Can you believe it's already September? It's crazy how fast time goes!! It feels like yesterday it was May and I was graduating from college.

Hey everyone -

2013 is moving so fast, isn't it? I can't believe we're already approaching May 2013! The year is nearly halfway in and its been fantastic. February was my first year anniversary living in this great city and there's still so, so many places to discover.

Does anyone have their top 3 places they love to hang out, meditate or just breathe in the SF awesomeness?

Raemi

Uza;
Thanks for the WooHoo.
I may not have as much control over the weight loss right now but I can make myself keep going. Plus swimming feels so good.

Have a nice weekend.

I just took a long, amazing walk earlier... absolutely beautiful! The weather, the trees blossoming, people smiling, couldn't have asked for better!

emoticon Holy Cats! I don't think there could be two eating plans as far apart as our's. Jack Sprat and his wife....
I think we might have some green vegs in common. Well, you take the high road and I'll take the low road and hopefully we'll both get there. Whatever works.
I haven't been posting too much either. Can't seem to find a place I feel comfy.
Bay Area is a good place to start. Maybe we can get some more folks to start posting here. Most of the others are kinda old.
Nice day for a walk.

Marian

Hi Marian!

Dr. Joel Fuhrman's "Eat to Live" is my nutritional bible for this journey, and it has transformed my life (and me). I cannot get over how much healthier I am already.

Feeling empowered is what it is all about.

Well this is a great place to come for support, although it took me a couple of weeks before I really got ... I was going to say, "the hang of things," but realize I am only just beginning to get a clue! Yet there have been supportive people from the beginning, dropping me encouraging comments, etc. Acknowledging the progress I'm making. And that's what I meant about getting a clue, realizing I too could be doing these things for others. It hadn't even occurred to me, when I first joined. But as with most things in life, the more you give the more you get. IT's win-win-win :)

GREAT JOB on your weight loss so far!!! There are some fantastic articles on SP regarding hitting plateaus, as well as other topics.

Feel free to add me as a friend, and I'll do the same back... we can offer one another support and encouragement.

Hi there;
I too live in the most beautiful place on earth, the SF bay area.

I've got about 100 to go too. Been at it awhile already.

Something you said echoed for me. "too young to feel so old". I was saying that often before I had my hip replaced. I weighed 368 when I went into the hosp.
Hip replacement, Atkins and going to the Y 5 days a week for water aerobics and lickity split 3 years later I'm hovering around the 100 lbs mark. In the interim I've had both knees replaced too. It's amazing how much easier it is to exercise when your knees don't hurt.
.
I felt powerless too. I've been dieting since I was 14. Never had any real success. Then I read Gary Taube's books and realized it wasn't my fault that I couldn't stay on those low fat diets. I was literally starving at a cellular level.
Now when I'm hungry I eat. I eat a modified Atkins/Paleo diet. As much meat, fish, fowl, eggs and fat as I want and anything green. My BP is lower (120/65), my cholesterol is down to 168. I have energy and am seldom hungry. In fact I sometimes have to remind myself to eat or my calories dip too low. I try to stay above 1900.

I joined sparks because I felt the need for some support. I've been stuck at pretty much this weight for 6-8 months. That's when I had my last knee replaced. I know I need to kick up my exercise. I've been doing it slowly. But I'm so impatient. I want to see results NOW!...
Slow and steady wins the race they say but how slow?
Sometimes it just helps to talk to someone in the same boat.

Hope you are doing well.
Marian

There don't seem to be a lot of people active in this team forum, and I think that's sad, because the entire point of these forums is for people to connect and support one another.

So I'm starting this topic in the hopes that others--who maybe usually only lurk, read, and move on--will join in!

My quest at this point is to regain my health. A huge component of that is weight loss, as I am currently over 100 pounds overweight. That is a reality I've been trying to bury my head in the sand to avoid accepting. And there are a lot of reasons that it happened, primarily health issues and severe pain. But it got out of hand long ago, and somewhere along the way I fell into a victim mentality, as if someone else did this to me. As if I was powerless to do anything about it. It honestly felt as if my health was out of my hands....

Fast forward through the long story (we all have one, after all).

Now I am here to take responsibility for my health, to hold myself accountable for my choices, to make significant changes in my lifestyle. To learn from others, as well as to help others.

This journey is very important to me. And I don't believe I can do it without fellow travelers. If you feel the same way, please join me... post something!

Introduce yourself. Ask questions. Share your experiences on your quest to health. Anything!

Let's get this party started!
