Good for you reducing to one cup of coffee!

Coffee was a difficult one for me to let go of ... had been drinking it (by the pots) since 17 years old - dark black, strong coffee. I now drink an instant coffee 'substitute' - Cafix ...made from malted barley, barley, chicory, figs and beet roots , So no caffeine or de-caf 'issues'. It took me a while to adjust to drinking this but the other day I accidentally picked up my husband's coffee cup and it tasted ... terrible to me - ha! (He drinks REAL coffee and always will - ha!) I tried other 'natural' coffee substitutes and found this one to my liking ... I use the crystals form.

I also LIVED on cheese/FOR cheese before ...a day in my life would not go by without multiple servings of cheese ... didn't think I would ever let that go either. I don't care for the 'cheese' substitutes offered in the vegetarian/vegan world so just gave up on that. I do miss cheese! For my pastas I sprinkle on Nutritional Yeast Flakes ... they have a slight nutty-cheesy flavor and are the only source of vitamin B12 in the vegan world (unless one takes supplements which I prefer not to do)...it's NOT an even exchange for cheese taste-wise by any means but it's growing on me - ha! And I need to be sure to get that B12 so.... I sprinkle it on some of my veggies, potatos, popcorn, etc.

Strangely enough the one thing I am having the most trouble with is eggs ... and I wasn't 'that' much of a fan before ... so that's really odd to me - ha! That is my next thing to try to let go of ... I'm down to one a week now.

I'm about 95% vegan now - after 3 years of transitioning ... I have been eating my fave ahi and sashimi from time to time but lately it's not been that 'tasty' to me.

I find this is what happens ... the longer I go without 'something' the less impact/taste it has on me when I do eat it and eventually I can let it go totally. In fact - when I do eat these things now (that I've been without for a long time) my body 'reacts' ... upsets my system/digestion...making it really not worth the effort - or memory - ha! Another observation ... if I do start going off plan and eat animal products a few days my blood pressure starts going back up and I always feel more 'sluggish' and less energetic.

Our bodies 'respond' to the foods we eat quite quickly actually ... most of the time we just are not noticing or do not think our 'symptoms' are reactions to foods we eat.

Wow. No meds or supplements. I eat mostly fruits, veggies, cheese & fish. Very little meat but do eat pasta, usually with cheese. I have cut back to one cup of coffee since my BP is up, usually 150/70. I take meds for raynaults that are given for hypertension.

Thanks for sharing.

I started following a vegan diet ... my blood pressure came down remarkably fast with no medications and over time the hearing/eyesight situations started changing/clearing up ... my eyes seem to 'still' be changing. I also had some skin conditions clear up. The blood pressure was the first noticeable and fastest condition responding to my change in diet - that started lowering within the first week and steadily thereafter. The others took place slowly over a period of time ... year or more. Just slowly improving.

DId nothing else - just started eating 'vegan' ... starch-based veggies, leafy green and other veggies, fruits, whole foods as much as possible (as in whole piece of fruit rather than juice), plant-based eating, whole grains/pastas, beans and legumes, nuts and seeds ... no meats, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy, oils, added sugar, caffeine, alcohol, or packaged foods, no flours ...

Well, that is 'what' I'm shooting for - I 'slip' up frequently ... always feel worse for it too ... also, to lose weight I had to recently drop (or try to) Whole grain breads & crackers, nuts and seeds, avocados and ANY added oil whatsoever (even for cooking - I use 'green' pans and other 'liquids' to cook in).

My health conditions improved solely to my changing to eating real food/no animal products as much as possible - I take no supplements or medications whatsoever.

Thanks Marybeth! I can't believe so much of 'this' year is already past ... I'm not as far along as I wanted to be this year but there has been some improvement!

Speaking of being introverted and hard of hearing ....

I'm not introverted ... but I am a recluse! Always have been to a large degree ... work was about the only thing that got me out and now that I'm retired I tend to stay home MOST of the time. No family here ... and I don't 'regularly' see the friends I have made since moving here. I used to sell at the Farmers Market weekly but have not for the past 2-3 years ... miss seeing the other vendors and community ... am 'supposed' to start back up with that this Fall. Anyway, I see nothing wrong with being introverted or reclusive ... the world can use some of us 'quieter' ones - ha! Though I'm not quiet - or have a lack of words- posting! ha!

I've been hard of hearing for years! Changing to a vegan way of eating not only brought down my blood pressure to normal quickly but I also experienced improvement in my hearing (much to my husband's delight - I had to ask him over and over what he said; now I rarely ever have to ask him to repeat) ... also the ringing in my ears is not constant now ... I go days and days without any at all. My eyesight also improved which amazed me. I've worn glasses and bifocals since age 10. Now I do not have to wear glasses at all except for driving (for distance) ... I can see fine doing my counted cross stitch even without any glasses at all and read as well. Never could before! I wasn't expecting these kinds of changes (and more) but have learned it's not uncommon when changing the diet in this fashion.

My regular exercise routine went on hold for a while due to having had carpal tunnel release surgery. I do my hand exercises regularly though.

Haha! It is the only way I keep up with family. I'm in Wyoming and they are mostly in Mississippi. Not to mention, I'm such an introvert that I've no local friends. The being an introvert really is self-imposed. Being hard of hearing makes life difficult at times.

I haven't posted here yet but thought I would today inspired by DLWHATLEY ...

So my goal for the remainder of 2016 ...

1. Do better incorporating exercise daily ... be it chair exercise, mat work, yoga ... just whatever I 'can' manage and quit 'thinking, lamenting and/or longing for' what I used to be able to do exercise-wise!

2. Learn more about being vegan, educate myself on nutrition, and ENJOY the process.

3. Continue learning tips and ways to address emotional, habitual, cultural eating ... by teams here (100 Days to Weight Loss, No S Diet, and more) and by using my local library ... support them while I improve me - ha!

My goals for 2016? I want to get down to my goal weight. Thirteen pounds to go. I need to continue tracking my food. Who knew I wasn't getting enough food? Wow! I guess that's what I get for being a single, working mom. Hard work but I can't complain one bit. :)

Very good goals, everyone.

How are you doing? I will read more of them later.

My goal right now is to get off of computer & put load of laundry in, make bed & fix a new vegetable dish. It is almost 2 pm, so need to get moving.

well, these are my goals i have posted earlier and i just want to do an update on things so far and add maybe a new one.

i would like to loose 5 pounds in about 2 months...i need to loose more, but i'm starting out small so i can hopefully reach this goal.
( i may be able to do this if i could get a few other things under control first)
eat healthier (for me to eat healthier i need to shop, but i don't)
try not to stress and binge eat. this needs to be a daily goal for me.
(this is a big one for me. i need to get the stress under control first, so unfortunately i binge eat when i get to relax in the evening, i need some huge help with this).
do better tracking on what i eat.
take time for myself (i have been able to get a little time to myself each day)
walk the dog daily regardless of the weather, cold or hot, rain, sleet or snow.
i have been able to walk Panda each day.
clean and organize one room at a time in the house starting with the basement.
organization hasn't panned out yet.
to add;
i'm doing this for me.

I hope to have surgery on my right knee this winter so I can get up and out. Move it and lose it. I want to stick to my good habits and nutrition and get some more weight off my frame.

We are ending one year and starting another new year. What goals would you like to accomplish throughout 2016. These goals are not resolutions, but things we would like to meet the goal. Make your goals small and with in reach so you are not over whelmed at the time and give up. Make a list so we as team can cheer each other on and give each other support when we are struggling.
