As much as I love the show, I'd point out to Ryan Murphy that he HIMSELF is a copyright holder who has the right to say how his work is used. I'm sure he exercises that right on a regular basis, and that his answer is probably no as well.

As a former rock singer, I can understand why some bands don't want their music on the show. Rock music isn't supposed to sound perfect & pretty; the whole point of rock music is that it's raw emotion (rock originated from the blues). The challenge of singing rock is to stay on pitch while everything around you is extremely loud & distorted, and there are many rock vocal techniques that are physically impossible for classically trained voices to do. So no, I don't think the bands are worried about their own vocal performances at all.

All that said, I am a Gleek, and all parties behaved badly.

Kings Of Leon said no quite a long time ago, and I'm wondering why Ryan Murphy waited until now to declare war on them. I remember reading a little snippet about it a few months ago, and the guys hadn't even really heard about the show. They were just worried about saturating the market with their songs and having everyone get tired of them.

I think part of the problem is that the show has gotten so popular that now's the time for people to start bad-mouthing it. What's the saying? The only thing people like better than a success story is a downfall? It goes something like that.

Plus (and I need to add this to be catty), the show does so many songs better than the originals that perhaps some of these groups have cause to be a little worried. :-)

It's their own stupidity. Do they have any idea how popular Glee is, and what the exposure could do for their sales?

"...there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

"We're children of a fighting race that never yet has known disgrace." (The Soldiers' Song, Irish national anthem)

"Every day above ground is a good day." (Chef Justin Kennedy of New Orleans, on Chopped)

I agree. I guess some bands would feel their image doesn't work with something like Glee, but they don't have to rubbish it in the process of declining. :-)

I would love to hear some of their songs done on Glee but it is their perogative. Wish it could have been more of a thanks but no thanks rather than the bashing.

Saw an article on the BBC today about Kings of Leon getting in a spat with one of the Glee producers about using one of their songs. In the article, Gun's and Roses were also outed as refusing to co-operate, saying that Glee is worse than Grease!! I loved Grease too, so doubly miffed by that. LOL
Anyone hear of other bands or singers that have said no?
