head start.

Jeremiah was a malnourished half grown kitten that wandered into our church one hot summer day. He was louder than the minister. The lay elders kept putting him out. After about the fifth time of being evicted they locked him in the mens restroom. Of course we heard his plaintive mews through the rest of the service. I begged and pleaded and Dad let me take him home.... He was the cat who brought me presents.

In grade school we lived on the Salmon River and then there were fields above us -- we had a little dog that I'm not even sure what he was - some kind of spaniel and whatever. We were always walking and hiking and he would go ahead of us and make a semi-circle around to check for snakes, etc. Of all the snakes we ran into there was never one he was doing front guard duty.

We were camping in NM - Snoopy always liked to back up against the tree or bush to poop. He backed up against two or three small weeds. A couple weeks later the weeds had grown quite tall, and he had weeds with ornaments on them.

They try so hard to be helpful. We have two feral highway cats at the moment that have done a wonderful job of keeping us mouse free and don't try to share. Thank Goodness.

So Buddy is rightfully named. Hubby calls him Butterbutt, Butterball, Butters....etc. Yesterday!!!!! Buddy got up on the counter, drug the butter tub to the floor and was joyfully lapping it up. Luckily, Hubby caught him before he consumed enough to make him sick. He truly is a Butterbutt.

When I was 4-5-6 we had a huge gray Persian cat. He had a shelf outside Mom's bedroom window and the screen was off so he came and went whenever he wanted. Many a morning Mom would wake up to a dead bird on the rug in front of her bed. Or, the cat was playing with a mouse until Mom woke up and saw it, then he finished it off and consumed it. He was such a neat cat.

Did I tell you I used to sneak my cat in the bedroom window at night to sleep with me. That stopped abruptly when he started bringing me gifts. Dead mice, dead birds, then a live mouse. He just couldn't let a good thing go. I am sure my parents knew what was going on, we made so much racket, but they let me work it out.

When I was a kid, we had a dog we named Tareyton. She was a spitz-terrier mix and was all white with one black ear and one black circle around one eye. This was a long long time ago and they still had cigarette commercials on tv. There was a brand of cigarettes named Tareyton that always advertised the smoker would rather fight than switch and showed the smoker with a black eye. That's where she got her name from because of her black ring around her eye. We got her when she was only a week old because her mom got sick and couldn't feed her. We fed her with a doll bottle till she was old enough to eat. We had her for many years until after I was out of school and on my own. Then she got ill and my mom had to put her to sleep. She was the first dog we ever had. She was a very good dog but didn't like it when my and my brother would fight and would chase after the kid doing the chasing. One time my mom was chasing my littlest brother and she started barking and chasing my mom!

Funny dog.

Years ago friends of my dad boarded a pony on our place so we would often go out as a group to ride the horses. They had a dalmation. The first order of the day was for "Arf" to race after the horses. The only one that would run was my horse. She would go racing up the hill with Arf hot on her heels. At the top she would turn and chase him back down the hill. This went on five or six times then they would both come back to us Arf panting and smiling and Juniper calmed down enough to be great to ride. Those two loved each other.

Funny guys --- we got Snoopy when he was about 3 or 4 months old. At that point he looked just like a miniature chihuahua (course he changed as he grew up) - a few weeks later we got a kitty about 4 or 6 months old. We were all out in the yard - kitty started to dig and hole in the sand - Snoopy pushed her out of the way and proceeded to dig the hole for her. Then he pushed her back on. He was pretty bossy - had to do it his way. lol

That's such a cute story. My 8 year old granddaughter has been sleeping with me lately since my daughter and grandkis are living with me the past several months. My lab Abigail has to have her share of the bed and so we are contantly fighting with her for leg room!

Want to share tales of my pets -- lots of funny stuff. When we traveled - Snoopy -- short, fat, long doggy, would sit on the arms of the bucket seats to watch the road like he was riding shotgun. I used to say he should have his sunglasses, cowboy hat and a shotgun under one front leg. The aristocratic bump on the top of his nose made him look more in control and a force to be reckoned with. That was HIS place to sit. If there was a sweater or something there he would either sit right on top of it or scoot it off and still be very aloof.

I found your fur babies. They are adorable.

I have Mutts. Buddy is a terrier mix, supposedly Jack Russell and German Shepherd according to the Humane Society biography. Sasha is Collie and Australian Shepherd. The collie is obvious. I guess the carmel swirls and her curls is what made the HS decide she had some Aussie in her too. They have been the perfect dogs for us. Buddy is the clown and the cheerleader. He makes sure we are all entertained and exercised. Sasha is so very sweet. She is a gentle and nurturing soul.

Great idea Cathy thanks. I will ask wayne to do it with him, you see, I do not have much of a voice anymore as it was damaged a few years ago when I was on the breathing machine for over a week...

when he does it it is so cute :)
abby just watches, she is the quiet one.
thinking of having her mated one more time....

she still grooms Henry as he tries to fight her off, she wins though.

here it goes....Abigail came back from the vets today, and a good report...her ears with the infection are cleared up, the sore on her face the vet said leave alone as it is healing itself. she got her shot, and for being a good girl got her treat of pig ears.
she has been sleeping most of the day.
I hope I can get a picture of her grooming Henry Jr.
it is so cute.
When Wayne left this morning with Abby all Henry jr.
was do was cry and whimper, he missed her so.
When she got back, he ran to her kissing her as a welcome home gesture. she kissed him back.
Pets are amazing.

I loved reading the posts and reading that Gus is doing good, and we have another Abigail in the room lol
The fur babies are all so cute.

love and hugs, Paula :)

Gus is beautiful. I love the Golden Retriever personality.

One last pet to share. For the last five years we have had a racoon visit us at least once a week. We named her Stubby, because she does not have a tail. Every summer she brings a litter of kits to visit. When they are almost as big as her she helps them find their own territories. Watching them is better than watching TV.

We have a huge golden retriever, Gus. His picture is my profile picture, because I like looking at him. He is the most mellow creature, but still has a mind of his own. He is always ready to go for a walk, accept a treat (LOL), or receive a belly rub. He greets everyone with a wag of his tail, but special people get the "windmill" tail and happy whines.

He had to have surgery to remove a plate from his knee that had been put in two years earlier when he had surgery to fix the canine equivalent of ACL ligament in his knee. After the surgery he required a fair amount of care, and DH was gone a lot. So, he was missing a favorite person and hurting. Poor Gus! Now, however, he is healed, the swelling in the area is going down and today he felt good enough to chase after the UPS truck going down our driveway. That earned him a rather agitated scolding!

I am so grateful for his shining presence in our lives! emoticon

emoticon That was the best. I am even laughing out loud which earned me a curious stare from my fur baby.

You reminded me of the time my sister and her husband moved to Korea. We got to care for their poodle till arrangements could be made to send her to other relatives. I was about 12 years old at the time and I loved Gidget. Gidget loved the horse poo. Every stinking time we went to the farm she rolled in it. Needless to say that girl got many baths.

Gizmo is my handsome man... also known as Gizzy Gizzy Moto and handsome man... He was actually my nieces dog and everytime I came into town Gizmo and I were inseparable I asked her over and over to let me take him on the road with me and one time she finally did. He has been very much my baby boy for the last couple years. Oh I have so many stories about him but I'll share the one that reflects why the bathing pictures.

We were over the road truck drivers before my husband got very ill. I drove days he drove nights. One day I was driving through New Mexico and Dan was sleeping and I stopped at a rest area to run in and to let gizzy out to potty and walk around. Gizmo is a non leash animal ninety percent of the time because he wont stray far from my side. This rest area was quiet and pretty empty so I didnt worry about traffic and I gave him his sign to go ahead and hit the field...so off he ran. I am walking up behind him and I am just giggling as I watch him rolling around in a pile of hay he is just burying himself in it and rolling around like crazy! As I get closer I see these clump things...and it occurs to me that there probably wasnt a pile of hay dropped in the rest area for nothing... yes, you guessed it.. here is gizmo rolling around in poo as I watch and think affectionately how cute he looks! It was either cow or horse poo but that didnt matter it still smelled like poo. So now I am pickign hay and straw out of gizmos fur and trying best I can to use baby wipes to clean him up a little. We are on a very very tight schedule with this particular critical run and I couldnt afford to stop for any length of time.. so next thing I know gizmo is shaking all this stuff off him all over the floor of the truck and he jumps up into the bed with Dan. A few moments later Dan wakes up and says oh my lord what is that SMELL! And I just couldnt stop laughing oh its cow manure in the truck... but it was the cutest thing. LOL
As soon as we delivered the load in Arkansas the next day we found a motel where I promptly bathed gizzy and scoured the truck... those are the photos on my page of his bathtime and toweling off and such.

He was one smelly baby that day but I love him so much!

You have been doing an amazing job on getting healthier. Congratulations!

Abigail looks like a sweetheart. No wonder you share the bed with her.

My baby (pet) is Abigail, a 7 year old yellow lab. She loves to sleep on my bed, and sometimes it's hard to get 100 lbs or so of dog move over so I can get in! She loves to hike with me and of course swimming in any body of water is her favorite sport, no matter what the weather! Pictures of her are on my spark page. I think pets are so wonderful! I'm a cat lover to but don't currently have one although I have thought about getting one because it's been a while since I had one. My daughter is allergic to cats but she doesn't live with me so I am still considering.

You will have a get a picture of Abigail grooming Henry and post it under our team photos. I would love to see that. We had a cat that insisted on grooming everyone including the Chowkita Doogie. He tolerated very little, but he put up with her.

More pets here:
We have Kiki, the old lady. She was left with us eleven years ago. We think she is 15 years old. We let her in the house at night. She has never been my favorite cat, but boy was she a good mouser in her day, so she deserves to live out her golden years in the lap of luxury. We always have a couple of feral cats too. The current two were half grown kittens when they showed up. I am relatively certain they are eating at our neighbors also. They are both excellent mousers. One of these days I will actually catch them to get them to the vet. Won't they be surprised. We call them Whiskers and Cuddles.

We have two Shih-Tzus, Abigail & Henry,Jr. her son.
They are both a bundle of joy and so much fun.
We love them to pieces....
Abigail is so funny, when she tries to jump up on
the bed, with her little short legs she just doesn't
make it, and has to use the puppy stairs.
Henry, Jr. has longer legs so it is easier for him.

Abigail still grooms Henry, Jr. it is so funny, she is so tiny compared to him, and she can take him right down, and she gets the job done :)
He does resist her though, but he doesn't win. lol

The sheep are Ceasar and Freckles. They mow the blackberries and make very entertaining yard ornaments.

I have two beautiful Tabby Cats. They are brother and sister We call them Puss and Boots. They are silly 8 month old cats that are both spayed and neutered . They love to play in the rain and in the water puddles. they even play with their paws in their water bowl. Leaving a mess always around it. LOL

But when it is sunny you find them curled up on my bed sound asleep all day long. They are a lot of fun and provide a lot of laughter around here.

I cannot own a pet where I live in NY. But while I am herein SC my son just got a puppy you can see his pic in my pictures. When I was a married lady we had a Sheltie for years, her name was Princess. The puppy here is Charlie and I have to watch him a lot. I think animals are great especially for children, and when people retire more for companions when they are alone. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thank you for starting this thread just for me!

I write Valentine poems for my pets and post them in my Blogs.

Sasha is laying near, me as I type, moaning with Hubby. I have no idea what they are talking about.

Both her and Buddy were shelter dogs. After Doogie (Chow/akita) went to his next adventure I started walking the shelter dogs to fill the hole. Then Buddy claimed me and I did not look back. Six months after that Hubby decided he wanted a dog too. There was an Akita at the shelter named Sasha, so we went to check her out. She was in an outside enclosure and wanted nothing to do with Hubby, so we started back and discovered we were locked in the yard. We had to circle around the building and go through a door that led us down the gauntlet between the dogs that were inside. Three quarters of the way down was another Sasha. She looked like a dirty rug. I spotted a Corgi and was looking at it when Hubby got to Sasha's cage. I told him her name was also Sasha. He spoke her name and she stood up and came to him. One look at the two of them and I knew she was our next dog. We brought her out to the car to meet Buddy and he was totally smitten too. We did not even do a sleepover. We paid for her right then including her license.

She turned out to be absolutely beautiful, with the most wonderful and kind personality. I am so glad Doogie intervened and locked us out so that we would have to go around and find Sasha.

I don't personally own a pet right now. The last pet that I owned was Ariadne, a tarantula. However, my husband is deathly afraid of spiders so she will not be replaced.

My son, dil & grandson live here and with them are THEIR pets. 2 dogs and a cat. Scooby is the male, pitbull/greatdane mix. He's a twin to ScoobyDoo in the cartoons and a big dork. I love him. Paris is the female, pitbull. She's about a year younger than Scooby and is white with a few tan markings on her head. She's the protector of the house & family. She is mostly my grandson's dog. Ganja, is the cat and actual RULER of the ROOST here. My son has had her since she was found abandoned as a kitten and he fed her with an eye dropper. She's about 10 years old now, I think. She's a tabby/ tiger striped housecat in tans & blacks mostly. She's never been outside, except on the front porch where she freaks and runs right back into the house. She's really funny because if we are all sitting on the front porch, she'll stand on her hind legs and dig her front paws at the glass as if she is trying to claw her way out.. but bring her out on the porch and she looks freaked out and terrified and can't get back inside fast enough. Too funny. They keep us entertained.
