Hi Linda, I'm finding that it helps to have meals planned at least for the day. Since I work I usually have stuff made to grab and go in the frig. This week I have yogurt with fresh fruit all measure out and cut up so all I have to do is take the container and for lunch I make big salad with chicken sausage. I only use balsamic vinegar for dressing, it makes it easy and I can control the calories. I'm guessing being at home makes it a bit easier for meal planning since you have the kitchen at your finger tips...well I guess it can be easy or a curse :)

For adding more to your workout I have a set of 5 lbs weights that I use to do arm curls you can do it during a commercial when watching TV. My favorite is I do situps every morning on the edge of my bed. I started out just doing 10 and now I do 100 in the AM and another 100 in the evening. It helps build the muscles in your stomach and back and for me it always makes me feel like I have really accomplished at least a bit to better health.

I hear you about the falls etc... it is hard to see my husband who has been strong and self sufficient needing help.

I'm here if you need to chat.

Hi! Sure am glad to see so many responses. When I joined Spark for the second time I tried for the first day, and my ulcer started acting up again. My ulcer is triggered by stress which I have to eat eery few hours and drink milk per my gastro Dr. So I am trying not to eat high fat items but drinking the milk is not helping the diet out.
I sure am glad that I took a leave of absence and next week retiring. My huband fell last night twice and the last time he scraped his back on the door frame and put a cut on his head but it did not bleed very much.
My cable company has a walking DVD so I am going to start that. What do you think one small change would be to start with.
I am so happy you wrote me and I probably will use you to vent or whatever.
Thanks Linda

Hi I can certainly relate, my husband has stage 3 pancreatic cancer and started radiation treatment this week. We have a 14 year old and I work full time, He has lost 90 lbs so far and is sleeping a lot and weak. I'm not sure how much longer I can keep up the pace and be away from home, he has fallen a few times and the last time the emts had to be called because he couldnt get up on his own.

So you see I know exactly what you mean and how critical it has become that I take the best care of me to be able to care for him. I'm not sure it will help but my approach lately has been to control the one thing that I have full control of and that is what I eat. Slowly it has become easier and I starting to see progress. Even if it's making one small change a day toward better eating habits, get in a few minutes of exercise etc...

I'm here if you need to talk, vent, cry ... you are stronger then you think!

You need nearly all your energy taking care of your dh. I was in the same boat as you are last year. My dh passed away from lung, bone and brain cancer last June. I put on almost 30 lbs. Mainly because I was so busy taking care of him that I neglected myself. Since his passing I am now putting myself first. I go to exercise classes three times per week and am careful with what I eat. Anything that I am not supposed to eat, I do not buy. When it is not in the house it is much easier to avoid.

My prayers and thoughts go with you in your difficult time.

Dianne

HOPE is not pretending that there's never any sorrow - It's the knowledge that our troubles will be overcome tomorrow. It's the inner strength we call on to sustain us now and then, till our problems lie behind us and we are happy again

It has been such a long time since I been here and finally realized I really need all of you!! When I was much younger I remember not eating when things became stressful and now I eat everything in sight.
My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer 06/12 which spread to the brain 12/12. I am now going to retire to care for him.He started out 185 and now down to 120 lbs.
I need to be healthier so I am not in the same shoes as him
Dont know how to start or to keep going on this new way of controlling what I eat..

Thanks for any input
