I am hoping to make the right discision with whether or not to place my husband into a long term faciliy. I have been taking care of my husband for over 15 years. I think, if I am not careful, that I will just reach the end of my rope. It is starting to feel that way.

My son, Nathan had Testicular Cancer 2 years ago and now he is having bladder pain, so he went in for lab work yesterday. I hope it comes back that he just has an infection or kidney stones. We will have to see. It sure is a worry.

Anyone who has lived with cancer, either in themselves or a family member, knows the stress of waiting & wondering about treatments results & upcoming tests. The fear is something that can't be described to someone who hasn't actually felt it. I had phases where I ate everything & then at one point, I went through a period where I couldn't swallow anything but liquid. The doctors said it was "psychological". Of course it was; my 8 year old daughter was "dying" of cancer! My 8 year old is now 36, and I have struggled with my weight my whole life. Sometimes you have to just go ahead and eat that whole candy bar or whole pizza or whatever helps you get through the day, but then you have to say to yourself, I have to be healthy so I can support my family member who needs me. You need to care of yourself, so you will be around to help your husband when he needs you. Think about it! Your life is just as important as his is.

Oh my...you are sooo incredibly strong to have gone through what you have! I admire you for staying strong and supportive of your husband and at the same time recognizing that you want to change your lifestyle to make yourself healthier too. You and your husband will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that 2011 will be a better year for all of us!

It has been a little more than a year since my husband was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma, and a year since he had his modified radical neck disection where they removed 45 lymph nodes, and 5 of them tested positive for cancer. He has gone through the interferon iv drip and radiation and is now on the final step of intron injections.

In September a c/t scan showed some spots on his right lung that concerns his doctor, but no one would do a biopsy on it due to them being so close to some main blood vessels. In NOvember they did another scan. The good news was those spots didn't get bigger, but the bad news is that a new one showed up. We will find out Monday if a biopsy will finally be done.

I'm hoping that 2011 will be a better year with hopefully good news. I'm hoping that a biopsy will be done, and that it will come back cancer free. I have battled this last year trying to be as strong as I can for him and for his family. In doing so I have really neglected myself and really let myself go more than what I wanted.
