Iamreadytoroll, You are in my thoughts. I wish you and Bill lots of luck and positive energy to get you through this.

We've been through chemo with some family members and I know how difficult it can be for you both.

When my husband Bill had his exploratory surgery December 18th they found he has a reoccurance of Cancer or possibly this part of the cancer was laying undetected all along, no way to know really. It is not in any organs, nor is it in his colon or small intestine nor is it in his liver, lungs etc etc at all, Praise the Lord, he healed those areas and is also healing the abdominal cavity. However the cancer is throughout the abdominal cavity, it
looks like he is painted white all over inside. The surgeon could only see this visually. It was biopsyed and confirmed that it is the same cancer as
the tumor in the original surgery Stage 4 Metatastic Adenocarcinoma "Colon Cancer". This
does not show up in Tumor markers in his blood, it does not show up in CAT scans nor does it show up in PET scans, they think it might be because it is
possibly a slow growing cancer and is not detected but none the less its there. This type of cancer is one of the most painful because it invades
the lining of his abdomen and goes into the nerve endings and just aches intensely and he needs constant pain medication, not naracotic but some type of pain relief. However, this pain is saving his life, because they would have never went in and found the cancer. God knew it was there and it was
time to find it and deal with it.

There is a new cancer chemo drug that has just been cleared by insurance companies as of November 2006 to be used its called VECTIBIX and they give
the drug about a 50-60 percent chance of being effective for Bill for this type of cancer. He gets these infusions once every 3 weeks. He got the
first one last Monday. We feel the drug is working because the Cancer Aching is lessening and he has a severe rash and severe blistering over his chest, back and head, scalp, face and in his mouth and throat (a side effect of the Vectibix that shows its working, miserable but a good sign its working), he
is sicker with this drug than he has been even with the first rounds last year. I pretty much have to keep him sediated from the first day of treatment for about 2 days, sleeping pill and pain meds to get him through the roughest part and then he is still very very sick for up to 2 weeks so far giving him non naracotic pain meds and nausea meds. I pray it gets easier for him the next round and through completion in about 4-6 months of this heavy chemo.

Please keep us in your prayers, Bill is in the fight of his life. We have total faith God has healed him, we just need to hold him up through out this
misery of Heavy Intense Chemo and Cancer Pain.

Since Bill's reoccurance my weight loss efforts have paled in importance to me but I need to do this for him as well as for me. I have to be strong and healthy. I feel stretched so thin especially emotionally. My husband and I are both 51 and we just celebrated our 32 wedding anniversary. We plan to celebrate at least 30 or 40 more. We dont even have our first grand child yet, we have too much to live for.

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I haven't been here lately. I've had a lot of medical issues and for the past 2 weeks I've been having computer issues.

My husband goes to the doctor Friday. We'll see how his count is. I'm hoping it's still down.

I haven't been doing very well on my dieting. I can't exercise at all, back issues, and most days I don't even get out of bed. Boredom, frustration and stress and Yes, I've gained weight. I have my computer back again and I'm hoping that once I start tracking again things will get better.

Jessica, my hats off to you for getting through this and still having such a positive attitude. Good for you. You'll do great here.

Jeneve, sorry I haven't been in touch, but my computer hasn't been working lately. You'l find a catch up letter in the mail soon.

Kim, the food tracker is the best tool they have here. When I use it I usually stay on track. I haven't had access for a while and I can't believe how much more food I've been eating. You should check it out.

This week I feel like I'm starting over. I'm going to concentrate on geting my water in and tracking everything I eat and stay in my calorie range. I've done it before and I'll do it again.

Linda

Hi Jessica,

Are you doing the Michael Thurmond 6 week body makeover? I purchased his program it's a good one, I didn't get very far with it at the time I was hospitalized with intestinal blockage ( go slow on the fiber if it's not part of your current diet). It threw me off. I guess it really comes down to the motivation, you have to really be ready to make thoughs changes.

What type of exercise are you doing? The one with his program?

Hi guys!

So, Jeneve what made you stop exerciseing? I'm not one to talk, I haven't started exerciseing yet, but I did get turned on to a good program. There are many web sites for it. It's called 10,000 Steps. They too have a free online program.

My daughter-in-law gave my husband some photos of Christmas, he said they would make me real mad when I saw them. All I could think is they must be real bad if he thought that. Anyway they were, but I decided to us them as a motivating tool. I've placed some on the frig, by the toilet, and in front of the treadmill.

Try not to beat yourself up, we all slip up once and a while. But you don't have to wait for next month to get back on track the next time you put something in your mouth would be a good time to start.

Henry got his CEA (cancer cell count for colon cancer)test back Friday. It was 40.2 last count was 36.4. It rose a little, we're not sure what this means yet, we go to the Dr. on Tueaday.

Sounds good ... I am sure you can make 120 if you keep achieving those smaller goals along the way. And even if you get down to as low as possible, its still a worthwhile effort, isn't it?

My son gets married on 14 April and that's my goal date. However, I have had a horrendous month and especially this weekend, with 2 of my son's birthdays and my husbands. On the 25th its our wedding anniversary (on the 24 one of my son's and DIL wedding anniversary). 26 January is Australia Day. Too many celebrations to count!!!!

Looking forward to February to start afresh.

Hi Kim

I think by eating as healthy as possible, even if I mess it up a bit once or twice a day, I am still eating far more healthily than before.

If I could just string a few good days (or weeks) together then I would lose some weight as well. I used to exercise a lot, but I am now so busy at work I haven't been exercising.

I know that the weeks when I did a lot of cardio I did lose more weight.

Hi Jeneve,
No, I haven't used the food tracker yet and I'm not on a very precise menu plan. I know this is one of the keys to success, you know "failure to plan is planning to fail". I've basically tried to first eat the 5-10 recomended servings of fruits and vegetables daily and drink 90 oz. of water with fresh lemon in it. I figure if I primarily do these two things first I won't be hungry, so far it's worked pretty good. Next, I've been eating protein and cutting back on my crabs, by a lot. I'm like you though, come dinner time, though I'm watching my portion size I have a tendancy to eat too many carbs. Oh well what do you except from a life time of poor eating habits.

So forgive my ignorance but could you translate for me your weight in pounds.

Kim

Hi Kim

I'm counting calories on the SP food tracker (I'm not always successful at keeping within the calorie range...but I try).

I eat pretty well the same breakfast and lunch most days: cereal and skim milk, toast or muffin with all fruit jam (breakfast); a piece of fruit, a piece of cheese and 2 whole wheat crackers for morning tea; tuna and a pile of salad on whole wheat bread (lunch); more fruit for afternoon tea.

Dinner and the evening are my problem spots. Often its chicken and steamed vegetables, which is ok. Hopefully followed by another piece of fruit. However, I often eat pizza or something else inappropriate that spoils my day! If I'm hungry after dinner, I tend to snack.

Are you following the SP food tracker or a planned diet?

Hi Jessica, what a brave and darling little boy. I am praying for his continued improved health and recovery.

I've never heard of neuroblastoma before and am amazed that the simple urine test is not performed.

God bless and keep you both

Wow! What a wonderful and inspiring story. Are you a christain? It sounds like the work of God. My husband Henry's tumors have metastisized in some lymph nodes behind his duedenom near his spinal cord. The doctors have told us that they are inoperatble. They also told us that he will be on chemotherapy the rest of his life. Of course we are praying for a miracle.

Anyway, congratulations on your engagement. Henry and I were only married 6 months when we found out about the cancer, that was 2 years ago.

We are 45 and 52 years old with kids older than you and we had both been married before but our wedding was fairy tale none the less. We were wed on December 5th, 2004 so our theme was Christmas. We rented "a barn" more like a big cabin at a bed and breakfast. We had kareoke, santa, dinner, and presents from santa for all the kids that came. In lieu of presents we had everyone that came bring a black and white photo of themselves. We gave away 3 prizes for the most creative photo. We also wrote our own vows. But I guess what the best part for me was that Henry let me buy any wedding dress I wanted. You see I had been married 3 times before(sounds bad doesn't it)with no wedding, wedding dress, or even a proper wedding ring. My ring and dress were just grogeous!

I've gained 20 pounds since then and I was atleast 40-50 pounds overweight to start with so my husband hasn't ever seen me in "hottie" form. So I guess that is one of my motivating factors for weight loss. Even though my mind says lets lose some weight my body still craves those hot fudge sundaes. Anyway thanks for writing.

Talk with you later Kim

Im Jessica and am mom to one of the bravest kids i know.

My son was diagnosed at 10 months with neuroblastoma. The tumor ran from his neck to his tummy right by his spine, down his back. The tumor grew into his spine which caused compression and is how I knew something was wrong

He was not wanting to crawl and when he woud he fall face first or when he would sit he fall to the side. For days he was irritible.

I took him to his ped and the ped assistant told me he was being lazy and laughed in my face when i said he acted as if he was dizzy when I icked him up off the groud. -he would, his eyes would flutter a tiny bit and head would kinda rock, thats only way i knew to explain to her-

Next day his ped called us to come in cause she wanted to see him. She said he was fine, maybe an inner ear infection and she set up a appt. with ear doc for 2 weeks away. She said moms with PPD tend to over exaterate(sp?) illnesses. Yeah i was fuming from the ears

I took him to the ER for a 2nd opinion and they did xrays and found nothing.

I knew something was wrong with my son. I was the one seeing him act weirdly everydaya nd getting worse.

2 days later he came down with a 105 degree temp. Back to the peds I went. She was just clueless so she called a local childrens hospital 2 hours away for their advice and we were admiited that night for more tests.

at 2am they preformed a spinal tap which came back abnomral. A MRI and CT followed next night. at 1am saturday morning we were awoken by the oncologist who informed us he had cancer and it was very massive and we had to start chemo within days to keep it from paralizing him.

Wyatt, my son, was born with this and had it all his life but we never knew til it got as big as it did. They started him on steroids to take some of the swelling off the cord. They told me in another month he would have been paralized and within 4 he would have been dead.

That Sunday he received his hickmen line and started chemo. He had 3 rounds of chemo every time but one, which was a one day cycle.

After 4 treatments, 3 line replacements (he pulled them all out or they got messed up), numerous weeks in hospital from infections because of the hickmen line, removal of the line and placement of a metaport (THANK GOD)...a MRI and CT showed the tumor had shrank in half, but still went from neck to belly in legnth.

We had 5 more treatments the next few months.

In June another MRI and CT showed the chemo hadnt even touched it.

After his WBC count came up he had surgery to rmove what they could withiut disrupting the cord and a biopsy was done on it. A 2 hour surgery turned into a 6 hour one or more. They got in there and were able to remove 3 golf sized portions of it, they had only planned on maybe one ball size, and plus it was by his main aorta (sp?) so they had to go slow

Biopsy shows its ganglioneuroblastoma, which means its dying.

We have urine checks and MRI and CTs every 3 months. This month we are scheduled

And do u know this can be detected by a urine check?? simple urine check at birth and we would have known. But america doesnt like japan and china do. Its a type of cancer very common in kids under 5

Wyatt just turned 2 and is doing amazing. So far he shows no sign of mental challenges from the chemotherapy
