Drew begins a clinical trial today with new chemo drugs and antibody therapy in the hopes of keeping the tumor from growing for a little while longer.

The CT scan showed there is a 2 cm mass on a lymph node behind his bowel, that has doubled in size since the June scan. It is certain enough that it is Nueroblastoma again that they aren't even going to do the biopsy because it also was so "hot" on the MIBG scan. From here, they are going to begin a trial at Mayo on Monday, that gives him new chemos and antibody therapy in 3 week cycles, starting each with infusions for a week at the beginning. They will complete two of these cycles and re-scan to see if the mass has either remained stable or shrunk. If it has, they will continue and can do up to 17 cycles total. If not, they will have to make other decisions on what else they want to try. The doctor explained that with progressive disease, they probably won't be able to cure him. As in, she personally knows of no long-term survivors with this kind of progressive, high risk Nueroblastoma. That, obviously, is a hard pill to swallow. As I said earlier this week, I may not be on here as much for a while, but will try to check into the team each day.

Drew did not get the news today that we expected. Everyone assumed these scans would be good, but they were not. There are two spots that are larger and brighter then in June. he will have a CT scan and a biopsy tomorrow to confirm it is Neuroblastoma. Right now I need to take some time away I will try to log on every day but if you don't see me around as much you will know why. I will let you all know what happens with the meeting with his doctors tomorrow.

I was so hoping to hear that Drew was finished with all the chemo and radiation but I guess time and patience will see him to be clear of the tumor and any cancer. Poor baby has been through so much in his young life. My prayers continue always for Drew and your family of course.

Drew is now home, he will go in on Thursday and they will put a central line back in (this had to be removed with the last infection he had) and then do an MRI. That will help them to set up his radiation schedule once they read that. They will have a meeting with the radiation team on Monday and then start radiation treatments on September 26th.

I will be keeping you and your son in my prayers that all goes well for him.(and you) during this process.

Molly is such a pretty little girl. I'll just bet she loves school Deb.
How is Drew coming along? I hope he is home now and recovering from the last bout of chemo therapy.

The weather here is so pleasant now that the really hot days have passed us and I am enjoying plenty of power walking.

Still have a couple of appointments this month for the transplant with Friday being to the surgeon who will do the surgery to remove my kidney for my son.
My son and I both go at the end of the to see our designated social workers and then my last appointment is on October 4th with my designated kidney doctor. My son's last appointment is a test to just make certain his bladder is in good health . After that appointment we will be given the surgery date (which will be some time in November)

Always plenty to keep us busy here. Hope you are having a great week and send best wishes that are your goals be met.

Giood morning everyone,

I am off to Brantford for the day to my daughters.
Taking the three dogs with us as well as my older daughter and our grandson. My son in law's mom is coming up as well with her brother so it should be a greatfamily day.

Way to go on the steps Deb, that is awesome.

I hope everyone enjoys this beautiful day.

It's been another very hot day here in southern Ontario and I spent 4 hours cleaning my sons apartment for him while he was at dialysis. He was so happy when he came home and saw what I had done he called me right away to thank me.

After dinner I took the dogs out for a 4 mile power walk and they were well worn out by the time we were done. Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter so I am going shopping at the mall and will get some indoor fitness when I get back home.

Sending out best wishes to all for a fabulous day tomorrow.

Hi everyone!

I wanted to give you a heads up that we have a new feature, SparkPeople Premium, launching tomorrow! This new option will change nothing about the current site, which will continue to remain completely free. It's just an additional option for those of you looking for more from your SparkPeople experience.

Hi everyone,

I did just fine for July. I was on a mission to drop a couple of pounds and did just that (4lbs)
This has been a great weekend for me with yesterdays celebrations for Canal Days and today going to see my granddaughter's dance production. I was not aware that she would be doing a solo act and it was without a doubt phenomenal.

Meagan will be studying theater arts and dance at George Brown College next Sept 2017 as she wants to become a professional dancer. She has dreams of doing Disney Cruise lines.

Next month my goals are to continue with my healthy trend and get the final 4 pounds off. I WILL be successful, no doubts no excuses.

Good morning team,

its been an active weekend so far with going to Canal Days Celebration yesterday and then back there in the evening for two bands. Had an awesome time with my husband and oldest son Ryan.
I am in a rush right now to get ready as I am going to my granddaughter's dance production. She is studying under a professional Canadian dancer (Everet Smith) and in order to dance in his productions you have to audition. Meagan has worked hard and is in the production and am so excited to see it. This is not like the average dance recital I have been to over her years of dancing with a regular school.

Meagan plans to study dance and theater arts at George Brown College in September 2017 because she wants to be a professional dancer. She has the talent and has wanted this all her life. She was born to entertain.

Sending best wishes out to all for a fabulous day.

LOL on the free fitbit, the person that gave it to me was a family member that just wants to see me get back on track! Mine is the charge HR, and I am loving it so far. I was really surprised at my sleep pattern the first few days.

Hello Kayah,
so good to see another post from a member. Yes, I am giving my son a kidney before the year's end. I still have my CT scan to do on August 12th which is see where exactly they will cut and then I see the surgeon and social worker on September 29th (my son's 40th birthday)

My son has been diabetic since age 2 and it began taking it's toll on him in his mid twenties when he became legally blind. Two years ago he had 2 heart attacks and the second one rendered him with the need a quintuple bypass. His kidneys then began to fail and just this May he began dialysis. I am giving him my kidney as soon as all the prework is completed. They have told me it should happen before Christmas and am thinking probably mid November.

My sister has been acting Principal many times over the past couple of years but was never paid extra for it so now she will be . Thank you for your good wishes and also for posting. I was starting to think that only Deb and I were in communication and it is so great to hear from another member.

I make my characters and posties using a program called Paint Shop Pro. It is much like PhotoShop which I have as ell but I like the Paint Shop Pro much better. I am a graphic artist and used to have my own website where members paid a fee to logon and download my work for their own use. I love making graphics but I don't get too elaborate any longer. I also used to make web page designs but once blogging started a few years back, personal page designs became almost obsolete.

I hope this thread gets more communicative over the new few weeks as I know we have a lot of great members here.
They just have to come out of their shells and not be so shy LOL..
Hope everyone is having a great day.

Hi everybody!

Deb-I responded to your question about the FitBit in the 24th of July thread! I love my FitBit though and it keeps me on track. Who are these lucky people who receive FitBit's and Moleskine for free? (LoL just kidding!) Anyhow, just concentrate on staying healthy and getting in more exercise incrementally so you can be there for Drew!

Susan-Good luck to your sister earning a spot as a Principal. She is doing the heavy lifting now so she can earn her promotion and be where she wants to be! Enjoy seeing your posts in the posting for goodies thread. Wondering about how to make up my own different characters and words to post~

I just scrolled back a little further and noticed Susan you are donating a kidney to your son, wow! I almost did the same a few years back for my brother but he said if he can get by on one then I should keep both of mine lol~

Good morning all,

Deb, this is great! I am so glad that you are starting to get back to walking again.
I am elated that Drew is coming along with his treatments as I have been praying for that sweet little boy all along.

I know how these things can side track you and pull you down but keeping in mind that we have to stay strong and healthy so we can help those who need our support as well as helping ourselves, it will all work out if we stick our plan. I wish you well as you continue on your healthy journey.

I am off to my mother's today to take her shopping and then we will probably go out for coffee or lunch. It is so hot that she has not been able to get out much except for my visits and when my sister can get over to visit.

My sister is a teacher and although school is out, she has been taking the Principal's Course so she has still been in school up until the end of last week. Now she has lots of work to still do at home but she has passed all of her tests (I knew she would because she is a brain) and hopefully will get a position as a principal in one of the local schools.

I am sending out best wishes to all for a fabulous, happy and healthy day.

I was given a wonderful gift a few days ago. I was given a fitbit and the only thing I had to do was promise to walk at least 7,500 steps a day. They knew if they told me I had to start out getting the 10,000 steps a day that is recommended I would never be able to do it, to be honest I have not exercised very much at all in the last 7 months since we found out about Drew, I guess my mind had been other places. anyway yesterday I got in 7,900 steps and today I am at 8,300 with about 3 more hours to go before bedtime. I know this will help me get back in the exercise routine again, and so far I am loving my new fitbit!

I would love to be able to see members chatting so we can get to know each other better.
I have been on this team for quite a while now but barely ever see anyone communicating through this thread,

Are you out there? LOL.
Why not strike up a conversation so we can get this team more communicative.
Would love to find out about others and your healthy journey. Are you doing well? Are you struggling? Are you maintaining or just beginning?
Why not tell us a bit about yourself so we can make more friends here.

I do hope everyone is having a great summer and a fabulous week. emoticon emoticon

The following is from Coach Jen

Hi everyone!

We wanted to give you a heads up about a new header that will be launching on the site tomorrow. Here's a look:

The menus will work in basically the same way, except that there are a few new options like videos and challenges. Hopefully these changes will help you access the features you use even more easily!

Thanks!

Coach Jen

I'm feeling kinda sluggish today, like I have to push myself to do anything.
But I did workout and chose healthy nutrition so far.

Trying to do a variety of exercises in spurts every day. Stop when totally out of breath, then get back to it. Heart rate of 165 I can handle; higher makes me feel nauseous and ready to pass out.

1) Ripped Total Body Challenge: Shoulders and Arms
(I did this one first because it's the most challenging for me)
www.sparkpeople.tv/video.asp?id=184

About this Workout
Time 07:16
Calories Burned 70

2) 9-Minute Seated Arm and Shoulder Workout (Coach Nicole)
www.sparkpeople.tv/video.asp?
id=645

About this Workout
Time 09:05
Calories Burned 29

I managed to do both workouts back to back w/ 5lbs dumbbells.
(I misplaced my 2lbs dumbbells. I can't find them right now.)

emoticon emoticon emoticon

Cardio for today: 30 min walk (3 mph) and 45 min bicycle ride (about 13 mph)

My body pleaded for a day of rest, so no intense workouts today.
Still walking and some basic strength training, and maybe later today a bike ride?

And I really wanted some fried chicken today, so I gave in.
I did remove some of the crust on the chicken and only had a small handful of fries.
Still ... this is a heavy meal and I do not feel like repeating it today, so the rest of the day will be portion and calorie controlled.

Still feeling really good about myself.
And I hope all of you are also having a great day.

Started 5/13 - 250 lbs
6/1/16 - 240 lbs = 10 lbs lost
6/14/16 - 233 lbs = 17 lbs lost

Did not measure when I started. I was way too embarassed.
I can see and feel that I have lost volume over the past month - especially
around the waist, belly and hips - because my pants are a lot less tight.
I did measure today.

Waist: 41
Hips: 54
Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR): 0.76 = Pear shaped
Below chest: 40
Over the chest: 48

I am in charge of what I want for myself,
for my physical and mental health,
for my body issues and my mobility.
And I know I can do this !

1) My nutrition rate

This is sort off a sore subject for me because I need to lose A LOT of weight in AS SHORT a time as possible. I know, Sparkpeople reinforces here that slow weight loss is bettter than fast weight loss, but for me a lot depends on me losing a minimum weight FAST.
When I first joined I was told by doctors to eat between 750 and 1000 calories a day and to exercise a minimum of 30 mins every day (basic minimum mobility - not jumping or running, but walking and exercising my muscle groups).
When I joined Sparkpeople I was given a nutrition rate between 1200 and 1500 cal/day, which seemed way too much for me. Eventually I did make it to between 1200 and 1350 cal/day.
Now - because of my daily exercise (and not even high beat cardio with jumping etc.) my nutrition level has been increased to 1650 to 2000 cal/day and that is ridiculously high. How am I supposed to lose a lot of weight when I eat more than I burn, even taking my metabolic rate (which I think is almost non-existent judging from my weight issues over the years) into account. I am really worried that what I have lost so far will all come back if I eat that many calories every day unless I increase my workouts to burn more than 2000 cal every day.

2) My exercise: and in my opinion I am doing pretty good ...

--- Average 5/13 through 5/24: 107 mins / 461 cals
--- 5/25 through 5/31: fell off the wagon and took several days to get myself back on track.
--- Average 6/1 through 6/13: 120 mins / 704 cals

That is nowhere near the amount of food cals I am supposed to eat.

3) Positive attitude

--- Now I wake up energized. When I first started. I was more like a zombie until after several cups of coffee.
--- Now I wake up feeling in charge and ready to face the day. Before I wanted to hide from the new day by putting my head under the covers to try and postpone needing to get up.
--- Now I check for positive reinforcement online on a daily basis, I blog and I share posts online in a few groups. That really helps me to get in a 'I can do this' mood.

4) Goals

--- My first goal is to lose the initial 10% of my starting weight. I will be weighing in on Thursday 6/16 and then again on 7/1 (twice a month)
--- My next goal will be 20% of my starting weight (50 lbs)
--- After that, my goals will probably be 10 lbs at a time because by then my weight loss will more than likely start to really slow down.
--- In the end I need to lose a minimum of 40%, hopefully 50% eventually.

5) I can use all the help I can get to keep myself upbeat and positive and in control of my own future, my own life.

My daily mantra:
I am abundant in every aspect of my life
I am happy - I am joyful
I am in excellent health
I am centered and well balanced.
I radiate happy joyful energy
