I've been hearing a lot of good stuff on Daiya I just haven't made it to Whole Food and it is quite pricey I think it was like $9.99 for about 1-2 oz. emoticon emoticon

But I will try it.

I did taste a funny taste but it was the Galaxy pepper swiss cheese vegan cheese, so that's why I'll do without it.

I haven't really found one I like yet but then again I haven't tried all but a few. So like the Daiya that's probably next on my list.

Poor hubby they are so use to the other. I usually like to eat the pickled Jalapeno's that seems to help kill those after tastes. Maybe try that. emoticon

yeah! So glad to hear!

I really like the vegenaise too. My Hubby thinks it doesn't taste good - I'm not sure what he is talking about. I'm just trying to get him used to it. Man he can be a pain.

thank you both for you imput.

I think it's just the norm to have cheese on a sandwich, I've been using avocado to replace the mayonnaise and the cheese I really don't need it either.

I just purchased Vegenaise and I actually like it doesn't have an after taste like some of the vegan/veg products like cheeses out there.

I'm thinking also to take my own foods to family gatherings because that's where the pressure is when they offer me food everything is either made with chicken broth or the veggies are mixed in with the meat.

Thanks for the tips gals I think I can do it.

Hi and welcome,

Definately try some of her recipes. I've tried quiet a few and have loved all of them so far. Most are pretty easy too. The rustica pasta was so good.

I definately think going vegan slowly is a good way. Around the first of this year, I stopped eating eggs (except in things that I bought out that already had it in them) and Milk (again except things that already had them in them). I then started trying different milk options like almond, soy, rice, hemp, etc. I tried (and still try) different ice cream alternatives like So Delicious, Rice Dream, the Coconut version by So Delicious. Theer are a ton more I haven't tried.

Then I started to be more concious with the stuff I was buying. There are tons of things you can still buy that are prepared.

I think that most people who are vegan don't worry about things that are made in a factory that produces other things made with milk and eggs. That is a label for those with Allergies. If the recipe doesn't include that I eat it. It's not in the product, but the company has to issue that warning so you don't eat it if you could die from allergies. That is one thing I researched from other vegan's on the Veggie boards and I think everyone who posted said they don't worry about it at all.

Also, there are plenty of products without casien. After a while you know what you can eat and what you can't. It gets easier. I buy a lot at Whole Foods and Trader Joes, but I also fill in the gaps at my local stores and farmers markets.

Giving up cheese was the hardest for me, but it got easier. Now I don't miss cheese at all. There is always Daiya cheese to use when I really need a fix, but for the most part leaving it off sandwiches, pizza and other things has been easy. I just find dressings, pesto's (be careful cheese in commercial kinds a lot of the time), sauces, hummus, spreads, etc. to replace the flavor of the cheese.

Food blogs have also been a godsend to me. Not all are vegan, but a lot are and some people eat a lot of vegan foods mixed in with non vegan foods so I always find gems of ideas hidden away in them. So many good ideas.

Then once you feel comfortable, then you can make the commitment to give it up completely. Remember, Alicia said it's ok to "Flirt" with it until your ready to make a bigger commitment. Flirting helps you test the waters and learn to make these changes without feeling the overwhelming feelings of cold turkey commitments.

Just take it one day at a time. I'm loving it and there is no looking back!

welcome :)
I have struggled with whether or not to go vegan for a while. It is a HUGE jump because like you said, you have to cut out processed foods entirely. I eat them rarely now but making that full time commitment would be tough. Right now I'm sticking with veg, I don't eat eggs and only milk/cheese when it's in something.
Since I became veg I have been bringing my own food with me everywhere. My family jokes about it whenever someone is hungry they're like "just ask mary, she's got some granola or something in her purse". I just hate being in situations where I have to compromise about food. A lot of my friends still don't know I've gone veg (since Jan now!) because I don't really t ell people and they just assume I'm being nice by bringing that salad. :)

Hello joined team a while ago and wanted to stop by and say Hi.

Bought her book about 1 month ago and like what I see still haven't tried any of her recipes but will try eventually.

I'm in the process of going Vegan I think my problem is most products are made in a factory that produces nuts, milk and eggs.

Also my problem in going Vegan has not been successful because a find most things have Casein or when I'm pressured there is cheese in the foods.

I think I can handle it I just need to put my foot down and not be affected by the pure pressure of eating the foods that I am offered when around friends and family.

I think the best thing for me to overcome or give in is to bring my own food or bring something that I can eat that everyone would like.

I'm very excited about this group and hope that I learn the strength to put my foot down and learn recipes and easy making recipes along the way.

emoticon for listening.
