So sorry to hear about your nephew. My condolences. Keeping my fingers crossed that your son will continue to be cancer free.

My nephew who was 54, passed away last Monday from Lymphoma, which he had been dealing with for several years. My son, Nathan, has his six month check next month, as he had Testicular Cancer in January '09. He is 28 now and still plans to go to Medical School when he has been cancer free for five years.

I will also be praying, Nancy. My dh has had one full-body CT scan since his radiation/chemo, and he was petrified. I'm a stoic in situations like that (I break down later.). He'll have scans maybe twice a year to monitor bone degradation, new tumors.

The only cancer incident here was Michael taking a fall off the front porch and scraping his shin and forearm. That was Wed. at 2pm. He didn't stop bleeding until some time during Thursday night or this morning. (blood thinner). I ran to the store and bought red towels, and we wrapped him up in bandages and towels so he could sleep without staining everything. He was so cute, slowly pulling the bandage from his leg or arm and inspecting every little drip of blood. He FINALLY got a clot the size of a golf ball, and that was utterly fascinating to him! Meanwhile, I've moved the exercise bike back into the living room so I can ride while watching TV. I've been bad about diet. Looking forward to Michael taking care of himself more so I can get outside.

Good luck, Carol.

As to your question, I think it is because men have a tendency to define themselves by their physical attributes. Whether it be the size of their penises or the size of their pecs, biceps or deltoids.

Your thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. My DH goes in for a PET scan tomorrow.

He was diagnosed a year ago, went through 2 1/2 months of intense inpatient chemo, and was declared in remission last Dec.

I pray he is still in remission.

Hi Fabtab, great to hear from you. So glad to hear that your dh is off chemo and radiation for now. Hopefully the cancer continues to grow slowly. I think Sparks postings usually go down in the summer. A lot of people on vacation, etc. I know what you mean about blood thinners. My dh was on blood thinners also because of his stroke. The least little thing and he would bleed alot. One time he cut his hand (not a bad cut) and I had to bring him to the clinic for stitches as I could not stop the bleeding.
Enjoy the time you have left with dh. The time is very precious.

Take care
Dianne

Hey there, Dianne! How is your life going, and your Spark program? I don't see others posting here like they used to. Do you know where most people are posting nowadays?

I am feeling So relieved. Michael and I saw his oncologist Thursday, and he said that at this point, we should just go enjoy life. Chemo, radiation is over. The cancer isn't curable, but Michael is feeling SO much better every day as the chemo drugs go away. We all know the cancer is still growing, but at a slower pace. We keep going until a new symptom rears up. He'll get an MRI maybe every six months to check bone strength. He's still taking blood thinner warfarin for the protein build up thickening his blood, so we have to be careful about his falling. He cut his knee last week, and you wouldn't believe the waterfall of blood. We just take care of it like any bleeding cut, but Michael is pretty grossed out about blood, especially his OWN blood :)

His myeloma is especially aggressive kind, so we're making plans for concerts, fixing up a bathroom, and just getting out of the house. emoticon

I'm sure your dh is watching over you. I'm sure he would want you to take care of yourself the way you took care of him, too. Glad you're still on Spark. This site was a sanity savior for me during chaotic times: something I could count on, encouragement, it gave my new life a little identity. I hope you make it a goal to do something nice for yourself once a day, even though you might not feel like it. emoticon

Hi FABTAB, How are you doing?

I am still in mourning for my dh. I miss him so much. It has already been a month since he has been gone. Having trouble in organizing myself, but I am not pushing it. It is all in the process of grief.

I am at peace however. I am so glad that my dh is no longer in such pain. Hopefully he is meeting up with all his friends up there and hope he is watching over me.

Chat again soon.

Dianne
