Someone asked Nathan on Twitter awhile back what he thought about Fox making it illegal to replicate the hat. His response, word for word...

"You got a job? We'll do it. Don't much care what it is."

I love how this story is shaping up. Ripple Junction now making a statement that they have nothing to do with the etsy crackdown. And of course : youcanttaketheyarnfrom.me/
If you have a hat you can go ahead and make a post. Some fun pics going up

I saw a posting somewhere (sorry I don't remember where) of quite a few people that have decided to misbehave. According to that posting, there are more Etsy postings going up under all kinds of creative names - none that include the words "Jayne", Firefly, Serenity, or any of the other known hot buttons. "Knit hat with ear flap" was the least creative that I remember.

I haven't actually checked it out myself, but there were photos of the postings.

You'll still totally be able to get one. They're not going anywhere. The dust will settle. It will work out, if you really want one and can't knit, there will be people still making them.

I never got around to buying one for myself. I bought several for friends, though. I loved Ma Cobb's stuff. :(

Nathan Fillion's twitter stuff -
@PirateKnits:Captain, looking to unload illegal hats. (picture of bunch of Jayne hats)

You got a job? We'll do it. Don't much care what it is.

and

How do you license hats? I don't think FOX invented hats. Maybe just call them Enyaj hats from Erifylf.

wow, so now think geek is donating profits for Jayne hats to can't stop the serenity. I guess they don't want to make their customer base to upset.

Here is a nicely written article with ALL the updated news in one place and it is 'nicely' illustrated with clips from Firefly itself, which sort of, lightens it up a bit. It's a tough situation and even Nathon Fillion has sounded off on it on his Twitter, so has Adam Baldwin, posting a picture on his Twitter about it and Joss Whedon even replying when being asked about it.

This is a good article because it sums up the whole situation that has been going around, all in one place. I enjoyed getting the summary (and the Firefly illustrated version at that) all at once. It was a bit confusing at first when this and that was being said here and there, when the story was first breaking.

I posted me in my ETSY made hat on my Twitter page: https://twitter.com/rodeobucket if links don't show up, I'm @rodeobucket as my statement as a Browncoat. 'Can't Take My Hat From Me!'

I made one as a Christmas gift for my brother-in-law, and I have to agree that a homemade one is more authentic than a mass produced one would be. After all, Ma Cobb had made Jayne's, not bought it :-)

Wow! Thanks for all the info. There are also loads of patterns on ravelry, but I will prob take a bit from a bunch of patterns. Well done for learning to knit. It is a good project to learn on as it looks to me like the hat is doen in bulky or chunky yarn. It is an awesome hat!

I learned to knit just so I could make my own hat so obviously I feel strongly about it. And I intend to wear my hat proudly. As long as the hat isn't sold, the lawyers can't really stop us from enjoying our hats. Plus I think the store bought ones don't have the character and shinyness that the hand made ones have.

We are Browncoats. We have done the impossible and a little thing like this will not stop us!

There are links to some articles in the Howdy! And General Discussion forum in the stickies. A link to a pattern by the Austin Browncoats is included so you don't have to make it up for yourself.

Hey, so has anyone else been reading about how Fox is going after people selling handknitted Jayne hats now that think geek is selling a licensed hat. Since everyone who sold those hats had to make the pattern up on their own and I think it is a bit harsh. Plus, who wants a mass produced Jayne hat. I was going to knit one for myself, but it all seems a little sad now.
