Thank you Nicole! I'm currently reading The China Study and have been quoting some of it to my boyfriend. He doesn't really get it. Hopefully, once I start losing more weight and looking better I can point that out to him. Thanks for your support and suggestions!!

I definitely can be challenging, but hang in there. You know why you have made the decision to become vegan and hopefully your boyfriend will eventually recognize how much better you feel and will come to terms with your decision. Maybe if you gave him some facts on being veg he would be more accepting? My boyfriend always tried to push mean on me until I happened to mention how vegans and vegetarians have a longer life expectancy. After hearing this he became more supportive of me and became interested in eater a few meals a week that do not contain meat. Another thing I tried to get my boyfriends acceptance was by pointing out how much better I looked physically. He acknowledged the differences and said "well, if that's why you're looking this good, then i'm not going to complain".
And if all else fails, remember you have everyone here in this Spark team who support your decision and will stand behind you :)

My biggest challenge is the lack of support from the people closest to me.

My boyfriend (I live with him) is still really upset about my becoming vegetarian in January and then vegan in February. He's hoping that it's just a "phase." He still offers me meat all the time and acts extremely hurt when I won't touch the fish he catches. He constantly jokes about putting meat on my salad and makes a huge deal about adding meat to just about anything I cook for him without even trying it.

My friends are a mixed bag. Two are understanding, but I mostly get teased about the way I eat and everyone makes a huge deal over inviting me over for food or anything. I mostly hear that I'm being ridiculous.

I constantly have to keep reminding myself that I'm doing this for my health and it is the right thing for my body- despite what others tell me.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to create a space where people can write about any challenges they may have encountered with becoming vegan. Luckily, I haven't had any struggles with giving up meat and dairy. However, i have had a lack of support from people around me who are not educated about vegan-ism. There are many skeptics out there who are quick to point the finger and say that you are not being healthy by giving up these things. I know I have felt a thousand times healthier, happier, and strong ever since I became a vegan.. so how can it be bad for me? Thankfully, the people who are closest to me have noticed all of the positive changes in me and are starting to support my decision... and seeing all of these positive changes even encouraged my mother to become vegan as well! Yay Mom! :)
