Hi INDIE-V,

Thanks for your comments. I think I get over-scared when I am afraid. And after the elections here, and in France, I was scared.

We also left the US to raise our boys here and have not regretted a single moment, both challenges and easy.

Our boys would have to be dragged away from here kicking and screaming, and now us too. I know it's not easy to come back to your home country (in this case my husband's home country and my adopted country) and make it work, but as you say, it can be done.

I was glad to see you on the page and to read your opinions. I hope to see you again soon. Julie

Although I disagree with some of the more political thoughts expressed by you two ladies (i.e. I hardly find Syriza 'extreme' nor do I think that it would have been such a disaster had we left the EU at the right time), I wholeheartedly support the more important meaning coming out of both messages: That we need to be united and stay strong. And as someone who chose to come back after leaving abroad and try to find work in my own country, I know it's hard but it can be done, and young people should not be discouraged. GOANNA, I do hope you get to enjoy your time in Rhodes and that you'll once again feel that it was the right decision. Let's hope that we'll see the end of the tunnel soon!

Let's spread hope, not hate! You are so right Julie. I am so close
to retirement and my dream was/is to come 'home' to Rhodes to
live out my remaining years but I am seriously rethinking all this.

The Greeks should be united at this time. Don't they realize that
by pulling out of the EU now would mean all the pain and suffering
of the last four years will have been in vain. I cry for my beloved
country and just wonder what the end result of all this will be.

Stay strong my dear. I think of you all and I feel like I'm suffering too!
I don't know what the solution is, and I pray to God that common sense
prevails Kourageio to you and your family.

Well, after this past weekend voting for the Europarliment, and the previous weekends voting for local seats (mayors, governors, etc.) it is easy to see that the extremists are gaining ground.

SYRIZA, a party that is opposed to fiscal responsibility to the EU, and has stated interest in returning to the Drachma (!) (which would basically evolve into Greece's extradition from the European Union), has won 24% of the vote.

Much more alarming is that Xrusi Avgi (Goden Dawn), an EXTREME NATIONALISTIC AND EXTREME RIGHT political party has won 10% of the vote. That may not seem like a lot, but consider the fact that it's leader and five other law-makers are in prison pending charges of criminal organization, and it seems scary.

We have enough to work for here in Greece as a country, as a people, as a contributing member of the European Union, to fight among ourselves, but that is exactly what is happening. Threats, sound bites, political positioning and even desperate acts of terrorism against our own is what it leading many of the desperate members of society.

People have lost job, livelihoods, their pensions cut by 60%, yes, that is a FACT!!!! I have a friend whose husband served as a commander of a ship for his entire career, an uber-educated, resilient and loyal to the end commander, and his pension was cut by 60%. He is NOT an old man. He is is his early 60's, they still have a child at home! They are going into their saving to maintain even the most basic of existence.

Our young people have no where to turn for jobs. Most are leaving to work abroad. Our old people are dis-respected by the government and meant to live on 350 Euros a MONTH, while their health care is being cut and more and more bureaucracy makes their lives impossible. Meanwhile, those lucky enough to be employed are working 60-70 hours a week, often with no over-time, knowing they are just lucky to be employed.

So, what sh aould country do at this time? I believe we need to JOIN TOGETHER and encourage all forms of creativity to get this country back and track and beyond. Stay home young people, work together, start a company of your own, look for backing in the sectors of our society that are making money. Look for investors from overseas. Work at anything! Even if you aren't getting paid, take a paint brush and paint over the graffiti with your friends, bring bottles of cold water to the immigrants waiting in the punishing sun for hours just to get a three week living extension, sell cookies at the beach, do what you can. Think. We all must think and be creative. Invite your friends and family to Greece, show them around, encourage tourism! There is so much we can do besides shoot ourselves in the foot.

I am not a politician nor am I educated in politics. I am a housewife and mother and member of a society that I love, and thinking upon in, would probably give my life for.

Let's spread hope, not hate!
