Pat - fyi, I had the same charger issue but was able to charge it when I plugged into a wall unit with a USB adaptor vs another computer USB. Sounds like you may have sent it back already but apparently the computer USB's don't always give enough juice to charge it.

All Fit Bit team - I'm having an odd issue, was wondering if anyone else has had this. My fitbit is tracking but it's posting the wrong information. For example it knows I walked 2 miles but during those two miles says I'm only burning about 1 calorie a minute ( my sedentary burn) All of my numbers are in the orange on the dashboard activity tab when they used to spike yellow and green during those walks. I'm getting no credit for high activity minutes. This has been happening about a week. I have contacted customer support but no resolution there yet. Help - I really need those numbers to keep my motivation in check :-)

I've sent my Fitbit back. Rockman-I followed your advice about contacting customer support. Their response was just to try things I've already done-use different USB ports, clean the connection, etc. I notice they do not have a phone number where they can be reached. I bought my Fitbit through QVC, which has a 30 day return policy. Naturally my Fitbit worked ALMOST 30 days, so that by the time I get it sent back the return period will be over. What a waste of money. I loved it when it worked, but now--not at all.

1. No, I don't think there are too many minutes brought into SparkPeople from my FitBit. It accounts for all the fairly and very active minutes I accrue when I'm taking a brisk walk or exercising.

2. I think my food tracked on SparkPeople can be seen on my FitBit, but I'm not sure.

3. I like the way they work together pretty much. It's nice to not have to transfer my sleep time, for instance.

Robin, I don't have a phone that will sync to it, still back in the dark ages lol. It has been a little better this week, I really feel it is a FB problem not my connection, because it is doing the same thing using 3 different connections. I did Email FB but their response was for me to do all the things that I do now and to manually sync when it fails.

My fb one often fails to track any steps when I am walking around the house, or to credit me with far fewer than I have taken. Imtried resetting it and that has not helped. Its over 18 months old, so out of guarantee. I dont know if its dying or just being temperamental. Anyone else had similar problems?

I love the connection between FitBit and SparkPeople. I don't think the fitness minutes are too far off, as I'm very active during the day.

I like that sleep syncs from FB to SP and that food goes from SP to FB.

Thank you Rockman. I've sent Fitbit an email using that site. I bought the Fitbit through QVC and its about 30 days since I've gotten it and therefore too late to send back for a refund.

Hi all,

I got my fitbit, synced it to Sparkpeople and it was working fine. But....now the battery is dead and it won't charge. This is very annoying. What is my problem.I'm putting it in the little charger thing and plugging it in the usb port. But I'm not getting ANY flashing lights.
Help!!

Barb, I sync my Flex to my phone 99% of the time. When I do try to sync to my lap top, I have to insert the dongle multiple times to get the site to recognise it. It has been that way since I got it. Using my phone is so much easier.

I would guess from the lack of response that no one else is having trouble with syncing lately, this is going on the third week that my flex doesn't sync automatically, it requires a manual forced sync each time. I don't understand why it disconnects and needs to be repaired multiple times every day when it was not a problem for the first 3 1/2 months I have had the flex. I guess it still works but it is an annoyance to have to keep forcing sync when it used to do it automatically.

I have just started using the fitbit and was excited to see you could link it to sparkpeople. That being said, it has logged me in for 21 minutes of "exercise" this morning when all I've done is walk around the house to get dressed for work and eat breakfast. Not sure why it did that. As for the other questions, I haven't had a chance to play with it long enough to make an opinion.

The only additional sync feature I would like is when I manually enter an activity ie. elliptical on fitbit and if I want to see how that might affect my spark activity minutes or calorie allotment, I have to manually enter it on SP...honestly I don't entirely rely on any of the calorie burned estimates on either site but I can say that fitbit calorie estimates burned when I run very closely matches what my Garmin counts and since the garmin is factoring my HR and pace, I consider that it is probably most accurate. But, I think relying on calorie burn estimates too much can give a false sense of allowance and that doesn't work for me, too easy to think I can eat a pizza if I burned x. LOL

The only time my fitbit says I wake up( a red line) is when I actually get out of bed. Every other time I move it says I'm "ressless", usually 3 to 10 times a night.

Each one of those occasions of "waking up" is only indicative of a body movement. This movement does not mean that you were "awake" only that your FB sensed movement while you were asleep.

I have a question about my flex, it does not auto sync at all any more, I have to do the fitbit connect thing every time, and each time it says "On no we found a problem, the Fitbit connect service has stopped." and I have to ask for a sync. Is Fitbit having a problem? I assume my dongle is ok if the manual sync works. This has been going on for two weeks now.

my fitbit does the same but that is because I am waking up that many times, when I really sleep I don't move at all, I always wake up in the same position I fell asleep. but my patterns of sleep are rarely more then 45 minutes to a hour at a time. You may want to make sure it is not on the sensitive mode if you do move around, it doesn't seem to make much difference with me but a lot of people say there is a big difference.

Just wondered if others are getting horrible sleep readings from fitbit?
I seem to be restless over 10x up to 22x each night awakening 3x - 5x each night.

Am I "normal" or are these very unusual readings?

Please, let the active minutes be the only one that should count.i just started using my ZIp yesterday and i discovered it overestimates the steps, fitness minutes and even the calorie burned.mine even tracks when its in my bag and i am driving, before i get to my destination,it tracks like 2 miles and like 1000 steps which I know didn't count while driving or is there anyway I could manually stop it from tracking when am not active? Just asking . . .

I am already getting upset,I really want it to track accurately, maybe I should stop syncing both.

Hi - Answers to Spark Research

1. No I do not think it takes too much time - I put my food into Sparks - Sync my Fitbit and the food goes right to fitbit - the only problems come about when I put the wrong thing in when tracking food and change it - fitbit will take both amounts or add them all to one meal - but it's not a real big deal. Next I go back to Sparks fitness and sync my fitbit and it's done. I like not having to do everything two times I do not have time for that.

2. I do use the food tracked on Sparks to be seen in Fitbit - both Fitbit and Sparks are different in the amount of calories they allow. Sparks has a general number that does not change unless you change the parameters of your weight loss - Fitbit bases calories on the your parameters and how much effort you have used during the day so on a day when I may run I can eat more calories and I like that - again - I've learned to adjust to the difference and on most days I meet both requirements.

3. Fitbit does not track things like low impact for instance Richard Simmons - I can do 1 1/2 hours of a Richard Simmons and get no more effort than if I was walking very slowly somewhere - I can put it into Sparks but when I sync them it is like I am double dipping because the time frames for both will overlap. So either I do not get enough credit for exercise or I get too much - would be nice if there was a way for them sync exercise times

It is a good thing that I found fitbit connect, thanks to this board, because my fitbit is not connecting much unless I force a sync this week at all, it says the connection has broken and needs to be repaired about 3-5 times a day.

I sync my sparkpeople and fitbit together and have found that I really like it. no I do not feel the minutes are too much but that is because my fitbit keeps me motivated to keep moving even in the evening when I am watching tv I have found that I do not sit still. I am either walking in place during that time or I am cycling. I also add my food to sparkpeople and love the way it goes right to my fitbit page. I have only started using my fitbit again the last two weeks because I misplaced my charger and was on the verge of purchasing another charger when I found mine. now I keep it in my wallet so I know where to find it at all times. but since starting to use it again 13 days ago I have lost 7 lbs. I have no complaints whatsoever. I love the way I am able to sync both sites together it means less data input that I have to do. How can I complain when I am losing weight thanks to sparkpeople and fitbit. when I go to the gym many people ask me about sparkpeople because I wear my sparkpeople shirt when I am working out. (its getting too big. time to buy a new one) and they also ask me about my fitbit because although it is very popular many still do not know what this little device is.

No. I am referring to the START button on your computer (lower left hand side).
The FitBit Connect application was installed onto your computer when you downloaded the program from the FitBit site.

Guess I need some further education in this- by the start page do you mean the dashboard? I have looked all over all the inks in the dashboard and see no link to fitbit connect, does this change from one product to another? I have the flex, and see nothing in the set up pages about fitbit connect..

I searched for fitbit conect and downloaded it and found repair after repair it asks you if you want to sync I said yes so for now it is syncing, I would think this would be on my computer already but I couldn't find it anywhere, now it is in programs. Thank you!

@ GOLDENRODFARM

Have you tried "forcing" a sync via the FitBit Connect application?
You should find the link to this application in your START menu.
Open it and follow the prompts.

over the last few weeks I am having a harder and harder time syncing with my computer, sometimes it is hours and I have had a lot of activity but it is stuck on say 5,pm and now it is 11pm, I like to know where I am in steps but that has gone out the door, I had one day that it lost about 5 hours of activity so my steps were way too low, now tonight it won't sync again, tried resetting, pulling out the dongle, closing the program, tapping the flex, nothing works, it is very frustrating, I get the feeling it is not long for this world and it is only 3 months old. It would be really handy to have something to click to make it sync.

Does anyone know how to "sync" the fitbit stats to a tablet.
The tablets don't have USB ports, so I can't plug in the doggle.

They both have blue tooth. The MacBook, app cost $4.99 so I gave up on that.
The Toshiba Excite installed the app, but doesn't seem to be able to find the fitbit.

My phone finds it, but I am going on a trip where my phone won't be working.
SO I wanted to bring a tablet to work with it. I am doing a challenge with my health insurance company, and I have to log so many active min of exercise each week.
I have leaving for 2 weeks. I am sure I can find wi fi somewhere in Europe... but how can I get the fitbit to sync?

Any ideas?

Pat,
The activity minutes are very accurate. The burned calories are accurate when your activity involves walking or running activities but can be somewhat low when performing weight lifting exercises or any other body movement exercises, i.e., pilates and yoga..

Thanks Rockman. I'm with the BLC 25 team and we must register our fitness minutes someway, pref. on that page. So that's what I'll do.
Do you think the min/cal. are accurate for the Fitbit?

@ PATLOW :

Yes. If you log in this activity onto your SP you will be doubling your calorie burned data. You can log in the activity in the NOTES section of your Fitness Page if you want to keep a record of a specific activity.

I've lost my fitbit and bought a new one to replace it. My problem is I can't seem to register it on the fitbit webpage. Anyone have any tips on registering a replacement?

Here's my question

I've linked my Fitbit with Sparkpeople. So now whenever I go to my start page I see my exercise already logged. Now if I take the dogs for a 45 min walk I shouldn't come back and log in 45 min. under my fitness tracker??

1) Do you feel there are too many minutes brought into your SparkPeople account for your FitBit?

Yes, there used to be an option to only import the steps and I wish I could do that so I could see the breakdown of what I'm doing on sparkpeople. I feel like I'm getting "too much credit" for what I do because I use fitbit like an activity tracker - so I'll use it to track my massage job even though that's not technically exercise.

2) Do you use the feature for your food tracked on SparkPeople to be seen on FitBit?

No, I use myfitnesspal and THAT links to my fitbit. You also used to be able to link MFP and SP and I don't think you can any more.

I'd like to see the fairly active and very active minutes broken out. Calorie counts seem high - I had to switch to not adding calorie allowance for activity because I was gaining weight, but then for very active days , I need to fudge an increase so I'm not starving. Might work better if only very active minutes affected calorie allowance? I think it might be double-dipping on BMR calories.

Food sync is frustrating because I eat a lot of salads for lunch and dinner - typically I will log a salad food grouping that is mostly ok, then delete and add to get to what I really eat. The deletes never come off the fitbit site, and it's hard to edit over there, so when deletes don't sync, it ends up making the fitbit food tracking features useless to me.

Would be nice if water synced. I liked the sleep sync, but don't wear my fitbit to bed anymore.

MAKINITLAST, the reason your Spark minutes are higher than the very active minutes on Fitbit... Currently, Spark's exercise minutes equals your Fitbit very active minutes plus your fitbit moderately active minutes. I actually agree with this, the Center For Disease Control's guidelines for exercise for adults includes a certain number of vigorous exercise minutes (very active on Fitbit) or a certain number of moderately active exercise minutes, or a combination of both. (By their guideline if you do all your minutes vigorous you don't need as many minutes, if a mix the vigorous counts as twice as much as the moderate). Sparks combination of very and moderately active minutes is more in line with tracking CDC guidelines than fitbit's very active minutes tile. You can see your moderately active minutes on fitbit--flip your very active tile then choose "see all". You can also see them color coded as "yellow" on the "todays activity" tile (very active are coded green, sedentary/light activity orange). The problem with the "today's activity" is you cannot easily see how many minutes are in each category.

Here is the CDC site that describes their guidelines: http://www.cdc.gov/physicalactivity/everyo

1) Do you feel there are too many minutes brought into your SparkPeople account for your FitBit?
Yes - I show only 3 minutes of activity on my Fitbit while SP shows 21... seems like something is wrong somewhere.

2) Do you use the feature for your food tracked on SparkPeople to be seen on FitBit?
Yes -

No more excuses!

I wouldn't want "very active" to only count either. I have arthritis and exercising is difficult so I would still like the exercise I do to count otherwise I'd probably never get any "very active" at all.

I've had my Fitbit for about 2 weeks and when exploring this morning regarding activiites that are entered into activity log this is what I found out.

This is what I got off the website regarding activities for the FitBit; I hope this information helps. It was a good insight for me.

How do I log or record an activity?

There are two ways to account for an activity in your Fitbit account:

Manually log the activity using the Activities page on your dashboard.
Create an activity record by holding down the button on your tracker.
Manually Logging an Activity

Manually logging an activity works well for those activities where step count isn't the best indicator of the calories burned. If you are doing an activity that does not require steps (like cycling, swimming, or an elliptical machine), or an activity that requires more than just steps (like tennis or yoga), you can use an activity log to improve the accuracy of this activity's contribution to your caloric burn.

All steps and calories recorded by your tracker are overridden for the duration of a manually logged activity by the activity's entered values. This ensures that your steps are not counted twice as long as the manually logged activity has the correct start time and duration.

Yes - I would prefer that only Very Active minutes transfer to SparkPeople.

2) Do you use the feature for your food tracked on SparkPeople to be seen on FitBit?
Yes - I like having my food transfer to FB so that I can use FB to be sure I don't eat more that I have burned

1) Do you feel there are too many minutes brought into your SparkPeople account for your FitBit? Sometimes there is a glitch where I have lots of active or very active minutes and it brings them over to SP but the calories seem to be way too low, like for example one day I had 320 minutes and it used 234 calories but the next day it was 198 minutes and used 905 calories which seems too high. It seems to me it is all kind of eratic.

2) Do you use the feature for your food tracked on SparkPeople to be seen on FitBit?
I don't use SP for food tracking, started somewhere else and it was just too hard to transfer my recipes.

3) Any general suggestions for making SparkPeople and FitBit work better together? they seem to be syncing better then before, I had to manually sync before or it wouldn't count my steps, I almost always do more then 10 K steps but there are many days earlier that only recorded 4 K or 8 K. When I log fitness in MFP it carries it over to fitbit but not when I log it into SP not sure why, when I want to see what is going on with fitbit I just go to the dashboard, there is bound to be some discrepancy between the two with such a wide variety of responses.

1) Do you feel there are too many minutes brought into your SparkPeople account for your FitBit? - Yes! I have an active job, and I know that what I do must be over and above my "normal" activity level to improve my fitness level. (I am a Physical Therapist Assistant) It counts so many minutes that I have no idea how it calculated them. I am guessing the sum of moderately active and very active fitbit minutes.

2) Do you use the feature for your food tracked on SparkPeople to be seen on FitBit? No, I do not use the food tracker much. Am trying to start using it, but I am not finding it motivating for me at this time. I did notice that when I tracked foods on SparkPeople, they carried over to fitbit.

3) Any general suggestions for making SparkPeople and FitBit work better together? I like that FitBit transfers my step count to SparkPeople, but I also wear a pedometer, and on my typical days, the pedometer reads between 1,000 and 2,000 more steps than the fitbit. Usually not a problem, but if I am just barely at the 10,000 on my pedometer, sometimes I have to make an extra effort to complete 10,000 according to my FitBit. I don't know how to manually override the FitBit's entries.

Thanks!
