Denise - When my husband was doing chemo for his lymphoma, he had a lot of sores in his mouth. They gave him a compounded liquid medicine - they called it Miracle Mouthwash and he was to swish and swallow 4 times a day (2 1/2 years later and we still have a bottle in the fridge). I wonder if something like that would help your husband?

Lots of hugs to you. I joined this Team five years ago when my son, Nathan had Testicular Cancer. He's a survivor now of five years, after surgery and four rounds of chemotherapy. He had applied to medical school at UF at that time, but since he'd had the cancer they didn't take him. He still plans to go to med school. He spends a lot of time working out and keeping fit. He was told that since he's had so many cat scans/xrays for follow up, that when he is in his 40s he could develop cancer again, but that was the price he had to pay, so he works at staying fit. No fluoride, etc. When he had the cancer his weight was down to 170#, and it is back up now to a fit 205#. (He' 6" tall.) The cancer had spread to his lymph nodes in his groin.
Dr. Mercola on his web site writes a lot about the Ketogenic Diet for cancer patients. I have found his lectures on YouTube to be very interesting.
I read once that a family man should carry disability insurance, because he is for more likely to need it in his lifetime than Life Insurance. Not being able to work from an illness can certainly be a money issue and cause a lot of stress.

Still waiting. He was not released to go back to work. He is not gaining strength back. Has an after effect causing some issues. It's like cold sores pop up as the day goes by in his mouth and down his throat. He can eat breakfast just fine but then his mouth and throat blisters up ax time goes by and he can't hardly swallow by super. Doc put him on a medicine and said it would take 4 days to tell a difference. Friday he started them and yesterday it already seemed to be a little better. Wishful thinking, just a good day or did it really help that quickly. He goes back to doc next Friday to see if he's able to eat yet. Then they will decide about work.

Thought I'd update. He finally got his last treatment done the 3rd. He ended up with a 3rd degree burn on his neck. Had to wait for it to heal, then we got snowed in. He's has some after issues. Doc said he couldn't go back to work for 1 or 2 months. Don talked him into re-evaluating that on Feb 14. He's hoping to go back March 1st at least part time. He ended up with the burns in his mouth, so could hardly eat. Doc was concerned that his body wasn't absorbing nutrients, but now that he can eat better he is actually up 1 1/2 pounds. It can only get better from here, but learning to be patient has been really something. I realized this week that after learning he can't work (so no money), I did get stressed about it, but faced it head on instead of turning to food. That wasn't even an option.

He's half way done with radiation as of today! Really feeling it and seeing it. He looks burnt. Getting harder to eat. Sleeping even more. I messed up yesterday trying to take care of him I skipped taking care of me. Ended up eating poorly. Then just kept making bad decisions today. A friend called me on it so back on track.

I had radiation treatments for breast cancer and I am a 13 year survivor. I only had discomfort after the last 2 treatments because I am very fair-skinned. I will keep you in my prayers.

i am not going to get old until i am 110 and then i'm going to think about it!!!!

My mom's was in her left groin area. Then after radiation they found a tumor in the middle lobe of her right lung, they removed that last November just before Thanksgiving. In March the did a pet-scan & the melanomas had spread all through her body. She had over 100 tumors inside & out. They did 2 chemo treatments & she would not eat & we lost her just after 5:00pm on Mother's Day. She is in a better place now she is with my older brother. This all started with a black streak on her toe nail that she did not have checked out until 2.5 years later because she did not have any feeling in her feet. By the time they found the melanoma under the nail it had spread to the lymph nodes & then all over her body. emoticon emoticon I will continue to pray for both of you. Please keep me up to date. Lisa.

Thank you. He goes everyday for 6 1/2 weeks. We've been told a lot of good helpful information about it. There is still that unknown. How weak or sore will he get from it. How long will it take to recover. According to the book they gave us each person is different and recover time can be from 3 weeks to 3 years. I'm a planner. Want to know whats going on and what time frame. This unknown crap stresses me out. I'm also a fixer and just can't save him from this pain. We are having our thanksgiving dinner tomorrow while he can still eat. Maybe I should mention he has oral cancer so the radiation will be in his mouth and across his throat.

DH is starting his radiation this Tuesday. For some reason I'm very stressed about it. Come to find out he is too. Neither one of us can figure out why it's upsetting. This is what he's been working toward. Took almost a month to get all his dental work done then heal. We've been anxious that it was taking so long but now having a date set seems to be worse. Aaaaarrrrrgggggg.
