All quiet here today. It's a beautiful sunshiney day with blue skies.

The day started early when the phone rang just after 8:00. It was the HVAC repair company asking if they could come at 9:00 to install the new coil in our system. I said, yes, absolutely!! Then I called my husband (who had just gotten to his office) and asked if he could come oversee it, since I didn't get to sleep until 5:45 AM. Fortunately, he could. So, I corralled the cats so that they couldn't run up and explore the attic while the attic stairs were pulled down! Then I went back to sleep and from time to time I heard all manner of noises coming from the attic.

Since it's supposed to be much warmer this week, I'm very grateful to have the air conditioning working again. Since we had to do without it for a week, this certainly was the best week for it! In the evening, my hubby would open one kitchen window and then leave the attic stairs open about 2 inches to create a wonderful breeze going through the house and cooling it off all night so that we could handle the heat of the day.

All the best,
Carolyn B in SC

Not doing much here either, DH fixed dinner & did the dishes; that was nice! It was another beautiful day so I took a walk with Ben. My son brought me a framed photo collage of all my pets; it was really neat; his girlfriend is a really good photographer.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Another beautiful day here! I'm going to check in with my doctor to pursue my options on Monday. Didn't do too much today, under the weather a bit with a sore throat; I think it's mostly allergies flaring up due to the wet weather & all the pollen.

Lesley, saw your picture of your flowers, those were very pretty; I imagine you were thrilled to get them.

Kay - the hearing aid doesn't stop the noise it just counteracts it so its not so noticeable.

Lesley - keep getting better and stronger! I agree, we would be in a world of hurt if we lost our electronics.

NELLIE - a lot of old hospitals don't have the proper infrastructure for all the electronics they use, so everything runs slow.

What a beautiful day today! Perfect temperatures, DH took me out for dinner so we wouldn't have to brave the crowds on Mother's Day, then we did a little shopping. I found some comfy shoes, which is really hard for me to do these days.

Hope all you ladies have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend, whether you're mothers to children or fur babies!

Lesley -- What wonderful news to know the lung tumor has decreased even a little bit!!

Kay -- That tinnitis must be truly horrific. Many of us have it, but to such a mild degree that it is hardly noticeable. It must be nerve-wracking to you. I do hope some solution is found soon.

All the best,

Kayde, it might be a slow computer at the doctor's and hospitals. I know that when one checks in, the receptionist is complaining at how slow the computer is!

I have tinnitus all the time too, but this is much worse than normal since the vertigo attack. The doctor did call & mention a hearing aid for that ear, but if it doesn't stop the noise, I don't know. Otherwise, it's going to be more shots in the ear with a different med this time.

Lesley, I'm so glad you've had that good news!

I think we'd all miss our technology these days & I don't know how medical places would operate, everything at doctors & hospitals is on computer!

Computer working - finally! Had to do backup and restore, which seems to take forever.

My husband has the ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and his hearing aid actually has a setting with white noise to help offset it. It helps most of the time, but when the weather changes, it seems to increase in intensity.

Thanks for all the prayers, MRI did come out normal, no tumors on brain or inside ear canal. That is an answered prayer for sure. Now I just hope they can come up with another treatment for the ringing in my ears & hearing loss. The hearing loss I don't mind so much, it's the ringing which is very loud this time; I always have it, just never nearly this loud.

Mauvebear, I love San Diego, in fact, DH & I were talking last night about I much we'd like to go there again someday. Lucky you!

Krys, hope you get your computer back up & running, that's so frustrating! Princess must be an obedient dog and that's a good thing! That's what we can't get Ben to do, come when called when he's doing something he likes or would rather be doing. He'll come if he just messing around, but if he actually hunting or playing, he won't! Very stubborn! lol

Not much going on here, still waiting for results.

Still working on the computer, using the laptop instead. Read all the posts, so pretty much caught up.
Princess got to run in the cul-de-sac with the neighbors dog and had the best time. She's getting real trustworthy in coming when she's called and doesn't want to stray too far so she can keep her eye on us.

That's the way it goes seems like, the kids of smokers usually don't, but not always! My dad had good genes, for sure, because he lived to 90 in spite of smoking so many years.

DH and I mowed today; after all the rain we had, it was way overgrown and we had to wait until it was dry. We had to mow it twice, once high, then lower. Already had my MRI today, won't get results for a couple of days.

Lesley, I sure will pray for you and hope things improve.

Krys -- Glad to see you back!

Kay -- My Dad was a heavy smoker, too, until he had a major heart attack in 1989 and he quit cold turkey then. My 2 brothers were also heavy smokers. My younger brother quit in his mid-20s and my old brother quit when Papa was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2001.

Nellie -- You're blessed that your kids followed your lead in not smoking!

My father smoked for many years and died from it. I tried 2 cigarettes, but have been told that doesn't count. As it is I am allergic to cigarette smoke which has discouraged my kids from smoking. (Thank God!)

Me too, Carolyn! I guess I'm militant because my dad smoked so many (50) years and I hated when we went on trips when I was a kid & had to breathe the stuff. I always kind of blamed him for my allergies & sinus problems too, but I think now that's a lot due to heredity. He had emphysema too, but not as bad as you'd think for smoking unfiltered Camels.

Lesley, it was very common to smoke in my day too, especially to keep your weight down. Glad you were able to quit. I know it's very hard, my dad tried numerous times before he actually did, but he always told everyone not to start.

Our weather today is very pretty & sunny, but slightly on the cool side!

Lesley, I'm so glad you stopped smoking when you did!! My father died of lung cancer in 2002, and I had a great-uncle die of emphysema when I was about 15. Watching him in his last hours was quite enough to convince me to never ever put a cigarette in my mouth!! I do have asthma and my pulmonologist wrote in my chart that I am a "Militant Non-smoker"! LOL!!!

My Mom, at 93, has emphysema which worries her to death because she never smoked. But .... her grandfather, her father, and her husband (my Papa) all were heavy smokers and she got the 2nd-hand smoke. Harder for her is that she has 8 herniated discs in her back and has gone from being 5'7" to being just under 5 feet even. She's so bent over that she looks even shorter than she actually is.

Sometimes she tickles me because she will start moaning and asking WHY she should get emphysema when she didn't smoke. I generally tell her, "Well, Mama ... I have cirrhosis and I never drank." She then says it's just not fair. I'll chuckle and ask her just exactly who it was who promised her that life would always be fair?

Anyway, I'm glad you're hanging in there!!!

Nellie my mother had dimentia and they put her on medication right away which helped her allot sometimes the dimentia improves. Talk to your doctor regarding meds also what Carolyn said is helpful. Blessings dear. You're in my prayers.

Carolyn so glad you've pulled thru ....very frustrating when your a non drinker and that happened you, you're in my prayers and Blessings to you..

Mine started 11 years ago with ovarian cyst which then found a bronchial enlarged lymph node. But I smoked for many years but I quit that day 11 years ago which has been a life saver. Chemo is more effective if you don't smoke. But cancer runs on my dad's side of the family so I was prone to getting it..In those days they used to hand out cigarettes free and just beginning to know the bad effects. But my Doc says I'm his star patient since I've been around so long. But he says it looks to be a "chronic condition" so I'll be dealing with this in the future again ..

Blessings to all. emoticon

Nellie -- I know it must be unsettling, at the very least, to struggle against memory issues. My 93-year-old Mom lives with us and is also struggling. Yielding yourself to a nursing facility is also pretty frightening. We are planning to place Mom in assisted living of the very small place that is in the town where we are moving to. We already know so many of the residents, as well as the staff, that I am not worried about her being there. It's only 3 blocks from our house so we will be constantly looking in on her. It's the only place I know of that I would risk putting her, and I wouldn't do that if I weren't running out of strength myself. She has lived with us for over 10 years and I'm her primary caregiver (which is tough when I'm in the hospital so often myself!).

I hope your own situation changes for the better. If it is Alzheimer's, there are medications now that can ease that somewhat. Sometimes it's as simple as a UTI, which can throw you for such a loop. When my Mom gets a UTI, she can't follow anything that's going on. I hope you've had a good physical exam lately and have ruled out any other cause for your memory issues. You're in my prayers.

Sorry for the assumption; Carolyn, I guess we connect the word stages to cancer. My mom's cousin died of Cirrhosis of the liver, and she never drank, and there are people who get lung cancer who never smoked. A person just never knows what they might have to face in this life, but you've certainly got a great attitude and a great testimony to the fact that God is in control.

Nellie, hopefully your dementia problem will be slow progressing, and you won't have to go the nursing home for yet a long time.

We just got back from Amish country, took a couple of days and went down there just to get away. It was fun even with the rain. lol

I'm struggling now with Alzheimer's or some kind of dementia. Sometimes I can remember well and other times I am forgetting something and sometimes something important every few seconds. Very frustrating. I am somewhat afraid of going to a nursing home since their food service doesn't necessarily keep track of your allergies and food preferences. (I have had that bad experience already. Thanks to a diligent nursing assistant, I survived.)

Lesley -- I'm so sorry you're on your 3rd bout of cancer. Glad your blood looks good at the moment, though. One thing we have learned over the years is that when I feel my worst, my labs look good. When I feel great .... something is invariably out of kilter!

It's truly puzzling, but after awhile you get so accustomed to being sick that it feels normal. I've had this liver disease for 25 years now (they used to say you had 7-10 years from diagnosis to either transplant or death), and so I'm used to having very little stamina.

Keeping you in my prayers.

Hugs,
Carolyn B in SC

Thanks, Kay!! I'm not sure whether it's my stubborn personality, but once I make a commitment to a person or an animal, I do everything in my power to keep it!

By the way .... cancer wasn't my issue. I am in stage 4 of a very rare liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (complicated by Crohn's Disease and Cirrhosis). It is treatable only by a liver transplant, but I'm not eligible for transplant (due to anesthesia issues and loads of blood clots). The drs. said in 2004 that I had a max of 2 years left. So many, many times they have told us I was on the brink, yet, every single time God has brought me through and I'm still here!
emoticon

I may be the only teetotaller minister's wife you'll ever know of who suffers with cirrhosis!! LOL!! We tell folks that if you have a strong faith in God and a strong sense of humor, you can get through anything!

Even though I'm doing well at the moment, this disease is one that changes in the blink of an eye. I can be fine one minute and, quite literally, dying an hour later. I will say that it certainly gives you an appreciation for the little things in life! And it keeps my sense of humor very well exercised!!!

All the best,
Carolyn B in SC

Oh my goodness, Carolyn, and I thought my few little scars were bad! Lol That was funny and so touching too; it is wonderful the way an animal, cat or dog, can be turned around with a whole lot of love and patience. Some people just give up on them. Good for you for sticking it out! And congrats to you for beating cancer. That should give hope to anyone fighting it to hear your story! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Kay -- I hear you about the claws!! LOL!! When we first got our LucyFur as a tiny 5-week kitten from the shelter, we had no idea we were getting a Maine Coon (Her picture is the one you always see by my name). She was in a cage with her 4 littermates. Of the 5 kittens, 2 were long-haired, 3 were shorthaired .... 2 were extremely dilute ginger tabbies, 2 were regular classic brown tabbies and 1 was a tortoiseshell. Well, 4 of the 5 kittens were climbing all over that cage meowing to beat the band!! The 5th one was sitting tucked quietly in one of the back corners of the cage and just watching everybody going by. I said, "That's the one I want!! That sweet little pussums in the corner!!! So we adopted her, took her home and named her Penelope.

By the 3rd day, she was actually answering to "DammitCat!" and my husband said, "That cat is NO Penelope!! We have to change her name!!" Well, we had already realized by the end of day one that we were dealing with a feral kitten. I called the shelter and explained that even though I had had cats and dogs all my life, I had never dealt with a feral one. Was there anyone there who could give us a bit of guidance or advice?

The young woman on the phone (who acted as though she were bored beyond belief) said, "Well, you can bring her back and we'll just put her down."

Horrified, I informed her (in rather strong terms) that anyone who would kill a kitten just because they weren't perfectly behaved was lower than the pond scum at the sewage plant!! Then I hung up on her!

That left me right where I had begun! A feral kitten and no idea how to handle her. We went to Wal-Mart and got a heavy squirt bottle (which I stupidly left sitting on the sofa ... she bit holes in it and the sofa was soaking wet when I sat down next morning!). Our first break-through with her was when she was demanding food and I (while cleaning the lacerations on my arm) told her that could doggone well wait until I felt like giving her some food! Well, she quickly realized that we controlled the food and that she had to please us to get some! (And, yes, she made the connection quicker than I did!). And so we never free-fed her again. It was our one point of control in those first few years.

At that point, at my wit's end, I began using dog training techniques with her and .... by golly gosh .... it worked!!! When I picked her up she would instantly bite and claw and I would softly speak to her and the moment she paused I would say "OK!" followed by much praise and instantly putting her down (at which point I would go clean the blood off my arms again!). It didn't take her long to understand that I wasn't putting her down until she got quiet. By the time she was 12, I could hold her in my lap for as long as 10 minutes, never longer. She still would slice & dice me if she wanted something else, though!! Funny thing ... she never ever clawed upholstery or draperies.

By the time she hit her prime (about age 4 .... Maine coons mature very slowly), she weighed 24 lbs. No, she really wasn't fat .... she would stand on her hind legs and her chin would rest on the kitchen counter. She was a BIG girl and had the claws to match her size.

It took me 4 years to get her to the point of being safe to have around guests, and even then I would caution them not to try and pet her because she had teeth like razors and claws like switchblades. During those first few years, people kept asking me if I had a lot of rosebushes! LOL!! (So many scratches!)

Funny thing about LucyFur .... every time I landed in the hospital, she would be inconsolable until I came home. One night she woke me up by butting my face with her head. That was truly odd until I realized I had pulled my oxygen cannula off and I must have been breathing poorly. After one 40-day hospitalization, when I got home and crawled into bed, she jumped on the bed and walked all the way around me 3 times, sniffing every inch of the way. Then she lay down by my knees and stretched one paw protectively across my left knee, and we would both go to sleep. She watched over me. When I was in hospice care for over a year, she got protective of me ... whenever a hospice nurse would come, she would jump on my hospital bed with me, and as soon as the nurse came close to take my blood pressure, etc., LucyFur would growl and start to move toward them!! LOL!! She knew I had looked out for her and so she returned the favor and looked out for me.

I lost my dear LucyFur to liver disease in 2013 (really weird because that is also what's killing me!).

(And no, I am no longer in hospice care! After 15 months, I was doing better and so I "graduated" from hospice care! My husband and I joke that I am now 11 years past my "Use By" date!

Sorry! Didn't mean to get so carried away!! But that's the story of my dear LucyFur.

That is too funny! My Lexi was a stray who just came and stayed when she was around 9 months according to the vet. She has always had a fairly calm personality until she gets wound up while she's playing with us or the dog. I never had her declawed but have threatened to do it myself; when she sneak attacks, it hurts. Lol

Kay -- my 2 cats are so different! BiddeFur (the Maine Coon mix) is a dainty and gentle creature ... actually quite small for a Maine Coon at just under 7 lbs. (Our previous one had tipped the scales at 24 lbs.!), and she dearly loves watching nature programs on the TV. She just sits and watches and makes that funny chattering sound!

Our other cat, Hazelnut (a Bengal mix), is our Wild Child. If she sees another cat or dog outside, she literally throws her self against the window with a mighty thud!! Since she weighs about 13 lbs, we joke that it's kind of like heaving a fur-coated bowling ball at the window!! So far, she hasn't cracked one, but I have been amazed that the windows have held. One night, long after midnight, my 93 year old Mom came into our bedroom in a panic, saying someone was trying to break into the sunroom!! My husband and I both jumped up, headed out to the porch, turned on the spotlights and there -- just outside the window -- was the cat from across the street. Now I don't know why HazelNut hates that cat so much, but she was flinging her whole body against the window to get at that cat!!!

We have another beautiful day of blue skies and sunshine here, though it's a little cool in the house this morning. It's supposed to hit 80 today. Glad Florida got some of the rain. I know they've been needing it badly.

All the best,
Carolyn B in SC

It turned cold here after the rain, only low 50's or so, with the wind it felt colder! After all the warm weather we've had earlier than usual, I told DH, we're getting our March/early April weather in May. My yard looks pretty shaggy, but way too wet to mow; the worst part is now they're saying no drying days until the first of next week. I hate to think what it will look like by then.

Carolyn, sounds like my cat, she imagines herself to be a great bird hunter, but she's not caught one yet, of course, she's not out very much either. When she is, she crouches down behind shrubs and trees, stalking her prey. Lol

Kayde I like the new thread. Sometimes I do get down but I turn to Billy Graham audio books on my Fire Kindle and he is very inspirational.

Carolyn I think your rain moved down to Florida were we needed moisture so badly...I'm enjoying it.

When we first moved into our home 25 years ago the grass was squishy the lawn mower would sink on dry days !!

We have blue sky, sunshine, temps in the mid-70s today!! It's lovely and very welcome after all the rain we've been getting. The cats are supremely happy .... a bird flew against the sunroom window and they went flying to see it! Fortunately the bird wasn't hurt at all, but the cats gave him a proper stare-down before he flew away! LOL!!

Hope it's a beautiful day where you are!

Sounds pretty wet to me. I suspect our yard also squishes, but I have gotten so used to it that I don't notice anymore.

Lesley, it's good you can think of your cancer in that way. I'm sure it helps keep you from being depressed. I think with any chronic illness, keeping a positive attitude is a big help. I try to do that myself! I'd also like to send you some rain, we sure had enough over the weekend! You can't walk across the yard it squishes.
