I have cruised Princess and RC in Alaska. In Juneau I would recommend the sea plane to the Misty Fjords and stop at the Red Dog Saloon for some old time food and fun. We also took a plane to the glaciers which was spectacular, I think that was in Skagway. In Ketchican you can walk to alot of places to see totem poles, there is alot of stores to shop in. We did a tour of the National Park to see bears and a old logging camp.

WOW!! The Golden? That is one of their large ships, we are sailing her next Jan to Hawaii and she holds over 2,000. I have been to Alaska, but haven't cruised it yet. What route are you going? It really depends on your interests. Myself I love the mining history, wildlife, and the terrain is different. There is also the glaciers. Homer has the largest Eagle population (bald). But if you get a chance to eat baked salmon, by the natives...Wonderful!

Hi Gramma--

We will be on the Golden Princess sailing round trip from Seattle. I think the ship carries over a thousand passengers which is quite large compared to the river cruise boats that e have been on. Our last trip only had 148 passengers. Anyway, we are looking forward to trying this, and have never been any where near Alaska. We got notification last week that we can book our shore excursions at any time now. Any suggestions? Should we skip the planned excursions and just explore the cities on our own? Anything that is a must see or must do?

Which ship will you be on? There are only a few that Princess sails up there because of the size of the ships and the passage ways. You won't really be on one of the larger "class" ships. One thing about all the Princess ships I have been on, the are really easy to get around on. emoticon Are you doing a round trip or land and sea?

Hello all.
My husband and are going on our first American cruise...to Alaska (on Princess) in July. We have taken river cruises in Europe, on much smaller ships, and were wondering what to expect on these large ships. Also, any shore excursions or places that are must sees in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway or Victoria? Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated.
